Kaye moves down the rope carefully, calling out questions to his companions below; as he emerges from the tunnel he realizes he's above Orin's head about 20 feet, and still just out of range of the tentacles. Rogzul recognizes the same.

Basically, the module calls it a full-round action to climb what should be like 40 feet of rope down to ground level of the bottom chamber, so we're being a little loose with the normal climb mechanics here. However, as Rogzul's wanting to cast and I assume Kaye wants to throw bombs, the two of you might be better off halting just below the ceiling-- i.e., still hanging onto the rope-- because that puts you out of range of the otyugh's reach, vertically. Whereas anywhere you're standing in the subchamber, you'll be threatened. I'm fine with saying you guys stop on the rope in order to do your castings/etc, but if you want to keep moving down to ground level (potentially provoking) let me know.

Navoreal sticks his blade out between the legs of the fleeing kobold, and manages to drop him, albeit briefly; the kobold hops back to his feet and eyes Navoreal with hatred. Your AOO tripped him, but he had a move action remaining and used it to stand, so he's not prone. You're still going to hit him regardless, though. A second later, Navoreal's blade slices an artful line across the kobold's scales, and the little reptilian drops with a hiss into the foetid waters. Red is unconscious

Gleam braves the writhing tentacles and sloshes forward to strike!

AOO vs Gleam: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Grab: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Damage from constrict: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

...unfortunately for the half-orc and his planned negotiations, a tentacle slaps out to meet him with bruising force and wraps around his middle, cracking a few ribs. 10 damage total, and grappled, which didn't stop you attacking, or critting, but would have meant you couldn't do with both hands. By my math, however, your single-handed damage is still more than enough to drop it.

Gleam ignores the pain and delivers a brutal hack with his falcata that opens up a three-foot wide gash in the otyugh's rubbery hide. The smell in this chamber somehow gets worse. Osten was already sloshing to the beast's other side to help, but he feels a sudden wave of dizziness. He can't help but wonder just what sort of disgusting filth might have been on those too large teeth...

The kobold in the tunnel doesn't try and come back to help his fallen friend-- he races down the pipe, and quickly disappears out of view by turning a corner.

Out of combat. The red kobold is not moving, in two feet of putrid water. Gleam has 10 damage, Navoreal has 6, and after the infernal healing has worn off, Osten should have 7 damage left, I think.

Perception DC 20 in the otyugh's chamber:
There's a few things of note in the foul muck of this chamber-- you find a satchel in a corner containing two potions, quickly identifiable as cure moderate wounds; there's also, in the central trash pile that the otyugh was using for camouflage, the half-eaten remains of a human body. The face is... not really recognizable, but the man does happen to have a wayfinder hanging around his neck, with his name inscribed inside: Gil Flemish. You're vaguely aware that there was a junior agent by that name who went missing, a few weeks back? Aside from his wayfinder, the unfortunate Gil has a small pouchful of coins, and a pretty ring etched with a little motif of wings.

Spellcraft DC 16 on the ring:

Spoiler:
It's a ring of feather fall

The kobold, meanwhile, woozily comes to to find himself bound, and squeaks unhappily. His reptilian cocks to the side suspiciously. "You want see chief? You let Krizzlenix live? Krizzlenix will not see a sunrise. Krizzlenix lives in the sewers! Duh!"

Minor issues of idioms aside... the kobold seems quickly enough won over, and fretfully explains the passage ahead:

The pipe leads to a stairwell that goes up; Krizzlenix says that the tribe reverently says the name of the tribe's patron dragon, Lirovelix, while they ascend this stairway, so that the great and terrible dragon does not devour them all. Furthermore, Krizzlenix tells you there is a real door and a fake door, and the real door is well hidden, but with Krizzlenix along he can show you where it's at.

"And that will take you into Trapmaster Tok's place! He is not the chief. He is the son of the chief. But you have to go that way to get to the chief!"

Kaye's wanderlust takes the better of him and he pokes around in the pile some more. "Oh, I think we found the Pathfinder. What's left of him, anyway..." He reveals the half-eaten remains of one Gil Flemish. "Let me get that Wayfinder... yes, this was the young man, Gil Flemish. Went missing a few weeks back. I guess he was fed to Gurva."

