Velag Wordeater |

Knowledge: (Creature Lore): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Velag says, "Stoopid hummin-faced kitties with wings... Wonder which one thems tastes likes... Hmm..."
He then gets a strange look on his face and growls at Bucko and Nao: "Wait. Thems knows we coming. Them say there reward for usses. Me not likes that"
He makes a copy of himself with a thought and raises his bow, shouting, "Nu-uh! Not eat us! You be food.", while channeling some of the hate for life of the Grey Man into his bow. Swift action: Bane
Composite Longbow (Masterwork): 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 19 {range, bane} for 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + (4, 1) = 12

GM Goblin King |
INITIATIVE:
Nao
Velag
Tark
Monsters
Klepy
Bucko
I'll assume that Tark will fire on his turn, too.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 - 2 = 15 Dmg: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
The goblins do considerable damage to the one on their right this round.
The creatures fly to either side of your group, firing sharp spikes from their tails indiscriminately, 8 spikes fly at you, hitting Velag and Nao for 8 and 7 hps, respectively.
They stay at 180' away, and prepare to take aim once again.
Round 2:
Nao returns fire, scoring a crit on one of the beasties!
Tark and Klepy missed.

Velag Wordeater |

One day, Velag's Copycat will actually save him from damage...
Velag calls out, "What be reward? Who leaved it? Tell us, and we only kill that one..."
Composite Longbow (Masterwork): 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 19 {range, bane} for 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + (4, 2) = 13

GM Goblin King |
One day, Velag's Copycat will actually save him from damage...
You'd think so, huh? lol
Velag and Tark fire away, concentrating fire on one of the monsters.
They shoot back, managing to hit Bucko and Klepy for 10 damage each. The rest of their volleys can't hit the small and wiry goblins or their mounts.
Die, goblins! cries one, just before Klepy hits it in the throat, and it tumbles dead from the sky.
Bucko's shot hits the last one, and it decides to flee south, rather than endure the fate of its companion.
You all get shots at -2, then -4, to bring it down.
Nao fires first, missing both times.

Klepy |

Klepy grins as the....thing(?) Flees. He plus back on the bolt and lets another fly, pulls back again and fires once more.
Attack:11d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 11 - 2 = 29 For:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Attack 2:1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 11 - 4 = 20 For:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Possible crit:1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 2 = 28 For addition1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
wow I just crit to confirm a crit. Awesome! Luck of the fool is with Klepy this day!
Any chance the target is flat footed?

GM Goblin King |
The last creature, badly wounded, flies away in spite of your crits. Nao shoots again and misses at long range. She brought lots of arrows, though.
Nao failed her knowledge roll to identify them, though a corpse gives you all another chance.
Goblins are awesome with bows. Any goblin who can use one should have one. They never even landed and attacked with their good melee attacks. You used no spells. You killed one and almost killed the other one with your crazy dex.
3 of you understood what they said.

Velag Wordeater |

Velag rolled earlier to ID the magical beasts... Got a 27. (points up to the earlier post)
Velag shouts, "Tells us who makes reward and me nots kills you...!", but then raises his bow when the thing tries to flee...
Parting gift shots...
Round 1 (at -2): 1d20 + 10 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 10 - 2 + 2 = 22 for 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (4, 4) = 10
Round 2 (at -4): 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 10 - 4 = 24 for 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
2 rounds of Bane remain today, and both judgements...
Also, if the fleeing beastie doesn't drop out of sight, Velag's got Bayleff loaded down with arrows (including flight arrows, which bring the range increment on the comp. long up to 130', so he's more than happy to keep shooting..)

Velag Wordeater |

One of two possibilities, go with the "correct" one, and then go with what follows:
Velag snarls as the thing drops out of sight, "Me knowed me should have learned more bowstuffs! Us need move fast, now. Them know we coming, them call us 'goblin riders', and them say there reward for usses. That one can tell everyone where we is, so we need go before bigger group attacks."
When he finishes, he cocks his head as a thought occurs to him. He turns his sternest Inquisitor gaze on Nao and says, somewhat harshly, "And who telled them? Am some of your lizzies froggie-friends? Or scared of temple? Whisper-gobbies not know we go to temple, so it not themses who tell.... You tell us what going on, now."
Swift action: Discern Lies.

GM Goblin King |
Velag drops the last one. Sorry I missed the knowledge roll.
He knows standard stuff about them; they're nothing special, really. They sometimes do form alliances with other creatures if there's something in it for them.
Nao doesn't know anything about the manticores or who would send them after you. She knows where the temple is, but nothing about what's in it, or even why the Lizard King thinks you guys are the ones to go there.
Inquisitors rock! lol

Klepy |

Klepy hugs his crossbow. "I loves mine new long distances sticky" he gives it a kiss. He then replaces the bolt cartridge. Looking around he says. "Klepy wants find froggy. Spend time knowing language. Klepy wants know their secrets. Take prisoner next we see thems."

