Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
"I have no fire." Wynn shrugs, "Other than my fireball spell"
Luna Solerra |
"I'm afraid my area of elemental expertise leans more into ice than fire," Luna comments. "A small elemental creature may do though." Experimentally, Luna creates a small fire elemental in the basin.
It's all of two arcane reservoir points, so we'll see how this goes. I'll also eat a 6th level spell slot here.
Dora D Asplora |
No fire here outside of simple torches.
It is worth a shot, Luna. I just hope it is not another like the one that tried to drown Rurik.
Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
"I think it may take more heat than what that little guy has to offer" Wynn states nonchalantly pointing at the small elemental with his thumb.
"Anyone have more potent fire?" He says pulling out his spellbook and looking through his spells once more.
Rurik Delver |
"I unfortunately don't have any form of magical fire on me but perhaps some of the magma would work."
Valrar Altimari II |
"Wouldn't put that past an elemental lord. A load of sadists, and we should know," Valrar mutters darkly.
Alie Saechel |
”Well, I’m here in one piece, Dora. I’ll be okay, assuming we can get this mission completed. We need to find that Trueflame so we can shatter this orb. Thanks for asking!”
Rurik Delver |
"Alright, given that we don't have what takes to ignite this fire at the moment lets see what else is within this complex." Rurik takes the lead in continuing to explore the complex. He keeps himself alert for danger.
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29
Whomever wishes to may decide where we venture to within this place.
Dora D Asplora |
Dora, atop Goldwing will bring up the rear again, looking for anything helpful.
Well, I was actually expecting to be greeted by more of a welcoming committee. Not that we would have to search for them. This seems...well...odd
perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (12) + 16 = 28
Dora D Asplora |
I do not see anything else here. I saw some hallways to the north and west. I say we check the north ones first. Dora will guide Goldwing down the stairs and towards the north halls.
GM Tarondor |
Goldwing can barely fit into the five-foot wide corridors, but manages to squeeze in. The first room that Dora explores is empty, but the next has something very curious in it.
An elaborate cylindrical device fashioned from interlocking coppery gears, rods, and pistons runs from the floor to the ceiling in this chamber. Bands of illusory Ignan writing encircle the device in free-floating rings.
This particular device controls the valves and pipe widths to control how much trueflame can enter the system. Craft (clockwork), Knowledge (engineering), and Profession (engineer) are all ideal skills for repairing it.
Alie Saechel |
Know. Arcana 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
Sorry I’m at work. Only time for a quick post. Please read the spoilers.
”So something is wrong with the machine that controls the true flame. We have to fix it. Maybe that’s why the statue next door didn’t do anything,” Alie suggests.
Wynnreyell Moonsilver |
Wynn approaches the strange gears as Alie explains there purpose. He then cast a spell to help open his mind. Casting Investigative Mind
He begins to operate the gears attempting to get the true flame to the source.
Investigative mind let me roll twice and take better result. It will last for 50 minutes
knowledge engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
knowledge engineering: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Wynn soon becomes frustrated with the process.
Valrar Altimari II |
"Oh, good, you know what you're doing," Valrar notes. "So does the Ambassador, but the pompous windbag doesn't have the motor skills to prove it. Maybe you could be its hands?"
The mass of crystals and gas floats closer and begins transmitting crude instructions as it tries to inspect the problem.
Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (6) + 20 = 26
Rurik Delver |
"I am glad you all seem to know what you are doing. I am willing to help as needed but I am no where near as skilled as you all." Rurik assists as best he can.
Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Dora D Asplora |
If none of those work, I can fall back on checking the lore of legends to see if they have any suggestions.
Willing to use Legend Lore for a 29+2 (31) kn:engineering (or whatever) if we do not solve it with the 26
GM Tarondor |
You can repair The Pyroclastic Aperture with a DC 30 Craft (clockwork), Knowledge (engineering) or Profession (engineer).
You can also repair it with a DC 37 Disable Device, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (planes) or Use Magic Device.
In place of a skill check, a PC can instead attempt a DC 21 Dexterity, Intelligence, or Wisdom check.
A PC who has one or more Fire Affinity boons (earned from several Season 8 Pathfinder Society scenarios) gains a +3 insight bonus on these checks for each such boon she possesses.
A PC who can read Ignan gains a +2 bonus on these checks.
You may also tell me if you think you have a particularly suitable class ability or spell for this task.
There is always the option of coming back after you have explored more.
Rurik Delver |
If there is not any active threat or penalty for failing the check I will take 20 on a Use Magic Device check for a 41. This will allow me to repair the Pyroclastic Aperture.
Luna Solerra |
A small cloud of glowing orbs and flashing blades emerges from a satchel at Luna's back. Luna looks down at the harbinger archon in annoyance. "Oh? I see you've decided to join us then, Reticlus? Very well, give me a hand."
