Toramin Gearsmith |

Theoretical AoO favoring Nuro or Caladwen as targets.
AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 1) + 10 = 17
I should also probably roll for Initiative while I am at it.
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Lindale Assa |

Before the door is opened and after Dalton imbues them with might, lindale casts his darkness on Bjorkus, "In case they try dispelling something from me. Since he has drow in his employ they will have an idea of my abilities."
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
He readies himself to cast his faerie fire on the king the instant the door opens for him to be located.
After a hopefully surprise round
Lindale then casts another faerie on any group of guards close by and moves to assist Toramin.

Lindale Assa |

Cut down the nobles I say!
Surprise was first faerie fire.
Round 1 was second and move.
Deeper darkness goes out 60 feet from Bjorkus. Here's hoping it's not dim in here... or I just created supernatural darkness heheh

DM Omen |

Toramin, you started at A2 and can move 20ft as a move action in the surprise round. The nobles will not attack you (as they have no drawn weapons), but they make movement difficult. To pass by them without reasoning with, threatening, or killing them would require a bull rush or overrun.
They were at normal lighting so your deeper darkness is having the desired effect.

Toramin Gearsmith |

When I moved my character he was half in A2/A3 (I took the liberty of deciding he was in A3), I then moved him to A4, A5, B5, C6. My mistake was moving past C6. Fixed.

Toramin Gearsmith |

I moved you. Tell me if that is the wrong spot for you.

DM Omen |

I will monologue damnit.

DM Omen |

Silly me, forgot flavor post.
As the room is breached, you notice several things at once. Two royal guardsmen at the door and one at each side wall, standing with broadswords in hand, pointed at the ground. The middle of the room is full of talking nobles, quieter than the ones outside but chatty nonetheless.
As your gaze shifts to the far side of the room you see a harsh, black, curved throne made out of what appears to be obsidian. And sitting on the throne, leaned to the side with a contemplative look on his face is the mad king, Nuro. Despite his reputation he appears to be an extremely orderly individual, sitting quietly in thought about something with a hand over his mouth. His midnight black hair is perfectly combed back and tied neatly, matching his well groomed, black, mustache-less goatee that has a hint of grey in it. He wears a suit/robe of a very dark green color trimmed with black and silver, and on his lap rests a wickedly curved blade as black as his hair that one finger slowly taps against. It's subtle, but you see the weapon slowly pulsing. Yet what truly stands out are his eyes, bright blue with just the faintest hint of gold. They flick from person to person, lingering on each for but a moment before moving on to the next. Underneath his hand you see him silently mouthing something to himself.
To his left is Caladwen, the sorceress. She sits on the armrest of his throne, one hand around Nuro and a small smile on her face. Her looks are very exotic (and very attractive), having dilated pupils that stare into your soul and raised cheekbones that aren't quite elven in origin.
To Nuro's right is Marcus, standing still save for the occasional transfer of weight between legs. He wears a suit of full plate without the helm, but what skin can be seen on his face and hands show enough scars to impress an orc. His dark brown is combed back, not as neatly as Nuro's but it looks like he takes care of himself. What's most interesting is his facial expression. Men have different reactions when they've seen too much violence in the world; some harden till they have no heart, some fall in love with the sport of killing and become mass murderers, some can't take the guilt and ruin their lives with the shame, some even manage to wade through the ocean of blood and keep their head held high. But he has an almost imperceptible smirk on his face that speaks of his amusement to the sport; not disdain, not not hardness, not even joy. Just...quiet amusement.
As the room is breached with darkness there's chaos. Most of the nobles scream and panic, trying to escape the violence but not knowing where to run. Two of them go white faced and draw daggers from their sleeves, holding them flat against their bodies. The guards try to move quickly and cover the breach, but the darkness confuses them as they begin inching forward.
Marcus immediately steps in front of Nuro, drawing a bastard sword in one hand with ease. Caladwen whips her head up, a look of sheer fury on her face. As the darkness falls she begins muttering something. Nuro's eyes simply flick over to the noise, and as the darkness swallows the room he calmly stands up, black blade in hand.

Toramin Gearsmith |

If Toramin gets an attack of opportunity in the coming round here it is. Toramin would prefer Caladwen or Nuro as targets.
(Power) Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 1 = 24
Damage: 2d6 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (3, 4) + 10 + 1 = 18

Toramin Gearsmith |

What is my detect evil getting me? I'm betting he has a Shadar Logoth blade. ;-)

Lindale Assa |

Don't you have to spend actions to use that?
Also. The spellcaster is mine! You and Bjorkus need to bash that stupid bodyguard down. I have my drow poison dagger ready ;)
Edit: DM. I just checked something, faerie fire doesnt give a saving throw :D but it does get affected by spell resistance in case any of them have it :(

Psotheos Arjax |

Surprise round
Psotheos waits for Lindale to cast a faerie fire around their enemy before launching an arrow.
Round 1 — If he’s not attacked by the royal guards, then he’ll fire at the same target (hopefully Marcus since he's in front of Nuro) as the surprise round. If he does get attacked, he’ll draw his rapier and fight back.

