An FYI - I will be heading out of country (to the point you should not expect posting) on September 23rd. If we can wrap up part 2 by then that would be great. I'd like to play Part 3, but I cannot start until after I return on October 11th.

GM.Silbeg |

I don't know how likely it is that we'll be wrapping it up but we can certainly delay for when you are back.

![]() |

i am good with hiatus - not in a rush

GM.Silbeg |

For the record, I know why folks are doing it, but putting your actions in spoilers makes it a little difficult for me to remember and see what you are doing.
I would appreciate it if the actions were all out in the open... without spoilers.
Thank you.

![]() |

As you wish.
I learned it from another GM and love it. Turns posts into narrative rather than numbers.

Okay - I'm officially out until October 11.

GM.Silbeg |

This encounter should go fast, and then definitely heal up. I am going to try and keep pushing it on a daily basis. This may mean your character just stands around (delay), or bots a lot.
We have had a lot of time with the game sitting, which is why I am pushing. I do know the last few days have been horrible for stability.
@Filk, I checked back, and that is the damage from the goblin dog. You do have 2 temp HP on top of the 12.

Filk "Roach" Besed |

here? But the dog deals 5dmg, 2 of which goes from temp hp. So Filk should be at 20 hp +2tmp?

GM.Silbeg |

I guess.
However, please make sure to remind me of the temp HP asap if they get missed. Not used to the kineticist cheese!
It also looks like I accidentally assigned 4hp of damage to FiJeet to Filk, which no one caught.

GM.Silbeg |

Jon and I will be out of internets for the next 3+ days... so no updates after todays for a few.

GM.Silbeg |

Sorry... been a bit out of the online thinking. Will update this afternoon.

Moving discussion to discussion...
So, as stated previously, dealing AoE cold damage is quite impossible on these levels. I think all that is said on Brown Mold is that "cold damage instantly destroys it." I guess it's up to GM whether it has to be AoE or not. Getting creative... If we had a container, would it work if we froze water to near-zero and then splash it over the mold? That's the only non-magical cold AoE I could think of :)
It wasn't clear from the story (or maybe I missed it), but is this fort our destination? So we have to go there to progress the story?
And climbing is the final option. Climbing a knotted rope isn't too hard (DC5, IIRC). Filk has telekinetic finesse, so attaching the rope shouldn't be a problem. The challenge is of course the goblins who could keep attacking the climber. Could some of us with ranged attacks climb to the trees next to the fort, and attack any goblins coming too close to the rope?
If this wasn't PFS rules, we could kill squirrels until Valerka levels up and gets a AoE cold spell :D

GM.Silbeg |

The fort is your destination.
Brown Mold (CR 2): Brown mold feeds on warmth,
drawing heat from anything around it. It normally comes in patches 5 feet in diameter, and the temperature is always cold in a 30-foot radius around it. Living creatures within 5 feet of it take 3d6 points of nonlethal cold damage. Fire brought within 5 feet of brown mold causes the mold to instantly double in size. Cold damage, such as from a cone of cold, instantly destroys it.
Yeah, that's typical Paizo writing. Clear as mud. I did go with the example for intent... doing a little searching. Wondering if I am over-reading into their choice of example.
So, I am going to modify my interpretation, for lack of any evidence.
1) a patch is 5' in diameter (a 5' square).
2) Fire doubles that (into 2 5' squares)
3) Cold destroys a 5' patch.
4) Targeted cold spells (non-AE) can destroy a single square per attack.
I am hoping that this is a good compromise.

![]() |

I'll work with that compromise. It's better than having the brown mold can destroy a world with a single volcanic eruption problem.
You know.
1 -> 2 -> 4 -> 16 -> 256 -> 65,536 -> 4,294,967,296
or 21,474,836,470 square feet in 1 minute
or
770.3 square miles (that's larger than the total land area of Singapore).

I remember walking home as a wee youngin (10-12 years old) and thinking of how insane it would be to introduce a patch of brown mold to the Elemental Plane of Fire. Yeah, even at that age I was a special kind of assa-hole.

Filk "Roach" Besed |

It is my understanding that anything that has to roll to hit can be used for precision damage. In this case, she did attack you directly, rather than just splashing you.
Moving discussion to discussion...
CRB, states in "Throw Splash Weapon":"Splash weapons cannot deal precision-based damage (such as sneak attack)."
I don't think it matters if it's a direct hit or a splash...
I played a swashbuckler a long time. Got quite familiar with precision damage :)

GM.Silbeg |

Fair enough. I will reverse the damage.

GM.Silbeg |

Fair enough. I will reverse the damage.
better yet, I will just use the damage for the 2nd round of burning.

