Alwen Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Ayaki Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Bangkha Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Chumtooth Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Dantes Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Satinder Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Devilfish Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Bangkha reacts immediately, pounding on the creature that holds him tight. Cat rakes and bites at the monster, her claws and teeth rending flesh and drawing blood. Alwen looses an arrow, which simply reflects off the creature's scaled hide.
Ghosting Ayaki and Dantes
Ayaki immediately begins a song to inspire courage and Dantes slaps the elf on the shoulder with a true strike spell. "Now you should be able to hit something, elf."
The devilfish draws Bangkha to it's mouthparts, attempting to bite the druid. It catches hold, clamping down on the half-orc hard, very nearly severing his leg from his body! (Bangkha suffers 8 points of damage.)
Chumtooth's spear finds its mark, plunging deeply into the creature's side, but the devilfish shows no signs of slowing down, despite the fact that it is bleeding from several wounds. Satinder tries to render aid, but is able to do little.
Devilfish vs. Bangkha: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage (bite): 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8
Chumtooth
Chumtooth wraps the line around his left arm and holds it taut.
Grapple: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 (free action, per rules for harpoon)
He moves closer to the beast, holding the line taut with his left hand, and drawing his kukri with the right hand.
He slashes at the beast with his wicked-looking knife.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Assuming this is sufficient to hit, due to grapple, then:
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Satinder Morne
Satinder once again tries to attack the creature, providing distraction for the others and hopefully a nice opportunity.
She tries to time it so that it gets attacked from two sides at the same time, and ducks and weaves until that time has arrived. The line from Chum makes it more difficult to attack unhindered, though it is also a help.
Atk: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 = 101d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 3 + (2) = 11
Grappled creature takes -4 to DEX..Hopefully that will help.
Dantes Goldforge
Dantes swims closer to Chumtooth and presses a hand to his shoulder, passing a bit of arcane transmutive power to his ally. He tries to say something encouraging, but it is lost in the sputtering; Dantes tries to clear water splashed into his mouth and throat due to his poor swimming ability.
Augment, +2 bonus to Strength for one round.

Refusing to give up on her master, Cat continues her assault.
Cat vs. Devilfish (bite): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 8 + 1 = 20
Cat vs. Devilfish (claw): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 = 11
Cat vs. Devilfish (claw): 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 1 = 17
Damage (bite): 1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
Damage (claw): 1d2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 1 = 3
Damage (claw): 1d2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4
As Bangkha's struggles cease, Alwen launches another arrow at the beast.
Ghosting Alwen.
Alwen vs. Devilfish: 1d20 + 20 - 4 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 20 - 4 - 1 + 1 = 32
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4
His arrows finds it's mark, but the devilfish continues it's attack against Bangkha.
Ghosting Ayaki
Ayaki continues her song, even as Dantes slaps Chumtooth with a bonus to Strength. The devilfish chomps down on Bangkha again, but the half-orc is beyond noticing.
Devilfish (bite): 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 2) + 4 = 12
Chumtooth slashes at the creature, managing to cut it deeply with his blade. The creature begins to sink beneath the surface, taking Bangkha with it, but the kuru is quicker. He slashes again (AoO).
Chumtooth vs. Devilfish (AoO): 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 17
Damage (kukri): 1d4 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 7
This last attack is sufficient to cause the creature to relax it's bite on Bangkha and the half-orc floats free as the creature sinks back into the depths, unmoving.
Bangkha is in bad shape, but still alive. His leg remains attached by a strip of flesh and he has savage bite marks across his torso.
Satinder Morne
"We need a healer!!" Satinder says, breathing rapidly. "Can anyone attach his leg again?"
Chumtooth
Chumtooth wrenches his harpoon from the monster's body, and thrusts it into Satinder's hand.
"Use the harpoon as a splint for the leg. Tie the shaft to Banglha's leg using the line. Chumtooth will hold Bangkha's head above water."
He looks to the rest of the group. "Look under the water. The beast may have killed someone with a medicine bag."
Alwen Gaelarean
"Or I could do this," Alwen says, taking a stoppered vial out and uncorking it. He pours it into the half-orc's throat, letting the healing magic in the potion work on him - though he's quite certain that his leg is a lost cause, at least he won't bleed out anymore.
"Unfortunately, that was my only potion. It'll keep him from dying, sure, but I doubt it'll give him his leg back." He gives Satinder a look. "We still need to find our missing crew. Bring him out of the cave with someone, and the rest of us will continue on. Remember we're on a time limit right now before we're stranded here. And we still need to deal with problems of loyalty on the ship."

Ayaki pulls a brass bracer free of the wall, then moves to another section of the wall and begins searching. After a few moments, she finds a secret panel holding a bone dagger and a a brass scroll tube that has been sealed with wax at both ends to make it watertight.

