"Nigel... step back carefully away from the sewer beast.." calls out Khellek.
Assuming he has identified it as a crocodile from GM post above

"Lini, this appears to be a Crocodylus Cloaca. Can't you charm it to stop it attacking? We must get Nigel to safety."

Travail wracks his brain for anything he remembers about giant crocodiles, but in the heat of the battle, he can't think of anything.

With the big cat battling the croc in the doorway, and his chances of getting behind it slim, Travail feels like his best bet is to keep firing at the crocodile.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

It seems when I went to cut and paste from my prior post, I erased what had been, which is why Travail seems to make a random Knowledge check. He was reacting to this

Knowledge (local)(DC 12+):
As the transformation of the ape-like man back to a human is complete, you can clearly recognize that the rotund, squinting human male before you is not the gaunt, curator half-elf Nigel.

The rogue's first shot strikes deep into the croc, but the second misses completely.

The terrified now human, cautiously steps away from the sewer monster, but backs himself into a corner. (5 foot step)

The sewer monster now strikes at the cat that has been the source of much of its blood-loss. Again poking its pointed nose through the doorway, it attempts to grab ahold of the feline with its jaws!

Melee (bite) against cat with cover: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Damage (P) plus grab: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Grab (vs CMD): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

With a mighty snap of its toothy mouth, it grabs ahold of the druid's companion and pulls it through the door and into the room!

Grapple to Move (vs CMD): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34

Then, with the cat still in its maw, the crocodile pulls it back further in its room towards the cesspool out of which it had earlier crawled.

Combat Over

The former ape-man cowers in fear, then as he looks around the room, squinting, he spots a head, that of a half-orc, sitting on the floor nearby. The man breaks into a seemingly uncontrollable sob.

Searching the room with Perception (DC 12+):
You find some more half-orc remains strewn about, including a portion of a torso stuffed down through a lavatory hole into the cesspool below. A belt still hangs from the torso and on it, a ring of keys.

Maldroog seems to find little solace in Khellek's words or those of the other Pathfinders. Nevertheless, he does his best to respond to their questions, "I saw Nigel carried out from the storage room adjacent to the East Hall, where our "Hunting the Beasts of Legend" exhibit is being featured, and into the hallway, which leads to the main entrance, the western hall, where the "Honored Dead" exhibit and offices lie, and then to the North Hall, where our grandest and finest exhibits are often held. It is kept quite pristine and holds many works of fine art, including masterpieces in the forms of paintings, sculpture, and pottery. In all my time as a watchman, they have never come to harm."

The man seems quite proud as he recites the contents of the North Hall, but then slumps for a moment, "But, the truth is, I am no warrior. Indeed, the sight of blood makes me rather quite queasy." He continues to squint, "Further, without my spectacles, I am afraid I cannot see much at all."

When the Pathfinders urge pressing on, Maldroog begins to take his leave. "Thank you for saving me. And I do hope you find Nigel in one...well, piece." he says, before turning to exit into the mists.

A long hallway leads to a grand hall, wherein the Blakros Museum shows off its finest collections. On approach you can hear a cacophony of sounds, which resemble those of savage primates, snarling, spitting, and cavorting madly. By the variety and volume of sounds, you'd estimate nearly two dozen in number.

Peering within the room, you see mock vines clinging to the walls and hanging from the fifty-foot-high domed ceiling. Huts of grass are strewn about the open area. At the center of this sprawling chamber, a miniature replica of a traditional Mwangi ziggurat rises out of the mist to a height of nearly twenty feet. At the top of the ziggurat, a rail-thin elven gentleman is strapped to an altar, his bare chest painted with strange sigils and monkey paw-shaped blots of paint.

Please post any preparations you make before entering the room. Once all have posted, I will post the next event, and we will go into Initiative.

You all dispatched the croc quickly, the keys were found with a single check, there was relatively little exchange with Maldroog, and the posts noted urgency in action, so I assume that shield of faith was cast no more than three minutes ago, meaning you have 10 rounds remaining/

As you enter the room, the apparent revelry of this court of savage apes, baboons, and other monkeys is shattered by a terrifying howl. Dozens of primates suddenly scatter, knocking down the loosely build shacks, and leaving dried grass and debris in their wake. As the simian creatures scramble up vines and walls alike, their howls and screams intensify until they begin to sound almost rhythmic fashion.

Perception (DC 14+)(Lini and Khellek each have a +3 circumstance bonus to this check):
You recognize the rhythmic chant as the repetition of a single name. “Da’Tunga”.

Seemingly in response to the primate’s savage sounds, a massive primate—easily over twelve feet tall—lumbers into view from behind the ziggurat; the primates’ apparent champion.

Atop the ziggurat, the elf, painted in odd symbols, appears to be almost lifeless.

Attack, mwk short bow, point blank range: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 = 27
Damage, cold iron, point blank range, sneak attack: 1d6 + 1 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 + (6, 1) = 15

@GM: Not subtracting 4 from my ranged attack roll since my initiative order was before Kyra, even though she posted first. You can subtract it if you feel that's more fair.

"That chant sounds a lot like Da Tonga. Does that mean anything to you, Khellek?"

@GM: Not sure what that image is to the lower right of Travail. I assume it's a hut and not a creature. If it is a creature, Travail will move to a position where he doesn't suffer an AoO

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

Khellek and Lini:
Drawing from your respective sources of knowledge, you are each able to surmise that the name “Da’Tunga” must be a proper name or title, denoting the are ape as some sort of champion. Clearly, the assembled primates are paying a manner of homage to the large ape . But, perhaps much more alarming, is the fact that these assorted apes area all acting in concert in a rather coordinated and purposeful manner.

Travail:
You spot a number of very small things, which you believe to be objects at first, but which you appear to be scurrying among the primates, seemingly trying to hide their presence midst the yowling of the simian beasts. Locations are noted on the map with the red, green, and yellow dots.

Lini:
Not gonna waste that Perception roll! Your extremely keen eyes can see that the elf, painted and bound on the ziggurat, bears a more pronounced brow than most of his kind and has short, light hair covering large portions of his body, which is also quite atypical for his kind. He also appears to be conscious.

Destiny of Sands | Q16 | Lost Maid of Anactoria | Year of Era's End

Travail sinks an arrow deep into the chest of the large ape.

Kyra's blade slashes against the beast's thick hide, but fails to get through.

The large ape beats its chest, then steps forward. (5 ft. step) With its two huge appendages, it reaches down and attempts to grab the cleric!

@ Travail - The pictures on the perimeter of the room (some of which comics fans may recognize) are there to depict the dozens of primates that hang from the walls and vines of the room. They will flinch away if you move toward them so they can be ignored for tactical purposes.

Large Ape, Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

EDITED to reflect failed save
The large ape roars in pain as it is struck by the sphere of flame and the big cat's teeth cannot penetrate the beasts thick, hide.

Lini's attention is caught by the strange object hiding among the apes to the east end of the room. She extends a finger at it, drawing everyone's attention to it with a "That... bony face! Over there! Its moving!"

Not clear to me what *kind* of object this really is based on the description.
