GM SpiderBeard |

Roaring with anger and pain, Faxon quickly chants a spell.
Concentration: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Suddenly, the area billows with fog, obscuring all sight beyond 5'! Faxon retreats from Ayesha, fumbling at his side as he vanishes into the mist.
Everyone can go! Faxon was last seen near Ayesha, and nobody felt him try to push through them to go up the stairs.

Nilus Romani |

Nilus scans the area for evil auras Detect Evil; Standard Action. He then moves slowly towards the Stairs Move action
I'd like to position Nilus at the foot of the stairs facing upwards, waiting on the inevitable cultist response.

Ayesha Jalal |

Ayesha cursed as the fog billowed up around her. Acting on instinct, she moved forward towards the location where Faxon was, and continuing into the corner.
Moving to the west, following where Faxon last was. Attack readied if the tiefling appears.
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

GM SpiderBeard |

Ayesha finds no joy as she rushes into the corner, swinging wildly. Nilus positions himself facing up the stairs as he awaits the cultists.

Dejik |

whispers: Ronan, can Jinxx follow the tiefling's scent?
Dejik moves along the far side of the wall, trying to make it around to the doors. She draws her sword as she moves, and prepares to swing if she spots the tiefling.
Readied attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
(Dejik carries her bow in her off hand, cold iron longsword in her main hand.)

Sarkast |

Sarkast attempts to use his magically heightened senses to hear the tiefling's movement in the room.
Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23
He then moves slowly toward Ayesha, angling toward where he thinks the tiefling may be, and prepares to attack.
Move half speed and make Stealth check to mask his own movement, using the fog as concealment. If the perception doesn't help him pick a direction, move him 15' diagonally southwest (toward the doors). With two-weapon fighting, he can draw both weapons while moving. If he finds the tiefling, he attacks, if not, he readies in case the tiefling comes into view. Attack and stealth rolls below.
The concealment of the mist prevents sneak attack damage, but hopefully the stealth check will give him a chance to catch his target off-guard.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Attack, spear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 damage, if successful: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

GM SpiderBeard |

Sarkast's perception check is good enough to tell that Faxon is in the southeast.
Sarkast fumbles through the fog, and suddenly his attack his parried! Through the fog, he can see Faxon sneering at him.
Waiting on Ronan and Jinxx now!

Jinxx |

not sure if Jinxx needs perception to hear Sarkast attack Faxon but if he does....

5 foot step to Attack
Bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

Claw1 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Claw2 Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

GM SpiderBeard |

Now that Sarkast knows where Faxon is, he can signal to eveyrone else. Faxon isn't invisible, just concealed.
Jinxx charges through the fog and leaps at Faxon! With Faxon sighted to Dejik, she fires off an arrow into the fog.
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 46
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 5
Miss Chance 50% (Dejik): 1d100 ⇒ 98
The powerful eidolon bites down hard, and a scream of pain sounds out through the fog. His second attack, a claw swipe, looks destined to hit but only catches air. However, Dejik's arrow soars in with pinpoint accuracy, slamming into Faxon! The tiefling crumples to the ground.
The footsteps from upstairs get louder and louder, and a cultist charges into view of Nilus! However, the cultist was unable to see Nilus' dangerous glaive and he almost crashes into the paladin. The cultist behind him swears and casts a spell. With his glaive useless at such close quarters, the cultist pressed up against Nilus yanks out a dagger.

Nilus manages to swing through the fog, his first shot with the glaive connecting solidly. He steps back, sweeping his weapon around to bring it down once more. This shot is a blind one, but his Goddess is with him and the evil cultist lets out a scream before falling from the stairs to the ground below.
The remaining cultist is known to be on the stairs, but is out of sight thanks to the fog cloud. Yellow question mark indicates his vague location. Eveyrone but Nilus is up!

Sarkast |

Sarkast follows the wall, moving slowly and quietly toward the stairs, ready to attack when the next cultist comes into view.
Move 15' making a stealth check to remain silent. Not sure exactly where he'll get, based on Ronan's position and the odd angles. Ready an attack if a cultist moves up next to him.
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

GM SpiderBeard |

Sarkast creeps up the stairs. He's unable to come into melee with the cultist, but his enhanced hearing picks out the cultist just ten feet away.
I'll consider you to be hidden with a readied action.

Dejik |

Dejik sheathes her sword and steps up beside Jinxx. Remembering Nilus's wishes to save even those seemingly beyond redemption, she kneels beside Faxon and asks Iomedae to spare his life.
Move action to sheathe her sword, five foot step, standard action to cast stabilize.