Well, Chum I am not 100% yet, but these things are radiating magic so I think that we need to have these identified.
I am going put the dagger in my belt and the bracer and tube in my belt pouch
Satinder Morne
"That dagger looks peculiar. Give it here Ayaki." Satinder says without any feeling in the sentence.
"How long will it take you to figure out what's in the tube?" she says, while weighing the dagger.
Ayaki Kitsune
|
I am not giving it to anyone or anything else right now, these could be cursed or could be helpful. but at this time, it stays with me till we can get it identified
Alwen Gaelarean
"That is true," Alwen comments, his easy smile on. It's more for show to keep people thinking positive, though losing a member of their party was a big blow. Hopefully the half-orc would survive. Perhaps once they rescued the crew they'd have some more healing available to offer to him.
"Let's get going, then - longer we tarry, the more likely we'll end up stranded here," The elf tells the others, before forging ahead, hoping that they didn't have to go much further to reach their crew.

The group presses forward, Chumtooth carrying Bangkha and keeping his head afloat. They carefully pass another lake of hooks, spotted by Alwen's keen senses, and into a dead-end chamber. Hundreds of remains float in this large bowl of water, which curns with bones, scraps of flesh, and the carcasses of strange, almost alien fish. Just visible through the roiling stew are humanoid bodies floating in the water, wan corpses drifting near the bottom of this cauldron like sleeping guardians. Visibility is five feet or less in the water.
Two figures hang from the ceiling above the churning water, bound hand and foot with thick strands of seaweed and sinew and weighted with heavy ingots of silver--Rosie Cuswell and Sandara Quinn! Sandara is awake and struggles against her bonds, but Rosie is pale and unmoving, covered in blood.
Chumtooth
Chumtooth draws his kukri with a free hand. He looks to the others.
"Take the knife and cut the females down! We must move quickly. More will come, and we are not strong enough to fight."
Dantes Goldforge
Dantes casts Enlarge Person on Alwen, hoping it will increase his reach enough to get them down safely.
"Let's get those ingots off their feet first. It wouldn't do any good to cut them down onto to have them sink right down to the bottom!"
With the rescue in the capable hands of the others, Dantes takes a moment to scan the area for objects of high value amongst the remains. [ooc}Detect Magic.[/ooc]
Satinder Morne
"Good thinking master dwarf!" Satinder simply states as she looks around, ready for an ambush.
"Alwen, you keep watch. Let us know the minute you even think about hearing anything. Don't want to get caught with our pants down." she says, while looking at him growing to double his size.
Chumtooth
"Chu...I will watch," Chumtooth responds. "Alwen, made big, is the only one who can cut the females down."
Still cradling Bangkha's head above water, he watches the cave entry, and looks down into the water for anything larger than a small fish.

Alwen allows himself a slight smile as he grows to massive size. With his extended reach, he can indeed cut the women free of their bonds, but before he can move to do so, the water beneath him begins to churn. From the swirling miasma rises a creature from nightmare; a giant grindylow, massive and bloated, and with it, a female of the species, trailing numerous tentacles. The larger of the pair roars a challenge to the intrusive adventurers.
The room is quite deep and anyone entering the room will need to make Swim checks (including Alwen).

Oh, and I assume this counts?
The rogue's attack deals extra damage anytime her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC
Peg Leg +1 trait bonus to damage vs animals with the Aquatic subtype.

Satinder sees the creatures popping up, and instinctively goes for her trusted daggers on her hip. She hesitates a second before deciding it's better to kill the small one first.
When she throws, her dagger slices the air and penetrates the skin of the little grindylow near the place the hipbone would be on a normal person.
"Ambush!!" she shouts even as she prepares herself for when the creatures come closer.
Dantes Goldforge
Dantes groans at the new arrivals, and then double downs. He invests a bit more arcane might into Alwen, hoping it will tip the balance of the inevitable fight.
Enhance class feature on Alwen, giving him a +2 strength enhancement for one round.
Alwen Gaelarean
Alwen is more than surprised when his body suddenly enlarges and he's taller than everyone. "Okay, so this is both new and very disorientating!" He states, before pulling out a handaxe to see about cutting the hostages down, starting with Sandara first. "Hold still, I'll have you down in a jiffy," He tells her.
Taht was right before things suddenly took a turn for the worse, the biggest grindylow he'd ever seen popping out the water along with a rather ugly female one. He took a moment for a threat assessment, before shouting to the group.
"Go for the ugly one! The really, really ugly one!" He shouted, moving to engage the larger grindylow himself.

First things first. While preparing the new move, I noticed that I've made a terrible error. I am a bad GM and I apologize profusely.
You folks should be 3rd level, so everyone can level up their characters and make any alterations that are required BEFORE this fight. Banghka, that means that you are, in fact, wide awake and still active, and that the potion of water breathing need not be used.
To that end, everyone go ahead and level up before we continue this fight. We'll keep the same initiatives, but you can come into the fight with your new hit points and abilities.
Again, I apologize. Your level up got overlooked and I'm sorry.
That said, Bangkha and Chummy have actions they can now take.

The Queen finishes her casting, bringing into existence an octopus that immediately joins the melee, biting at Chumtooth. The creature's beak sinks into the kuru's flesh, doing minimal damage, but the wound burns like hot coals. Chumtooth takes 2 points of damage and must make a Fortitude save.
Her attention freed, the Queen lashes out with a small knife, cutting a rope and sending Rosie and Sandara into the water. The pair sinks out of sight, bubbles marking their passage.
