Shol’a’saul |

Once the research has been completed (sadly without Shol'a'saul's assistance, as she found the human scrawls hard to decipher), Shol'a'Saul speaks, "I wish to head to the Unfurled Scroll, as they may have additional information. Would anyone wish to go with me?"
Should no one want to go with her, she will head there on her own.

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

I think that there are only two of us with the correct knowledge skills. So I think it is Abe and Corey, we send one to each with the 2 helpers with the highest Int scores so that we get good assists. The other 4, people with high diplomacy, bluff, intimidate, charisma scores can case the town and see what we can learn.

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

It is up to the DM, but I say that we all just put in 3 days of research rolls. With Corey/Abe doing the main rolls with Ven and Aeleanor helping Abe while Shol and Ricven help Corey.
.
The rest of us can wander the town and try to get any rumors or information about the prison, the Whispering Way and/or the Professor - or anything else interesting.
.
If anyone is wondering, I have tried to break the groups up by Knowledge skills, with the most intelligent assisting. And then put the charisma people in the rumor gathering groups.
.
By doing rolls for 3 days at a time, we can get through stuff a lot faster.
Gather Info-day 1/Diplomacy:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Gather Info-day 2/Diplomacy:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Gather Info-day 3/Diplomacy:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Thats fine with me, let me know who went where. The Town Hall is a single person. The ones that go to the Temple can be assisted. I will use them in order, as there will be stuff happening between them.
So far I have:
Abe at the Temple w/ Shol assisting
Aerys & Ad'ifaah gathering information
I assume that means Corey will go to the Town Hall.
Does anyone else assist Abe?
Venedictos: We are going to the next day.

Venedictos |

Venedictos will actually assist in the information gathering, then, as he'll be more useful there than adding his measely +2 bonus for aid another rolls.
Diplomacy 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Diplomacy 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Diplomacy 3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Perform - singing 1 (to help placate or amuse the crowds): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Perform - singing 2 (to help placate or amuse the crowds): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Perform - singing 3 (to help placate or amuse the crowds): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Edit: I guess Vene is coming down with a bit of a cold over the next few days. Pesky damp Ustalvan weather!
Then it's just a matter of knowing if these first checks are for the day the "v" appeared, or the first day after.

On Day 2 when Shol'a'saul goes to the Unfurled Scroll, she sees a group of children playing outside. To one side she sees a group of five little Varisian girls, dressed in shawls and dresses, playing a skipping rope game at the side of the road. Each of the girls takes turns jumping in the rope while singing two lines of a rather disturbing song, then skips out of the rope to let the next girl take up the next two lines. The way in which the girls switch from skipping to passing the ends of the rope to each other to keep the whole thing going is strikingly well timed and well choreographed—and the verse itself is rather disturbing. The five repeating verses are as follows:
Put her body on the bed.
Take a knife and lop her head.
Watch the blood come out the pipe.
Feeds the stirge, so nice and ripe.
Drops of red so sparkly bright.
Splatters spell her name just right.
With a hammer killed his wife.
Now he wants to claim your life.
Tricksy father tells a lie.
Listen close or you will die.

Ad'ifaah Najeeb |

Everyone, my vote is to have everyone assist for a day or two at the temple - this should give us a +4 to +8 depending on rolls. Then have Corey switch to the Unfurled Scroll assisted by Shol and Ven.
I will start to assist with the search at the Temple on day two once Abe says he needs more help.
Assist-Abe Day 2: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
Assist-Abe Day 3: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3
Assist Day 4: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10

Shol’a’saul |

Shol'a'saul feels a sliver of fear enter her heart on hearing the strange and chilling rhyme. She steels herself and approaches the children, "Excuse me, but I could not help but overhear your song. Could you tell me where you heard that rhyme before?"
Knowledge, assist day 4 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

Aeleanor Asaaru |

Aeleanor spends her time walking around the town, getting to know the people, mostly by listening. When Venedictos plays, she will dance to the music, hoping to attract a crowd and conversation, as well as trust.
Day 1 Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Day 1 Perform, Dance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Day 2 Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Day 2 Perform, Dance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Day 3 Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Day 3 Perform, Dance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

Shol’a’saul |

I am...not very good around people, but I must try...
Shol'a'Saul puts a smile on her face and adds to her question, "It's ok, I do not wish to harm you, I am a friend of Kendra Lorrimar, you may trust me."
Diplomacy 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
A bard, she is not...he he.

![]() |

The girls do not run in fear, but neither do they open up.
You may try again :)
Aeleanor, on the first day you see Shol'a'saul's encounter with the children. While you were not close enough to hear the song, it is obvious to you that shol has some interest in them.
Also, I just noticed that Corey said he was going with Shol. So Corey, you heard and saw everything I said to Shol also. You can aid or try yourself.

