You have all been invited for this year's Grand Convocation, which not only managed to catch your attention, but awaken a sense of excitement within you. It is known that much happens at this highly anticipated moment of the Society's social life. As Pathfinders from all over Golarion travel to the Grand Lodge in Absalom to gather and commemorate recent discoveries and noteworthy achievements alike, some also come to celebrate with old friends they haven't seen for a long time, some come to honor fellow fallen pathfinders whose names are written on the Wall of Names.

The whole Grand Lodge is abuzz with bright colors, exotic perfumes and odd accents, reflecting how popular the Society has become over the past few years, recruiting members from all horizons, from all races. Many Venture-Captains have also come, leaving their musty offices for the loud life of the lodge's courtyard. You also catch glimpse of some friends you have come to meet over the years, sharing a drink and catching up with them. Stories, after all, are made to be shared!

This isn't the official beginning, which will happen in 4 hours or so. It's an occasion to set the stage and encourage everyone to roleplay their introduction if you're online :)

Rumble walked around taking in the sights and sounds of the celebration. He was new to the Society and had never experienced anything like this before. The large oread has a broad smile on his face as he nodded at some of the members he had read and heard so much about.

They am great Pathfinders. Rumble be great Pathfinder one day, too!

Saleem mingles among the people, feeling at ease. The lean ifit eyes his fellow pathfinders, hearing and sharing exploits. Although largely inexpereienced compared to his peers, nevertheless he listens to glean more wisdom earned by their deeds.

As you're walking around the garden, chatting or just admiring the great number of pathfinders that came, Master of Swords Marcos Farabellus strides up to the large crowd and claps his hands together for attention.
"Welcome Pathfinders, one and all! And welcome to our traveling venture-captains stationed abroad as well our honored guests! I am Marcos Farabellus, and on behalf of the Decemvirate, I welcome you to the Pathfinder Society’s annual Grand Convocation! I shall address all of the attendees later this afternoon to announce some of the Society’s greatest accomplishments over the past year and our plans for the future. In the meantime, I invite you to stroll about the campus, meet with your peers, and enjoy all the sites of the Grand Lodge. We have set up numerous challenges and contests so that you can show off your skills or sharpen them if need be. I’ll send around ushers when it’s time to assemble for the speeches on the north lawn. Enjoy!"

I let you time to introduce yourselves as you're gathered into small groups.

A middle-aged half-elf woman approaches your group, carrying some papers in her hands. When she sees you, she smiles lightly. She has a natural grace and looks attractive, she seems to display manners that show a noble legacy. She's dressed with an adventurer's outfit and when you hear her voice, you sense she trained for years in the art of opera and singing.

"Ah there you are! Nice to meet you, new recruits. My name is Noravia Starnon, of House Starnon. I am from the newly reformed Wiscrani pathfinder lodge." Seeing that you don't know anything about what she's talking, she laughs lightly and puts back a lock of black hair.
"But I see we have a very diversified group here! Please tell me more about who you are and, if you did have one, your last adventure. Oh and yes, I'll be your overseer for this moment of... pleasure and rejoicing that is the Grand Convocation."

Rumble looked strangely at Starnon. "Rumble not new recruit. Rumble help save Janira from big Minotaur! Rumble becoming great Pathfinder. Recruit, ha," the oread grumbles, his voice like two boulders colliding as he speaks.

"Rumble show his great strength and power," he groans as he lifts a heavy hammer, trying to see how hard he could bash the platform at the nearby strength skill event. He swings with all his might.

"What's that? Oh, sorry miss. Jones is the name, and I suppose adventure is now my game."

Qillion Jones is a gruff-looking, square-jawed brute. He is wearing a bandana to cover his short cropped, messy, sandy-colored hair, and is usually wearing an eyepatch (although it occasionally switches eyes). A spiked wooden shield strapped on his back, an a leather whip at his belt, he looks like someone you would expect to be enforcing rules aboard a pirate ship.