GM SpiderBeard |

Ronan and Jinxx hold off until their target becomes visible. Dejik rushes over to Faxon's side, bestowing the gift of mercy as she saves the tiefling from death.
Ayesha is up!

GM SpiderBeard |

Sarkast can hear but not see the guy, and he does not know if he's seen back. That said this all resolves quickly.
The cultist stumbles in through the fog, and right into the arms of the carefully hidden Sarkast! Sarkast springs through the fog, but the cultist is quick to parry with her glaive.
Sarkast's Readied Action: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 51
The cultist looks around worryingly, having seen her companion fall to Nilus' glaive and nothing else thanks to the dense fog.
"Faxon? FAXON?!"
When greeted with silence, she swears violently and turns to run as fast as she can.
"The Lord of Beast damn your eyes!" are her parting words as she runs upstairs.
Everyone is up! The cultist has run upstairs, no AoO thanks to the concealment.

Sarkast |

I'll need you to move me again, I have a hard time counting around the circular staircase.
Sarkast moves up the stairs after the cultist. As he emerges from the fog, he looks around for the cultist.
Move up the stairs; if he can reach the cultist, he'll go for a melee attack, otherwise he'll throw the spear. Also make a stealth check to try to get a sneak attack in; if he moves more than 15' he takes a -5 penalty.
Stealth (-5 penalty if moving more than 15'): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Attack (melee or ranged, same bonus), hoping for flat-footed: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 Sneak attack, if possible: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9

Nilus Romani |

Nilus follows Sarkast up the stairs.

GM SpiderBeard |

I'll move the group upstairs as an obvious action. Ayesha and Nilus can make standard actions.
The group charges upstairs and catches up with the cultist who is still trying to escape. Sarkast leaps from the shadows but his spear glances off of her armour.
Ayesha and Nilus may take standard actions!

Nilus Romani |

Throw down your arms and you may yet live! Nilus says while striking only to subdue
Nonlethal Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 4 = 11

GM SpiderBeard |

Seeing that she's unlikely to outrun the group, the cultist stares Nilus in the face and snarls. Her eyes a bright and unfocused as she speaks with religious fervor.
"And face execution? My eternal reward awaits me in the Abyss, the Lord of the Labyrinth shall destroy you and your own. I gladly die for my cause!"

Dejik |

"That can be arranged!"
What? Somebody had to say it.
I was going to go with "As you wish"...

GM SpiderBeard |

The cultist steps back for room, and her glaive spins wildly around. Ayesha feels blinding hot pain in her arm as a spray of her blood hits Sarkast in the face. Despite the force of the blow, the cut is shallow. The cultist's face is twisted in a visage of pure hatred as she spouts foul-sounding words in a strange, bestial language.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
"Torzu! zacare! Ca c noqod, zamran micalzo od ozazm vrelp lap zir de Baphomet apila gohed!"
"And make me the unraveller of things for I am of Baphomet who lurks in the labyrinth!"
Everyone is up!

Dejik |

Dejik moves out of the way and fires her bow, missing pathetically.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2

Sarkast |

"Your foul demon-god will not help you today!"
Sarkast dives within the reach of the cultist's blade, then attempts to spin past her.
Acrobatics to move through the cultist's square:
Acrobatics vs CMD+5: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
That may not be enough ... if that fails, use Sarkast's "Chance Encounter" ability to reroll. If the first roll works, ignore this.
Acrobatics vs CMD+5: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Facepalm. AoO and movement stopped.
Failing to get past her, Sarkast attempts to dodge her glaive, then jabs with his spear.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Wow, this was not my round. In the very unlikely event that the acrobatics was successful, ready that attack for when someone steps into flank, then add 2 to the attack and 2d6 to the damage. I'm not expecting it, though.

Nilus Romani |

Nilus shakes his head in sadness as he spins Radiance around in an arc Radiance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 however, subconsciously he still wants the Cultist to surrender.
There is always forgiveness. There is always another way.

Ayesha Jalal |

attack, ap: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
crit damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Ayesha winced at the attack, then went on the offensive. As she stepped forward, her blade sliced the air and then into the cultist. The placement was perfect, though she was unable to drive the blade deeply. Still, like for like.

