Chumtooth swims forward, harpoon in hand, and impales grindylow #5. The creature wriggles on his harpoon once, and then is still, bleeding profusely.

Satinder swims into the room, piercing the spleen of #1 with her rapier. The blades slips in easily, leaving the creature dying.

Dantes hesitates in his action, letting Alwen go first. Alwen banes #2 and fires an arrow at it, striking it in the shoulder. Dantes throws a glob of acid at the same one, but it finds no target.

Bangkha downs another, even as Cat finishes the one that Alwen wounded.

Grindylow #6 attacks Chumtooth with spear and fang. It's spear finds purchase, but it's bite is stopped by the thickened leathers the kuru wears. Chumtooth takes 5 points of damage.

Grindylow #7 attempts to hit Cat, managing to get a spear hit in on the animal. Cat takes 7 points of damage.

Grindylow #3 strikes at Bangkha, but does not manage to connect.

Seeing as the others are completely blocking his shots, Alwen simply shouts words of encouragement from the back. "Try going for the eyes on that one!" He shouts, pointing to the grindylow in the middle with an arrow.

Freebooter's Bane on Grindylow 7 - he'll wait to see how the rest of the round pans out before leaping into the melee.

Satinder, seeing the situation escalate in their favour quickly, decides to move around the grindylow and assault them in their backs, getting their energy and their attention divided on two fronts.

"How about its back?" she shouts at Alwen, when she tries to stab the one Alwen indicated as an easier target. She misses, and curses.

Dantes move up closer to Alwen. He charges his hand with arcane transmutive power before clamping the elf on a shoulder. The temporary arcane boost passes on to his ally. Dantes hopes the increased agility helps his friend evade the spear tips. Alwen, +2 enhancement bonus to Dexterity for one round.

Chumtooth sinks his harpoon into the nearest grindylow, impaling the hapless creature, then lifting it to his mouth and taking a huge chunk out of its side. The creature wriggles once, then is still.

Satinder misses her target, even as Alwen provides helpful advice. Dantes steps up and puts an enchantment on the already agile elf.

Cat lashes out at her foe in pain and anger, teeth and claws shredding flesh. The creature sinks to the bottom, bleeding.

Bangkha lashes out at his target, but misses.

DESCRIPTION

During your bardic performance, you can strike a chord whose notes transform into a shower of razor sharp, crystalline shards. The shards deal 2d6 points of piercing damage to all creatures caught in the area of effect.

The final grindylow turns to retreat, only to be cut down by Bangkha. The water is thick with blood and gibbets of flesh, along with the fallen bodies.

"Well, that went rather well," Alwen speaks up from the back with their dwarven wizard. "We should move swiftly now - I haven't the faintest about the senses of these grindylows, but I know chumming the waters can bring all sorts of marine predators I'd rather not fight unless I have to do so."

A quick search of the bodies reveals not much of interest, save for Sandara's tricorne hat and ivory pipe. Both are intact, but soaked. Following the easternmost passage soon leads you to a small cavern, the walls of which are covered with strangely ribbed markings. The floor in this cavern is about four feet below the surface of the water.

Alwen:
Hidden beneath a thick carpet of seaweed, you note that the floor of this small cavern is made of bars, spaced about 18 inches apart.

The elf holds up his hand to everyone to stop, before pointing at the waters. "The floor's not going to hold us up much here. It's nothing but bars. We'd be lucky not to twist our ankles stepping into that mess. Best for us to paddle across - well, those of us who aren't hammers," He adds, before doing a breaststroke across the surface of the water.

At four feet deep, Dantes will be treading water anyway. But when Alwen mentions the bars below, the dwarf stops. He'll take a deep breath and plunge under water. He'll use his darkvision to look down between the bars and see what is down there.

Dantes:
Peering into the darkness, you spot two furtive figures lying in wait. The bars are wide enough that the figures could reach through them. The creatures look human, but their flesh is gaunt, their teeth large and pointed, and gills are evident on their necks.

GM, do they look undead or aquatic? Can Dantes tell what they are?

The lacedons are easily dispatched and the bars removed with some effort from Chumtooth. One still wears the remains of a battered greatcoat with five large silver buttons. In addition, there is 120 gp in assorted coinage among the decaying crab shells, dead fish, and seaweed at the bottom of the chamber.

Perception (DC 25):
One of the buttons houses a secret compartment in which is an oversize coin made of bronze and bearing the imprint of a ship's anchor.

The group moves forward, making its way past another of the hook traps with Alwen's assistance. The tunnel opens into a wider cavern decorated with hundreds of leering skeletal parts, wriggling with worms. Four dark circular openings exit the chamber.

Now this was a bit of a choice for the group. The elf strokes his chin, considering their options, before taking a moment to check the currents of the water. No doubt they wanted the deeper parts of the caves, where water flowed towards most rapidly.

"First, lets skirt around the edge here. I don't know about the rest of you, but considering the traps we've already seen swimming across the open may be a death sentence. Second, anyone have anything that will float on the surface?" He asks. "A piece of cork from a bottle, perhaps?"

Alwen inflates the skin and sets it in the water. Almost immediately, the skin begins to drift towards the northwest.

"That way then. Don't worry, Chummy, we'll get it back for you," Alwen promises as he follows the current.

Following the current and staying to the edges of the room, the group finds yet another lake of hooks across the passage. As Alwen swims over the trap, Bangkha feels something wrap about his waist, something that causes blinding pain! A tentacle of something beneath the surface, something big and with sharp hooks has grabbed hold of him.

The water chruns as something surfaces.
