Raven Six |
"No," Raven Six says, one hand snaking out to grasp Donnell by his shirtfront, her eyes staring into his. "Not. Injured. Mustn't waste the potion, but. Something is. Coming. I will be well. I am recovering now, but something. Is coming. It is coming. And I ... think I should know it."
Donnell "The Fox" |
Dang - I was really hoping Donnell would finally figure out that she's a robot :P
Checking again to make sure that Raven Six is alright, Donnell helps her to her feet, then urges the group to continue on to the captain's quarters, where he'll search for a log book.
Thjodrorir "Thod" Six-Picks |
Thod looks with considerable concern at Raven Six's sudden distress, babbling nonsense and leaking white fluid.
He's about to follow Donnell's orders and approaches to drag her to the surface, until she insists she is well enough to continue.
"Raven, you were crying white gunk. And you're talking funny. Funnier. Sure you're alright? And what's coming?"
Still, she was right. He forgot how long these potions would last for. So he follows Donnell inside. Keeping an especially sharp eye out.
Sevenspawn |
Sevenspawn's demeanour echoes Thod's concerns. He assists in helping her up, having not understood almost any of her words from a moment ago.
"Whatever it is," he says to Raven Six, "we will face it together. All of us. Tell us what you can, but let us hurry - we have little time."
GM SpiderBeard |
Since the ship is split in half, and the best entrance is on the floor of the river, it's easy enough to head up between the ships.
As you do so, Sevenspawn's light shines through the gloom to illuminate the bow of the ship.
The front portion of the ship broke away and landed awkwardly here, revealing two splintered decks inside. Its bowsprit shattered and decks filled with debris, the vessel bears an ominous moniker along its fre-scarred hull: Direption.
As his light shines into the bow, something moves in response. Several somethings. To your horror, a group of nasty-looking eels wriggle free of bunks and pots to shoot out of ship and head straight for you!
These are silt eels. Spiny, dark-brown poisonous eels native to Korvosa. They are notoriously territorial and have a nasty bite that will leave the limbs stiff and numb.
Silt Eels: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Thod: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Thjodrorir "Thod" Six-Picks |
Here's a quick rundown of underwater combat: Underwater Combat Summary.
I'm assuming this isn't a surprise round, so full round actions.
"Keep them at a distance!" Raven Six warns. "Their bite is poisonous and will paralyze your limbs!"
"Right. Distance!" Thod acknowledges, and then ignores as he swims ahead, drawing his halberd and holding it at the ready. Though given his bulk, he doesn't swim forward very far.
Swim check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
MOVE: Swim forward 5 feet.
STANDARD: Ready an attack to stab at any eel that approaches in melee range. +8 to attack, 1d10+4 damage
GM SpiderBeard |
Note - you don't need swim checks to walk on the floor of the water. You just move at half speed. Swim will allow you to make use of the THIRD DIMENSION
Thod's AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Thod's Readied Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Attack v Thod: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 Damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
The eels shoot thorugh the water at high speed, two of which lunge right for Thod. He is more than ready as he manages to skewer one with his halberd. He misses his attack on the second, which runs right into his armour. The other eels zip through the water, closing in on the rest of the group!
Note these are size tiny and thus occupy the same square as you.