Reticulus automatically aids another. Assuming all of these aid anothers count regardless of check used, that's 23 base, 6 from aid another, and 2 from speaking Ignan on Knowledge (arcana).
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 23 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 23 + 6 + 2 = 34
I will use my reroll with three stars.
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 23 + 6 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 23 + 6 + 2 + 3 = 35
Dora D Asplora |
So it looks like a couple options. Rurik take 10 UMD for 31 and pile on 3 assists. Or Dora expend legend lore for 31 for kn: engineering. Dora can auto aid UMD with +23
”I think we have this folks. Anyone else? “
Valrar Altimari II |
Valrar shares his comparably mediocre skills in item use, but the ramblings do offer some unique experiences that may help.
Auto-aid on Use Magic Device.
Alie Saechel |
”Okay, Remember we have to destroy that sphere. Do we want to go see if that fire statue is working? Dropping the sphere in fire from that idol that is probably a good start!”
Dora D Asplora |
Sounds like a plan, Alie.
Let's go back if there is nothing else here.
Dora will help guide her Fey friend back down the hall to the statue to see if any fire has grown.
perception: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 14 + 2 = 25
Alie Saechel |
”I bet there are more things to fix to get the machine back working again! Rurik, mind leading us to the next room?”
Rurik Delver |
Rurik hefts his mighty hammer and once again takes charge. He leads the group down another corridor and into the next room.
Perception: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (6) + 21 = 27
Dora D Asplora |
Dora follows atop Goldwing.
I hope there are not too many rooms we need to check. I love to explore, but first things first I always say!
GM Tarondor |
Rurik leads you to a new chamber. A shimmering cube of force ten feet on each side hovers inches off of the ground at the back of this ancient chamber. Seated cross-legged inside the cube is a horned, crimson-skinned creature covered in golden runic tattoos. Deep, jagged scars mar some of the creature’s tattoos, and its wrists are bound by a thick pair of cold iron shackles covered in blazing blue sigils.
He looks up and calmly surveys your band. “What a fortunate discovery you’ve made. It is not every day outsiders such as you stumble upon a literal genie, such as myself, in need of freedom. Surely you’re aware how those stories go, yes? Freedom for a wish or three? Today is a day like those stories, if you would have it be so.”
Alie Saechel |
Alie whispers to the others. ”It’d sure be nice to have this blindness dispelled. But I’ve heard icky ways wish magic can be misinterpreted, though! What do the rest of you think,” she asks the rest of the group.
Rurik Delver |
"I do believe we will pass on your honeyed words. If you wish to speak than speak plainly and clearly. Else feel free to stay where you are and perhaps someone else might stumble upon you in a thousand years or so."
Valrar Altimari II |
"His services could be useful, what with the blindness and other issues," Valrar whispers with uncharacteristic quietness.
He then raises his voice back to normal, for the genie to hear. "Then again, every wish-granter I've happened across was insane or completely in it for themselves. Understandable, but not what we need at the moment."
GM Tarondor |
"I am, in fact, completely in it for myself as you say. But that does not mean I intend to renege on any deals struck today. Aid me and I will aid you. I find the self-serving deals are the ones most often kept. Don't you? Besides, I know much about this place, its inner workings, and the entity that guards it. This is information I could share, and loosing my shackles would free my tongue."
“I am Isah the Golden, First Flame of the Secret Fire. I am enemy to those who claim this place as their own and potentially your greatest ally, if you free me.”
Dora D Asplora |
Dora looks upon the firey creature with skepticism.
So where are those who claim this place? Did they put you in here? Why?
GM Tarondor |
Dora looks upon the firey creature with skepticism.
So where are those who claim this place?
"The four elemental tyrants, generally. Specifically, Ayrzul, lord of earth and Ymeri, lord of fire."
GM: Y'know, the ones who oppose your presence here.
"Did they put you in here? Why?
"“I trusted overmuch in the strength of some humans. The creatures that guard this place ambushed us, and now I reap the rewards of such
misplaced trust.””And how do we free you? How long have you been in this place?”
“My prison is two-fold. I am physically bound by this forcecage, which can be deactivated by tracing the appropriate runes on the opposite wall. Likewise, these shackles bind me, preventing me from escaping with magic. The dragon Vorvirex has the key, no doubt.”
Valrar Altimari II |
"Huh. I'm admittedly surprised you kept talking without promises of payment," Valrar says. "The dragon sounds like it could prove a problem anyway, we can think over your offer dealing with it. It's gaining traction in my eyes for what that's worth."
Alie Saechel |
Alie gulped with horro. ”A dragon has the key? Oh my. See, that could be a bit of a problem. I’ve been cursed with magical Blindness and none of us have a cure. If you could remove this blindness, that’d make it a whole lot easier for me to help these others with the dragon problem!”
