I appreciate it, so I'm going to speed this scene up a bit by doing a variety of things in it. And just to be abundantly clear, this scene was going to happen regardless if anyone tried to sell something prior to bringing proof that the Bastards of Erebus were eliminated. Good thing you didn't send an NPC to do it on your behalf.

"Yes, something is wrong. There's been more crime last night. We've got another dead shop owner, who just happens to sell weapons and armor. Another family selling jewelry were also robbed, but luckily they weren't at their shop last night. Just found a dead slave inside. So, if you don't mind standing extremely still, I want to inspect you for traces of blood. Should you move, or start speaking a magical language, we will attack. You have been warned."

The dottari lieutenant looks all of you over very carefully and doesn't see any "fresh" blood. Ezren explains that's horse blood stain, and Jimmy explains that's from a fight a few days ago. Given how it flakes when they touch it, it appears true.

"Alright, you're clear. But I want to know where you got all that armor. Did you recently purchase it? Perhaps you purchased it on the cheap from the people who did this, and now you've come to make your profit. Sorry lads, nobody here is going to buy your things today. Most of the shops are closing and the store owners fleeing. If Rego Pena closes down, not sure what will happen. Only some basic shops are still open, and they're going to be closed by noon." (If you wish to buy crowbars and lock picks, those are open, but most shops are in the process of closing and leaving, so you still have time to buy them.)

As you look around, you notice Glitter Palace looks gutted. Many stops are placing wooden boards on their shops (something unheard of since crime never happens at night, or used not to happen).

"Come on men," the lieutenant bellows, "let's keep looking, cause we'll all need new jobs pretty soon. I hear the Lord Mayor has a bounty we can work on. Maybe that's a way of making some money."

So, no selling of loot today I'm afraid. The city is falling apart. What do you do?

M Gnome Sorcerer

Moshley turns to the group.
"Well so much for gaining some profit today. Does everyone have their cloaks with them? We could go scout now and move in during the evening or night. As long as we're indoors by then everything should work out fine on the planning part. I don't think we could help any of the merchants though, we need to be at the source of that problem to help them."
He nods to himself, thinking it a very good idea.

PFS - Pregen

Ezren whispers to everyone around him."That was a close one. If they would inspected the gear closer they might have noticed it to be off some dead Hellknights. I told you to leave it on the bodies."

Turning to the Grovio. "Lead the way! We need to search those buildings and stop this madness." Ezren picks up his weapons and starts marching down the street.

M Human - Loon 14 AC: 13 (11 FF) CMD (20/18) CMB +5 Fort +8; Ref +10; Will +14

You two both forgetting about why we came here? I'm choosing to assume that both of you are helping carry the loot to be sold rather than Tristain carrying it alone, or with Jimmy.

Ignoring Moshley and Ezren as they walk away, Tristain picks up his weapons and then the rest of the weapons and begins to return to the safehouse.

However, Tristain stops short, an idea entering his thick skull as he remembers why they came here in the first place.

"Maybe...just maybe, Tarvi's parents will be willing to store these for us for a few days. Just a bit so I don't have to lug them around. Let me go ask."

Tristain will pop into speak with Franklin and see if he has a back room to hold the stuffs for a few days. If not, he will return to the safehouse and deposit the goods there after he finishes buying what he came to buy: silk rope, lockpick set See OOC, pitons and hammer, and arrows (if possible).

Should Ezren and Moshley go on without him, he will wait at the safehouse for their return.

08:15 / Wednesday

"Another family selling jewelry were also robbed, but luckily they weren't at their shop last night. Just found a dead slave inside." With: "you notice Glitter Palace looks gutted". So, just a reminder, Tavari's parents jewelry store was called Glitter Palace. Since it was a while ago, I will assume you guys forgot the name. Not a problem.

So, as you pop back into look around Tavari's parent's shop, Glitter Palace is practically destroyed. There's a dead halfling with his name tag still on him that says "Marwinn" on it. His head was cut off. As you recall, Tavari's family put most of the jewelry in a heavy safe. You go and take a look and the safe is still there, but it seems like it was heavily damaged as if someone was beating on it. You also recall that Franklin and his wife Elvira went to Elvira's mother house to stay.

Once you realize the situation, you purchase your items (not a problem), but every shop in eyesight is in the process of closing.

You return to the safehouse as a group, and dump the loot into the safehouse. It's now 08:45.

