Milech sees you eying the glass statue and says, "Got it shipped straight from the temple. Beautiful artwork and rather deadly. That acid burn sure will make the audience happy. Well, good luck!"
| William Silverheart |
William waves everyone over into a huddle for a moment.
"So I think I have an idea. I have a web spell ready, and I should be able to create a thick enough layer of webbing once I get inside to be able to help protect us from most of the acid. Here is the hitch, If we don't at least pretend to be in danger, we are going to get into more trouble. I'll need any help you can give me to assure that the spell goes off."
Council Chairman
|
Calisenica seems happy about your plan but she is clearly shaking from excessive fear. She can't stop looking at the glass snake. "We should have done the crucifixion. I'm so scared."
Council Chairman
|
William and I have had discussion and as long as he casts it after going in will not incur a penalty as it is a way to react to the danger. Casting it before going in is a big problem.
| William Silverheart |
William nods to Phaedra. "I understand your trepidation. But the glass, with all the contours and such, will obfuscate much of the ability to see what is going on inside, so all we need to do is wait till we are inside before doing anything. Between you and Corey, I am sure you could make some convincing pained screams, or you could even reach through the web and burn yourself if you like."
William then smiles softly, and tries to give Calisenica a hug, whispering to her.
Council Chairman
|
Calisenica cries. "It's going to be painful? Oh god!" More crying ensues.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Tristain looks at the people in the huddle, feeling like a muggle out of place amongst the actors of true talent, channelers of divine spark, and magicians of awesome power.
I wish Jimmy was here...he was more normal, like me.
Tristain nods along, feeling helpless to do much to help the team not die.
Acid, huh? I didn't like or need my skin anyway.
| Phaedra Valerius |
Phaedra gives a sigh of frustration at Calisenica's hysterics. "You should already known that all popular Chelish plays involve pain at some point in them. Just endure it, maybe splash a bit of acid on your front to dissolve a bit of clothing and show off some skin when we pop out. The audience will love that. Don't worry about any injuries, I will heal everyone, though we still have to look a bit worse for wear after we exit the snake."
Phaedra eyes Corey next. "I bet there are plenty of females in the audience who wouldn't mind bit of your clothing dissolving either. Maybe a few men as well...." I surely wouldn't mind it either.
| William Silverheart |
William frowns a bit at Phaedra, whispering to her.
William then goes over to try and calm Calisenica down, rubbing her shoulder gently. "Relax Calisenica. What must be will be. Just know that we are in this together, and I swear it on my sacred honor before the Father of Magic that I will do whatever I can to protect you, and the rest."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
| Phaedra Valerius |
Phaedra moves back a bit and allows William to handle Calisenica. First Thesling, now Calisenica. I'm getting tired of coddling these so-called actors that just can't handle the acting needed. Certainly there was no one to coddle me and I doubt the group could actually afford for me to indulge in so hysterics right now."
Corey Evander
|
"I bet there are plenty of females in the audience who wouldn't mind bit of your clothing dissolving either. Maybe a few men as well...."
Perhaps you are right, especially is you come out in style like Rachel Wyvern as well...we could really give the crowd something to remember...
Council Chairman
|
Robahl pushes all of you on stage as the Asmodean priest and his daughter leave. Calisenica can barely walk as she's becoming overcome with fear, muttering about the lack of the crucifixion. The snake like device is also wheeled onto the stage by the stagehands, most of them are done with their costumes but they return offstage to finish getting dressed.
Act 4: Trial in the Belly of the Beast
The curtain rises quickly, but you've grown accustomed to the light and it no longer blinds you. Thesling turns and gives William a cold stare, waiting for him to begin.
| William Silverheart |
William scoffs and looks at Corey with a disapproving fatherly gaze, one that he seems to know how it looks all to well, as it would seem William may have had this look pointed his way one to many times.
"Easy for you to say! Youth laughs at death as a stranger. As you grow older you come to know it well, and fear it."
| Jimmy Bodrick |
As the fourth act begins, Jimmy holds his breath. He, again, can't do anything but watch.
Jimmy's not in this act... Jimmy will be in the next though... Jimmy wonders how that'll go?
| Tristain the Chalker |
Why am I doing this again?
Tristvalid looks from side to side, examining the other actors for signs of flight or nervousness, trying to take strength from his companions.
"I have seen young and old break before this court. They all share one thing: a weak and watery eye speaking to a frailty of spirit. Your eyes are like grit and sand, obstinate even in the face of the storm-fraught sea. You cannot break, old wizard."
| Tristain the Chalker |
Tristvalid sneers at the bench and at Thesing, trying to show no fear in face of the Beast.
"Here follows the Trial in the Belly of the Beast. A great terror, gifted to this court by a Duke of Hell, the Beast is a hideous thing, whose stomach is a nest of acid-spewing serpents. It shall swallow us whole, and wash us clean in its acid well."
| Jimmy Bodrick |
Haanderthan:
Thesling frowns at Corey, then steps forward as his eyes move to Calseinica. An evil grin shows on his face when he addresses her. "The next trial demands a great sacrifice. Ye, who speaks for the half-breed, the lone traitor on the council who speaks against my august personage. You must brave this trial, and all that follow, alongside the accused."
Ilsandra:
For a moment Calseinica freezes, but then she laughs hysterically. It's the kind of laugh that makes one wonder if she's about to have a nervous brake down, or if she's just insane and looking forward to the trial. Those who know her probably realize it's the first, but Calseinica hopes the crowd thinks it's the latter. "Gladly! I stand at this tiefling’s side, or at his back, or him at mine, or perhaps I should bolster him up from below or allow him to do the same to me. You shall see how devotedly I attend his pleasure, for he speaks the truth."
Haanderthan:
"Then burn with him," Thesling says, the grin on his face becoming wider.
Ilsandra:
Calseinica walks over to Corey, and as she embraces him Calseinica gives Corey a fiery kiss. A few seconds later Calseinica suddenly takes several steps backward, putting some distance between her and Corey as she speaks: "Know the gifts of Asmodeus, dear child. You have earned great boons by your devoted service, and I shall pay them all with interest. But soft, what terror approaches? Our pleasures must wait."
Calseinica walks over to the glass snake and climb into its mouth. For a second Calseinica hesitates, but then she drops herself inside the beast.