GM SpiderBeard |

The cultist whips out her glaive as Sarkast tries to tumble past her. The nimble rogue barely avoids being skewered as the tip of her glaive pings off of the stone floor.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
While Nilus continues pleading with her, Jinxx rushes in for attack, only to be knocked back. Ayesha finally manages to score a nasty hit. The cultist simply continues her crazed prayer and retaliates against Ayesha's attack, who easily dodges.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
You're all up again! Cultist has taken 6 damage and is badly wounded.

Nilus Romani |

Nilus' nostrils flare as he becomes determined to finish this, it saddens him to end a life but she made her choice. Radiance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Sarkast |

Sarkast swings again, this time using the distraction of his friends to help time his blows.
Full attack with flanking
Attack, spear: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9 Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (3) + 3 + (2, 2) = 10
Attack, mw dagger: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 2 = 19 Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (4, 2) = 12

GM SpiderBeard |

The cultist whirls around beautifully, her glaive cutting a deadly arc through the air as she parries attacks from all sides. Smirking, she swings down at Sarkast who blocks her attack with one spear, and then lunges in, taking her directly in the throat with the second. She sinks onto his spear and then her legs give out. She collapses, dead.
End of Combat
DING! Welcome to level four!

GM SpiderBeard |

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume detect magic is active.
The fog takes a while to clear, but once it does the group begins a full search of the basement. Dejik's mercy has kept Faxon alive, although he is badly injured and will likely not awaken for several days. The following is found on his body.
On Faxon:
- Magical wand
- Magical bracers
- Magical cloak
- Two keys
- 29 gold
The two cultists have the following:
- 2 potions cure light wounds
- 3 unidentified divine scrolls
- Unholy water
- 25 gold
- 2 masterwork glaives
- 2 masterwork chain shirts
- 2 daggers
- spell component pouches
The larger of the two keys opens the door to the south.
This semicircular room has been outfitted with numerous demonic decorations. The green glass lanterns hanging on the walls give the room an eerie glow.
A brazen minotaur head hangs from one wall above an altar covered with wavy-bladed knives and curved bulls' horns, while star-shaped symbols in red decorate other walls.
A large wooden chest sits near the west wall.

Sarkast |

Sarkast waits to hear that there is no magic on the chest, then checks it for traps and locks.
Take 10 for 31 Perception (with the Elixir still active), then if it is locked, take 10 for 19 Disable Device, or spend 2 minutes to take 20 for 29.

Dejik |

Dejik studies the magic items to see if she can determine what they do.
Spellcraft: Magical wand: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Spellcraft: Magical bracers: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Spellcraft: Magical cloak: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
(I'm assuming she can't read the scrolls until tomorrow morning.)
She picks up the unholy water. I'm inclined to pour this out and recover the bottle--any objections?

GM SpiderBeard |

Dejik has read magic memorized so she can instantly ID the scrolls. Also, I've realised that everyone would try to ID the items anyways so I'll just do the rolls.

Ayesha: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Ayesha: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Dejik examines the magical items. With the help of Ronan and Ayesha she is able to identify everything.
- Wand of cure moderate wounds (9 charges)
- Bracers of armor +1
- Cloak of resistance +1
- 2 scrolls comprehend languages
- 1 scroll cause fear
Spotting no traps, Sarkast sets to diligently picking the lock, which turns out to be of exceptional quality and beyond his skill. However, the key Ayesha found seems to work out just fine. The chest pops open without incident, revealing a mound of coins, items, and documents.

- A collection of expensive-looking silverware
- A wand of bless weapon, 9 charges remaining
- A broken phylactery of faithfulness. This is a small box that, if it contains appropriate religious scripture and worn about the neck, warns the wearer of actions against his/her faith. It has a broken hinge and cannot close properly, or be used until it is fixed.
At the top is a sheaf of papers, a quick poke through the papers shows the plan to attack Kenabres and destroy the wardstone in its entirety. Every Templar of the Ivory Labyrinth is named, including those in other cities yet to be attacked. These documents are clearly of great aid to the crusaders.
Finally, there is a note in immaculate handwriting.

Nilus Romani |

Nilus looks over the note and says They plan something with the Wardstones....

Ayesha Jalal |

Ayesha happily inspected the treasures, magical and otherwise, that they had found. She had no use for the weapons, but the cloak looked stylish, as well as useful. It wasn't until Nilus read the note aloud that she began to look concerned.
"This bodes ill. It looks like they are trying to not just just destroy the wardstones, but to corrupt them, or replace them entirely."
