For those downstairs:

The fat lady drops like a brick, and she's out cold. Robahl says, "Kill her! Kill her now!" He then turns to Thesling, who is moaning ever so softly, and starts to choke him.

Uhh, these folks are crazy. Thesling is in such bad shape that without immediate intervention, Robahl will kill him.

To those upstairs:

William said, "Millech, Delour is downstairs either trying to kill Robhal or Thesling, and right now I suspect its either talk her down or subdue her. You might go down and say something, because nothing I say right now is going to work. Unless..., you have illusions yes? Could you use us, and then use your illusions to do the curtain call?"

Millech looks at you and says, "I only have costumes for those actors in danger, and I cast illusions on top of them to make them look real. I don't have any costumes for Thesling, Delour, or Robahl. If they are killing each other, why didn't you stop them? Is Thesling okay? You just left him down there to die? What kind of people are you anyway? I thought you might be different from the other actors, but your hearts are cold as ice I see. Get away from me." Millech gives all of you a hard look and walks away, frustrated at what you seem to have become.

Spoiler:
William sighs, looking at Millech frowning. "Millech, wait a minute. You and I are both people of magic. Myself, I am not one that is much capable for stopping someone with a dagger from killing another. Nor am I good at healing. We have two problems, a crowd and anger. Robhal and Delour both want Thesling dead, and Delour took out a contract on Thesling's life. Thesling is badly burned, and I don't think he will make it on stage regardless. Robhal and Delour are having at each other, and right now I highly doubt they will make the curtain willingly. Is there anyway that you can delay the crowd from leaving?." He sighs blinking and thinking.

We have to make this work. Nethys, help me, I need your strength, my magic is nearly spent, and I could use another illusion to help us make it through this. I am so frail as a wizard. Nothing like my family. I must be stronger, I must be better.

"Please Millech, I will do whatever I can, and I have a few tricks up my sleve left today, but I need your help. With all the pieces in motion, we may be able to make this work. I know what you must think of me, of us. Trust me, please. Trust that we can be that change, that difference. "

To those upstairs:

Millech stops and listens, and says, "Face the dangers of devils, acid, torture, and giant skeletons, but so scared of a fat old lady with a knife? No such thing as an innocent bystander. You all been healing between acts just fine, but can't heal a dying man nearly burnt to death? Evil exists when good people choose to do nothing. And those who choose to do nothing, well, they aren't good people. I guess those people who talk about (k)Nights Bane making a difference are just talk. Sad really. I had hoped this city would get better. I'm no hero, but I thought you were."

William curses under his breath looking at Tristan. "She's right. We need to set this straight, as much as possible."

He looks to Millech. "Do what you can to stall the crowd, but in the end, they are subordinate. Come on Tristan, we have to stop this madness. And Millech..., get a stagehand in one of Dentris's costumes. I may have an idea to save this situation. And prepare illusions for Thesling and Dentris both."

William grips his staff, and races back down the stairs, to try and get to Thesling and protect him.

"Jimmy thinks you should leave Thesling for now, because the people of the crowd want to see you. Jimmy hears they are all clapping for you. Jimmy heard you say it was good Jimmy knocked out Delour, but now the crowd can't see Delour. Jimmy thinks we need a way to show the crowd Thesling and Delour in good shape. Jimmy also thinks you can think of a solution, because Jimmy thinks you're the smart Robahl Nonon."

He let's go of Robahl after giving him a soft push toward the stairs. "Jimmy thinks you should go now. Jimmy will try to wake them, but you'll have to find a solution yourself if Jimmy can't get them to join you upstairs."

If robahl leaves:

Jimmy picks up his sword and sheaths it. he then picks up Delour's dagger and puts it in one of his pockets.

He then moves over to Phaedra, who doesn't seem to have moved upstairs, and takes the wand of cure light wounds from her. After this Jimmy walks back to Thesling. "Jimmy hopes he's not going to regret this later," he says, and touches Thesling with the wand.

Downstairs:

Robahl says, "But, but, why do you save us? We have conspired to kill you, and you still save us? Do you not understand? We wanted you dead, and you lived! Oh no, oh no, oh no. What have we done? What have you done? I'm so confused and I don't understand." Some tears come down from his eyes.