"Why, my last job was to rescue some egghead from the gents over in Riddleport. Fine city, Riddleport - reminds me of me younger days! But, er... this is nice too, eh? Little easier to resist the pull of the ol' ways here, I think. Yep, just better to be on the straight and narrow."

Noravia giggles at the mildly impressive display of power from the oread. She nods in acknowledgement at each one of you.
When Kon Kon arrives, she nods disapprovingly, however. "Young Lady, you might want to stop this behavior. We are all pathfinders indeed, so we shouldn't... visit the personal belongings of other pathfinders."
Turning her head towards Jones, she says, blinking, "Oh, you don't know the big city of Westcrown? It is the former capital of Cheliax."

Westcrown is it? I've never been, but it sounds like the kind of place I'd like! Hello, everyone! The name's Nerfwin--I haven't been...officially confirmed as a Pathfinder, but I was told there might be field commissions for individuals displaying meritorious behavior. Sorry everyone, Every time I have tried to log in today it would either throw me back out with an error message as soon as I posted, or it would just plain not load. I hate the spinney wheel of eternal purgatory!!!

A wild looking elf is walking through the market place, meandering about and absently looking at wares. She is distracted.. and very much not at ease either in crowds or cities. Capering about around her feet is a small velociraptor, that every now and then she addresses.. more often than not, chiding the rambunctious beast about getting into something or other.
"Giggles! Get out of that and come here!" or "Quit chewing on that! I swear, you are worse than a puppy!" can often be heard in their vicinity.

As the Master of Swords gains everyone's attention and makes his announcement, she feels an unusual feeling in her breast.. giddiness. She is a young(ish) Pathfinder, and has never been to a Convocation before. The duo have a couple of missions under their belts, but they were mainly with the same group of adventurers throughout her career so far, and she is missing their company.. Giggles especially is missing her games of fetch with a certain Wayang's errant clubs.

Starting at the sudden appearance of the woman at her elbow, Jazmine quickly resists the urge to strike out. Easy.. it's not like we are back home.. these are friends.. she thinks.

As the others introduce themselves and participate in their activities, Jazmine tries her hand at the archery buttes.

Bow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Her mediocre shot does not progress her in the challenge, so Jazmine and Giggles stand in the background of the group. Finally, their time comes, and she speaks up.
"I am Jazmine, and this here is Giggles. We have just returned from an extended mission to the lands of the Linhorn Kings in the far north. Shades of Ice 1-3 Before that, we also traveled with Janira for a time. We are sure glad to get back to the warmth of normal temperatures though.. all that ice does not sit well with reptiles, and dinopops are just not my style!"

Dark Archive

Noravia nods respectfully at the two last person to speak. She motions towards the yard of the Grand Lodge, where hundreds of Pathfinders now roam and chat. "Have you heard? There are many challenges that you can take part in - a grand occasion to make a name for yourself, or just to compare your skill to that of your fellow Pathfinders, don't you think?"

The half-elf turns to face Jazmine and Giggles and gives them a wink.
"There's an animal training contest over there near the menagerie. I'm sure some of you know how to calm down a fierce beast!"
Then she looks at Saleem with a grin. "Or you could try the storytelling contest near the statue of Durvin Gest. Well, they call it storytelling but it's more of a boasting contest if you ask me."
"Alternatively, there's the more serious lore symposium that's happening at the Quadrangle, if you need something more challenging to the mind. There's also the obstacle course for the younger and more nimble among you. Or a sleuthing contest if you're good at finding clues quickly. Or maybe you're like me, interested in all manners of deadly traps? There's a trap mastery contest at the Mausoleum. Finally, there's a weight lifting contest if you think you can beat Master Farabellus! The choice is yours, really!"

Before the start of the Grand Convocation proper and the speech of the various Venture-Captains, you have ample time to compete in the various challenge. Pick one, then open the spoiler to see what skill or ability check you can do, and roll one of them. Feel free to describe your performance! Let's go with the first round of challenges, one each.