GM Goblin King |
Nao heals herself up to full with her wand, and offers a charge to whoever needs it.
We're getting close to the temple, now. 2 hours if we march straight there, 3 or 4 if we take the more wooded paths.
Whoever sent the manticores may have other agents along the trail, and we might not be able to kill them before they report back next time.
Of course, leaving 2 dead ones here for all to see is plenty of evidence. I think we should take the slower route. We could use the cover.

GM Goblin King |
Before you reach a consensus, Nao stops in her tracks.
She listens to something briefly, then says, We're a few hours away. There were lookouts. Dead. We're alive. I'll relay the message. Should know more tomorrow. Will tell you then. Thank you.
She turns to you, with concern in her voice.
It looks like someone's beaten us to the temple. It's guarded by a camp of boggards and at least one giant. We need to be careful on our approach.

GM Goblin King |
You continue through the woodsy areas, taking a more indirect but better-covered route.
The ground is swampy, making it difficult for your mounts to move very quickly (half movement). The trees are somewhat sparse, short and gnarly, but provide better cover from aerial creatures than the trail.
About an hour in, you are trudging along, when Tark spots something else in a nearby treetop, 240' away, and before he can say anything, it begins to sing a hypnotic melody.
Will saves, please.
Velag: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

GM Goblin King |
Well, that's just great...lol
You all are captivated by her song, and feel an overwhelming desire to get as close as you can to her as quickly as you can. You spur your mounts to get to your beloved queen, with Nao likewise running towards her mistress, trailing behind you.
We'll have to pause here. I'm ok playing Velag, but not if he's the only playable character left!
Despair not, brave goblins. Velag could still pull you out of this one, I think, but I'll let Tilnar do that.
Velag watches as his weak-minded friends march willingly to their doom, unable to stop them.
Hopefully, I'll stop laughing by the time he gets here! hahahahahahahahhahahahahah

GM Goblin King |
If anyone has some thoughts or in-character comments, there was plenty of time for strategizing, etc., prior to your current plight. Any pre-charm roleplay would be fine.

GM Goblin King |
I imagine you've all seen this, but just in case you haven't, Happy Halloween!

Velag Wordeater |

Knowledge (Creature Lore): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Velag takes up a position where he can see the thing in the tree but it can't see him Stealth: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (19) + 23 = 42, and casts Flames of the Faithful on his bow while silently pronouncing judgement against it {Destruction}.
He activates his Bane and starts sniping the thing...
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 - 2 = 18 {Bane, range} for 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (6, 1) + (2) + 2 = 16 {Bane, Flaming, Destruction}
And back into Stealth.. 1d20 + 23 - 20 ⇒ (13) + 23 - 20 = 16

GM Goblin King |
Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
This is a harpy. Your friends are hopelessly enthralled, and will stand there while she kills them, if she gets the chance. You are unaffected for 24 hours.
The others continue to move towards her. She swoops down, landing in front of Tark, and gleefully tears into him, doing 11 damage. He does nothing.
Velag's attack just hit, but now he's got Tark and Fangz in the way. He can fire again with a -4, or run and melee in 2 rounds.
The harpy continues singing, and doesn't seem worried about Velag for now.

Velag Wordeater |

Seeing his friends take damage, Velag abandons the stealth plan and orders Bayleff to charge in Ride Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17, making a double-move.
He fires at the Harpy again 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 - 4 - 4 = 20 {+10 base, +2 bane, -4 into melee, -4 for double-moving mount} for 1d6 + 1 + 2d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + (6, 2) + 2 + (1) = 18, shouting, "Hey stoopit birdbrain! You missed the killy one! Me got nice burnies for you!"

GM Goblin King |
The harpy takes off, flying low into the trees. Velag gets another shot at only a -4 for cover before she's gone.

Velag Wordeater |

Velag shouts, "Me have nice hot lunch for birdie!" and raises his bow again.
Dropping Bane, only 1 round left today, I think. Switch judgement to Justice to compensate...
Mwork Longbow 1d20 + 10 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 2 - 4 = 16 {+2 Judgement, -4 Cover..} .. Well, crud. Stupid cover.
Velag snarls as he misses and spurs Bayleff to try to get another shot.. "Come back, birdie! Velag have song for you!"

GM Goblin King |
She stops singing once she's far away, and 4 embarrassed characters come to their senses.
Do any healing, etc., you need to do.

Bucko Rackingclaw |

"Thanki Bucko", Tark says as he looks at the wound which was mostly mended by the dirt. "Hrmm... me thought yous' learn better heali mud... this da same as da old stuff."
"No youses moved too much."
"Whas wrong wit Klepy?"

Velag Wordeater |

Velag rides back, snarling that his prey got away...
He lowers his flaming bow and glares at the others, "You stoopit softheads almost let selves get eaten by stoopit Harpy. Leave it to Velag save you." He then snarls, "She fly off after Velag put arrows in her... unlike you, she tried not get killed... Me hate when things escape judgement."
In Common, he adds (to Bucko and Nao), "You was no gooder than Klepy staring at sparkly in sun. You s'posed be better than that."
