Even as written he has problems he'd want solved. But I'd have considered a good diplomacy attempt, sure. Not initially, but after you'd gone through so many of his followers? Yeah, maybe.

So...are we really gonna skip this level's "boss fight" and do as he says? I'm as tired of working around this level's darkness as the rest of you are, but I'm kind of a completionist, and I can't help but feel like this'll come back to bite us sooner rather than later.

I think we're in for a world of hurt if we adopt the 'kill everything that moves' mentality in this dungeon. The object right now is to get into the Spire. We've done that.

If later we have to take the bugbear's head, so be it. Right now, one or more of us will surely die if we try to take him on in the dark.

We're probably going to have to make alliances with various 'bosses' down in the depths....

This is more stating Wymond's case than trying to start a fight. I'm not going to drag the party into a battle against its wishes.

I feel like he's not going to give us a choice about where we fight him. He has darkvision and we don't, so he's gonna fight where he's got the home ground advantage.

1: we run back home for a scroll of darkvision(150gp) and come back here and kill him easy.

2: we descend further into the tower looking for whatever it is he wants us to kill, and come back when we're level 2 and have enough hp (and smite evil) to take him down.

I agree with coming back to clear him out later, problem is, at this point, we are broke and have gotten nothing of value to sell. Our best bet is to push on in hopes of salvage and put a pin in Grulk for now.


Yay. Even if all we do from here on out is hack-n'-slash, I can tell myself there was roleplaying! :-p

In point of fact, I've little doubt that you could take Grulk, but I feared for how many of you he'd take with him first. He's fast, deadly, knows the territory and can see in the dark. He'd almost certainly kill one or two of you.

The good news? That magical darkness is only in the green castle at ground level.


And that, Lady and Gentlemen, is that. You have successfully navigated the first level of the Emerald Spire! It is, in my opinion, among the most difficult in the entire Spire, so you are to be congratulated.

Also, as I have said, I started this game because the three Emerald Spire games I tried to play in all folded before we got past the first encounter. This one won't. Stick with me and we're going all the way to the bottom of the Spire.

So, having said that, you all ARE NOW SECOND LEVEL!. You won't necessarily level up every time you go down a dungeon level, but you certainly do right now.

I think I've gotten almost everything done for Wymond himself. I've never really played a class with a familiar before, so I'm not sure what to do in leveling Triath up, other than that he can now heal people by rubbing them with his snout and spending two uses of Wymond's Lay On Hands power.


I've always relied on Hero Lab to tell me how familiars level up.

I think so. I just advanced his saves and attack bonus the same way Wymond's did and his HP is half of Wymond's rounded down.

Sry, was going to get a post in yesterday but got distracted. Reading over the jump rules for acrobatics.
Does the 10ft wide pit allow for a 10 ft running start?
How high does Yirrik need to jump up to grab onto the lip of the pit. He's 5'3'', so does that mean he only needs to jump 4-7ft up to reach the top?

Also, I'm assuming all of his gear came down into the pit as well...he has a pole, that'll give him +2 on his roll.

Hmm, he's at -4 on acrobatic due to his encumberance. And his DC will be at least 20, 18 with the pole, twice that if he can't get a running jump.....hmmmm.

I'll wait for your ruling DM, before deciding what to do.

To grab the lip with his hands, yes.