Ricven Hartwar |

The fighter awakens early so he can find the place where the old-timers gather to tell stories, swap rumors and dredge up the past. He'll start with eateries and general stores, and hopes they are discussing recent events so he can find out more information.
Once it reaches midday, he'll head over to the temple with food for everyone and assist with the information gathering by flipping through books, looking for interesting proper nouns.
Diplomacy so I'm not run off from the old-timers breakfast 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
Assist at the temple 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (6) + 0 = 6

Corey Magoon |

Corey stands next to Shol'a'saul and tries to aid her in her attempt to talk to the children. He too puts on a smile and tries his best to speak cheerily. "Indeed! We mean you no harm." As he says this, Paeter makes a brief appearance on Corey's shoulder to shake his whiskers in agreement.
Aid Diplomacy 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Knowledge, Local 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Knowledge, Local 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Knowledge, Local 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Not sure if I need the other ones, since 28 is the best Corey can do

Thats ok, Shol got it on her second try
One of the girls speaks up.
"It's a song we've sung forever here. We don't even know what it means really, just something to do with the haunted prison."
Aside from that, the girls don't have any further useful info, but they will perform the song again if you wish to copy it.
Special 1d5 ⇒ 4

I'm going to keep an ongoing calender update so we can all know when things are happening and what is current (since we have people split up and such).
Day 1- Funeral, will reading, false crypt visit (night).
Day2- Monument desecration, some research, visit sheriff.
Day3- Research, rope skipping song. (first day of the 3day knowledge rolls).

![]() |

Corey & co., you enter the Unfurled Scroll and see a well ordered and clean shop. The owner, Alendru Ghoroven, is behind a counter and looks up as you enter.
"Ah, you must be the ones staying at the Lorrimar place. A shame about Petros, he was a good man and an excellent scholar. What may I do for you?"

Shol’a’saul |

Yes, Shol will copy the song lyrics down for study later.
Shol'a'saul looks about her at the shop and nods to Alendru politely. "We had some questions for you about the Harrowstone prison. Do you have any written records about the prison and may we see them?"

Ricven Hartwar |

Ricven keeps an eye out for any of the people who tried to stop the funeral and accused the professor of being a necromancer. Everyone else so far has been polite and treated us well, so they could be part of whatever is going on here.
So, should I just post two more untrained assist rolls or keep searching for some regular townsfolk to find out rumors and legends about the prison? I'm not sure what I should do at the moment since I don't know if I was able to find any residents to talk with at breakfast.
If you do need more research assistance rolls, here they are.
1d20 ⇒ 13 and 1d20 ⇒ 7 The first roll (for day 3) was a 6.

![]() |

Assuming you pay the fee (?), Alendru shows you in. There are many scrolls and references here. The very first day bears fruit as Corey discovers this bit of information on one of the five notorius prisoners:
The Piper of Illmarsh (real name unknown):
Before he snatched his victims, the Piper taunted his targets with a mournful dirge on his f lute. He preferred to paralyze lone victims by dosing their meals with lich dust and then allowed his pet stirges to drink the victims dry of blood.

Update:
Day 1- Funeral, will reading, false crypt visit (night).
Day2- Monument desecration, some research, visit sheriff.
Day3- Research, rope skipping song. (first day of the 3day knowledge rolls). Corey discovers info on the Piper of Illmarsh.
actually, since I can't edit these after a certain time, I will put this in the campaign info section

![]() |

sorry for the delay, I was busier on my vacation than I thought I would be :)
After the end of your 3rd day in Ravengro, you compare notes during dinner. Shol'a'saul goes over the strange song she heard from the girls and Vergil tells everyone about the Piper of Illmarsh. Abernathus also informs you that he would like some help in the Temple tomorrow. making plans for the next day, you all go to sleep (if you are going to keep watches, let me know and come up with a watch list).
In the morning as you eat breakfast, you again see a commotion outside. With an ominous feeling you follow the people headed towards the monument again. When you arrive you find one of the deputies already scrubbing furiously at the monument. As before, the splatters of blood wash away easily, but now there is a letter "E" which does not come off.

Aerys Trajyon |

Aerys tries to strike up a conversation with the deputy scrubbing at the monument, hoping to hear if the sheriff has any theories regarding these occurances.
Diplomacy check
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Gah! These high-charisma characters really pay off!
"Has the sheriff considered keeping a watch on the monument at night?"
is there much cover or concealment near the monument?
