Saulric The Black
I'm guessing that's flavor text for saying the room is pitch black. Could somebody please relieve me of this torch so I can fight effectively?
Casius Flann
Casius squints as he attempts to see through the darkness, then pulls out a torch, lights it, and tosses it into the room to see if it can be seen through the darkness. "Let's see if this illuminates the challenge before us."
GM, would someone with darkvision be able to see through the blackness?
Casius Flann
Casius stares nonplussed at the darkness he tossed his torch through. "So, this isn't a physical wall, and we would be able to pass through. Timeon, is this your life-draining darkness?"
Kira Petrilus
Kira stares into the strange room and mumbles to herself for a moment. Finally she casts a spell, pointing tot he orb as it starts to lift, "Stand back."
Casting Mage Hand
Saulric The Black
Saulric kneels down to give Kira her best line of sight and sets himself to attack anything that might attempt to inflict harm upon his party.
Casius Flann
"Nicely done, Kira. Hold it steady, please."
Casius focuses, then his eyes begin to glow as he scans the orb for any signs of magic.
Cast detect magic. Round 1 to indicate the presence of magic auras, round 2 to identify the magic auras, round 3 to identify if it's an active spell effect. Knowledge (arcana) DC is 15 + spell level.
Knowledge (arcana) on the orb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Kira Petrilus
Kira holds the orb steady as Casius examines it. "When you are done, I can move it towards or away from us as needed."
Anastasius Poli
Anastasius focuses his stare on the globe.
Detect Magic
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
GM Kobolum
Anastasius can tell that the darkness radiating from the globe is as per the Darkness spell.
The book never states rather the globe is a magical item or just an item with a spell effect on it. For convenience, I’m going to say both until I can look it up, but your knowledge check was not enough to identify this spell effect.
Anastasius Poli
"It is the orb which is responsible for the darkness in this room. Destroy it and it will cease. Carry it with us and we can use it when we need it." says Anastasius, searching in his book for answers about the orb's specific lore.
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
Casius Flann
"Does anyone have a sack we could shove it in? That should stop the darkness and allow us to keep it whole. Otherwise, let's just shatter it and move on."
Saulric The Black
Saulric immediately offers his backpack. Don't know if it'll contain the magic, but doesn't hurt to try.
Kira Petrilus
Kira begins to float the orb towards them until it is in within reach, then grabs it handing it to Saulric to store.
Saulric The Black
Saulric accepts the orb and puts it in his backpack. Timeon, carry this will you? He says while holding the bag towards the young man.

Sorry this took so long, but good news, things are happening.
Anastasius’ magical knowledge brings up several facts of immediate note. Obsidian is known to react strongly to darkness based evocation. Using the volcanic glass for evocation spells will often result in the spell becoming permanently bound to even the most diluted of the material. The obvious drawbacks to this is that higher quality obsidian is needed to have the same effect for stronger spells and the smallest scratch will result in the spell being broken after a single day.
When the globe is stuffed in the pack the darkness goes with it, and when Saulric holds the pack out to Timeon a red mist descends and surrounds him.
? touch +7 vs Saulric: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 171d6 ⇒ 5 This is a surprise round touch attack, meaning no armor, shield, or dexterity to your AC. Also, take 1d3 points of constitution damage.

Casius Flann
Casius gapes at the red mist as it engulfs Saulric, then considers the room's lesson. ...burn thy adversary to ashes... Casius pulls out a vial of a volatile red liquid, then fixes it with a stare that insinuates its way into its consciousness - and causes it pain. He then threw the vial at it.
Alchemist's fire: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

Painful Stare Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Hypnotic Stare for -2 to Will saves. If it is immune to mind-affecting, that has no effect. Painful Stare does precision damage, so if this thing is immune to precision damage, it does not take the Painful stare damage.
Kira Petrilus
Is there a way for me to cast burning hands at it without hitting any of my allies?
GM Kobolum
Vampiric Mist’s HP 23/30.
Blood Siphon: 1d8 ⇒ 7 temporary hit points.
? touch +7 vs Casius: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 141d6 ⇒ 5 Constitution damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
The mist decides to attack Casius, which is proof that he managed to affect it.
I missed the fact that this attack is a bleed attack last time. And remember this is a touch attack.
Kira Petrilus
Sorry. Dang, I thought I'd posted my burning hands. Here it is now.
Kira steps to the rear and begins casting. A burst of flame comes flying out of her hands consuming the mist.
Fire Damage (DC 16 Reflex for Half): 1d4 ⇒ 1 . . . not that it did much good.
Saulric The Black
Well, sadly I'm deadlast even behind the monster's next turn. Also really wishing I didn't have meta knowledge on this thing right now.
Casius Flann
I'd also like to know if the thing was affected by the Command spell Lazarus cast last round, since that has an effect on whether or not I actually got attacked and what my action is.
Saulric The Black
Saulric slashes at the misty foe without much hope of hitting.

The mist creature is licked by Kira’s fire, and it dodges Anastasius’ ray. It does not, however, avoid Saulric as he swings his sword through the malleable creature, which appears to have been effective if the loud shriek can be taken as an indication of pain.

Kira pulls out her hand crossbow and loads it, beginning to take aim at the strange mist.
Casius Flann
Casius steps back from the red mist that struck at him, feeling his blood drain from his body. I'm going to die here, he thinks, as he pulls out another alchemist's fire and hurls it at the mist.

Sorry I misread my initiative and thought I was going after the monster on the count of *five* instead of *fifteen*
Wade isn't sure what's going on but he swings his scythe anyway, trying to kill the creature scythe to hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 4) + 6 = 13

Bot Lazarus short sword: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 111d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
? touch +7 vs Wade : 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 231d6 ⇒ 2Constitution damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1
Casius’ alchemical fire hits the mist, which appears to be ready to attack again fortunately for him though, William swings his scythe sprinkling the blade in tiny droplets of blood. It turns to Wade. Lazarus draws his sword and swings at the creature but misses entirely as it moves on Wade, sucking the blood out of him.
Everyone, go.
Casius Flann
The thing wasn't attacking him any more, so Casius pulls out another alchemist's fire and throws it at the red mist thing.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6 If I didn't hit the AC, but still roll above 10, it takes 1 damage from splash radius of the alchemist's fire. Painful stare is in addition to that.

Kira fires her crossbow, then quickly reloads it.
Hand Crossbow: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 3 - 4 = 18

My OOC knowledge says this is probably immune to critical hits, but just in case:
Hand Crossbow Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 10
Extra Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Anastasius Poli
Unable to do anything else in such a fight, Anastasius tries to fire another ray of cold.
RTA: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 for Cold: 1d3 ⇒ 1
GM Kobolum
Good, I don’t need to bot anyone because that’s enough to get it to run. If you want to try and make attacks of opportunity to kill it go ahead.
After the latest barrage of attacks the Mist screams and flies back into the room and up towards the ceiling. In the ceiling, there are simple holes (one inch in diameter) at regular intervals.