Upon hearing Phaedra's kind words, Robahl straightens up a bit, stops crying and says, "Yes, you are right. It was a wonderful play. You all did such an amazing job. The first set of actors to have actually completed the full play. Yes, I was the director of this amazing feat. Yes, you are right. Lead on." He stumbles up the stairs.

First, let me say that it is required to use CLW more than those two times, as you brought him from -9 to 0, and at 0 he just isn't going to get the job done, as he needs to be at +1 or higher. Thus, you must mark down 3 full uses of the wand Phaedra. In your next post please acknowledge this.

Thesling was a burnt crisp, but now he stands up, still very sore and injured, but offers a "Thanks" and sees the knife lying next to Delour. He then looks at Jimmy, then looks again at the knife, looks at Jimmy again, and kicks the knife away from Delour. "Leave her, she won't understand. I don't really understand, but trust me, she will never understand." With that, he walks slowly up the stairs.

Emerging from the stairs below first is Robahl and then Phaedra. Robahl looks at William, Corey, and Tristain. He then says, "Well done. Let's go meet our adoring fans." Then comes Thesling slowly up the stairs followed by Jimmy. There is no sign of Delour. Millech smiles and gives Jimmy a "thumbs up" motion, then Millech runs to pull the curtain up.

As you peek out, you see the crowd was starting to leave, but they now pause. Millech calls out in a very loud voice, "INTRODUCING FOR THE FIRST TIME ON STAGE, CALISENICA NYMMS AS ILLSANDRA!" Calisenica isn't really sure what to do, but the crowd starts to applaud and Robahl points to the stage and motions for her to go on stage. She goes on stage slowly but the crowd comes closer to the stage and applauds.

Millech then says, "INTRODUCING: LOCAL TALENT JIMMY BODRICK AS THE BAILIFF!" The crowd applauds, and Robahl says, "You should say something to them. They'll want to hear your message. I want to hear your message."

Speech time Jimmy. Oh dear...

CLW, 3rd time: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Jimmy used the wand a third time on Thesling, bringing him back to positive health. He then follows Thesling upstairs, and smiles at Millech. "Jimmy wants you to know Delour will be fine. Jimmy thinks Delour will have a headache though," Jimmy says to Millech.

Not surprisingly, the nobles are a bit confused listening to Jimmy.

Millech scratches his head then continues in his very loud voice, "INTRODUCING WESTCROWN'S LOCAL CHALK ARTIST AND FIGHTER, TRISTAIN AS DROVALID THE TORTURER!" Robahl says, "I hope you can talk in first person."

You're not worthy, you lug...but you should enjoy this while it lasts because tomorrow you're back to being a schlub.

"Thank you, Westcrown! I'm not worthy! You've been a great audience...my only regret now is that I didn't die for you all...because, for you, it'd be worth it." Tristain waves and bows again.

"I shudder to think how I almost missed out on being part of what will surely be known as a pivotal moment in Chelaxian theater. Sadly it is currently very hard to catch a break and get any decent roles if you do not already have the right connections or enough money to buy them. I feel that this does such a disfavor to my art, since I have known some truly talented people be forced to give up their dreams of being on stage while some rather mean-spirited and less than talented individuals have had long careers. I hope that one day these theaters will be full of individuals who have succeeded based on the merit of their talent performing for gracious audiences like yourselves. I think that it would greatly improve the quality of the plays."

He walks next to Phaedra.

Well, there was a certain part between acts that I certainly liked... Phaedra takes a quick glance at Corey before deciding upon an answer to actually voice. Now tomorrow evening is going to be intetesting. People are going to want to see us, talk with us too...probably. So we do need to make our presence obvious. We should probably make sure to mingle around and talk to everyone as much as possible at the start of the party. Our appearance may be more likely to be missed by someone who hasn't had a chance to talk to us and is actively searching us out. Perhaps later on, we could maybe hint that someone wants a private show and excuse ourselves or have someone make a big mess and give us cause to go off for a bit to cleaned up or something?"

