Venedictos |

Venedictos holds his arms out, gripping his glaive, and begins a beautiful chant. The birthmark on his forehead glows and healing energies wash out over everybody, giving everybody back 1d6 ⇒ 5 hit points back.

Aeleanor Asaaru |

Venedictos, is that channeling energy? Will that damage the undead, too?
Round 2
Aleanor grins back at Ad'ifaah as the zombie falls in front of her. Thanks! Looks like I'll have to hit harder next time...
She quickly gets behind the zombie attacking Abe and brings her sword down upon its rotting head, showing her teeth in a face of disgust.
Curved Blade: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 + 2 = 20
Damage:1d10 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 5 + (6) = 13

Venedictos |

Venedictos, is that channeling energy? Will that damage the undead, too?
That always depends on the GM. On these boards, I always assume GMs go by RAW, which says no, either heal or damage, not both. I do both in my home game and the PbPs I run, and don't really find it that over-powered, especially at the lower levels. I can see at higher levels, doing 7d6 healing and attacking undead at the same time in a 30-foot burst might be a little unbalanced, though at 13th level, there are usually much better things a cleric can be doing.

Aerys Trajyon |

Aerys spits out a curse as the skeleton's claws trace ragged lines of blood down his arm. Nyx hisses and snaps at the desicated corpse from his shoulder.
I assume since Venedictos is after me in initiative, i would still have to deal with the damage i took while casting? Aerys would try to take a 5ft step back to avoid casting defensively

Skel vs Shol's chill touch 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Shol's spell seems to have no effect on the skeleton facing her, both Abe and Ricven miss their targets also. Then the remaining skeletons attack their targets, but, except for one hit on Aerys, they fail miserably.
skel vs Shol att 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Wow! you guys dodged a bullet there :)
damage vs Aerys 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Aeleanor moves up behind the zombie attacking Abernathus and cuts it down, while Ad'ifaah goes to Shol'a'saul's aid and hits that skeleton. Her blade, however, seems to have little effect (she does 2 pts.). aerys, unfortunately, misses his target as well. The remaining zombie continues to attack Ricven, but like the skeletons, fails to land a blow.
zombie vs Ricven 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
undamaged skeleton's will savs vs Ven's channel 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
zombie's will save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Everyone feels a healing power as Venedictos unleashes a wave of positive energy. All three skeletons crumple to the ground, but the zombie appears to have taken minimal damage.
Everyone heal 5 pts of damage.

Venedictos |

As a house rule I consider channeling positive energy to be a wave of positive energy that does both. So it works here.
So did the undead have to make Will saves versus Venedictos' channeling?
Assuming yes to the above question, Venedictos will channel again.
1d6 ⇒ 6 Will save DC 15 for half damage

![]() |

As there is only one zombie standing and everyone except Venedictos goes before it, I will assume you kill it before it can do anything. If Venedictos still wishes to channel again, that will heal everyone to full (I have Aerys at -2hp and Abe at -4hp).
You surround the last zombie and chop it apart before it can attack Ricven again. Looking around you see no more disturbances, but there are now eight open graves.

Shol’a’saul |

Shol'a'saul looks around her and murmers softly, "We should re-bury these corpses again. I wonder..." She examines the corpses for any traces of necromantic energy which was used to animate the corpses.
Spellcraft 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 to determine if a spell was used to animate these undead.

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

Lets check out the graves. Something animated them, perhaps there is something in the grave to tell us why.
I go over and start to look at the graves.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4 <-- and all I see is holes in the ground, although I am so blind I actually only see 3 of the 8 holes apparently.

Ricven Hartwar |

As the others check the bodies and the graves, Ricven looks around to see if there is any sign of a person or trap that set all this off.
"Can undead feel the tremor of our footsteps? Or even sense the living so they can find their prey?"
Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
After all, he thinks to himself, the undead were underground and couldn't see the party to know when to attack.

Aerys Trajyon |

"Yes, perhaps burying them again would be wise. Something tells me this," he gestures to the fallen corpses, "Would less than endear us to the people of Ravengro." He looks to Venedictos. "Would you have a prayer or blessing to... perhaps give them a somewhat less active stay here in the Restlands?" Aerys then likewise helps to search the area, looking to see if perhaps the spellcaster responsible for this left any signs.
[ooc]Perception check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Ricven Hartwar |

The fighter raises an eyebrow.
"I know when to keep my mouth shut. But if you mean some sort of stealth, that's not something I'm good at."
If the others plan to be sneaking about, Ricven will stay behind because he'd ruin that. If they just plan to find a nearby bush and sit in it, he can do that.

Venedictos |

Venedictos says some prayers over the reburied dead, and sings a liturgical requiem for the dead from the rites of Pharasma.
Perform - sing: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Later that evening, he accompanies Ad'ifaah to the tavern.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25

Ad'ifaah and company find the tavern to be much more subdued than usual and most townsfolk are not inclined to talk with you. At night, your wztch of the monument provides no clues and the night passes uneventfully. On the next day you continue your research (except for those that choose to sleep in). Following up on his hintd from yesterday, Corey finds the records of the fifth famous prisoner:
The Splatter Man (Hean Feramin): Professor Feramin was a celebrated scholar of Anthroponomastics (the study of personal names and their origins) at the Quartrefaux Archives in Caliphas. Yet an accidental association with a succubus twisted and warped his study, turning it into an obsession. Feramin became obsessed with the power of a name and how he could use it to terrify and control. Soon enough, his reputation was ruined, he’d lost his tenure, and he’d developed an uncontrollable obsession with an imaginary link between a person’s name and what happens to that name when the person dies. Every few days, he would secretly arrange for his victim to find a letter from her name written in blood, perhaps smeared on a wall or spelled out with carefully arranged entrails. Once he had spelled his victim’s name, he would at last come for her, killing her in a gory mess using a complex trap or series of rigged events meant to look like an accident.

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

Well all. So, we have the first two letters of a name written in blood. "V" and "E" and an obsessed nutcase who liked to spell women's names before killing them. Which leads the the question - who is "VE"?
I look at Venedictos.
It could be you, but I doubt it. We need to start asking around as to whose name starts with VE. Does anyone recall the name of the warden's wife? I thought that it started like that.

Ricven Hartwar |

Ricven will accompany them to the monument, and take total cover behind an object or bush so his poor stealth skills won't hinder them. He'll come out of hiding if he hears them call out for help or the sounds of combat.
Before they leave, he'll suggest trying to ask the spirit board a question again since it was silent last time.
I think we're ready for the prison

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

Abe goes with Ad'ifahh, Aerys and Venedictos to the tavern, leaving the more stealthy types to the vigil at the monument.
Ready for the prison in the morninig
This is starting to sound like a bad joke. A priest, a paladin and a sorcerer go into a bar . . .

Aerys Trajyon |

3rd watch: Ven, Corey, Ad'faah
did i miss anyone? I thought that gives us some balance with classes/darkvision/lowlight - it shouldn't be pitch black out. maybe extend watch length to 3 hours, starting at about 9pm? different arrangement sound better to anyone?
