Casius Flann
Casius nods in appreciation of Anastasius's knowledge. "Thank you. If I'd tried to use a torch to burn it, it might have spread. Your way seems safer."
Casius Flann
"Well, then. Two down, seven to go. Let's see what awaits us next."
Casius looks over the door to make sure it isn't trapped before they open it.

Anastasius nods and grins. He seems happy to have contributed to the group.
At last. My feats are acknowledged...
"You're welcome." he replies as he follows Cassius further.
Saulric The Black
Saulric lifts his tower shield ready to move forward and take any hits once Casius says it's clear.
Casius Flann
Casius reads the inscription, then looks to the others and says, "I suspect that we will have to fight something in this chamber. Saulric, would you prepare to open the doors? Wade, you look a capable warrior. Would you also care to take the front line?"
Turning to Kira, he says, "Shall we look over this door for traps?"

My pleasure. Kick in the door.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Well, whatever is in there is certainly aware of us. Perhaps opening the door the traditional way would be a better choice?"
Kira Petrilus
Kira rolls her eyes at the extreme show of force, then pulls out a small hand crossbow and loads a bolt, "Well, then I guess we shouldn't wait," she says and prepares to enter the room.

None of you specifically said you were going to open the door so I’m assuming it’s Saulric. Also, Saulric, I couldn’t tell what your AC is, but since you’re a tower shield specialist I’m assuming none of those hits.
There’s a nice, lovely image of these cobras in images if you want to take a look at what you’re fighting.
There’s a nice, lovely image of these cobras in images if you want to take a look at what you’re fighting. Also, as a reminder, we switch to block initiative, so everyone’s turn is handled at the same time. One of my players in another game asked me if the characters can tell which enemy gives the initiative advantage in combat. I told them that they can only if intelligent enemies can also tell who in the party is giving the initiative advantage. So I leave that question to you all as well. do you want to be able to tell who you should focus fire on as long as intelligent enemies can do the same?
Wilhim
Whoops, man, I WISH I had 125 AC, nothing would have hit me ever. But I've fixed it. For future reference the link takes you to my character sheet, and it's been appropriately updated with the level.
Saulric shifts the weight of the shield and swipes at the closest of the snakes with his sword.

@GM: Is there a battlemap? Also... "Knowledge engineering" to recognize a monster? I'd say arcana, looking at them ;)
Engineering (buildings, aqueducts, bridges, fortifications); This is the most important skill with regard to technological subjects. Knowledge (engineering) can be used to identify a robot’s abilities and weaknesses. Knowledge (engineering) is also used to identify and understand unknown technological objects in a similar manner to how Spellcraft is used to identify the properties of a magic item. The DC to correctly identify and understand an unknown technological object is equal to the object’s Craft DC. An object with a Craft DC of 15 or less can be automatically identified and understood by someone trained in Knowledge (engineering) who also has the Technologist feat.

Seeing the frontliners have the situation well in hand, Anastasius tries to attack with a ray of frost.

You’re right, I meant to say knowledge arcane. Identifying monsters is one of those things I have trouble keeping straight in my head because the identifying rules don’t make a lot of sense to me. For example, these things. Why aren’t they knowledge engineering? I mean I understand why their knowledge arcane, but why aren’t they knowledge engineering?
Also I can set up a battle map for you if you want. I figured there wouldn’t be much of a point to it since you’re in an empty square room.
Lazarus "Z" the Rat
Lazarus looks at the metal snakes and raises and eyebrow. This is well and truly out of my wheelhouse. Looks like it meant physical strength after all.
Nevertheless, he strides forward and attempts to at least provide a bit of divine blessing to his allies. He touches Saulric on the shoulder and invokes a blessing in Infernal.
Saulric gains a +2 profane bonus on his attack.

GM, did my Painful Stare have any effect on the Cobra?
Casius considers his limited alchemical resources and all other options, then gets out his whip and cracks it next to one of the cobras, trying to force it into Saulric's blade.

Well, that's the downside of not using maps. On the other hand, four of us (Saulric, Kira, Casius and Wade) are actually engaged in melee. It might seem logical they flank.
Kira Petrilus
Okay then, how about an acrobatics to slip by and flank the one on the far side of Saulric, it looks like that should be within 30' for that. If I can't get into flanking, then I'll move up as far as I can and aid Wade, cause sneak attacks the only way I can get through their DR.

Guys, I rolled a 12 and missed with a 20 earlier. No point in aiding me when you could be attacking.
Kira Petrilus
Kira knows (and tried to share without metagame stuff) that she can't hit hard enough without sneak attack to do any damage at all, and I can't get in to flank this one yet.
Saulric The Black
If you criticalled you could. And just saying Wade, I took out two, we only HAVE one more.
Casius Flann
I'm in the same boat as Kira - without painful stare, I can't deal sufficient damage, barring a dagger critical (didn't roll high enough even if I were using it). A lot of my weapons are set up for later levels, when I get more feats. I mean, I could try tripping it, but it's a cobra. It doesn't have anything to trip. At this point, with only one left, I don't want to use acid or alchemist's fire, because then I might hit you guys.

Everyone who attacks either fails to hit or has their attacks bounce off the cobra. The cobra once again fails to bite Anastasius.
I am pretty sure there’s some sort of special rule for surrounding an enemy on all sides but I can’t remember what it is and I’m too lazy to look it up.