William stands off to the side, away from the group of them for a time. In his mind is a swirling of ideas. A great many thoughts seeming to clash together.

Fire and ash, what have I gotten myself into? I wonder if it is true what they say, that you either die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain? I saw in their eyes hate, and a desire to have that man put to death. I do not know what slights that they have endured from Thesling, but Nethys preserve that they would be so rash as to try and have him slain in such a fashion.

William takes his leave of the group to go and try to gather together his thoughts, returning to the (K)Night's Bane gathering area. He takes his spellbooks, his journals and parchements and start to read, meditate and think.

Father of all magic, I am puzzled. It is often a storied fact that rebellion and revolution die on the edge of the swords that spawn them. This group, this resistance. They stand suspended on the edge of a precipice. I saw today hate, and anger that would doom our cause if it were not for quick words and level heads. I do not know where that came from, what I said today. I do not know that I would have been able to say that on my own, if the need arose. I am not a cleric, in the traditional sense. But you, I know you will take on any as your priest, regardless of their magical specialty. If you find me worthy, help me to grow your faith here. Found a school of magic, so that we can teach others to learn for themselves, to empower and raise themselves up above this horrible oppression that Asmodeus has leveled against these people. Give me the strength to resist the priests of the Devil Lord, so that in patience, and in time, we can dismantle the current regime, and rebuild a new one befitting of a free people, and one that would honor you, and all of magic

William finishes his devotions by making several inscriptions of arcane nature on parchment, nothing like a full scroll, but certainly enough to spur one's mind onward to think and puzzle it out. He then packs his things away, and heads to the market and other shops to procure the needed supplies for the coming endeavor.

William wakes in the morning, having rested after the ordeal. He begins his morning in study and meditation, and takes to his pen, writing down everything that happened the day before.

What else will be asked of us, and what else will happen in our quest to change this city, and the nation. Do we, do they..., do I have the moral fiber to be able to see the work done, and not burn everything around me in the process. Blood and fire, I know that it would have been easier to just let them take each other out. But Millech is right. How can we hope to change this city, to be different, to make this place better, if we don't hold ourselves to a higher standard than the tyrants that oppress?

William thinks for a few minutes, as he pulls out his spellbook to refresh his thoughts, and prepare his magics for the day. He starts to prepare and a nagging thought hits him, something in his gut. Damn it all. I need to apologize. Millech was right, and I was willing to let those two rip out each other's necks because I didn't want my hands dirty. William sighs, looking over to the symbol of Nethys in his study. Have we really as a people become that corrupted? That we have allowed Asmodeus to taint our collective soul so much that we are willing to just let it all go? I pray that there is still a chance, that there is still time to change the world for the better.

William sets aside his spellbook for now, pulling out some parchment and quill. He thinks a moment, then starts to write:

Millech,

I am deeply sorry for my actions at the performance to you. I know that I have offended, and that I have no right to ask you to forgive or reconsider me in any way. You spoke words of truth and wisdom to me that I should have heeded a long time ago, and very nearly abandoned on that stage, were it not for your wisdom and courage to speak. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know that perhaps this is not enough to change your thoughts of me, or your feelings. I understand that, and for that I am deeply sorry. Thank you for what you did. If you find it in your heart to forgive me of my transgression, I would be in your debt.

William.

William dries and seals the letter, and then goes to his spellbook, reading and studying, preparing his magics and abilites for the day. He is able to breathe easier, and sighs. That is done, now for the party. William looks to his mirror, thinking for a time before slipping on his sleeves. In the blink of an eye and magic, his robes change to a much more appropriate garb for the party. He sighs, shrugging. Suppose I look the part now. Need to go pick up a couple of things before going to the party.

William sets out to deliver his letter, and go to the marketplace to make some purchases.

William shrugs, looking over to Tristan. "Perhaps, but you do remember why we are going, right?" His face is a bit grim as he has his mind on other matters.

After cleaning himself up, Corey will arrange for a horse drawn carriage, white horses and hire a driver, footman and a herald for the to travel to the party.

GM CC, just tell me a price please.