Thjodrorir "Thod" Six-Picks |
Being up close and personal, Thod sees his halberd isn't going to be very useful, so he draws his dagger to finish off these wriggling pests.
I don't care if there's no in-game penalty for attacking an opponent in your square like this, using a polearm to do so just feels silly, so dagger it is.
MOVE: Draw dagger. Hold Halberd with one hand.
STANDARD: Stabby stabby.
Dagger: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Donnell "The Fox" |
"To the deeps with you!"
Light Crossbow, Point Blank: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 151d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I'm guessing the -2 / 5' of water doesn't apply if they occupy the same square
GM SpiderBeard |
Thod and Donnell both attack their respective eels, scoring hits on the little critters! As Donnell attacks, his eel bites at him, scoring a bite very close to his eye, but not quite on it.
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 Damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Poison Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
Donnell takes one damage! Sevenspawn and Raven Six are up!
Raven Six |
Raven Six tries to move into a flanking position, stabbing her bayonet at whichever eel is available!
Flanking if possible. Subtract 2 if not: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 17 for 1d6 ⇒ 3 damage. Add another 1d6 ⇒ 1 sneak attack damage if flanking.
Sevenspawn |
Sorry - Paizo has been down every time I've been on it in the past three days.
Sevenspawn sticks the spear into the ground butt-first as a light source, and raises his crossbow up at one of the eels before him...
Light Crossbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
GM SpiderBeard |
As noted in discussion I'm using Sevenspawn's successfull attack roll for a spear attack. Also those are the worst f!!*ing damage rolls I've ever seen.
Bitebite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 101d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 241d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage: 1d4 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -11d4 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
Poison: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 211d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Raven Six and Sevenspawn attack the eels trying to bite them. Raven manages to score a hit, but her target remains upright. Sevenspawn jabs out with his spear, scoring a hit.
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The eels rally as they start biting wildly at the group. Most of you avoid the hits, but poor Sevenspawn is bitten twice! However, he resists their virulent poison.

Damage is for the Thod's of the world! Donnell's just a giant brain with fast fingers
Realizing that he'll never get away with reloading his crossbow, Donnell drops it and stabs at the eel with his sword: "Damn! I forgot how fast these suckers are."
Shortsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 211d4 ⇒ 3

Raven Six stabs at her eel again, her lips compressed into a tight line.
"I wish I'd thrown a bomb when they were still clustered," she says, her voice dispassionate.
Flanking attack 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8 for 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6 damage, sneak attack damage factored in.

GM SpiderBeard |
Sevenspawn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Sevenspawn awkwardly thrusts out with his spear but to little avail as the eel keep gnawing at him. However, Thod and Donnell both manage to neatly kill the two eels attacking them.
With almost all of the eels wounded and several dead, they turn tail to start fleeing, giving you easy attacks as they swim away.
Sevenspawn, Thod, and Raven Six get attacks of opportunity as the eels attempt to escape!
Sevenspawn |
Apologies, been bogged down with life.
The cleric thrusts with his spear again...
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Crit Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Raven Six |
With the enemy in what appears to be full retreat, Raven Six simply allows them to swim away. She has no particular need for dead eels, after all ... or does she? After a moment's consideration, the Alchemist starts cutting off the heads of the downed eels. She might be able to distill their poison for later use!
GM SpiderBeard |
Sevenspawn's spear thrust misses miserably, but Thod manages to slash right through one of the eels with a beautiful stab.
Raven gets right to business, harvesting eel heads in her weird, weird way.
End of Combat
The eels rush into their cabinets and you can continue exploring the bottom of the river. The bow appears to have nothing of interest, and it's still full of eels and so you instead look to your right, into the shattered hold.
A yawning wound in the ship’s charred timbers allows murky water to flow through this debris-cluttered hold. Loose timbers, small fish, and dozens of identical boxes float eerily in the quiet darkness.
Moving in this darkness you see a single creature - a small shark. As you spot each other, it hurriedly starts swimming away from you towards the doors in the east of the hold.
Map updated.
Donnell "The Fox" |
I thought we were going to take a look at the stern first, since that's where the captain's quarters are located?
Retrieving his crossbow after the combat, Donnell notices Raven Six attempting to extract a poison sac from an eel, and decides to see if that's worth the attempt. Unless this is going to take more than a minute, in which case, Donnell will just give up and move on
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
In his haste to see where the eels are headed, Donnell forgets about his plan to seek out the captain's log, and wanders into the hold with the others.
Seeing the shark, and remembering his earlier encounter with the species, Donnell calls to it, asking for help: "Kaixo lagun. Wreck hau bilatzen ari gara eta zure laguntza erabil dezakezu."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (11) + 9 + (1) = 21
Sevenspawn |
Sevenspawn grunts as the eels flee, looking at the end of the glowing spear - a weapon he feels utterly unfamiliar with. Moving with the others, he raises it again as the shark appears.
"Perhaps it just wants to chat," he says dryly, holding it in front of him. As Donnell and Raven Six speak, however, he drops it a little but keeps on the defensive, wondering if that's precisely what it wants to do after all.

