Much like his enlightened friend, Serge lazily walks along the path towards their destination. "Well, I supppose they call them ruins for a reason..."
Moments later, as the dogs approach, Serge quickly notices the threat and draws his nodachi. "As luck would have it, we'll be fighting off some vicious beasts before we even enter this place." He shrugs, and attempts to slowly move through the rubble towards the dogs.

Sifah, The Dude
Adamondais
|
Although impatient at first with the group's slow pace, Adamondais' mood improves as Absolom shrinks on the horizon. He spends much of the journey examining ordinary looking plants, insects, and rocks; occasionally bringing some of his more interesting finds over to show the group. It's possible that he doesn't get out much.
Adamomdais stops in his tracks when the fortress first comes into view and mutters a quick prayer, followed by a spiral hand gesture. Still, standing among the ruins seems to be easier on his nerves than waiting in the tavern, and he finds himself sharing some of the Dude's enthusiasm. It evaporates as the dogs approach.

These dogs look like common dogs gone feral, yet the average house dog doesn't carry diseases, unless inflicted upon them.
Adamondais flings a quick ball of acid at the dog, but Serge's struggle with the dog makes it difficult to properly hit, and the acid lands in the sand.

Dalir finds it difficult to keep to the Dude's relaxed pace during the journey. His energy level doesn't lend itself to loitering, and he keeps skipping ahead, skipping and jumping while moving.
When they see the wild dogs, he first idea is to scare them off. However, seeing them upclose and having to dodge its vicious bite brings him to other thoughts. While Babbou has leaped back out of danger, Dalir draws his scimitar. With a practiced and seemingly effortless slice, he aims at the aggressive animal's flank, testing the waters before fully committing. "Poor things..."

Looking at the bubbling patch of sand where his errant magic had struck, Adamondais responds to Sifah "I wouldn't worry overmuch. Based on our performance so far, we all seem to be a bit wet behind the ears."
Quick question: how long did the trip from Absalom to the fortress take, roughly? I might have an idea.
Adamondais
|
Inspired by the Dude's use of the stick, Adamondais reaches into his pack and retreives a paper-wrapped bundle. "Oi!" he calls, before tossing it to the ground between the blue and red dogs. The bundle smells of smoked meat and bread.
The bundle is one day's supply of trail rations. At the very least, it might serve as a distraction, and we aren't far enough from town for starvation to be a concern. Worth a try, I figure.

Looking at Serge, Dalir, and Sifah, he says "I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful. I'm afraid that I'm equally useless when it comes to treating wounds."
If the group takes a few minutes to recover or discuss their next move, Adamondais sets to work building crude cairns from the rubble for the three dogs. If the group seems eager to press on, he makes a mental note to come back and do it later.
When the group is ready to enter the ruins, he turns and examines them closely for the first time.

He demonstrates.

Serge pulls a blue cloth emblazoned with a bastard sword and a red wing from his pack and wipes his bloody ankle. "It does not bode well that I've experienced injury so early on," he says with a sigh. He pours some water from his waterskin to cleanse the bite. "I... don't suppose anyone might have the ability to restore my health? Such magic is beyond my knowledge."
Adamondais

"You were indeed quite brave," says Adamondais to the Dude, "to fend the beasts off with only a walking stick and no armor. I've never seen anyone fight quite like that, though I hear there are certain monasteries that teach a similar style."
To Sifah, he says "Those beasts were dogs. They're often friendly creatures; I had one growing up, in fact. Unfortunately these ones seem to have gone feral, and had to be put down."
Finally, addressing the entire party: "Well, it doesn't look like the fortress is going to come down around our ears. Be careful once we get to the upper stories, though. Especially near the outer walls, some of them look to be damaged."
Adamondais
|
Adamondais laughs, thinking of his old friend, and says to Sifah "Yes. I used to go exploring in the badlands outside Quantium with her. But again, she was very friendly. She certainly never tried to eat me."
I'm ready when the others are. Although that likely won't be until after Dalir and Serge have been patched up.
Adamondais looks at the entrance to the ruins, scanning it for danger.

"I'm not certain how one would be injured by such an activity..."

Wow, that's a lot of posts to catch up on.
Dalir's movements comes to a halt as the last of the dogs is dealt with and he cleans his blade. Tabbou doesn't really let up her mewing, and keeps her distance from the dead animals. When Adamondair works on building the animals a make-shift cairn, Dalir pitches in. "Too bad that we had to kill them. Is this what life in the wild is like? Kill or be killed? That can't be all, can it?"
He's about to answer to Serge's call for healing, but finds that the Dude has beat him to it. "I'm also able to deal with wounds," he says while hauling stones. "The church of Sarenrae even provided me with a wand that'll to the trick," he adds as he taps a slender ivory wand at his belt. He smiles. Perks of the goddess of healing, I guess."
Seeing as how Sifah is also injured, he moves over to her for a demonstration. "Here, please take me hand," he says. "Oh, those are cold..." He gives her a gentle tap with the healing wand. "You know, I'm not really the singing type of artist, but if I were, there's probably a good lyric to be composed... A song of frost and flame. How does that sound? Rubbish, right? Would never catch on... It's a good thing I'm a dancer, and not a composer." He lets go of Sifah's hand and looks up at the ruin. "Well, let's see what we can find."
Ready to move on.
