Corey was found as an infant laying face down on a dirt path in the woods by a young human couple living in the countryside directly outside of the cosmopolitan city of Caliphas. Having no children of their own, the couple raised Corey the best they could given their ability to barely make ends meet themselves. Corey's new parents were often given looks of disapproval while raising the Elven child, a subtle reminder that the relationship between the two races had not quite been mended since the Elves first returned from Kyonin.
As Corey grew older it quickly became apparent that he was a very weak child physically but quite intelligent. With a swath of curly dark hair and almost perpetually sullen appearance, Corey was a somewhat bizarre child. Growing up in the tiny village that his parents lived in he found himself spending most of his time with two human children his age that looked quite similar to himself. Observed by an outsider, the the children would appear as if they were discussing topics of inane nature but to them it was always a conversation of high intellect and deep thought.
Though he had a very strong desire to help his adoptive parents he knew that he was not going to be able to do it by staying in the country with them. When Corey was old enough to make his way into the city on his own he would make the most of his time by winning money in wagers based on chess or other games of intellect. He often spent a great deal outside one of the universities in Caliphas challenging students there to games and often winning.
It was during one of these games that Corey saw Professor Lorrimor watching him. It was not long after Corey noticed the man that he also noticed a small rodent with white foam covering its mouth emerge from a small hole in a building behind the Professor. Springing into action when he saw the tiny creature beging to dart towards the professor's ankle with its mouth open, the elf made it in time to deliver a swift kick to the animal before it could bite Lorrimor. The professor was unendingly thankful for the boy when they both looked at the corpse of the animal, a weasel, and saw that it was indeed ill. Looking for the origin of the creature, Corey peered into the hole and found a single weasel cub tittering around. Scooping it up animal, the professor laid a hand on Corey's shoulder and, with a smile, said "My boy, I think this was fate."
Following that day the professor and Corey Magoon the adopted Elf became great friends. It was not long after they began to spend more time together that the professor noticed Corey's incredible intellect and set him up with an Elvish professor by the name of Maeglin Telrúnya. Though Corey and Lorrimor kept in touch, it was Maeglin that became the boy's mentor and taught him the arcane arts, as well his native tongue. Eventually, Corey became a student at the university and balanced a life of supporting himself, his adoptive parents, and his pet weasel Paeter. Immediately finding an interest in the school of conjuration, Corey spent many hours studying spellcraft in an effort to learn more about the role his ancestors played long ago when Ustalav first began to fall into despair.
As many years passed, Corey saw less and less of the professor. In that time, the Elf finished his studies at the Academy and graduated in the school of Conjuration. Finally becoming a wizard, Corey made the pact with Paeter for the weasel to become his familiar.