For the love of god, the dicebot hates me lately... Can we get some new dice??

Jazmine and Giggles head over to the animal training yard, where Giggles is a perfect example of why most people avoid trying to train velociraptors. She refuses to run the obstacle course after shredding several of the props with her razor sharp talons, tries to chew on the judge that comes by to rate her bearing and care, and then finally decided to relieve herself in the middle of the show ring earning them an immediate disqualification. Stunned and disheartened, Jazmine trudges back to the contestants waiting area, where suddenly, Giggles is bouncing off of the walls and trying to play fetch and tug of war with anything that moves.. just being as cuddly and friendly as she can!

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Kon. I think the "rogue" checks are the trap, the bluff and the dex.
@Everyone: I'd say your display of skill earlier is roleplay :)

You go around the field and try the different contests. As most of you succeed in these, Jazmine is the only one that fails his.

Rumble, round 1:

Pathfinders compete by seeing who can lift the heaviest weights. Gnomes, halflings, and other Small participants may opt for a handicap, and experienced agents are expected to be mightier than the newer recruits. Your display of power is greatly appreciated and several experienced agents come towards you to tap you heartily in your rocky back.

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Strength-based skill check, attack roll, or combat maneuver check attempted during the adventure. In addition, you hear several rumors that you are free to share with your companions.

1d8 ⇒ 4

Future Agendas: You learn that a large number of venture-captains posted abroad have made a concerted effort to attend the Grand Convocation this year. There is speculation that there are interesting plans for the year ahead and that they’re jockeying for consideration from the Decemvirate.

Nerfwin, round 1:

This forum is conducted in an outdoor lecture area in the Quadrangle. Agents do not literally compete in this event, but a meaningful contribution to the panel discussion garners attention and accolades from fellow scholars. Several elder and experienced pathfinders come to greet you and congratulate on your display of knowledge! You also hear Noravia cheering loudly at the end of your performance and she even crosses the crowd to shake your hand heartily. "A wonderful display! I am sure you had a very good master!"

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Linguistics or Knowledge check attempted during the adventure. In addition, you hear several rumors that you are free to share with your companions.

2d8 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

Future Agendas: You learn that a large number of venture-captains posted abroad have made a concerted effort to attend the Grand Convocation this year. There is speculation that there are interesting plans for the year ahead and that they’re jockeying for consideration from the Decemvirate.

City Politics: You learn that a Foreign Quarter councilman, Lord Omrys of House Ahnkamen, has registered some concern about the Grand Convocation with Absalom’s Grand Council. Lord Omrys feels that the Pathfinder Society is a “weirdness magnet” that brings more trouble to the city than good. He fears that a “Pathfinder Convention” is only going to exacerbate and concentrate the mischief that surrounds the Society, so he has requested that the district guard keep close tabs on the Grand Lodge for the next week. The Decemvirate has been in contact with Lord Omrys and assured him that all will be well.

Jazmine, Saleem and Jones, round 1:

Staged at the menagerie and training area on the grounds, a PC demonstrates her skill at handling and taming unusual creatures from all over the Inner Sea. The more experienced the field agent, the more exotic the beasts. At the end of the performance, Saleem and Jones are greeted loudly and several pathfinders come to ask what technique they used.

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Handle Animal, Intimidate, or wild empathy check attempted during the adventure. Alternatively, you gain a +2 bonus on one attack roll against an animal or magical beast. In addition, you hear several rumors that you are free to share with your companions.

Jones: 1d8 ⇒ 8

The Master of Scowls: You learn that Master of Spells, Aram Zey, was slated to deliver the keynote address but begged out of the privilege, citing his general dislike and disdain for the Grand Convocation as a colossal waste of time and expense. Marcos Farabellus, Master of Swords, volunteered to take his place.

