Bjorkus |
Heh, well I don't really understand it myself. Regardless we have a day of no DM so we're free to RP Bjorkus fuming and chomping at the bit while Toramin dries off.
Toramin Gearsmith |
For the wise, Toramin will teach you some dwarven calisthenics to get the blood pumping and increase body heat.
Toramin Gearsmith |
The lady doth protest too much. We all know you want a little dwarven action.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Dry and warmed by the ancient dwarven technique of jumping-jacks, Toramin follows Bjorkus and Lindale down the hall, when they encounter the yeti.
"Good day, would you mind yielding us that key?"
Toramin Gearsmith |
"Master Dalton, you are a learned man, what do you know of this creature? I expect, though I do not know, that we may want that key, Bjorkus. But wouldn't it be wrong to attack someone just because they deviate from dwarven or human appearances? A bestial mien can conceal a brave heart."
Toramin smiles at the last part to signal his respect for the manotaur.
Bjorkus |
Bjorkus snorts and growls.
”You saw the way he was lookin’ at me! He needs to be taught a lesson. I’m not sayin’ we need to kill him, just rough him up a bit.”
Toramin Gearsmith |
"True shame only comes when we fail our better selves. Violence is an answer -- it might be our answer here -- but do you think it should truly be our first response?"
Psotheos Arjax |
Having taken off his pants, Psotheos dries his legs with the wet pants. His legs are still cold, but not nearly as wet. He performs some of Toramin’s dwarven warming routine and then squeezes the excess water from his pants. Finally he puts them on and follows the party around the corner.
The yeti is there. Psotheos takes a step back ready to run before he realizes the creature isn’t about to charge. He listens to the discussion then adds, ”Do we know what it speaks and can we speak it? If we can't talk to it, I propose using one of my sleep arrows. I prefer to save them for my countrymen, but if the sleep enchantment can help us quickly resolve this situation, I will use an arrow.” He takes one of the white painted arrows and fits it to the bowstring.
”Any objections?”
DM Omen |
Long story short, unless you have some magic for communication you can't talk to it directly.
Dalton Barrowwheel |
The Dwarf touches on Dalton's pride. "While I know a great many things in my years, murderous beasts are unfortunately not my specialty." He gives a sniff of disapproval. "You had better hope that arrow's potency is strong enough; else we might be the next cow."
Lindale Assa |
After hurriedly trying to get as much water away from himself and out of his clothes Lindale finally has his armour back on and continues on with everyone.
"Using an enchanted arrow may be the best option here. Though I am confident we are smarter and more of a fight than that cow."

Speak for yourself. Bjorkus is looking might tasty...
Psotheos Arjax |
”Hopefully this goes better than trying to cross that lid,”Nodding to the others, he cautiously approaches the yeti. He attempts to judge how close he can get before the creature would attack. About fifty feet from the creature he stops, pulls the arrow back and fires.
hopefully that hits -- and the creature fails a DC 11 Will save
DM Omen |
If I threw something at lv 2 characters with more than 21 ac it better be a puzzle fight.
The arrow thuds into the yeti's shoulder with a dull thud. The yeti roars, then his eyes flicker, but he shakes it off and stands, flinging the bloody carcass off to the side. He rips the arrow out of his shoulder and charges!

Readying the hammer in case it doesn't fail that will check.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Toramin will step in front of the group, and ready an action to meet its charge with his hammer.
Bjorkus, Lindale, Gabriel -- Let it attack me first and then surround and flank it. Let's fight it smarter, not harder."

Delaying until after the yeti:
Answering the big yeti's roar with a bellowing challenge of his own, Bjorkus advances to the front pulling the massive two-handed weapon from its harness on his back as he does.
Whipping the giant blade overhead, the bull brings it down in a cleaving arc.

Toramin Gearsmith |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Toramin begins a traditional dwarven war chant, one of the lays that had driven armies of enemies to break themselves on dwarven ranks, but his heart was not entirely in it. If this creature is a dumb brute, it will attack me because I am closest.
Toramin Gearsmith |
Doesn't Dalton act after the yeti, if we progress the combt to his initiative he will have more information.
DM Omen |
Seems reasonable.
Arjax quickly looses another arrow, this one going just missing. The yeti closes the distance quickly and runs right next to Toramin, using his great claws to rip through the dwarves armor and continues to the swing to claw Lindale as well. As the bloody furrows appear on your chests, you feel your heart slow a bit as the intense cold surrounding the yeti freezes your blood. The party begins surrounding the yeti and hammering away at it.
Toramin takes 14 damage (remember I don't account for damage reduction) and Gabriel takes 15 damage. Toramin it tried to use its gaze on you as it charged, but you made the will save, which means you get an AoO on it. Bjorkus, if you want to get close enough to it to land that attack it will draw an AoO from the yeti do to his reach. Everybody else got within attacking range with a 5 foot step.

Ugh, it sucks missing by 1. F+@& that noise, flanking is awesome!
Psotheos Arjax |
Relax...relax...relax, he thinks drawing another arrow. He takes a breath. After his second breath, he aims. Third breath, he fires.

Lindale steps around the yeti to flank and then attacks.

Dalton Barrowwheel |
Though he didn't care much for this brawl, Dalton really didn't see a way around it now. Sucking-in his gut, he prepared to punch the yeti's - with his mind.
T.F.: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Toramin Gearsmith |
I posted my round 2 action last night in case the combat moved forward while I was out with friends in case you didn't see it. :-)
Dalton Barrowwheel |
Two beasts fighting. While he could leave it at that, amusing as it might be, Dalton did not want the yeti coming anywhere near him. If Bjorkus was lucky, he wouldn't be the second cow eaten as a snack today.
The wizard refocused his mind.
T.F.: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Not well enough, evidently; the disturbance of force was askew. How can I miss something so large? I'll have to practice if we ever get out of this place.
Though afraid of combat up close, Dalton didn't mind it from afar. Rather, the transmuter felt quite alive. Perhaps it was the adrenaline, or perhaps he just enjoyed having the feeling of power for once in his life.
