Knowledge: Religion to identify the creatures and any side effects for Abe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul walks over to him and soft whispers a healing prayer over the doughty halfling.

Hex Healing 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Sovereign Court

Venedictos, you recognize these as 'beheaded', a type of undead. They come in several varieties. These were flaming skulls.

Male Halfling Paladin 2

Abe pats out any small fires on his clothing.

"Thank you my dear." he says to the elf witch after receiving healing, bowing deeply.

Male Elf Wizard 2

@ Galahad
I wasn't going to say anything, I didn't know if Corey had some ill effects after seeing what was in the spellbook.

After looking at the spellbook for the entire duration of the battle, Corey folds the tome and puts it away in his pack, a blank look on his face.

"Those weren't the most pleasant kind of undead I've ever seen."

Sovereign Court

I was kinda waiting for your response to that :)

Corey:
When you look closely at the margin you realize your eyes apparently were playing tricks on you. It doesn't actually spell out your name.

Sovereign Court

The room itself has nothing of value. The hole in the floor looks like it might make it to the lower level, but is not very safe looking. The drop is about 20'.

Male Elf Wizard 2

Corey peers down the hole, standing at the edge of it.

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Can Corey make out anything down there?

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven walks up to the edge with Corey.

"Can you see anything down there?" he asks the spellcaster.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Sovereign Court

Just the bottom of the hole about 20' down.

Male Elf Wizard 2

"It looks like it's just the bottom of the hole, about twenty feet down" Corey says, turning to Ricven. I suppose we should move on."

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

The fighter nods, quickly looking around to room to see if there is anything else of interest before moving on. If he sees nothing interesting, Ricven once again prepares to go into another room of the haunted prison.

Perception for room 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Aerys shifts his grip on his spear. "Perhaps the small door up there?" he asks, gesturing to the north.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul nods, "Yes, we need to find the stairs leading to the lower level."

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

Could we tell from outside if there was more than one level above ground to the building?

Sovereign Court

Yes, the building is two stories tall. You also know that there was a whole section of cells beneath this level (thats where the fire was).

Sovereign Court

harrow 5

A huge stone furnace dominates this room, large enough for a child to climb inside. An ancient fire has burned away the entire east wall the room, providing a panoramic, if eerie, view of the lake beyond. That same lake has gradually expanded into the room, flooding its eastern half. The heavy iron door that closes off the furnace is decorated with a leering gargoyle face.

The darker shaded area is the furnace.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven moves in to explore the room, making sure to look in the furnace to see if it was part of the deadly fire so long ago.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

Sovereign Court

Ah, very good :) Everyone else make a perception check also.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 20 <-- A perfect roll, and still pretty pointless since I cannot beat a 21.

Male Elf Wizard 2

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Male Halfling Paladin 2

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Sovereign Court

not pointless in this case, it means you'll be able to act in the surprise round :)

Max HP: 16 | Current Hp: 16 | AC 13, T 10, FF 13 | CMD 9 | F 3, R 2, W 6 | Init +1 | Perc +7

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

And here I thought I probably would do better than Abe... Clearly, the halfling blocks Venedictos' view of...whatever.

Female Dark Elf Rogue 2

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Aeleanor wipes skull-juice off her sword absent-mindedly...

Sovereign Court

As Ricven approaches the furnace, he notices the face on the door begin to animate. Aerys, Shol'a'saul, and Ad'ifaah notice this also. The rest of the group must be looking in another direction....

The four people who notice the face animating may perform a full round action.

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Do I know what this is?

Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

If not attack:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

--> If I realize that this attack is a bad think from the knowledge roll, I will change it.

Sovereign Court

There isn't anything to attack. However, your knowledge religion roll identifies this as probably the manifestation of some sort of haunt. They are susceptible to positive energy damage and usually have a weakness that is based on the conditions the haunt manifests. You also have the 4 haunt siphons that you got earlier.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul acts on instinct as she reaches into her pouch and takes one of the precious haunt siphons out. Pointing it at the face on the door, she cracks the seal...

Siphon 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 5) = 7 damage

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven realizes he has nothing to fight a ghostly presence with, but thinks destroying the object it is in might help. He moves to the side of the object so others can freely attack, then brings his sword down hard in a sunder attempt.

Sunder power attack on face 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Damage 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 3) + 9 = 15 before hardness

Male Elf Wizard 2

Unsure of why his companions are attacking a furnace door, Corey looks confused. "What exactly is going on here?" The elf then strains again to look.

Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

"Oh my!"

Sovereign Court

So, Aerys and Ad'ifaah still have an action (you realized what it was so you don't attack, but you could use a haunt siphon).

Ricven, being uncertain of what he is facing, chooses direct action. Lashing out at the door, he heavily gouges the metal, but otherwise seems to have little effect.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

If it is susceptible to positive energy, could i try Disrupt Undead, aiming at the face beginning to move?

ranged touch attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

damage 1d6 ⇒ 2

If that isn't viable, Aerys would just let out a startled "What the..." to alert the rest of the party

With that attack roll, the stationary door somehow leapt out of the way...

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

If possible, I will cast a cure light wounds on the haunt.

The attack roll is above.

Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Sovereign Court

Aerys's bolt of energy hits the furnace door and Ad'ifaah touches it also. Then the door flings open a tongue of flame lashes out ( 1d4 ⇒ 1) at Ricven

Haunt vs Ricven 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 (touch)

damage vs Ricven 4d6 ⇒ (5, 1, 3, 3) = 12 (fire)

Sovereign Court

Everyone gets an action now.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Galahad, did Shol's use of the haunt siphon against the door have any effect?

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

HP 11/23

"Damn, that's hot!" the fighter bellows as he quickly comes to realize there is little he can do against this magic.

He quickly moves back so the others spells have a better chance of hitting. Then he brings up his weapon and focuses on the door, taking the total defense action.

Ricven gains a +4 Dodge bonus to his AC for one round. Touch AC now 16.

Max HP: 16 | Current Hp: 16 | AC 13, T 10, FF 13 | CMD 9 | F 3, R 2, W 6 | Init +1 | Perc +7

Venedictos will use a channel energy to heal Ricven and harm the door.
1d6 ⇒ 3

Female Dark Elf Rogue 2

Not having any way to combat an angry furnace, Aeleanor does her best to slip into the shadows.

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

The face apparently does not like healing energy.

Cast CLW vs. touch AC - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Male Halfling Paladin 2

"This will help."

Abe puts both hands on Ricven.

1d6 ⇒ 4

Lay on Hands 4/5

Sovereign Court

Shol’a’saul wrote:

Yes, you saw the siphon appear to fill with smoke and then become inert,

Sovereign Court

Venedictos's channeling is enough to finish off the haunt. The door becomes just a plain furnace door. Inside the furnace there is not even a trace of heat and the burning flesh smell dissipates quickly (except around Ricven).

Ad'ifaah, you save your spell.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

HP 18/23

Ricven turns to Venedictos and Abernathus after the furnace has been dealt with.

"Thank you for the healing. I feel much better now, and the burns are almost all gone."

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Watching the furnace and room.

We need to be more careful. Some of these nasties seem to have a vicious bite.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul walks over to Ricven and lays a hand on the fighter's forehead. Soon he feels healing spread through his body

Healing Hex 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

HP 23/23

"Thank you, Shol'a'saul. I think that got rid of the last of the burn marks."