So, everyone is back at the safehouse. Everyone is now aware that the city is in utter chaos. The dottari in the area are now moving to kill every tiefling in the city they can find. What do you do? If you walk straight to the temple immediately, you can reach it by 11:30. Scouting when you arrive will take an additional hour since you have to be very careful to avoid being seen by the belltower, as a path known by Gorvio. What do you guys want to do?

M Human - Loon 14 AC: 13 (11 FF) CMD (20/18) CMB +5 Fort +8; Ref +10; Will +14

Tristain dumps the stuff and looks to Grovio to lead the way to scout the place.

"The poor little fellow. A shame, I think he didn't deserve this."
Moshley follows the others back to the safehouse.

"Well that was close! So now for the real deal. Gorvio? You will lead us with the scouting?"

Jimmy silently follows the others. He doesn't speak a word when the dottari ask him to drop his weapons, and doesn't speak a word while following Tristain to a shop that sells crowbars (among other items). "Jimmy wants one crowbar please," Jimmy says to a shopkeeper as he hands over 2 gold.

On his way back to the safehouse Jimmy doesn't speak, and once he's back Jimmy quietly stands next to Moshley while listening to him. Nobody could've noticed that, all the while, Jimmy had said many things. Continuously being called a liar made Jimmy wonder what had happened, and what he'd forgotten. Several discussions, involving many people, had taken place inside Jimmy's mind. He decides to keep quiet about the things he learned about himself, at least for now.

"Jimmy... thinks we should go scout now," Jimmy says in a soft voice, and forces himself to the safehouse's exit. He waits at the door, looking back to see if Gorvio will take the lead.

12:15 / Wednesday -- City entering chaos mode

Okay, unless you tell me otherwise, here is the NPCs with you: Gorvio, Amaya, Tavari. You arrive 45 minutes later than expected because guards along the gates heavily question anyone moving around between the sectors. They wanted bribes, but you guys are nearly broke, so it took longer than expected to arrive. Skipping those scenes to move along.

After a rather frustrating trip through Westcrown's various districts, you notice shop after shop closing. People are scrambling to try to buy things before the shops close. Some shop owners who see you in armor and weapons and offer you coin to protect them at night. They are frightened and desperate.

After excruciating delays at various checkpoints, you finally arrive at in Rego Cader. You see a few rundottari (dottari of the ruins) dragging dead tieflings through the street towards their headquarters. Some folks are throwing things at the rundottari from their windows in protest of the harsh tactics. Gorvio is quite upset, but gets you close to the temple of Erastil without being seen by anyone in the temple's bell tower. You take a peek at the bell tower and see a tiefling every so often poking her head out and taking a look around, trying to stay unnoticed.

You can scout the various buildings around the temple, and as you take your time to go in a direction to avoid being seen (which is time consuming), it now is 13:00 (1pm). Here are the descriptions of the different buildings you scouted:

HEAVILY BOARDED UP BUILDING
This two-story building is a typical example of Westcrown architecture. The windows and door are boarded up tight, but a small sign hanging above the door depicts a sturdy shoe and a long needle and thread, indicating this once was a shoemaker or cobbler’s place of business.

TAILOR'S HOUSE
The sign above the door of this shop depicts a shirt and a spool of thread. Curtains or drapes hang in the upstairs windows. You hear talking inside this building.

WOODCARVER'S HOUSE
This door is finely made and built of a rich red-brown wood. Carved onto the surface is a nearly full-size picture of a man holding a piece of wood in one hand and a carving tool in the other; the end of the piece of wood is starting to resemble the front part of a horse. Also cut into the door is a young child looking up eagerly at the emerging horse the man is carving. You hear moaning inside.

CARPENTER'S HOUSE
This two-story building is unusual for the miniature chairs hanging above the doorway from large hooks; odds are good this was a carpenter’s shop, probably one specializing in chairs. The ground-floor window is boarded up, but the boards are of quality wood and cut very evenly.

So, to be clear, there are 4 non-ruined buildings behind the temple, which resides on the corner of the street. If it doesn't say the door is boarded up, then you can try to open the door. You did not try any door to see if it is locked or unlocked at this point, to ensure total stealth. If you could hear sounds from inside, I noted it. You cannot see inside any of the 4 buildings.

Please select a building you wish to investigate further, and I'll post a map as needed. Most of these buildings are rather small, usually 15' by 15' and two stories high. Let me know what you wish to do.

