Jorgan Steelkeg |
Jorgan nods in agreement. "Let's get them outta there. No creature should suffer in a cage like that, and being tortured and clipped on top of it. More than I can bear."
Wren. |
Wren shrugs at the dwarves decision and moves into the safety of the loo hallway while the team undertakes the task.
"Before you release them, ask them what they will hunt with clipped wings. The only thing I think they are likely to hunt rhymes with 'dak' and 'ywarf'," Wren hisses as he moves to the safety of a door. "If they cannot fly, how will they escape?"
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Van begins shaking his head in agreement with Kraygan and Jorgan, but stops when Wren makes his comment. Scratching his beard, he frowns. "The elf makes some good points."
Turning to squint at the manticores, he asks. "Did you mantacorns hear what the elf said? Can you answer his concerns?"
Torgan Steelkeg |
"I believe them, but I think we should let them go after we have dealt with th' giantess tha' they allude t', th' 'Giant B&@+$', as it were." Torgan reasons. "Shall we move on to the next room?"
If he hears no opposition, Torgan will move to the southern double doors from the previous room and open those.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
Kraygan switches to the dwarven language. "They might make for a good distraction. Let's get us and the yaks past 'em through those doors and then let the manticores out."
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
As he waits for the beasts' reply, Van wanders to the southern double doors and puts his ear to them.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Not hearing anything, Van's face crinkles in confusion. "Wait, I thought man-o-wars lived in the ocean. How'd these get so far inland?" Shrugging to himself, he points to the doors to his south. "I think we should just come back and let'em free after. Let's try this way. Somebody go get the elf."
Kraygan Steelkeg |
Kraygan moves to join Vanderhoff at the southern doors, lending an ear to them as well before cracking them open to look beyond.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

"Before you release them, ask them what they will hunt with clipped wings. The only thing I think they are likely to hunt rhymes with 'dak' and 'ywarf'," Wren hisses as he moves to the safety of a door. "If they cannot fly, how will they escape?"
Any way of living is better than this prison. You feel the need to put us down, like dogs just because that weeping Giantress had our wings snipped? The manticores hiss through clenched teeth at Wren.
A few of the dwarves investigate the door. Not hearing anything unusual Torgan opens the doors to reveal a staircase leading up to another set of double doors.
Listening beyond the dwarves talking and beyond the doors Kraygan hears the sounds of a deep voice beyond. The voice seems to be sobbing and lamenting about unrequited love. Though it is difficult to make out all of t through the muffled sobs.
Jorgan Steelkeg |
"Ah, no, I couldn't do that to ya. Come on fellas, let's let 'em loose." Jorgan looks for a way to open the cage or asks someone else better with locks to pick it. Barring that, he tries to quietly break the lock but barely manages to avoid injuring his hand.
Str: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
At the stairs, he whispers, "Ya hear that? Sounds awfully sad. Thought giants' only emotions were dumb, angry, and hungry. Maybe they've been tortured too and won't want to fight." Jorgan tip-toes up the stairs with Hops behind him.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
"Uhh... " Kraygan scratches at his beard in confusion. Trained in the lore of giantkind, he understands the few blubbering words that make it through the doors. Or at least he thinks he does, because they don't make any sense considering what he was always told of giants, which is pretty much what Jorgan says, though he would have added a second dumb to the description.
"She sounds... lovesick." Kraygan whispers, in the same way one might say "I stepped in poo."
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Van lets out a long breath and looks up at the ceiling. "She? Lovesick? You've got to be f@*%ing kidding me." Van swears.
Shaking his head, he looks back. "Can we try a different way?"
GM Tyranius |
"Ah, no, I couldn't do that to ya. Come on fellas, let's let 'em loose." Jorgan looks for a way to open the cage or asks someone else better with locks to pick it. Barring that, he tries to quietly break the lock but barely manages to avoid injuring his hand.
The iron cage seems to have no door, but a thick chain attached to a pulley strings across the ceiling to the door where the group entered, which should allow the entire 960 lbs cage to be raised.
There is no door. Just a chain leading to a pulley. The green square in the room is where the pulley leads to. It takes one character a full round action to lift it.
Kraygan Steelkeg |
Looking back down the stairs, Kraygan finds that he and Torgan have seemingly left the others behind. "Dammit.."
Moving back to the cage room he navigates around the cluttered edge. As he does, he reaches into his saddlebags to get some rations and tosses them to the manticores. "To take off the edge." He says to them.
Spotting Jorgan fiddling with the chain, he grumbles, "We'll let 'em out, but not just yet. Too many giants about and we're all split up."
Reaching the room where Wren and Vanderhoff are loitering about he waves them over. "My bet is that's Grendelshek cryin like a big baby upstairs. That's where we need ta go. C'mon, Torgan's waitin'."
Kraygan turns Haggis and rides back.
GM Tyranius |
Ok so far i have people at three different locations.
- Jorgan at the Manticore cage wishing to release them.
- Wren and Vanderhoff just outside the room with the majority of the Yaks looking to open the South-eastern door.
- Kraygan and Torgan moved up the stairs to the third floor doorways where they hear a sobbing ?????.
Do you really want me to push all three areas? :)
Listening to the door Vanderhoff does not hear anything and decides to push it open revealing a small staircase leading back down to the main level and a set of double doors leading east.
Vanderhoff Steelkeg |
Vanderhoff nods to himself and moves back into the room. "I don't hear anything that way. I can't believe I'm saying this, but let's go check the room where the crying is comin' from. We might find an ally or at least gather some information."
GM Tyranius |
@Kraygan- Hehe. I wouldn't do that to you. :) Especially with what you are entering into.
The pair of manticores glower at the dwarves as they squeeze past the cage to head upstairs. We are never getting out of here. One says as the other manticore claws at it in frustration.
This large chamber appears to have recently undergone a renovation. A broken wall partially blocks a dark alcove to the northwest, surrounded by broken bricks and scattered debris. A circular niche on the opposite side of the room to the southeast holds a raised table. In the center of the room, three beds have been crammed together beneath a single huge bearskin bedspread. South of the beds, a massive floor-to-ceiling mirror stands against the wall, and a large dust-covered armoire hunkers between two sets of doors along the northeast wall.
In the southeastern alcove resides a hulking hill giant woman. Her disheveled greasy hair runs down into a makeshift ponytail. The large woman stares blankly at a geode as she wallows in depression. Large tears roll down her cheeks.
Accompanying her in the chamber are two very large orcs, both female. The orcs stand 8 feet tall and seem far more muscular than your average orc as they must have some sort of giant blood or lineage about them. The either side of the large bodyguards stands a direwolf with fangs as sharp as knives. The large orcs seem to both be carrying large greataxes and wearing studded leather armor.
The two female orcs also seem to be a little down as their faces show a look of forlorn and sadness. Grenseldek looks up from her geode and sees that invaders have entered her personal bedchamber. With a look of shock she seems to muster the strength to stand and grab a hefty pair of handaxes from nearby. INTRUDERS! How dare you enter my bedchamber! Guards! Nibble!Scar! KILL THEM ALL!
She slams her axe into the table splitting it in two halves.