GM.Silbeg |

Ok, we're finishing up here.
I'll work on the chronicles over the next day or so, but, before I do, are we going to continue on to part 3, and get the conclusion to the story?
If we do continue, would you like to slow track this module, or play part 3 at level 3?
I will let you know that the rewards will not change based on what level you all are, so are a little thin for level 3 characters.

![]() |

I am good with slow tracking pt2 and continuing

Filk "Roach" Besed |

I might as well go normal progression and level up to 3. With Pathfinder 2.0 coming and all, I doubt I'll be able to get Filk to very high levels.
But I'm good with continuing to the third part. Although I would be hoping for a slightly faster pace - there was some pretty slow periods in this one.

![]() |

Good to continue - no slow track for me either (PF 2.0 release and all).

GM.Silbeg |

We can all work on the pacing :D
I'll do my best.
Day jobs?

![]() |

perform percussion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

![]() |

no day job until they ok Profession: Murderer
Right before profession (pole dancer) and right after profession (polite slaver).

GM.Silbeg |

Sorry, been brain dead, and forgot to get this done.
So that you can level up, the chronicle gold is 1,536gp
Also, I noticed that on the 4th Chronicle you can get a decent monetary payoff, as well as another level!

Filk "Roach" Besed |

I'll try to get the new stats posted online. ( I think I did it on HeroLab already)
A bit hectic right now with work, and I'll be on vacation for a week from wednesday.

Filk "Roach" Besed |

Back from vacation, so I am good to go if we are planning to play the part 3. Or if you are attending PaizoCon, I think best start after that...
Level 3 stats are updated, although I haven't purchased any gear yet. Was there anything special in the chronicle?

![]() |

Ok, I promise to get the chrons out tonight.
The contents of note:
Courageous Recruit: You rescued Nixa Volsetti, a new recruit to Isger’s army, from Mezodarath’s prison. During “A Foul Breed,” Nixa grants you a +2 circumstance bonus on Diplomacy checks to gather information. During “The Festering Blot,” you gain a +2 circumstance bonus on skill checks pertaining to searching or performing research in libraries. Additionally, Nixa provides you with one additional rumor about Saringallow.
▫ Goblin Slayer: You defeated the goblins who were terrorizing the Escoro family and other local shepherds. You may check off the box before this boon to gain a +1 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures with the goblinoid subtype, as well as a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls against them. If you have the favored enemy class feature and chose golbinoid as one of your favored enemies, increase your favored enemy bonus against golbinoids by +2 instead. Activating this boon is a free action, and these benefits last for 1 minute.
▫ ▫ Repurposed Trap: On your way up to Highfort, you encountered a trap made of bottled brown mold. You recovered some these jars for your own future use; immediately check one of the boxes that precede this boon if you did not disable the trap. So long as you carry a jar with you, you gain the benefits of endure elements in in hot environments and take a –2 penalty on saving throws against environmental cold. Check one of the boxes that precede this boon to throw a jar at a square as a ranged attack roll against an AC of 5 (range increment 10 feet). If you miss, use the rules for missing with a thrown splash weapon to determine where the jar lands (Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook 202). When the jar hits the ground, it splits open, filling the square with brown mold. The mold deals 2d6 points of nonlethal cold damage per round to anyone it its square. Unlike typical brown mold, it does not expand when fire is nearby—the jarred samples have become somewhat sickly from their long confinement. After you check the second box, cross this entire boon off your Chronicle sheet.

GM.Silbeg |

Chrons are ready to be scanned.
Game is reported
Will start as soon as characters are updated

Filk "Roach" Besed |

Thanks!
Then for purchases... What were we missing last time besides AoE cold damage? I’ll need at least rope and grappling hook. And CLW wand for 2PP. And probably a handy haversack to carry all the stuff (I think we have enough Fame?)

GM.Silbeg |

8 fame doesn't quite cut it. I think that is actually still only 500gp (9 would be 1500gp limit).

![]() |

and here they are!
Ooh! Check out Mr “I have a fancy new number” signing all those chrons.
Congratulations again, Jack.

![]() |

I’m ready; let’s boogie.

GM.Silbeg |

My apologies... it seems that I have been continually forgetting to get back to this adventure.
On another note, three of us in the game will be leaving for Gen Con on the 31st... and will be back late on the 6th. I wouldn't expect anything to happen in game during this time.
Other than that, I expect this one should move pretty quickly, once we get back into it.

GM.Silbeg |

As a note... I will be heading to Gen Con tomorrow, coming back the 6th. So, the game will be on hold for that time.