MAP OF VARIOUS BUILDINGS Note the bottom building is the temple, and the red dot is the 3-story belltower. Building on left side of map is heavily boarded up building, top left is Carpenter's house, top right building is the Tailor's house, and on the right side is the woodcarver's building.

"Jimmy hears moans," Jimmy whispers, motioning at the Woodcarver's house while he draws his bastard sword. He holds his hand holding the buckler in front of him, and approaches the door.

When in front of the door Jimmy turns to look at his comrades, hoping to see the weaker ones in the back. If they're indeed in the back, Jimmy will try to open the door just enough to peek inside the house.

NEW MAP Ignore the blockout part, that's the upstairs map, not another building. Pushed Jimmy to just at the entrance only after more closely reading his post.

Jimmy opens the unlocked door rather loudly. The interior of this building is kept relatively clean and livable. The ground floor has two large wooden tables and two chairs. A hole in the floor is covered with
boards that have been pulled from the wall. There are stairs leading upstairs. You hear a female voice say, "What was that?" from upstairs.

What do you do?

He waits outside the door for Jimmy to look within. He'll keep quiet if he needs to move.

Note that I rolled 3 natural 1's in that initiative. It's like I'm playing in your game.

Frustrated by his bleeding arm, the male woodcarver attacks Jimmy again with his sword. This time, he connects, cutting Jimmy's arm somewhat, in a similar fashion. [Jimmy has taken 6 damage!]

Damage if hit: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Note tieflings don't have to take miss %

The male woodcarver tiefling takes a 5' step inside, starting to worry the archer might finally hit him.

You hear a woman's voice saying, "That's it, cut him down! I don't want to go jail for questioning like all the other tieflings."

Ezren:

Since you are now inside and able to hear the woman clearly, please roll sense motive DC 18. If successful, read the spoiler way up the page. If not, please continue with your roleplay.

@ Moshley - The building is 15', so Tristain is in 1 5' square, Jimmy is in the next 5' square, and the final 5' square has opened since the tiefling moved. So, while there is a space available, I will assume you don't want to be up front.

Hmmm, it might not be totally clear on the map, but there is a wall where Jimmy is standing, which extends all the way between Jimmy and the female woodcarver (the wall is about 0.5-1' thick I guess based upon the map). The only opening is the last square. So, if you look at this example of cover, I would say it's a lot like the rogue trying to hit the ogre in the picture. So, where Jimmy is standing, neither Jimmy nor the male woodcarver can hit each other. Thus, the only way you can "hit" the woodcarver is to get in front of Jimmy, but shooting would provoke an AoO. You could drop your bow as a free action, pull your staff and move at the same time, and attack with the 'staff', but you'll be in front at that point. Since the map wasn't apparently clear on that front, you can redo your action if you wish. Or, if I'm mistaken in the rule/example, let me know. I post here so anyone can correct me.

Let me add that you can step forward to the front, let him take the AoO on you, and the you shoot, you'll kill him with that roll. So, if you are willing to take an AoO, you can kill the male woodcarver tiefling.

Stupid f'n msg board eats my posts! I'm going to do 2 posts for Jimmy and 1 post for Tristain given what happens after I do my first action for Jimmy, and I didn't allow Tristain to fire in the last round but save his shot. This solves both problems and makes the scene go a little faster, which is probably okay given that it's the weekend. Hope you guys don't mind, as I thought this made the most sense.

================================
Okay, I'm going to post for Jimmy, since he's the main attacker. I will allow Tristain to save that roll and damage result, as I think it's a fair solution given the map might not have been clear, and I don't feel comfortable putting Tristain up front when he specifically stated he wanted Jimmy up front. So, here goes.

Jimmy appears stunned after getting a gash in his arm, but moves forward and attacks the male tiefling. As Jimmy moves forward, so too do Tristain and Moshley.

Bastard Sword Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Miss%: 1d100 ⇒ 50
Damage if hit: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Jimmy's arms is sore from the attack and misses the male tiefling. The tiefling tries to return the favor some more.

Short Sword Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage if hit: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Extra damage if confirmed: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

The tiefling finds a weak spot just between the pants and the breastplate and stabs Jimmy in the belly, and blood begins to pour out. Jimmy has taken 7 more damage.

The female tiefling says "Back up and let me at him!" The male tiefling takes another 5' step back.

ROUND 6 -- THOSE IN BOLD MAY ACT
Woodcarvers
Jimmy
Moshley
Tristain
Ezren

Jimmy and Tristain switch places, allowing Tristain to fire a shot at the male tiefling, killing him.