Toramin Gearsmith |

Don't forget your sneak attack if Nuro is in range, he is flat footed during the surprise round.

Bjorkus |

Surprise Round
Inspire Courage
Round One
Since his allies were busy rushing Nuro and his retinue, Bjorkus set his sights on the guards. Trailing his massive axe behind him, the bull closes on the bewildered armored men and cleaves into the nearest one.
Rage
Axe vs Flatfooted Guard: 1d20 + 9 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 1 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d12 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 1 = 20

Lindale Assa |

Paladin Detect Good is standard(as the spell) or move(focused on 1 person or thing). How can it be just left on? It's not a constant ability.

Toramin Gearsmith |

It cannot. I had forgotten that it wasn't constant and then I was teasing you.

Dalton Barrowwheel |

I'm assuming Dalton cast Bull's Strength on Toramin before the surprise round; it's not like we didn't prepare for the casting.
Surprise Round: Shield on self.
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Again with this darkness. Very bothersome indeed... Dalton heard the nobles' cries as somewhat of a vindictive repayment though - the price for their complacency and contempt of the common.
Round One: Begin channeling detect magic in the sorceress's direction.

Toramin Gearsmith |

Dalton, Nuro is lit up by fairy fire if you are into attacking him.

Dalton Barrowwheel |

He is more interested in learning about potentially unsuspected threats at the moment. Next round, perhaps.

Lindale Assa |

Nuro and the two with him are faerie fired. ALSO the two guards near you that Bjorkus is attacking are lit up by my second casting of faerie fire.

DM Omen |

As the party breaches most of them use the confusion to move into the room and set up for their attacks. Arjax wastes no time and leans around the edge, letting an arrow fly into Marcus's shoulder. Lindale outlines their targets, Bjorkus begins a rousing chant, and Dalton throws up protective magic.
Lindale lights up another target, and everybody sees Caladwen's eyes narrow at the magic. Toramin finds himself unable to swing around Marcus to hit Nuro so he brings his hammer around to hit Caladwen in the gut. Bjorkus catches a guard before he can react, burying his axe a foot deep into the mans side and dropping him. Dalton begins locating magic, still working on pinning down the specifics. Arjax lets fly another arrow, but this one fails to pierce Marcus's thick armor. Gabriel clashes with the guard on the northern wall, leaving a bad leg wound but the man still stands.
Cala steps back, casting a spell you all heard the other day...daylight. Suddenly the room is returned to normal, and the party is standing in the middle of several very angry hostiles. The first strike is the most surprising of all as two of the nobles stab forward with daggers. Toramin feels the blade slide off his armor but Lindale takes a knife to the collarbone, the wound not causing serious damage but hurting terribly. Marcus lunges forward with his bastard sword, not striking but forcing his blade through Toramin's grip and throwing the dwarf's hammer to the ground. The Royal Guard, able to see again, begins counterattacking. You see Gabriel parry a blow, but Bjorkus overreaches and gets stabbed through the gut, blade coming out his side. The last living guard goes for Toramin, leaving a scratch on his armor.
Nuro stands, looking with curiosity at the party. He steps down from his throne, mysterious blade held low as he speaks softly. "So you come for my head." He smiles, brow lowering dangerously as he chants in the arcane. You see his weapon glow red, then burst into flames. "What a terrible mistake you have made." He shouts and swings down with the blade, a predictable attack that makes Toramin shift over so the blade catches on the thick part of his armor. However, the blade cuts through layers of protection and sinks deep into his collarbone, cutting through metal and skin like water. The blade started deep high but got shallow as it reached Toramin's ribcage, leaving a torso long scar that is already cauterized from the fire. The smell of burning flesh fills the room as Nuro laughs.
Lindale you take 3 damage from the noble...that was a crit too. Sigh, daggers and 10 strength. Bjorkus you take 15 damage, another crit. Toramin...you take 30 damage. Ouch.

It doesn't look like you rolled Toramin's chance to ignore critical hits.

Toramin Gearsmith |

I cannot believe shoccking grasp doesn't have a save.
May I control Gabriel as well for this fight? I would dearly love for him to smite some people. Nuro perhaps.