"He was wearing some kind of ring with a wing motif? Probably magical, but I'm no wizard. Anyone good at Spellcraft?"

"I wish I had that ring earlier." Rog says with a grunt as the party continues their sewer adventure. "Lirovelix is your dragon? Why do they live in a sewer?" Rog asks curiously, having never met a dragon before.

Rog is ready to move toward Thok as soon as the rest of the group is.

Plaguestone Map | Gallows of Madness Combat Map

The kobold's eyes get very wide at the question about Lirovelix, from Rogzul. "Oh, no, no no no no. Mighty Lirovelix does not live with us, topsider! Mighty Lirovelix is a great and ancient wyrm! She would not fit in these sewers! But Lirovelix's spirit watches over US, her descendants, and the chief communes with her! Now then...

"Krizzlenix will lead!" the kobold says, and scampers into the big pipe in the direction that the escaped one got away through, trusting you are following.

The pipe goes on into the distance, but after only a short span of feet there is the stairway the kobold spoke of. It's sized for small creatures, and looks fairly newly, and roughly, hewn... or more accurately, it looks as if it were once sized for human-sized folk, and then the kobolds hacked in further steps to suit themselves. It's a little awkward lifting one's feet every three inches, but not especially hard to traverse.

The kobold points at a door up at the top of the stairs. "That is the fake door. Tok has trapped it. And here on the wall is..." Krizzlenix feels around a little, hunting a catch.

"Let us pass, mighty Lirovelix!" the kobold intones respectfully, dipping his little reptilian head. "--you should all say it too. And Trapmaster Tok's workshop is on the other side of this door."

Perception DC 20 will let you see the outline of the secret door, but the kobold is willing to open it for you. If you have anything you wish to do before he does so, now's the time. Also, the map has been updated, if you dislike your order, move yourselves.

(Yes, a minute can have elapsed for the sake of I.H.)

Krizzlenix gives Gleam and Navoreal a look that seems to be mingled parts exasperated and frightened. "You didn't say her NAME," he says, but a booming voice drowns out his words.

"“You are entering the Dragons' territory and are not welcome. Leave now and live; you will not be warned again!"

"--I'm not with them!! They made me show them!" screeches the tiny reptilian, wincing as though he expects to be struck down by lightning at any second. But there's only silence in response to his words. After a few long seconds of awkwardness, the kobold hesitantly opens the secret door.

Map updated. The room beyond has a second story, shown on the right. Also, due to the small-size shelves that have been added in, the yellow section on the map is considered to be squeezing, for medium creatures.

A ten-foot tunnel leads what must have once been an old shop, at some point in Absalom's past... Ancient sconces with everburning torches cast an odd blue light throughout. You realize you must be at the back end of the back end of the shop, and that the double doors on the opposite wall were probably the original entrance. The walls are decorated with red wallpaper that is falling off due to mold and mildew.

Originally this was a retail shop; now every available surface is covered in alchemical supplies and half-built traps. Shelves that once held candy and gifts have been repurposed to hold a massive collection of well-used books. A pair of dilapidated stairs on either side of the room leads up to a loft overlooking the first floor. A large steaming cauldron and trapmaking equipment are visible on the second floor, as is a small writing desk. On either side of the second floor, large bay windows look out onto a lit, indoor chamber beyond.

GM rolls:
?: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
?: 1d20 + 38 ⇒ (6) + 38 = 44

Aside from the bubble of the cauldron, all seems quiet and still ahead. Your captive/diplomatic sortie looks at you all and shrugs, clearly not intending to be the first into the room unless you force him to be.

When you enter the room/have line of sight into the room, make me a perception check.

Perception DC 20:
You spot the same kobold who ran from you earlier, lurking behind a counter in the center of the room-- you just make out the tip of his tail on the floor next to the counter. Blue Kobold from earlier is directly north of the square counter that's in the lower center of the room, crouching behind it and using it for cover.

Sounds like everyone's where they want to be. I'll update later today but I'm being slammed with a work deadline right now, thanks for bearing with.