Kon Kon, round 1:

An obstacle course designed to test agility is set up near the training grounds, where Pathfinders compete in a timed trial to be the quickest one through the course. A large chalkboard lists the best times and participants. Your performance is greatly appreciated by several pathfinders that come to greet you and praise your quickness. You also hear Noravia cheering loudly. She crosses the crowd to shake your hand heartily. "A wonderful performance! I am proud to see that the society counts recruits like you!"

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Dexterity-based skill check attempted during the adventure. In addition, you hear several rumors that you are free to share with your companions.

1d8 ⇒ 3

Strange Artifact: You learn that the principal discovery of the sky citadel of Jormurdun has been moved to a strange chamber with no corners along the exterior walls, floor, and ceiling. This is to help shield it from strange otherworldly entities. This year’s keynote address is allegedly about the artifact discovered in Jormurdun, the Sky Key.

Noravia, very interested in your skills, grins as she sees your competence in the various challenge your undertake. She has a sympathetic smile for Jazmine. "There's no harm in failing, it can happen. You can always try another challenge, my dear."

Everyone except Kon Kon has a second round. Please note that we have to keep a good pace, but we are not in a hurry. No need to rush and post several rounds. I'll take Kon Kon's second round with the others.

"Now the truth was I was tired and the troll couldn't tell that my companions were quietly casting the simple cantrip 'Light' upon my eyes while I took a nap. All went well until I let out a snore! This scared the troll to our amazement as it couldn't figure out how I could sleep with my eyes wide open! Needless to say, we didn't tell him the truth."

On your second round of prowess, the only one to fail this time is your oread friend.

Kon Kon and Saleem:

Near the temporary structures west of the front gates, a large “talking circle” has been marked out on the grounds. There is limited seating but plenty of comfortable spots on the lawn. Pathfinders compete to tell the best story. Complete accuracy is optional if the tale is funny or entertaining enough. Experienced Pathfinders are expected to have grander tales. Music or dance is just as welcome if incorporated in the narrative. After Kon Kon's performance some people of the crowd applause and you can see Noravia's applauding more than any other. Though, when Saleem ends his performance, Noravia comes through the thick crowd and greets the ifrit loudly while everyone is making him a stand up ovation!

Both of you gain a +2 competence bonus on one Bluff, Diplomacy, or Intimidate check attempted during the adventure. In addition, Saleem hears several rumors that he's free to share with your companions.

Menagerie Multiplication: The budget to maintain the menagerie has been temporarily expanded for theGrand Convocation. The Grand Lodge is capitalizing on the large number of visitors to present as many unusual specimens as possible.

Jones:

Pathfinders compete by seeing who can lift the heaviest weights. Gnomes, halflings, and other Small participants may opt for a handicap, and experienced agents are expected to be mightier than the newer recruits. Your display of power is greatly appreciated and several experienced agents come towards you to tap you heartily in your back. Some guy bearing the holy symbol of Cayden Cailean brings you a mug of beer to cheer with you.

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Strength-based skill check, attack roll, or combat maneuver check attempted during the adventure. In addition, you hear several rumors that you are free to share with your companions.

Mysterious House: Arliss Hall is full to the brim with visiting venture-captains from abroad. The building is rumored to mysteriously change its internal layout. The increased comings and goings have prompted it to do so with even greater regularity and many venture-captains have become lost themselves, wandering the hallways.

Nerfwin:

This event is hosted in a lecture hall in one of the eastern outbuildings, where several agents have set up a fake crime scene. An audience watches as a blindfolded Pathfinder is led into the middle of the scene. He then can remove his blindfold and has two minutes in which to examine the scene before replacing the blindfold. He then must describe from memory all of the clues and forensic evidence that he noticed to an audience and event organizer. Your performance is appreciated though you couldn't tell every evidence.

You gain a +2 competence bonus on one Heal, Perception,

Jazmine:

This forum is conducted in an outdoor lecture area in the Quadrangle. Agents do not literally compete in this event, but a meaningful contribution to the panel discussion garners attention and accolades from fellow scholars. Some of the elderly professors shake their head in acceptance hearing your display of nature knowledge.