Corey will be dressed in his finery and jewelry, but underneath will be wearing Domino's gear. His mask and gloves will be pouched snd hidden.

I'm ready when the rest of you are. Phaedra care to ride by me?

Phaedra looks over the horses and carriage appreciatively. "Well, at least we will arrive at the party in proper style. It's a shame we are expected to be in costume for this. I bought such a lovely little dress the other day."

"I am ready as well and it would be a pleasure to ride by you."

William sighs, picking up his contracted headband, and also visiting a local magic item peddler to pick up a particular wand. Once he does, he meets up with the rest. "A carriage? We aren't going to be sparing any expense then? I hope we remember what it is we are going to do? I would make sure to have your gear with us, or perhaps someplace nearby?"

William sighs, stowing his wand on his belt, and settles in so that he can arrive with the group. I wonder, I hope these pathfinders are worth this trouble. This little game of ours can get us all killed.

"Yeah, I'm ready to go...as ready as I was for the play at least, William. I've packed everything I can without being too conspicuous. I think we have to hope to get lucky again. This is still crazy...but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it."

Tristain agrees to pay for a carriage.

"We could travel in style...just this once, right?"

(1 gold should be enough for the short ride.)

As you get in the carriage the driver says, "Just the five of you? Okay. Better put the top down, looks like it is going to rain soon. Storm is coming hard, almost looks unnatural." Sure enough, in about 10 minutes what went from being a nice morning has turned into a downpour and dark clouds. The sun is blocked out in an ominous manner.

Despite the rain, you can see the mayor's residence from a decent distance. The residence is unofficially named "Aberian’s Folly" because of the vast sums of money that have gone into the building. A corpulent building of iron and stone looms over its neighbors in southern Westcrown—the mayor’s abode is anything but subtle. This is no mere house, but rather a bloated near-castle, a HUGE manor with rusting gargoyles dancing upon its gables among hooks and nails to prevent the birds from settling. Iron gutters gush rainwater onto the streets below, but bright lights burn fierce in every window while plumes of smoke boiling up from nearly two dozen chimneys promise an interior as warm and welcome as the exterior is cold and forbidding.

As you get closer, you can see a variety of carriages arrive ahead of you. They manor has a variety of halfling slaves holding extremely large umbrellas along the red carpet runway to the front door to protect the occupants from the rain. The halflings are having an extremely hard time holding the umbrellas with the wind blowing.

A halfling opens your carriage door but does not speak. As you exit and walk beneath the variety of large umbrellas held by the halfling slaves (area A1 on the map), you notice that in front and behind the halflings are nail spikes usually used to keep birds from landing. It is apparent that the halflings are not allowed to move forwards or backwards without severe injury to themselves, and thus their enormous struggle to not sway in the wind with the umbrella.

When you enter the manor (area A3 on the map), you cannot help but notice that the temperature inside is quite warm to offset the cold rain outside. Thickly carpeted and well lit, the walls of this manor hang with numerous paintings of past Westcrown mayors and nobility. However, about two-thirds of the spots where paintings obviously used to hang are empty, but the faded paint makes it quite obvious paintings have been removed. At the end of the hall on either side are stairs that lead up. Beyond the doors at the end, you can hear voices like you would expect at a party.

The halflings inside says, "Honored guests, please make your way towards the banquet hall inside beyond the doors at the end of the hall and past the Garden of Earthly Pleasures. If you need further assistance, feel free to speak to your host. The other slaves are unable to speak as their tongues were removed. Furthermore, they will only respond to commands from either myself or your host, so if you request something from them, they will not be allowed to comply without authorization from myself or your host. Lastly, please stay within the authorized banquet hall during the party. Straying from the banquet hall will be, frowned upon. Slaves are all over the house doing a variety of chores, and despite their inability to speak, will report such activities." With that the speaking slave moves back outside and closes the front door as if he is expecting additional guests to arrive.

Phaedra takes hold of Corey's arm and allows him to lead her to the banquet hall.

So, there are slaves all over the house to report on any unauthorized activity. It may be rather problematic to be searching about later.

Moved us up to the door. Are there any servants at the door to open it for us or introduce us?