Okay, sorry about the delay!

There's no response to the words of diplomacy... at first. Then out of nowhere-- from the loft-- a projectile comes hurtling at the three who have cautiously entered-- and explodes in a roil of foul vapors.

Vs Orin's FF touch: 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 30 Yeah, that's a hit. Fortunately it deals no damage...

The blue-skinned kobold hurriedly runs around the stairs after Osten, but has a better shot on Navoreal, so lets a crossbow bolt fly across the gap between them.

Vs Navoreal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Navoreal, the duration of your shield is 2 minutes, yes? I think it might be expired by now; you guys searched a room and identified objects, interrogated a kobold, etc, and had to wait at least a minute for infernal healing to elapse. But I'll do it like this, a 50/50 chance it's not been two full minutes yet:

High means shield still up: 1d100 ⇒ 79 Okay, still up for this combat, but will be expired past it.

The bolt whistles past Navoreal's ear, but his magics protect him.

The gold-skinned kobold hisses at Osten, and scurries away from him.

Acrobatics to avoid Osten's AOO: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

The agile little creature has no trouble twisting past Osten's guard, and scurries to the edge of the loft-- and over, jumping lightly down to the level below, even as the foggy fumes dissipate. Stinking cloud gone, though unfortunately, Orin, your nausea still runs its duration

Acrobatics to jump, DC 15: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Landing with an exceptional grace, the creature keeps moving-- racing to the far wall with supernatural speed, then climbing up it like as nimbly as a spider. From up near the ceiling, he chucks another vial across the open space at the big human warrior who looks like the worst threat to him.

Vs Osten's touch, range penalty: 1d20 + 11 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 = 16
Cold Damage: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 5, 5) + 3 = 14 And fort save, please!

This time, the bomb explodes with shard of ice, that threaten to rime the warrior's form.

"Tok iss plenty ssmart enough to deal with you, topssiidersss," the kobold hisses with a derisive snort at Kaye. "You have mutagen? Good. I will ssstudy your notesss when you are my prisssoner!"

Kaye's bomb just hits the kobold. Tok snarls as electricity arcs along his hide, but when it fades, it seems like he hasn't actually been hurt.

Spellcraft or Craft Alchemy DC 18:
You don't think the protection is elemental in nature-- it seems to you more like false life.

Tok Reflex save vs the dazzle: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14

The electricity may not have fully hurt him, but it did seem to mess with his vision a little. Then the wall beneath beside the kobold abruptly becomes greasy.

Tok Reflex vs the grease: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25

Clever idea, and I'd have happily had him fall if he hadn't made his save! I put a green line on the wall to indicate at least horizontally where the grease is, you can adjust it if you wish, Navoreal.

However, even dazzled, the kobold is still very nimble, and easily scampers out of the greasy section and to a different bit of wall.

Gleam readies to deal with their guide/hostage, but he seems to be crouching down and cowering right now.

The kobold with the blue hide scampers back a step on the stairs, slots another crossbow bolt into his crossbow, and fires at Osten. If you have a weapon out, Kaye, it'll provoke

Vs Osten: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 2 = 15

Osten's magic protects him...

Tok tries to clear his eyes of the lights, and retaliates with a bomb thrown at Kaye. Alchemist throw-down!

Vs Kaye's Touch: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 1 = 17
Fire Damage: 3d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1, 3) + 3 = 10

Where Kaye threw lightning, the kobold throws fire-- recklessly, given that he caught the other kobold in the blast. The kobold shrills, trying to dodge the worst of it. "Owww! Master Tok! Careful! Please!"

Blue's reflex vs splash: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

"Then get out of my waayyy," Tok hisses back.

Reflex vs Burning hands: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23 Only the faintest singing happens, alas, as a result of Rogzul's fiery blast.

Orin's crossbow bolt misses the kobold, as does Gleam's chakram, but Navoreal manages to score a hit with a well-aimed arrow. This time, blood actually appears from the wound.

Osten is still having trouble cornering this small blue-hide kobold...

The little blue one recognizes it's getting squished into the ongoing combat, and tries to vault the stairwell railing and get away from Osten and Kaye.