Rumble:

An obstacle course designed to test agility is set up near the training grounds, where Pathfinders compete in a timed trial to be the quickest one through the course. A large chalkboard lists the best times and participants. Though the first part seemed easy to you, indeed, the mud pit wasn't expected and made you lose the run.

Noravia cheers loudly and claps her hands together happily. "Very well done, my little pathfinders!"
She looks over at the place where Marcos Farabellus spoke earlier, which seems empty at the moment.
"Well, it looks like we have a little more time to compete in the contests! I'm looking forward to watch your performances."
Looking at where the contests take place, she frowns.
"Hmm, some of the contests are overly crowded at the moment. Better to avoid the Weight lifting contest, the lore symposium, the Boasting contest and the menagerie as well."

Nice rolls, folks! The only contests open at the moment are the Obstacle Course, the Sleuthing contest and the Trap Mastery contest. Let's go with round 3.

Jazmine collects Giggles and heads over to check out the sleuthing contest. After passing a couple of trials during which she was to pick out the missing item or discover a hidden trick, she runs the final trial: a murder mystery game. She finds all of the clues with ease, and is able to correctly identify the culprit! It is the Watch Captain, in the hayloft, with the mace!

Qillion is beginning to enjoy the festival, grabbing a drink here, food from a cart there, and occasionally trying his hand at other skill tests.

At the Lore Symposium, he uses his knowledge of local customs and trivia to try and argue his points.

Then he drinks just enough to make him eager to try the Obstacle Course. Apparently, however, he had too much to drink, and was laughed off the course.

I was waiting for Kon Kon's last roll. But let's conclude the contest as Part II begins soon.

Jones: As before, I needed one round, not three. I'll take into account only the first in the Lore Symposium.

Saleem and Nerfwin:

An obstacle course designed to test agility is set up near the training grounds, where Pathfinders compete in a timed trial to be the quickest one through the course. A large chalkboard lists the best times and participants. Unfortunately, the pressure seems to be too high and both of you fail just before the finish line.

The Master of Scowls: Master of Spells, Aram Zey was slated to deliver the keynote address but begged out of the privilege, citing his general dislike and disdain for the Grand Convocation as a colossal waste of time and expense. Marcos Farabellus, Master of Swords, volunteered to take his place.

Rumble: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Next Generation: The Society’s success at Nerosyan and more recently at the sky citadel Jormurdun has captured the imaginations of a new crop of Pathfinders, who see the Society as a potential force for good as well as scholarship. The halls of the Quadrangle have not been so full in many years.

After you each finish your contests, Noravia gathers you and says that she's really proud of you. She points at the place where Marcos Farabellus spoke earlier, she says, clapping her hands together, visibly pretty excited. "Very well, let's wait for the speech of Master Farabellus, it looks like he's preparing himself to speak!"

Kon Kon completed two events, which is more than fine.

Kon Kon wanders, in her kitsune form. It is refreshing to be able to appear as herself, without the odd looks from Inner Sea folk who may be unfamiliar with her kind.

She still struggles with the Taldane language, but mentions to her companions the rumors she overheard. "City council person mad at za Society because of Concrave. He say Pathfinders ahways bring trouble."

"That is what I heard as well, Kon Kon. I can see his point though.. so many people in such a small place can make for many things that go ill.. I know it makes US uncomfortable.." Speaking of which they have had to assure this, Lord Omrys of House Ahnkamen, about holding this Convocation here. What's more is that there has being an increase in the budget of The Menagerie. Maybe that's what got the Nobles stirred up afterall having more beasts in here is dangerous."

Saleem tips his wide feathered hat in greeting as he joins the rest, making sure to keep himself free from the dust of today's activity with the use of a simple cantrip.

As you chat together, you all hear the following announcement:

"Pathfinders, please get settled. All campus-wide events are closing. All venture-captains and field agents are invited to gather on the north lawn for refreshments and the keynote address in several minutes."

You have a few minutes to chat about what you heard during the different contests.
