Bjorkus snorts sending bloody spittle across the icy floor. He grips his giant blade with both hands and circles for another blow.

"You're gunna pay for that."

Holding out for some 5 foot stepping from Toramin so Bjorkus can get a flank.

Arjax pricks the creatures hide with another arrow while Toramin and Bjorkus both continue hammering at it. Then, Bjorkus brings his greatsword around and hacks into the creatures chest, making it roar in anger. Before it can retaliate, Toramin brings his hammer around in a devastating swing and slams it into the back of Bjorkus's sword, driving the metal nearly a foot deep into the creatures chest. A huge spray of warm blood comes out, and the creature drops to the ground.

Lindale twists his rapier under Bjorkus's hand, then pries the sword away. "Huh" The dwarf seems a little confused by his near death experience. He breathes deeply and pulls himself together.

"No doubt you weren't in your right mind, but Arjax was correct: that sword was cursed. This is what comes from despoiling tombs. The next time one of us could die."

Has the yeti passed during the confusion?

I don't think the cleavage is law versus chaos on the matter of life v. honor.

"The life of any person is worth a thousand dead names. We may all die, but the legacy of one person is no more immortal than that person. Eventually even the remembrance of a person is forgotten. These memories do not balance the scales against the breath of the quick. Honor is a good thing. Lives are better. We should not let the good become the enemy of the best, Bjorkus. I would trade my good name to see us and the rest of this city survive the coming bloodshed."

I think the good of society vs the good of the individual is very much a law v chaos thing.

Bjorkus snorts dismissively and readies his axe again.

"Let's get goin'. We got another half of a key to find."

Toramin is saying that the good of the individual or group is the good of actually being alive. Bjorkus, it seems, would justify his greed by some appeal to a nebulous honor. Boris may be entirely forgotten. His good name is not worth anybody's life. This is why I think Toramin is arguing on a different cleavage than you are suggesting.

Male Grizzly Bear 3 | HP: 30/30 l AC: 19 /T: 12/FF: 17 l Fort: +4, Ref: +5, W: +4 l Init: +2 l Per: +5; Low-light vision; Scent l Movement: 40

I think you misunderstood. Bjorkus stands by what he said earlier. We're in a war and he's not going to leave a powerful magic weapon behind. He was adding the possibility of clearing this guy's name as an added bonus. As far as he's concerned, the added risk from the curse is worth it.

I can't fiddle with the map right now but it sounds like we need to backtrack.

Agreed on the back tracking.

Shaking his head at Bjorkus' greed and selfishness, Toramin speaks, "We should see if these ice tunnels go anywhere else, but it seems like we will be back tracking to the fork in the tunnels."

If he is willing to place his greed over my life -- our lives -- maybe I misjudged him.

Psotheos’ sigh of relief when the yeti falls turns into a cry of anguish as Bjorkus stabs Toramin. Before the noble can move, Lindale adroitly disarms the half-minotaur. As the situation is resolved and the healing wand is used, Psotheos kneels at the yeti’s corpse, marveling at the claws and the size of the creature.

Not wanting to delay their exploration, Psotheos doesn’t enter into the conversation between Toramin and Bjorkus. They both had their points, but Toramin made more sense in this situation. With the revelation of half a key, Psotheos chuckles mirthlessly. ”I will search for doors or hidden spaces.”
