Wren.
|
Wren dismisses his spell before the final words are uttered. He shakes his head at the dwarf, more accursing the dwarf's decision to wear armor on decks rather than the accident itself.
He turns to go climb back up his ropes...but comes down again to stand in front of Vanderhoff. He fine elven finger points in the dwarf's chest.
"If you're going to be swimming, take off your dang armor. I'm assuming this ship already has a functioning anchor and we don't need another," Wren grumbles. "But if you feel naked without, I'll protect you for a time while you're working the lines. There is a reason that sailors all over the world tend to forgo steel weights while they work over open water."
If Vandy accepts and removes his protective plating, Wren will Mage Armor him up for 4 hours, forgoing any protections for himself.
With the danger over, Wren takes his time to climb back to the 'nest.
| Torgan Steelkeg |
"Glad ye made it back, cousin." Torgan states as he claps the waterlogged dwarf on the back.
The blonde dwarf turns to the captain, rising to defend Vanderhoff. "Dwarves ain't meant fer th' sea an' everyone's fine. It won't happen again." he states to the man.
Once everything is settled, Torgan will venture back down to the oars and continue to row the ship.

The Captain moves down as Coxswain goes back down below. It is alright. Coxwain means well. She just cares about the boat and crew. As she is a full-blood no one else will have her you see but she has stuck by this crew through more than you will believe. Like I said you are all part of the crew now. He's lucky on of those oversized River Vultures didn't take him away.
Raag Bloodtusk heads back to the helm of the vessel and the rest of the day seems to continue without incident as the crew heads back to their duties. A small handful return to the deck with tools and equipment as they repair the broken railing.

I'm not risking my neck again to save them if another armor clad bottom trawlers decides to go fatty-dipping again. My legs are too unsteady on these ropes for that.
| Kraygan Steelkeg |
Earlier, after Vanderhoff's rescue...
From beside the mast, a place that seems the most secure and furthest from the railing, Kraygan yells right back at the coxswain. "I don't know much about boats, but I'm pretty sure that a railing is meant to STOP FOLK FROM FALLIN OVERBOARD!!"
Kraygan's breath comes in rapid bursts, his eyes darting to the railing like its a dangerous animal that might at any second pounce upon another victim. "I said it before - his boat's gonna be the death of us all. Like a gods damned funeral barge!"
At Wren's suggestion that Vanderhoff remove his armor, Kraygan looks shocked. "Take off his armor? Ye see all the teethmarks on it? Probably saved his damned.. er, Angradd forgive me." He makes a hurried holy sign with his gauntleted fist, then bangs it on his own armored chest. "Good steel kept ye alive. Don't listen to him Hoff."
He backs up Torgan's words with vigorous nodding, and immediately shuffles carefully back to the stables. "Don't worry, I don't plan on steppin back on deck until this trip is over."
Later, with the Captain...
Knowledge Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Kraygan listens to the Captain with respectful silence, something unusual for him. He also seems to be studying him, sizing him up. When Raag turns to leave, he moves to get his attention.
"Heard you fought in Urgir's Pits. When ye got a moment later, I'd like to talk fightin styles with ye."

The rest of the day continues with no incident as they crew heads for bed to rest their weary muscles. Wren's pale skin seems to have become a little tanner.

The morning call awakens you to your duties once again. The crew stretches their muscles as they get back to work. Going throughout your tasks Vanderhoff gets little more beratement from Coxswain as the orc spends the morning speaking with the Captain. Weigh Anchor and lets be off!

Stammering and coughing up water, he rolls over to his knees and vomits river water on the deck of the ship. Wiping his beard and mouth, he glares at the coxswain, but says nothing only muttering into his beard.
Moving toward his companions, he clasps each on the arm. "Thank you lads. I thought I were a goner fer sure!" Glowering at Wren, he shrugs.
The following morning he rises, and moves onto the deck, armorless.

With graceful wings and wide fins, these sleek dragons look equally well equipped to glide through sea and sky.
The crew begins to scatter all about the deck as the Captain yells. DAMNED SEA SERPENTS ARE BACK AGAIN!
The two smaller dragons come at astounding speed 30 feet above the deck and spit a thick mucous at the area where Wren and Jorgan are standing.

Wren breaks free of the caustic slime, though his feet are still a bit sticky and throw his aim off firing an arrow into the opposite railing.
Torgan grasps Agrimmosh, which seems to fit his hands perfectly. When he is not holding it the warhammer always seems bigger.
To his surprise in his retaliation against the drakes, he realizes that this is the first point he has wielded the mighty Warhammer. For some reason the drakes look smaller than they did a moment ago which confuses Torgan as he cracks through part of the stable's wall.
Wielding Agrimmosh unlocked another power. Once per day As a full-round action the wielder can use the hammer to cast Heightened Enlarge Person on themselves lasting 20 minutes. Not only that but if the wielder confirms a critical hit against a humanoid, the target creature must survive a DC 23 Fort save or shrink by one size category as by heightened reduce person also lasting 20 minutes. This is all on top of the hammer also being a +2 Impact warhammer. You also feel as if there is a lot more too this hammer.
Torgan's hammer bashes against the drake but not hard enough to break through it's hard scales as his equilibrium is off from the quick unexpected change.
Jorgan summons an air elemental near the ship. The winds begin to howl as the smaller vessel rocks in the river throwing Torgan's aim off, imbedding his axe into the wooden deck.
Coxwain cries out in anger over the wind and drakes. ARE YOU ALL TRYING TO CHOP THE SHIP APART?
Vanderhoff also is able to break free of the drakes caustic acid and slams his hammer into the drakes wing, hoping to cripple it.

"Thanks," Wren mutters. "Should we go get the horses remains back? Maybe the Captain has a relationship with his horse like Jorgs does with his Yak. I *could* rally to go get it, but doubt that it still lives."

"Well, we better go get 'em 'fore th' drakes eat lunch." Torgan surmises as he wipes dragon brain from his shiny new hammer.
"We should suspend all non-priority activities until we reach th' drake's nest. That means rowers an' lookouts only. Kraygan with me an' th' rest o' ye keep eyes peeled." he barks out to the indecisive party.

Kraygan stands ready at the ballista for a few moments after the battle, examining the siege weapon, scanning the cliffs for the third drake, and talking to the loading crew to see if they have a designated man to fire the thing. Once it's clear the monster isn't returning he descends from the platform and begs some healing from one of his cousins.

Joining the others with the Captain, he crosses his arms and listens to the plan being formed.
"Seems to me we're anchorin the death barge right here." He says, looking around the boat with disdain. "I'm thinkin we gotta scale this here cliff. I got rope. Who's our best climber?" His gaze rises up its face and he mumbles to himself in thought.
"To bad we don't have a catapult."
We have climbers kits, ropes, and grappling hooks. How hard is the climb? Kraygan has a Climb +8 (+1 in his armor). What are we looking at here?

"To bad we don't have a catapult."
The you could launch dwarves at the drakes and giants.
Jorgan: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Torgan: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Kraygan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Vanderhoff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Wren: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Everyone but Vanderhoff seems to be on a quiet lookout for where this drake went with the horse as they spot a small cave opening right at ground level. Dragons are convenient like that. Vanderhoff was looking for an entrance much higher.
The boat weighs anchor 60 feet from the cave and the Captain looks to you. This is up to you. You can go I after the horse for me or your Yaks can pull the boat, which is it? We can cover the entrance with the Ballista if ye want.