No, it isn't. Getting out is another challenge.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Tristvalid makes his way to the Beast.
"Die though I might, melted to a puddle of liquid flesh in the bowels of the Beast, I cannot think of any greater man to join in death. I am honoured to die at the side of a man so filled with truth."
Tristvalid enters.

| William Silverheart |
William frowns a bit then makes a challenging remark. "Come and have a bite, Old Beastie. These old bones shall stick in your craw and choke the life from you."
William then moves over and climbs his way up into the snake, retching slightly at the putrid smell of things. He slides down into the snake, and holds his breath, not trying to avoid splashing down in the acid, so that he can have a firm foothold and casting his Web spell, to try and create a safe platform for everyone to rest on above the acid. He puts the creation of the webbing above getting out of the way of the acid and such, more focused on trying to keep everyone safe.

Phaedra shudders a bit as she eyes the glass mouth. Taking a deep breath, she recites her lines. "My holy flesh shall burn all the way down. Aroden's blessings upon my soul ensure a most unpleasant meal for this Beast."
Phaedra will then move up and climb into the great glass snake. Se finds herself sliding down into the belly of it and tries to not land hard into the acid.

Pheadra also needs to roll Fortitude one more time, which I will do for her below. Another reflex save isn't needed because of the web spell. The spell doesn't block the fumes.
Pheadra Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 nice
First, everyone except Phaedra has the sickened condition. Second, here are the totals of the damage, which are adjusted because of the successful web spell prevents damage for the final 2 rounds that the snake sculpture is set a way that allows you to slip into the acid. Calisenica (-2), Corey (-4), Tristain (-8), William (-1), Pheadra (0). I am amazed that's all the damage you took.
The stagehands dressed as lemurs come out and turn the snake so that you no longer risk falling into acid, and the fumes are going in a direction away from your nose.
The way out requires you climb up the snake's body to the mouth that is pointed at the ceiling, whereas before it was somewhat sideways (I admit I don't fully understand it since they don't have a picture of the sculpture).
Torment—Escape The otherwise smooth inside of the snake’s throat is lined with small spikes that provide razor-sharp hand and footholds that spring into position once its head and tail switch position. It’s a DC 20 Climb check to clamber up from the Beast’s belly, but the throat is narrow enough that only one character per round may attempt the check. Failure by less than 5 indicates that the climber makes no progress—failure by 5 or more indicates the climber takes 1d6 points of slashing damage from the spikes. A character at either end (perched in the Beast’s mouth or still within its belly) can aid another character climbing in the throat by making DC 10 Climb checks. There’s only room for one person in the Beast’s mouth at a time, though, and as a character clambers up into the mouth, anyone already there must either slide down into the throat or drop to the ground 10 feet below (1d6 points of falling damage; DC 15 Acrobatics check negates). Do not forget that the sickened condition applies to everyone but Phaedra, as that condition lasts until the end of the act.
You guys will have to discuss who is going first and if you have any other strategies. I'd take that to the discussion thread. Once you figure it out, start posting here.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Seeing a way he can finally help the team, Tristvalid climbs quickly and without hesitation.
If I can get up there, I can help the team...I can do something...

Tristvalid perches in the mouth, readying to help others climb.

| Phaedra Valerius |
Wait, why are the stagehands dressed as lemurs?
While they wait for the stage hands to flip the glass snake, Phaedra will whisper to William. "Can you cast a small spell of acid at me? I don't think the audience will like it if I climb out completely unscathed."
"I think I may need a bit of help on the climb. Phaedra will accept whatever help is offered.

| William Silverheart |
William looks at Phaedra a little puzzled. "Alright..., I suppose I can do that."
William mutters a couple of words, conjuring a small splash of the acid and tossing it about Phaedra's person.
Acid Splash: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Unless you want to dodge it, I won't roll a ranged touch for it.
Council Chairman

Tristain, you can only help the first person, then you have to jump down as there is no room for a person to get by. Thus, you'll need to make an acrobatics check. Since Phaedra climb was successful, she can stay at the top...but she jumped down since she made an acrobatics check (which she did incorrectly, so as a penalty you must roll again with the correct modifier of -3 because of the armor.) You should list your untrained skills in your character sheet so you don't make these mistakes.
| Tristain the Chalker |
Tristvalid falls from the mouth after helping Phaedra up.
He chooses to fail his acrobatics, hopefully giving the crowd a satisfying bone-snapping crunch...
1d6 ⇒ 5 falling damage.
-13 hp.
Tristvalid lays there, unmoving and smoking from acid damage.
| Phaedra Valerius |
D'oh, also forgot that Tristian would have to jump down for me. Can I aid the next person behind me first and then jump down? If so:
Climb aid if allowed: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Acrobatics Untrained: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (3) - 3 = 0
Fall Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Is there any penalty for failing that badly for jumping down?
Seeing Tristain laying there, she will move over to him and cast a healing spell upon him since she can't draw out her wand on the stage.

The third attempt is the last. Calseinica cuts herself again, and collapses due to blood loss.

William looks up to him and shakes his head. "I don't think I am that capable, even barring the stench of this place.
William looks about for a way to try and help her up, pondering for a moment.