As you approach the door, they are opened from the other side by two halfling slaves.

UPDATED MAP

What you see when the door opens must be what the slave referred to as the Garden of Earthly Pleasures. The first thing that is noticeable is the ceiling, which is a very clear painting of the open clear sky (like a casino's painted ceiling). It must be an painting since you know it is cloudy and raining outside. There must have been a lot of money spent on the ceiling.

A quaint wooden bridge arches over a river that flows from a large devil’s mouth mounted on the north wall to a pool in the south. The banks are thick with wildflowers; a small sign near the bridge says "Please Do NOT Walk In The Garden". Across the bridge, you can clearly see Lord-Mayor Aberian Arvanxi, your host. He is speaking with a woman who's name you do not know in the Banquet Hall. He waves to you as the door's open.

The Banquet Hall behind the mayor (excuse me, Lord-Mayor) is an immense chamber pleasantly heated by six huge fireplaces and lit by constantly glowing crystal chandeliers. The walls are decorated with unsettling landscapes of twisted hellish realms that, upon closer inspection, seem to depict Westcrown as if it were located in Hell itself. Two thick, wooden pillars carved to represent tangles of serpents rise to support the roof above, and a balcony for observing the banquets here from below winds along the east and west walls at a height of 15 feet. The largest feature in the room is a huge, “H”-shaped table.

Two other features are present in here. To the northeast stands an immense grandfather clock whose sides are carved to depict hungry devils chasing 12 unicorns, its bells deep and ominous when they strike the hour. There are two women speaking near the clock. About 20 feet south of the clock in the eastern wall is a huge black stone door, 6 feet wide and 14 feet tall. Delour Aulamaxa is speaking with some man near that door.

(I should mention that there are about 30-40 people in the grand ballroom and adjacent rooms, but for sanity I've only shown the "important people" on the map along with the visible slaves. Should you venture into the Northern or Southern part of the rooms adjacent to the Banquet Hall, I will give you a description of those rooms at that point. Thesling and Calisenica are in the Northern room, but out of your view at the moment.)

As the rain comes down (which Tristain would consider a poor omen if he wasn't in the carriage), Tristain smiles as he rides in a carriage for the first (and probably last) time in his life. At this point, the ridiculousness of the current quest is out of his mind and his thoughts are on enjoying what he can enjoy...the present.

"Do you think they will have elven wine there? And how about peryton steaks? Gingerflumph pudding?" Tristain's mind swirls will all sorts of cool and exotic foods might be available to him at the party.

* * * *

Tristain smiles at the halflings, awkwardly accepting their help, as it is clear that he is used to doing things himself and is completely unused to having doors opened for him.

Tristain, not willing to be the first to make the first big, huge faux pas, enters the 2nd doors and waits on the side for others (including the bigger stars, like Phaedra) to go first.

Trying to glean if William has any knowledge of these people or if they are unknown to him

William takes slow strides forward taking his time, and moving towards their host. He waits till the Lord Mayor turns and recognizes him before he speaks.

"My Lord Mayor, it is a pleasure and honor to be invited to your manor this afternoon. My name is William of House Silverheart." William gives a half bow, flourishing his robe slightly as he does so, trying not to draw attention to this bird.

(if you don't move your icon, I'm going to assume you are yelling across the room to the Lord Mayor.) This will be a knowledge nobility check. Let me get some info based upon that roll.

William:

I will allow you to know the names of the individuals with an 18 roll. You may roll on each one individually. You should do this ahead of time, as it may provide more information on what to say to each of them. I will probably provide you the information via PM.

Furthermore, to everyone: you will need to roll diplomacy for your first encounter with any new NPC. You don't need to do it with the people from the play. Please adjust your words depending upon your roll. Don't roll a 20 and say 'sup biatch'.

Updated Map for William

Spoiler:

Knowledge Nobility: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Knowledge Nobility: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Knowledge Nobility: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Knowledge Nobility: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17

I saw only 4 people, so I made 4 rolls, apply them how you wish. Also, I forgot to add my +1 trait bonus for interacting with nobles, so if you allow it to apply, William gets a 15 with the Lord Mayor.
