The sound from the tunnel Finn and Bein are guarding draws closer but then, you think just out of sight, it stops. Instead of creatures moving forward into the room you hear a series of high-pitched chirps from the passage entrance. From the second tunnel you can hear the creatures drawing closer.

Bein did his best to move quietly and could make out some of the distinct noises over the echoes and strange sounds within the caves. He kept his longsword drawn though and stood opposite of Lord Finnabar. Ready and waiting to leap into action...

I guess they've head us and that means we're vulnerable. Plus that scraping does not sound good to me. Maybe It's time for a change of plan.

As they've surely been located, Finnabar will try to cut with his axe a few roots just at the entrance of the cave, so that the birdlings will have difficulties coming in. Can I use Knowledge engeneering for that?

To the other players, as we may be attacked from two fronts, I'm tempted to exchange Jack and Bein in our map to have melee people on both side. What do you think?

Bein would completely agree and its a sound plan to me, I can fight defensively on one side, using my higher AC while you and Jack hold the other side and Xarafine can support all of us. :) Thank god for a High AC!

I am not sure what kind of action economy we've got right now. If someone wants to signal Jack to move, he'll move, but if that spends time in such a way that the creatures can attack when folks can get a shot off and Jack and Bein are moving instead, we could waste what readied actions we've set up. I'll follow y'all's lead but we may not want to second-guess ourselves too much.

As Finn and Xerafine move to swap positions, a shrill whistle sounds from the tunnel Bein still guards. Immediately, from both tunnels, the sounds of motion resume, shortly followed by the appearance, in both entrances, of giant centipedes which strike forward....

Roll init, except Bein and Jack can immediately attack (assuming that you'd readied actions.

As the centipedes enter the cavern, Jack releases an arrow at the closer of the two. However, the arrow strikes the wall above the flat-bodied creature. Bein's strike, however, lands true on the chitinous skeleton of the centipede closest to him, causing a green ichor to spray from its ruined head as the animal drops motionless to the floor.

The centipede facing Jack rears back and strikes at him, but its jaws close about empty air.

Mikmek cowers away from the attacking centipedes, not moving forward to help but squeaking... "Careful of the many-legs. Poison!

Jack steps back and fires an arrow straight down into the animal's head, causing a nasty wound which Bein opens further with a savage cut from his sword, dropping the creature.

Both centipedes are dead but we're still in combat time. Finn's up then enemies.

I'm going away for 3 days with no internet - may be able to submit a short post tomorrow - prob not till friday after that.

Just as one comes through the tunnel entrance Finnabar's axe slices downwards, immediately beheading the monster. The other centipede rears up and bites at Bein,..

Xarafine continues to sing as the battle escalates (maintain inspire courage). Seeing the monstrous creature trying to bite the young cavalier, she quickly moves over behind Bein and touches him with a blessing from the Nine (casts resistance) to protect him from the beast's venom.

Not posting out of turn, merely a Dot post. For some reason I lost all the updates status, it showed no updates for the last couple days... Soannoying!

Bein gives a grimace but holds his ground, he'd been beaten once today but not again, as his armor grinded from the massive monsters bite he felt a cool sensation pass through his being, he felt more sure he could withstand this creatures poison and gave a grunt as he slammed his sword into his shield taunting the creature. As it hissed in angry defiance at him he growled. "Come and meet your end."

brutally slashes the centipede, cutting through its carapace as if it wasn't there at all. As he finishes his slash he whips his blade, splattering the thick blood of the centipede onto the already slick cavern floor. Anymore of them show up and we won't be able to stand over here... Despite his misgivings he laughed. "You'll have to do better then that creature..."

I haven't gotten any recent notifications, but this isn't the first time the boards have done this. I just checked right now on a whim, and lo and behold...

The remaining centipede crumples beneath Bein's strike, its head dropping to the floor and rolling some way into the passageway. As it rolls out of sight a piercing chirp of anguish echoes from the cave and a small, disheveled birdling erupts from the darkness, its eyes moist with tears. Seemingly unconcerned by the danger, the small mangy figure, armed only with a simple stone knife charges straight at Bein, intent on revenge.

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Its eyes clouded with tears the small creature stumbles on the wet cave floor and trips forward into a clumsy fall, its knife skittering across the stone floor. Sliding forward on its belly the birdling finally comes to rest at Bein's feet, unarmed, smelly and sobbing mornfully.

From the other tunnel a quick chirrup can be heard, followed by the sound of rapidly retreating footsteps.

Jack puts his bow away and draws his sword, holding it at the back of the birdling's head.

"They mourn for insects, but think nothing of ambushing and murdering defenseless travelers." Jack shakes his head. "What do we do with it? Is it possible to interrogate them?"

Bein stood there, a bringer of death, clad in the heavy armor of his profession and looked down through his visor at this strange birdling. Yet as it looked back he turned his blade point down, seemingly pointed at the creature and for a moment it looked like he would strike. But the young Cavalier was made of sterner stuff, his adrenaline didn't dictate his actions, his battle fury would not push him to strike down an unarmed individual.

He does however eye jacks sword and taps it with his own blade. "Theres no need its beaten and unarmed, what can it do now with its beloved pets destroyed?"

Looking at the Teacher Bein asks questioningly. "Ask Mikmek why he was taken to begin with, why are his people fighting these birdlings? Whether its war or fighting for territory his answer may shed some light..."

Slamming his sword point down in the cave floor Bein does the only sensible thing, binding the hands and feet of the fallen birdling and removing the possibility that it is remained a threat. He did however remain close to the creature to protect it from anyone that would threat it as well...

Jack resheaths his sword, content with Bein's call to tie the creature up. While the others talk to Mikmek and deal with the birdling, Jack looks down the passage, keeping an eye out for reinforcements.

Sorry Jack, Bein is a warrior like you but his training means he can't harm unarmed opponents. Its against his code. But your character is awesome btw. We held those baddies off fairly well and I got good rolls for once.

Bein nods in thanks to Jack, relieved that his comrade stayed his hand. He hauls the fallen birdling up and sets it with its back against the stone wall nearby. He eyes Mikmek and readies himself to block him if he has to to keep the two foes apart. "This one is more useful to us alive, if I was to hazard a guess this one trained their pets." He motioned for them to stay put as he picked up their fallen stone knife and slipped it in his belt loop and keeps an eye on their would-be prisoner. He trusted Jacks keen eyesight over his own in this dark environment and didn't quite trust Mikmek to hold it together...

I have no problem with it, nor does Jack! He wasn't sure how far to go so he's glad Bein made the decision.

"Good point," Jack noted from where he stood at the tunnel's mouth. "Maybe we can get him to call off other centipedes, if they're out there. After all, he seems to value them."