The group quickly surround the shark and hack it to bits before it can mount much of an offense. The shark's body begins to float away as the opposite door flies open.
On the other side is an ugly, ugly woman.
Hair like rotting seaweed drapes this ancient witch. Loose, algae-colored skin sags off her starved frame.
Spotting the dead shark, she shrieks with grief. "SKINSHEAR!!! You'll pay. I'll eat your bones! AAAAHEEHEEHEEHEEEHEEEHEEE!"
This foul creature is a sea hag.
Sea hags are notorious for sapping the strength from their opponents who merely look at them, and for their powerful evil eye which can put a man into a coma.

Bomb, ranged 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 for 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 3) + 4 = 11 damage.
Sevenspawn |
Sevenspawn leans his spear against his shoulder, not liking what he sees - and never having encountered anything like it before, needs his hands free. He speaks some divine words and casts Bless upon the group as he moves them about.
Immediately thereafter, he ducks as low as he can and tilts his head to the opposite side of Donnell's aiming shoulder so as to give his friend a clear shot.
Bless: the +1 morale bonus applies on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and all saving throws. Once during the spell’s duration, which is four minutes, an affected creature can roll an attack roll or saving throw twice and take the higher result. The target must decide to use this ability before the first roll is attempted.
Donnell "The Fox" |
At -2/square, there's no way you can throw that far - she's 12 squares away from you.
Know/Arcana: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 7 + (4) = 29
"Watch out or she'll sap yer strength with her evil eye!"
With his crossbow at the ready, Donnell rushes to meet the foe.

GM SpiderBeard |
I'll let Raven re-do her action considering aquatic terrain rules.
As the group moves forward, they start to get a good look at her. She is hideous. So unbelievably, ungodly hideous that a strange, horrid sensation cereps over you!
Everyone must make a DC 14 fortitude save or take 1d6 ⇒ 3 strength damage!
Donnell "The Fox" |

You're kidding me...
Thod visibly recoils at the ugly woman, so shocked he slips back into dwarven.
""Det er det grimeste jeg noensinne har sett i mitt liv! Av Torag, mine øyne!"
It's so ugly, that Thod has to hold his hand up to his mouth, as he vomits a little, small flecks of stomach bile and partially digested food still managing to slip out from between his fingers. However, being so rattled and ill doesn't seem to slow him down much. He slips back into common.
"Something that ugly deserves to die!"
Spending a Harrow point for a reroll.
New Fort Save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Thod shakes off the unease, and starts pushing his limbs forward, swimming as fast as he can towards the hideous woman-beast.
Swim: 1d20 + 8 - 3 ⇒ (9) + 8 - 3 = 14
Thod easily powers through the water, aiming directly at the hag.
Donnell "The Fox" |
@SS: I think you only have to take the 3 STR damage rolled by the DM.
@Thod: We can walk along the bottom at half-speed, right? Or are you swimming up and over to make room for the others?
Thjodrorir "Thod" Six-Picks |
@SS: May be a time to use those Harrow points.
@Fox: Ahh, yes, forgot about that. Keep thinking that swimming should be faster than moving along the bottom. I'll move my token more.
GM SpiderBeard |
@SS - yeah, 3 damage. Just one roll for the whole group. So -1 to attack and damage. @Thod - Yeah, makes no sense but thems rules.
The group pushes their way ever closer to the hag. In the back, Raven pops her extract, and Sevenspawn blesses everyone as he struggles with the hag's unbelievable hideousness.
The sea hag lunges forwards through the water, rushing towards Thod and cackling like... well, a hag. As she closes in, she tilts her head and her eye begins to pulse strangely...
Thod's Will Save+Being a dwarf: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 2 = 24
