I so totally don't get all the references your talking about. I'm curious of the time frame of what we can get when.

Good idea Vojtek, but I'm also interested in getting back to the lodge before this Teb figures out his cohort has been sent to the afterlife. I'm also honored that you all thing I should use this oil thank you I will do so.

You can figure the wand to be ready by sundown tomorrow.

Davosh:

Davosh is aware that Zimar is northeast of Heldren along the Jalrune River. It is a bit less than a week's journey round trip.

Isker looks curiously at Vojtek for a long moment, then doubles over in a full belly laugh. Ha! That's a good'un! Ha ha! I may call Xan my baby girl, but she's a full-grown lass o' nineteen to be sure. Usually fightin' off the boys who get a little too close down at the Stoat. Y'know I used to worry about her in this town — she looks like her mama, my late Kaliandra, Pharasma rest her soul — but I shouldn'ta. She can take care o' herself.

Isker, cold iron might not be a bad investment if we are unsuccessful in stopping this winter.

Good news then we shall wait here, and get our wounds and fatigue healed. If anyone needs me, I will be helping the sick at the Willowbark apothecary if she will allow me to assist.

Vojtek and Kappi head out into the borderlands just outside of town daily for a little sword-play. They practice with the short sword, the long sword and Vojtek's Greatsword, alternating weapons and generally getting the feel of each.

Kappi appreciates the mentorship, and Vojtek appreciates the nimble and willing sparring partner.

While they are in the snowy woods, Vojtek and Kappi each take time to carefully scour the area for suspicious footprints. Any of the various creatures they have encountered would be immediately suspect, and any tracks belonging to tasty animals are cause for a concerted hunt.

Okay, eliminating Vrixx the caged sprite and rescuing Lady Argentea is good for an additional 800 xp (160 each). Y'all are on your own tracking from now on. :-P

After your excursion to the High Sentinel Lodge and your return, Councilwoman Teppen treats you to dinner at the Silver Stoat.

I am glad you were the heroes I thought you might be, she says before sipping a glass of ale. Makes me feel better about picking up your tab that night.

After gauging your reaction to this, she continues. Grateful as we all are about the return of Lady Argentea — and her vouching for Heldren's role in her rescue — she raises the glass again in silent toast before taking another sip, I implore you not to tarry too long in following up these leads. This name Teb Knotten is unknown to me, but if he or she is in alliance with the Winter Witches, as Yuln suggests, this indeed bodes ill for all of us.

Old Mother Theodora's commission can be picked up tomorrow on the way out of town, if you're so inclined.

Yet Kappi is of the Traveling Folk and has heard many strange tales. He has heard of stranged customs like teeth filing now that he thinks about it.

GM fiat: I think it's possible that Tesserea might have a few doses of weapon blanch available, if that's something in which you guys might have interest. We can presume you bought as many as three.

After a couple of days to rest and recuperate (not to mention get your hands on a spiffy wand), you head back toward the High Sentinel Lodge.

You arrive as the afternoon is waning. The Lodge is much as you left it, though the fire is out now and the windows are dark. A short time later you have rectified that, and the main room is cozy once more.

    Davosh:

The feeling of being watched returns upon your reentry into the Border Wood, though it fades quickly enough. It happens again as the Lodge comes into view — Liska even seems to notice something is amiss this time — and once more in the middle of the night. As before, however, you see nothing out of place.

The night past, you set out again at dawn. The bridge spans a narrow ravine, swaying back and forth under the icy winds whistling through the gorge. As the party approaches and Kappi begins to search for traps, a small blue humanoid creature with thin, leathery wings, small horns, and a wicked smile bursts from a bush nearby and breathes an icy cone of frost on all PCs for 1d4 ⇒ 3 points of damage! Cone is indicated by blue lines on the map. DC 13 Reflex save for half; those who fail are also sickened for 3 rounds.

The flying humanoid is currently ten feet up and out of melee range.

    Kn (planes) DC 18:

This is an ice mephit, a native of the Plane of Air.

    Kn (planes) DC 23:

They are immune to cold and vulnerable to fire. Ice mephits have fast healing 2 in cold areas and DR 5/magic.

Even though the blue creature ducks out of the way in time, it definitely seems to hurt her more than Ali would have thought it might.

Oh, the greatsword took excellent care of the prone mephit, even with its DR. It only had two left.

So this little blue extraplanar being will not cry wee whee wii all the way home to its superiors and clue them in to your activity.

Which, incidentally, is a Good Thing [tm] for you guys. :-)

    1d100 ⇒ 70
Plus, as an added bonus, Vojtek does not chop through the ice on top of the stream and have to be rescued from being trapped under ice.

A mephit is usually worth 800 xp, though this encounter gets an extra 200 due to the nasty ambush tactics. So 1000 total, or 200 each.

The mephit has no treasure save for a blue quartz nearly identical to the one found in the upstairs storeroom.

Kappi collects his thrown javelins. The lad is somewhat annoyed at his inability to make a good hit in the fight.
