As I no longer have classes on Tuesday I hope to have us going that day! Do you all wish to restart or keep moving? Since I know some of you missed the train scene.
A restart might be smoothest, depending on how many people we have back.
So far it is 5
Kenneth, Francis, H.B., Serafina, and myself.
I'm waiting to see if the other three will be joining us.
Edit: I did just resend some PMs to ensure I didn't miss anyone else. Pretty much if you where on the last page of the game I PMed you. Save those who are already here. Because I know they've check in.
It may be the smoothest option, but on the other hand, given pbp speed, we could be sitting in (for some) another train scene for quite some time.

But maybe, we just jump straight to the sorting and skip the train ride?
So, the five we have are:
Serafina (Hufflepuff)
Kenneth (Gryffindor)
Francis (Hufflepuff)
H.B (Hufflepuff)
Anora Evans (Slytherin)
Since there's only five of us, would it be easiest for us to all switch to the same house? Ken's character generally embodies aspects of all four Houses, and I don't mind switching him to another House.
Honestly, I think it would be a shame to have Anora switching away from Slytherin.
It offers just such a ludicrous amount of plot to have a muggleborn in slytherin :-)
But if you want to change colours, we could be "that Hufflepuff gang with the oddball-Slytherin girl" - which sounds like a fun thing to have.
Yeah, Anora's character is kinda tied to Slytherin.
But if you all want to be Hufflepuff and the odd slytherin girl that is fine! XD
Though that does beg the question on how you all know or even care about this odd girl out. Before the train scene set up ties for those who would be in different houses to know each other. But we're skipping that scene so... hand wave it?
Once upon a time (^^) I was in a game that used a 'Characters First Meeting Memory' for that kind of situation.
1) We would agree on the general situation of our first meeting (sharing a train compartment in this case)
2) Everyone would just write up a short version of the meeting from his characters point of view as if remembering it (at the very least, one short scene for each player character, marking his/her first impression of the other one)
3) Any difference of the situation are just written off as 'long term memory discrepancies'
That way we have a shared background (the train ride) and some fun pieces of memories (that may or may not actually have happened) without spending a lot of time on team building.
"Remember that time when we laughed so hard that Kenneth sprouted coke from his nose? Back at our first train ride?"
"... actually, no. I just remember that you tried a spell on my jeans and burned a hole in it rather than changing its colour to pitch-black like you said that it would!"
"Oh, yeah ... that. I think that was just before all the laughing in fact..."

I'd say hand wave it. We all met on the train in the same compartment, Anora shared the cookies her mom baked with us, and everyone's generally friendly and been introduced to each other.
I'm OK with handwaving it too. Of course, then Anora might be giving the stink-eye by some of her fellow Slytherins...
If, otherwise, we want to shoot for more variety, I can make a different character and go Ravenclaw. That way, we have maximum access to school areas and teachers.
If we want variety, Francis could very well be a Ravenclaw as well.
Actually, he could be anything but Slytherin.
But Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff are the obvious ones for him.
Back then, I decided for Hufflepuff based on the fact that Kenneth H.B. was kinda alone in Hufflepuff compared to the other houses.
So, no need for Serefina to change her charater for that - Francis could just switch house while staying the same.
H.B. was the only Hufflepuff. Kenneth is Gryffindor, and now the only Gryffindor.

I think it's easiest for me to switch. The only reason I chose Gryffindor is that's what the dice rolled, and the only story connection to any he has is Ravenclaw, since it was his mom's house. Even then, his mom was Muggle-born, so it's not like he has any long family history tying himself to one of the Houses.
Perhaps I shall let the dice decide again. Well, more of a coin toss in this case.
1=Heads, 2=Tails. GM, since Anora is the only Slytherin, why don't you call Heads or Tails? If I get what you called, then I am Slytherin!

This means I may play up his rule-breaking side a bit more. Step 1 - learn alohamora, lumos, and nox. Step 2 - convince friends it would be totally cool to explore an out-of-bounds area. Step 3 - profit.

So I sent H.B. another PM to let him know he can jump back in. Make sure he's okay with all of this then we can jump back in feet first!
I was going to do this on Tuesday but... illness didn't agree.
Anyways! While we wait I thought we could hash out some core details of the train ride. That way the core parts are the same but the smaller detailed interaction are left to each of us!
Such as Anora would share her cookies with all of you, and show you the spell that she knows, as well as inform you all that she is muggleborn.
Kenneth would mention he's half-blood, learn the spell from Anora, and buy everyone chocolate frogs from the cart.
Serafina would share home-baked apple and cinnamon tarts, and possibly show off that she can do a decent Jelly-Legs Jinx.
Forgot to mention I will be on vacation starting tomorrow through Wednesday. I'll have my phone, but posting time might be limited. I'll keep up as best I can.
Will we only skip the train ride or also the boat travel to the castle from the station in Hogsmead?
Wondering whether I will have Francis miss the train due to the birth of his nephew and join with the group at the station and link with them during the boat travel across the lake...

So H.B. may not be joining us. When I PMed him to tell him to go ahead and jump back in he said that he might not be rejoining and asked were we would be starting. I explained and have yet to hear a single word back on yes or no... So I don't think he will be rejoining us...
Does this change anything for any one? If not we'll just hit the ground running.
Nope. Gives us two Hufflepuffs and Two Slytherins.
Makes for a equal double team of Hufflepuffs and Slytherins.
