Sir Terramor the Blue Knight |
Just a note to the party:
Sir Terramor is a cavalier with Bodyguard and Tactician archetypes. He can grant those adjacent to him +4 to AC as an immediate action up to 3 times per round. So stand next to him if you're in the front line.
Oswin Durnhelm |
So as long as I make it through my adventure, I will have 6,000 GP to spend.
My level 7 feat is going to be Shield focus. I can then afford to do one of the following:
1) Upgrade armor to +2 OR buy amulet of natural armor AND upgrade cloak of resistance to +2. This option puts my static AC at 27.
2) Upgrade armor to +2 AND buy amulet of natural armor. This way my static AC is 28.
Wreck |
Just a note to the party:

Yup, that will be Wreck. The two of us, with an High AC? We will hold the line!
Faraz Aram |
Faraz will need some assistance. He's not terribly optimized. But if it can be grappled and pinned, it will be.
Faraz Aram |
I also haven't played Faraz on the boards for a long time. I'll update his profile later. I retrained him into the tetori archetype pretty early on.

Magic Circle Against Evil?
Faraz Aram |
More than one never hurts. Put it on different people in case we need to spread out or something.
Oswin Durnhelm |
Well, assuming I live it looks like Cairo and I have quite a bit of build overlap. Not a bad thing, because battle clerics are awesome ;) Still, would it make sense for both of us to prepare Blessing of Fervor? We'd get two fights' use out of it. Spiritual Ally looks pretty handy too.
Cairo. |
Well I'm more of a support cleric. I have some buff spells just in case, but most times I end up swapping them for cures anyhow. I can handle the Blessings of Fervor. Feel free to prep more self buffs.
Oswin Durnhelm |
So with five PC's I think I'll stick to the non-hard table. We will be challenged.
We should have PLENTY of divine firepower, and we all have good to great melee capabilities.
It seems like we'll be relying on Wreck, Terramoor, and Faraz for most up-front duties. With a couple buffs, Oswin can wade right in and cause some trouble if needed. But I'm happy to prep spells for support too. Putting Bull's Strength on Wreck, for example, might just make the monsters go away that much faster.
Maybe we can agree on some general tactics ahead of time? Like when to delay, etc.? It makes sense for party buffers to get their spells out first, but you guys let me know what you're thinking that way.
My buddies just pulled my paralyzed behind out of harm's way, so I might make it here yet!
Wreck |
Wreck doesnt have buffs. he is Buff! :P but extra buffing useful! and with a +3 initiative, most folks would go before him anyway
Oswin Durnhelm |
Oswin just finished his game. He will upgrade his plate armor to +2 and his cloak to +2. 3,000 GP each, for a total of 6,000.
Probably going to cast away since we've got a strong front line in this group!
GM Mars |
All right - time to turn my focus to these games! The game isn't starting yet, but it's time to take care of pregame business.
Our table is currently:
Wreck, Fighter 7
Faraz Aram, Champion of Irori 9
Oswin Durnhelm, Cleric 7
Cairo., Cleric 8
Sir Terramor, Cavalier 7
Current APL rounds up to 8, so high tier normal mode it is.
Over today and tomorrow I'll be looking over everyone's character sheets so that I can understand how your character works. If you sent me a PM or you asked me to look over your character before, I'll be sending responses today or tomorrow.
I do need everyone to either post or PM me your PFS # for the character you are playing, whichever you're most comfortable with. Either way it's going to end up in the magical excel document that holds everything!
The game will be starting this Saturday, although I won't be as responsive as I will be for the rest of the game because I'll be at a puzzle hunt for most of the day. Sunday I should be more responsive. (I'll be traveling on a bus with a wireless hotspot. And I've been able to PBP from my phone, so I should be good to go.)
Hope you guys are ready, because I'm excited!
(And at some point I'll get used to this whole posting under aliases thing.)
Faraz Aram |
Excited!
PFS #55162-8
Biggest thing to know about Faraz is that with Greater Grapple he has the potential to grapple as a standard, then maintain/pin as a move. With Stunning Pin, if he successfully pins he gets to make a Stunning Fist attempt as a swift. He also has Snapping Turtle Style/Clutch/Shell, so if an attack misses him he can make an immediate grapple attempt at a -2. However, he's very limited on swift/immediate actions as so many of his abilities rely on it so most of the time I can't utilize this as much as I would like.
Oswin Durnhelm |
PFS #85794-3
Oswin is built to be versatile. In smaller groups, he plays the classic cleric very well. He can stand toe-to-toe with the bad guys pretty well, especially with bless, bull's strength, and inspire in place.
He can also be good at laying down buffs. Dropping bull's strength and prayer can be great, along with blessing of fervor. Cairo has staked a claim to this role, so we need to decide if two buffers is too many.
Finally, he can blast with spells. Evil outsiders (heh heh, demons!) Are especially weak against Searing Light and Holy Smite, which both do d6 times level, which is 7d6 if they fail the Will save.
Out of combat, I don't get a lost of skill points, so my Perception is just OK, as well as my knowledges. Sense Motive is getting better.
Cairo. |
20056-10
Not much to know here. Cairo is a dedicated buffer/condition remover/healer. He can also tank pretty well though his damage is lacking. Being a cleric I have the standard diplomacy and sense motive as well as decent knowledges.
Wreck |
Was in a accident yesterday, so will post again after weekend. And yes, I'm okay. Just muscles and such that are sore. :)
Wreck's info is in his profile. Wreck is Lvl9 now
GM Mars |
So here's some info that I didn't think of when I started the game but is important for you to know.
My goal for myself is to post every day. My expectation for you guys is to post most days. I'm kind of playing this by ear since this is my first time running a PbP, so we'll se how it goes, and of it's moving too slowly, feel free. To let me know via in-thread post or via private message. I feel like the expectation that everyone posts most days is reasonable and will keep combat flowing rather fast, but please let me know if you feel otherwise. If you know you're going to go more than a day without being to post, please let me know.
On that note - I will be posting less often around Easter weekend, since that weekend is a local con and I get to run Tomb of the Iron Medusa and the Moonscar. (Sap all my brain energy!) I will try post as often as I can, but I may go a day or two without posting at that time.
Faraz Aram |
Oo, I'm in the middle of running Tomb of the Iron Medusa myself right now. It's a blast, have fun with it. Make sure to impress upon your players the need to take good notes. Taking notes and keeping track of all the noble names and historical events will make the entire module much more satisfying to them. Otherwise they won't understand the significance of most of it, as there are a lot of names and such flying around and it can get confusing if you don't write down who's who and what they did.
Oswin Durnhelm |
SO CLOSE!!! Agh, I'm SO tempted to peek in the scenario too! Still, quite glad I skipped over this part when I did read part of it, b/c it's been a pretty fun little riddle to work on.
GM Mars |
Heh - this puzzle is pretty cool. It's a shame I haven't played it yet. I'm going to have to shut up when the puzzle comes. (Or more likely, I'll be playing my drunk, so I'll be occasionally yelling out random wrong answers in the middle of the party working on it.)
The best part about the puzzle is that the solution in the pdf is wrong. John Compton had to errata it in the GM Discussion thread. Yay typos being in the worst part of the scenario!
Oswin Durnhelm |
Well, if push comes to shove my adamantine lockpick will come in handy... Is anyone else able to aid in solving this? Please follow the links to the Holy Text, I wouldn't hide scripture!
It sounds like Cairo had done this, and I know Faraz has. Wreck may or may not, but probably doesn't want to help becuase he's have to step out of character.
So it's me and Terramor then?
Faraz Aram |
vital strike I can use on my first attack each round. So only my first attack is a 2d12. And thanks for save. Would hate to slaughter party. Since im actually well geared to take out ghosties
Didn't want to clog up Gameplay.
I think Vital Strike can only be used when you make one attack, not when you full attack or make multiple attacks in any other way. At least, that's the way I've always seen it used and been told that's how it works. It's best for the first round when you have to move up to the baddie and only get one swing anyways. But once you are up there taking a full attack, you are no longer making a single attack (you are making multiple attacks) so you can no longer use Vital Strike.
You make a single attack that deals significantly more damage than normal.
Benefit: When you use the attack action, you can make one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals additional damage. . . .
I could see how it could be interpreted either way but I've never seen someone use it during a full attack before.
Faraz Aram |
I found it for you! In other words, Vital Strike is standard-action attack so you can not use it with a full attack, which is a full-round action.
Oswin Durnhelm |
Any way we can dispel or counteract confusion? Because this fight can go one of two ways: Wreck smashes it in a couple rounds with his ghost touch axe, or we pick away at it with our force spells and "normal" magic weapons. Cairo and I can channel to hurt it, too.
Faraz Aram |
You'll probably have to retrain (either waiting for an appropriate fighter level or paying GP and PP). It's still a good feat. Like I said, it's mostly used for the first round of combat when you have to move up to the enemy and only get a standard-action attack anyways; you can at least do more damage on that one hit. Cleave is the same way; you can't use it on a full-attack but it has its own good applications where it's worth having.
Oswin Durnhelm |
So we've found another 2 prisms here?
Can we carry more than 1 prism in each hand? I'm thinking we have Oswin and Cairo focus on getting the machine back online, leaving our big guns free to deal with any trouble we might encounter.
Faraz Aram |
No worries! We'll still be here! Hope you had a good time.
By the way, how many prisms can we fit in the control panel? I seem to recall from when I GM'd it that you can only fit four in there but I may be misremembering that detail.
