Sovereign Court

Ricven, you notice nothing unusual except for the doors.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

I'd like to cast detect magic & look at these doors, attempting to ascertain if they're in good shape due to spells cast on them or if they're more recent than their surroundings.

Sovereign Court

The doors do not look like new construction and they do not radiate magic.

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Does anyone here have any knowledge about engineering to determine the age of these doors and whether they have been maintained or are just really good quality?

Max HP: 16 | Current Hp: 16 | AC 13, T 10, FF 13 | CMD 9 | F 3, R 2, W 6 | Init +1 | Perc +7

"I think it's safe to say that if it were just really good doors, one or two might look like this, but not all of them. We are probably not alone here, and I don't just mean the ghosts, and should begin to act accordingly."

Female Dark Elf Rogue 2

All of you! Shh! Aeleanor says, putting her finger to her lips.
Let me scout ahead, I'll whistle if I need help. Just follow behind as quietly as possible.

Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

She goes ahead, listening at the first door. If she hears nothing, she will crack it open.

Sovereign Court

Aeleanor listens carefully at the first door. All is silent so she carefully cracks it open to take a look. As she opens it, the air is suddenly filled with screams. All three doors bang open and hordes of ghostly figures that look horribly burned flood the room and rush out the front doors. As quickly as it starts all three doors slam shut.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'Saul nearly jumps out of her cloak (and the dress hidden underneath) when the apparitions fly by her. After they have vanished she moves over to the front door and attempts to open it.

I do not like this at all...

Gee I wonder if the door is stuck...All signs point to YES.

Sovereign Court

The front doors are broken and open to the outside. The inside doors however, are the ones that slammed shut and when you attempt to open them they seem stuck.

Anyone with knowledge religion may make a check

Male Halfling Paladin 2

Does Abe detect any evil as this happens?

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Assist Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

There has to be a way in, this is just a hoax to scare people away most likely. Just a parlor trick.

Sovereign Court

Venedictos, you recognize this as a common type of haunt. It will probably reset in a few minutes. You know it can be destroyed by channeling positive energy as it manifests or by sprinkling the doors with holy water.

Max HP: 16 | Current Hp: 16 | AC 13, T 10, FF 13 | CMD 9 | F 3, R 2, W 6 | Init +1 | Perc +7

"It's more than a parlour trick, I'm afraid, but rather a fairly common manner of haunt, such as the word common can apply to such things. If you are content to wait a short while, I can destroy it with Shelyn's beauteous energies, or by sprinkling the doors with holy water."

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven feels a cold chill go down the back of his neck as the ghostly figures run screaming from the building. It's just the gates before, another retread of the horrors of the fire so many years ago.

"Will the entire building be like this, do you think?"

Male Elf Wizard 2

Corey shudders at Ricven's question. "I certainly hope not. That was terrible. I'm not exactly one for ghosts, parlor tricks or not." Turning to Venedictos, Corey asks "Let's opt for holy water if that will work. You never know when we may need Sheyln's energies later."

Sovereign Court

btw, don't forget the haunt siphons you have. Although you may want to save those for worse haunts.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Righto man...btw there were four haunt siphon vials, correct?

Sovereign Court

Venedictos's prediction comes true as after one minute the doors become unstuck and at the opening of one the exact same events happen again.

Does anyone do anything? I will let anyone perform a single action as you were somewhat prepared for this.

Max HP: 16 | Current Hp: 16 | AC 13, T 10, FF 13 | CMD 9 | F 3, R 2, W 6 | Init +1 | Perc +7

Venedictos will grab one of the holy water flasks and sprinkle some on each door (unless it's going to take one vial per door, in which case he'll channel energy).

Sovereign Court

As Venedictos sprinkles the holy water on the doors you all perceive a lightening of the area as if some unnoticed gloom had suddenly lifted. Afterwards, the doors open normally.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven braces himself as the doors seem to reset, but then releases some of the tension in his neck as Venedictos seems to offer a blessing that calms the spirits.

"Gorum guide these wretched souls away who spent their last moments fighting for life. Aid us to do better."

Then the fighter steps forward and opens the doors wide, peering into the next room.

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28

Male Halfling Paladin 2

"As I feared, this is an evil haunted place. Shelyn is always with us"

Abe readies his sword.

Sovereign Court

When you open the door to the right, you see a large room with several rows of wooden benches, all spotted with mold and sagging with neglect, that face a stage walled off from the rest of the room by a wall of iron bars.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul looks around her, noting the sagging benches and the level of neglect. "I wonder what this area was used for..." even as she scans the area for threats.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

"Perhaps this is where new... residents were held while cells were being readied for them?" Aerys ponders as he looks through the bars.

