As the Birdling stabs Bein in the thigh the cavalier grunts. "Hit, MY TURN!" And in a sportmanslike manner HE returns the favor by stabbing the birdling in the chest with the tip of his sword, lucky for the creature it pulled back and only got a shallow wound.

If it doesn't die Bein retreats behind Xarafine and watches the back of the group, allowing Finn to push forward.

The birdling confronting Bein falls into a heap at the stroke and Bein steps forward into the gap created, bringing him into the centre of the remaining four creatures. As he does so the birdlings look down at their fallen comrade and all turn to run towards entrance in the opposite wall. (All withdraw 40')

Bein couldn't fire at a retreating foe and seeing them in full retreat gave him pause enough to kneel down and see if his former opponent was still alive.

If he is still alive Bein bandages his injuries and pulls his wounded enemy aside. Heal Check 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Bein then looks at the last living prisoner and rises to his feet.

Depending on everyone elses actions Bein approaches the prisoner to see if he can assist the poor Kald.

Jack had no compulsions at avoiding eliminating dangerous enemies, who took delight in torture and murder, as best as he could tell. Particularly noticing one of the birdlings running close to the Kald and not the opposite exit, he moves to the mouth of the tunnel and fires at it, lest the creature molest the Kald or Bein as he tries to free it.

Attack on Kald 6, who should no longer have cover bonus. He'll stand in whatever square near the mouth of the tunnel that will put him in Point Blank Shot range. Assuming Inspire Courage is still up. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

As she works the knots, she smiles rassuringly at the creature and makes a cursory assessment of its injuries.

Bein doesn't stop assisting the creatures he's assisting, as Finnabar's Canarii is lost on the Illsanarian. He approaches the Teacher and seeing her dealing with the Kald looks to her and speaks. "Want me to cut the ropes Milady?"

She gives him a very quick, but genuine smile, and returns to untying the kald.

Finnabar's Javelin flies towards the birling but, at the last moment the creature slips a little on the wet floor and the javelin strikes the opposite wall.

Bein moves over to the Kald and begins to examine it followed swiftly by Xerafine. Jacks arrow streaks towards the birdling but again it misses the small creature. As the arrow hits the wall the creatures all disspear into the tunnel, squalking excitedly.

Bein smiles back, nodding his helmeted head to Teacher Xarafine, and looks to where their foe had vanished. After picking up one of the torches he continues forward in pursuit but not moving with perceptible lethal intent. Merely following to see where they are going, while keeping his blade drawn just in case.

Bein follows the bird creatures as best he can, he doesn't get more then 5ft-60ft from the group or his best guess at the distance. ;) Underground places can be confusing! >;)

"Do not worry, we will help you. I will treat your injuries once I have freed you," Xarafine says in, what she hopes is a calm, reassuring tone; knowing that although her magic will allow her to understand the creature, it doesn't confer the ability to speak its strange tongue.

Jack curses as the birdlings succeed in their retreat, but he hangs back at the entrance to the tunnel they fled down. "They may be getting reinforcements. Maybe we should leave after we free the Kald--or at least retreat back to a point we can defend ourselves better from. They obviously are adept at swarming their enemies."

Bein makes his way slowley and carefully in pursuit of the birdlings, ducking around the hanging stalagtites and moving downwards through the slippery tunnel. After only 30' he suddenly comes to a deep fissure which crosses the tunnel, its bottom hidden in shadow. The chasm is 20' wide and has a seriesof simple rope loops which attached to the northern wall of the chasm, forming a simple series of hand-holds which scirt the cliff to another passageway on the far side.

Just as Bein appears in the entrance a final birdling reaches the far side and dissapears into the far passage.

Bein stands at the precipice with his blade drawn and holds the Torch over the edge, peering through his visor as he tries to see if he can spot the bottom. Failing at that he stands there a moment longer and shakes his head. "I'm no fool, cross that gorge and they will cut the ropes like cowards..." He starts falling back then, never turning his back on where he last saw his foes and returns to the others.

"They retreated across some fissure in the earth, many ropes provide hand holds but it appears far from easy to skirt around the edge. If you wish Lordship I will pursue them and drive them towards you if you take the other passage. Despite their numbers they are quite easy to defeat." He says all of this clearly and calmly, never betraying a hint of doubt in his capabilities in doing just as he promised he would.

He keeps his helm firmly shut and eyes the Kald from the shadow of his helmet. The strange birdling was alive at least, as was his former opponent.

The hand-holds consist of loops tied directly to the rock. It would be impossible for the birdlings to cut them from the far side.

Turning to Bein, he replies. "I don't doubt your strength, but I would prefer us not to be separated. Let's hear this Kald first and then see what we can do to catch all of these."

Just let me know wgat you're doing. Moving forward over the chasm, or back to the entrance intersection? If the chasm, who's going first? What protective steps are you taking? Are you giving Mikmek a weapon?

Upon hearing Bein description of the chasm, Finnabar frowns. "This looks like a trap. We should not engage ourselves all at the same time. Bein, you should go first checking all the ropes, while Jack and the Teacher cover You and I take the read guard. Then Jack, our new friend, Xarafine and myself at last."

Bein nods. "Aye milord. A sound plan." He sheathed his longsword and strap his shield over his back as he headed to the fissure in the earth. He took hold of the first rope and tested its resistance, hoping to know if it would fail under his weight or not.

He is about hakf-way across when the rope loop he is holding comes loose in his hand and he begins to fall backwards away from the rock face, his hands scrabbling against the rock to find purchase.

Bein scrabbles for a hand hold and reaches desperately for the last rope that had held him...

Sadly though. He comes up painfully short, his fingertips grazing the rope just before his feet slide of the edge and the gut lurching feeling of being airborne stilled the cavaliers heart. As he plunged into the darkness he tried to turn himself over in the hopes he could find someway to arrest his fall. Sorry Sis looks like I've failed you...

Bein is too far for Jack to do anything other than scream NoooooOOoooooOOOooooooOOoooooOOO!

Bein scrabbles against the wall, and feels himslef tilting uncontrollably backward, weighed down by his pack and armour. The walls of the rock rush past and, as he tries to turn, he suddenly feels the cold impact of shallow water, followed by the impact of the rock below.

Is there still rope affixed to the wall? Would it be possible to pull it out, leaving it anchored on one end, and lower it downward? I think we also have rope too, but a) Bein might have it, and b) the rope is looped so would have handholds to a degree. Basically just finding a way to safely climb down--and get Bein back up

As Bein splutters and stands in the fast-flowing water, a shadow, about half-way between the ledge and the crevasse's floor (15' above Bein, 15' below the ledge) seems to move. The long (10') shadow seems, at first like a snake but its movement is accompanied by scittering sound of many legs striking the rock surface. As it moves out of its shadow the shape reveals itself to be an enormous centipede which swiftly moves downwards towards Bein...

the walls of the crevasse look easy enough to climb down, with convenient ledges sticking outward from its edge 10' below the rest of the party and 15' below that. Climbing back up might be harder.

Jack and Xerafine can take prepared actions to shoot at the monster then init is:
