Game Master Z...D...

The city of Daggermark is best known for its poisoners and assassins, who maintain active guilds that enjoy the full respect of local authorities. Local venture-captain Istivil Bosk prefers to keep his head down and stays out of their affairs, but he has recently learned that a Pathfinder agent has been targeted for assassination. Can the PCs enact the venture-captain's daring plot to save this agent without becoming the assassins' next victims?

Steady sleet patters against the window of Dryblade House, breaking up the Lodge’s eerie silence. Venture-Captain Istivil Bosk emerges from his office accompanied by dwarf in a military uniform, who pulls a flask from his coat pocket and fills two small glasses with vodka.

“I’ve already made excuses to my superiors, and I’ll check in myself every few hours to make sure the safe house is still secure,” the dwarf rumbles, handing one glass to the venture captain. “You focus on hammering out your agent’s escape route.”

“Already working on it,” Bosk replies. The two raise their glasses in a toast.

“Then may we take this story to our graves, and drag our heels the whole way there,” the dwarf proclaims as they each down their vodka. The dwarf sets his glass on the table, dons a thick wool cloak, and trudges out into the sleet.

“That was Brandur Clovesh, a sergeant in Daggermark’s infantry,” Bosk explains, closing the door after his departed guest. “Please excuse his brevity. He’s taking a big risk to help me out of a dire situation, the same situation that led me to request your aid. One of our local agents, a gnome named Timinic, has been exploring and surveying the sewer complexes beneath Daggermark. I made sure to clear his activities with every official possible so we wouldn’t draw unwanted attention from the Assassin’s Guild or the Poisoner’s Guild, which run the city behind the scenes. To my knowledge we’ve stayed in the Guilds’ good graces, but somehow Timinic’s mission ran afoul of...” A fit of coughing interrupts Bosk mid-sentence, and he begins gasping and clutching his chest. His vodka glass shatters as it tumbles from his hand. Moments later, the venture-captain collapses.

The captain while in the tripod position points over to the desk, in a raspy voice, he cries out "potion!"

We are in rounds right now, but I am not putting you initiative, so everyone can do a move and a standard.

Not certain if I see Clovish or not as I stepped outside. I mean, how far could a dwarf get in a few moments. If I see him, I will give chase. If not I will shout back toward Bosk asking where.

I missed that Jack handed Bosk the potion

Bosk reaches out and grabs the potion, he removes the stopper and chugs the potion. He drops the bottle and starts to cough more violently. He falls back on the floor, as a mixture of blood and foam comes from his mouth.

At this point we are out of initiative, since unless you have a specific item, which you all do not, per you character sheets, there is no way to get him back

With Bosk lay dead/dying on the floor the PC's begin to look around the room for causes of death.

Now we enter investigation mode. Each "round of checks" will take 10 minutes. You can only investigate one section of the room at a time. If you wish to investigate another area or wish to attempt another check, it will take another 10 minutes.

Bosk's; Body Craft (Alchemy) or Heal DC 15:
You realize that Bosk died of Heart failure after being exposed to a fast-acting poison. if you exceed this check by 10 or more or use detect poison and get the checks on that, open following spoiler

you determine that the poison is dark reaver powder laced with aconite root and other substances to enhance its potency, an intricate and customized recipe that is not available on the market. Aconite root in particular is known for its association with Daggermark’s Poisoner’s Guild.

The PC's notice a picture has been moved to the side revealing a safe.

Safe; Disable Device or force (10 Hardness, 10 hp,break DC 26):
The contents reveal that Brandur Clovesh brought the imperiled Pathfinder Timinic to a safe house on the city’s border, though it does not specify where. Timinic’s file also notes that while in hiding, Timinic will recognize those who call themselves “Guardians of the Open Roads” as fellow Pathfinders. Another earmarked dossier tracks the movements of a wanted killer named Cladara, and notes that Cladara’s murders have prompted city-wide investigations,an unusual response to deaths caused by any Assassin’s Guild member in good standing. A third file suggests an apothecary named Pemak may have connections to the Daggermark Poisoner’s Guild. In addition to the files you all find a coin, DC 27 spellcraft and a scroll, spellcraft DC 22.

Finally, you notice the desk, which is cluttered with maps and surveys.

You notice that most of the Pathfinder’s excursions began at the Dripping Wall Distillery. Timinic’s field notes also mention several encounters with suspicious folk lurking in the sewers near the distillery, and include requests to provide extra security for the distillery’s proprietor, Ramyla.

"Oh!" says a surprised-looking, disheveled woman wrestling with broomsticks and mop handles in the closet.

"Hello?" she says tentatively while attempting unsuccessfully to 'shevel' herself. The woman steps noisily out with a metal pail attached to one foot.

"I'm Faeria. Heh." Faeria's dirty but pretty face cracks into a sort of manic grin. Her eyes focus slightly from their initial glassy, wild-eyed surprise.

"So this is it the fabled world on the other side of the closet is it?" She says to no one in particular as the ninja holds up the coin and scroll.