Perception1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Sovereign Court

The room looks like an auditorium. The stage area (on the south side) is seperated from the pews by the bars. If you enter by the small door on the south part of the wall, you end up on the stage, but the large door leads into the main room. As you pass the area in front of the stage in the main part of the room, you feel an area of bitter cold. By experimentation you determine that the 10' area right in front of the bars is much colder than the rest of the room. There is no apparent draft or wind and the area is stable and doesn't move at all.
Aerys is not far from the mark. This area was where inmates received their date of execution or other sentences.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven stands in the cold spot and looks at the whole room, seeing if anything appears different from this spot.

"Is there anyone else here?" he asks the air around him.

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul fingers one of her haunt siphon flasks as she watches Ricven intently, waiting to see if there is a spirit manifestation forthcoming.

Sovereign Court

Aside from the imobile cold spot, nothing else happens.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven quickly goes over the rest of the room and suggests the chech the next section.

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

"I wonder if the area of unnatural cold marks the spot where some prisoner attempted to attack the stage after learning of his sentence and was killed by the guards? Or perhaps during the riot the prisoners thought this might be a weaker spot, and perished in the fire?" Aerys muses aloud. "I would imagine prisoners entered from the double doors to the west - should we continue there?"

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

"sounds good to me."

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

Shol'a'saul nods, "That would be a wise assumption. We should try to find the Warden's office however, there may be some clues as to what really happened here."

Male Human Sorcerer 2 Arcane Bloodline

"If that is where we'd like to start, perhaps the smaller door leading from the stage area goes to areas walled off from the prisoners.

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Do I have any idea what might have caused the cold area?

Knowledge(arcana): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19

Sovereign Court

Ad'ifaah, the cold area is also probably another common, but usually harmless, kind of haunt. It is usually associated with areas of fear of impending death.

Sovereign Court

The small door on the other east side of the stage is made all of metal and is locked.

Male Half-ElF Fighter 2

Ricven grasps the door's handle and gives it a shake.

"Anyone good with locks? Or should I just give it a few solid hits?"

Any chance the hinges are on this side so we can remove the door?

Female Human Fighter/1, Oracle(Lore)/1

Our friendly Drow Thief has the lock picks, will have to wait for her - or post for her if we do not want to wait.

Female Dark Elf Rogue 2

Hmm, I'll see what I can do. Aeleanor says, biting her lip and setting to work on the lock.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
Disable Device: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30

Sovereign Court

After a few attempts, Aeleanor opens the lock (DC30).

for some reason, my home computer will not let me work on GoogleDocs. I will post the updated map tomorrow at work or tonight when my roommate gets home and fixes problem for me.

The door opens into a 10'x10' entryway that opens into a 20'x30' room. A bizarre collection of antique goods rests upon wooden shelves that line the room. Several of the items contain tiny tags with labels written in a careful script.

Venedictos has a careful look through the goods, reading labels.

Male Elf Wizard 2

Likewise, Corey takes a look around at the goods to see if there is anything of interest that may benefit the party.

Perception 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

"Well, there is absolutely nothing of use here, let's keep moving."

Female Elf (Forlorn) Witch 1; 6/6 hp; AC: 12, (Touch 12, FF 10); F +1, R +2, W +3, Perc +3/+5 Init +2

"Not so fast, Corey. There may be further clues in here." Shol'a'saul joins the priest in examining the goods as well.

Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Sovereign Court

Although much of the remaining property is junk, a few items remain that may be of interest, including a set of masterwork thieves’ tools, a bronze war medallion from the Shining Crusade (worth 40 gp), an unframed Taldan painting of Stavian I (worth 100 gp), a set of a noblewoman’s silver hair clips (worth 35 gp), a masterwork punching dagger, a pouch containing a dozen masterwork shurikens, a masterwork silver war razor, and a wand of lesser restoration (12 charges).

I don't bother with identifying simple magic items as you can just keep rolling. More unique things I will have you roll for.

everyone else make a perception roll too.

Shol'a'saul's eyes are cauf=ght by the pretty hair clips, and she slides them into her own long silvery hair, pinning it back in a simple yet elegant style.

She claims the hair clips, but is not interested in any other items...including the wand.

Male Halfling Paladin 2

"They look stunning on you, dear."

Abe is not interested in any of the items either.

Shol'a'saul is surprised by the halfling's compliment, and she blushes in response. "Why...thank you Abernathus, you are too kind!"