Jorgan casts barkskin on himself and moves to just inside the door. Hops stays back for now until the dwarves have had room to move up into the chamber.

Vanderhoff shrugs. "I can't even see in there, Torg's large arse is in me face. But it sounds like a room full of women, and that voice, that screeching voice reminds me of mum. I love her, Angraad bless her soul, but damn I hate the woman." He mutters. "Hoff, you never write anymore. Hoff, when are you going to find a nice girl, settle down, make me a grandma? Wah..wah..wah..wah.." Van trails off muttering to himself.
Gripping his hammer, he ponders waiting for a space to open, but then Jorgan rushes past. Didn't he learn from that last time..?
"If I could see in, I might be able to stun or blind some of them."
Torgan Steelkeg |
Damn, Wren beat me to it. Cracking wise about dwarf intelligence...
Torgan looks at the small door and then back to his large frame, listening the Van's complaints about his mum. "I know. She's always writin' me, wantin' me t' come over an' fix her pipes." he says with a wink to Kraygan.
The dwarf considers making a hole in the wall, but remembers that he was yelled at for such activities the last time he had that idea. "Get in there Kray!" he bellows, holding off until some space opens up. "Or we could just go back down th' steps."
GM Tyranius |
Hahaha. :) Didn't check to see if we had any smarter yaks yet.
Vanderhoff peers past looking for room to enter as Wren weaves a bit of magic on the dwarf, making Vanderhoff feel like a true hero.

@Kraygan- That is fine if they want to use it. I know it is a little difficult setting up some stuff with PbP without waiting an extra day or two due to schedules.
Kraygan charges into the room with a wild yell atop Haggis. As he enters the room he glances across and sees a wolf on either side flanking him. Quickly swinging his lance to the side, Kraygan is able to fully impale the red furred wolf on his lance.

The two orcs seem to be watching out for everything around them as Grenseldek plows past them. Stoopid Orcs..... She glowers as her large chest heaves from side to side as she tramples through the area, slamming a fist into the green orc giant to push her to the side.

Finally freeing himself he claps a thunderous fist against the half-plate armor and his size nearly doubles in the blink of an eye.
Haggis rams at the green orc but does little more than bounce off of it's studded leather armor.
Jorgan tries to split the wolf open but is not quick enough before the wolf completely grapples him. Dropping his axe he decides to use his new scimitar. The wolf howls in pain as the sharp blade slices the wolf wide open. The wolf looks like it will nearly fall over as it continues to hold firm.

Kraygan had heard the stories from greybeards about the "moment of glory." In the heat of battle, when the moment is right and the gods are with you, a true warrior can enter a state of martial prowess where time seems to slow.
Having no experience with such a thing himself, or with the type of magic Wren was weaving, he can only surmise that his "moment" has come.

If Team Jorgan/Yak doesn't take out the wolf, Van will direct an attack toward the cagey canine. If the wolf goes down, Van will move to the north of Kray and swing at Red Orc.

Wren gets 'credit' for Kray's crit, right? Since it was the haste attack? That's how we tabulate who's winning, right? Wren is winning PF. Totally.
Round 3, Init 9
Wren watches Kraygan skewer the red orc in a glorious fountain of blood.
He wonders if any more of his magics are going to be needed. Wren fires a pair of his orc bane arrows at green, trying to avoid yak and dwarf alike.

Haha! Wren is completely winning. When it comes to looking like a crazy cat lady with the amount of yaks and dwarves he is fostering
As the wolf went unconscious dragging Jorgan to the ground Vanderhoff instead uses his hammer on the green orc. Vanderhoff's hammer swings right over Malt's head and slams into the giant orc's ribs, cracking them.
Torgan's hammer smashes into Grenseldek's armor, leaving large dents all throughout the scale mail. One of his is set for striking the large Giantress right in the face just as the orc with the red eyes shoves her out of the way and takes the blow in her stead.
In Harm's Way feat
Large Kraygan punches the green orc right in the throat as it starts to drink the potion, making it choke on it's contents. Turning his lance around Kraygan arcs his arm back and brings it right into the giant orc's chin, breaking it's next in one blow.
Planting his feet firmly in the threshold of the room Wren easily lands two arrows into the chest of the blind orc, staggering it.
