-1 Penalty on OM, I said. o wo Pathfinder defaults to rounding down unless/until noted otherwise, and that's BETTER for you. XD

Also, they're mounted, you're not. Remember that when adding flavor to the combat!

The tieflings simply let out a cry as they turned to face the charging Paladins, and the battle was joined as they began fighting, striking out as hard and as fast as they could. They seemed to realize that outright victory was all but impossible, and so put all their efforts into the assault...

Tiefling Army's Reckless Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12

...only to have their spells and magics turned against them by the oncoming forces of righteousness. It took almost an hour of butchery to finish the tieflings off, but finally the majority were slain and what few surrendered had been taken prisoner. Irabeth wasted no time at all in looking over the wounded and assessing the damage that had been done, and returned not long after with a report.

By her estimate, it would take a day - or more probably two - for the army to fully heal its members and restore the equipment that had been damaged from the battle. They wouldn't be able to heal while on the march - and they'd come entirely too close to losing a significant part of the army. The enemies had been attacking in a frightfully reckless manner, and soldiers who did that could cause far more damage than most commanders expected. They'd have to be careful going forward... and it was your decision on whether to rest now and heal or keep moving.

On the bright side, you could probably scavenge the battlefield for goods and supplies today.

Incidentally, army powers like Channel Energy don't provide out-of-battle healing.

Will DC 16 (Tarov): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 Not that it would've done much anyway. XD

Irabeth's arrival interrupted Rowans attempts at treating the injured but she handed over the man she had been bandaging to another as she listened to the debrief. "Then we take two days, lets hope we will be recovered in one. But this will allow us time to consolidate, gather and interrogate as needed. We can send our advance scouts and keep an eye out in case the enemy is sending more fodder are way as well. But the success of this crusade relies on us remaining cool headed. If they entrench at Drezen than we will deal with it, but we cannot be reckless or this will have all been in vain."

She gave quick suggestions to Irabeth and those present then. "Have the men claim whatever useful gear is about, scrounge through their supplies and improve our own. Lets find a place where we can fortify quickly and move our forces there temporarily. We will assist once we do a sweep of the area. Julian, Tarov with me. Lets ensure there is nothing hiding nearby."

Tarov nods, allowing Rowan to take charge. "I don't like it, but yer right. Ain't no point in riskin' th' whole army jus' t' try an' take 'em by surprise. We should try an' get movin' t'morrow, though."

Incidentally, you'll have to rest ALL of tomorrow to heal.

Irabeth nodded and passed out the orders to the men. Those who were reasonably healthy got to work - the rest sat down to rest and recover, tended by a few specialists.

Supplies Recovered: 1d6 ⇒ 6 And 3 spent for today.
You've also recovered 2 units of Goods for Drezen.

With your arrival on the battlefield, though, it seems that you've finally entered into the proper territory of the Worldwound. Despite your victory, the sky seems a sullen red, dark and angry - and there are no plants you'd care to taste, no water worth drawing up.

The Dawnbringers travel just a little less further afield than before, seeming hesitant to go too far away from the camp - and it's as evening falls that you hear why, as Sosiel comes forward with a faintly disturbing report. Apparently, one of the men has been talking about the hopelessness of your situation - that it's likely you're all going to die before you even take Drezen. After the day's carnage, it's having a measurable impact on morale, and many of the men seem hesitant instead of confident and bold. The real question is... what, if anything, are you going to do about it?

The Dawnbringers are currently suffering from a -2 penalty to Morale.

Sosiel's report is met with a grateful expression from Rowan however she was anything but pleased. She would deal with this negative morale like she would a wound, treat it before it festers. "And where can I find this poor man?" She wasn't about to let anyone question their victories over a false sense of hopelessness. Not if she had anything to do with it.

Just to speed things up ^^;

Once she was informed she looks to her companions before nodding to Sosiel. "Any of you may accompany me but I intend to deal with this now. I'll not have our victories tainted because they wish to accept a defeatist sort of mentality. However I won't tolerate that on the eve of the most important battle of the 5th crusade."

Looking to Sosiel again she spoke more quietly. "Thank you for informing me and I hope Aron is well. Let me know if you see anything else that is suspicious and as I said you are welcome to accompany me as well."

As she moved through camp

She took the time to address and encourage individual's along the way, thanking them for their continued heroism and encouraging them to take heart in what they accomplished. The army was starving, they had one two victories already. They were bloodied but undefeated and still they had work to do. It wasn't a time to get discouraged. It takes her about an hour to reach the man she was both interested in and angry at the same time about.

Her hair was already turning red as she approached, her mythic nature bled into her words as she tried to remain calm. "I hear you believe our cause is lost; which makes me curious as to why you think that way. Why is your resolve faltering now? Especially now that we are here on the edge of the worldwound?" She wasn't challenging him but she wanted details as to his reasons. Though she remained standing throughout her speech.

Tarov follows after Rowan, intent on helping bolster the men's resolve. Standing at her side, he is a short but nonetheless imposing figure, clad in shining armor and with steadfast resolution in his eyes. "Th' Dawnbringers have laid low th' enemies o' th' Crusade! The man in question - a battle-scarred veteran introduced as Arles Jhestander - just looked over as you approached. "Commanders." he grunted in acknowledgment. "We've barely gotten to the Worldwound, and already they came within a breath of smashing us beyond hope of taking the city. I've gone into this place over and over, and every single time it's ended horribly. You're all shiny and new now, but do you really think passion alone is enough to defeat the demons? We have constant support from all over the Inner Sea, and we can barely hold the lines. Now the Wardstones are down, and trust me - we're all going to die screaming." There's a sense of deep-seated weariness about him - that despite your victories, faith is one thing he no longer has.

"Don't mistake Passion for Weakness Jhestander. The enemy here is dead and we are still here because of our passion and belief. So forgive me while I doubt your statement's truth." She kicks aside a fallen tiefling's helm, feeling little for their crushed foe. She had listened to Arles story and found it wanting. "Your story is the same as many who have fought and lost here. So I will not recite my life to you Arles; instead I will state it simply. This wounded land took everything from me and yet Here I Stand. One of the few True Sarkorian's left and I will not wait for doom to come to me like the rest of the Inner Sea! Support should have been in the form of troops and firm resolve to see it through, but instead they leave us to fight alongside those brave enough to throw themselves into the fray. Even Dragons fight on without fail, what makes us any lesser than them! This support you speak of is a cowards way and I don't care about them for I am resolved to do my duty more then ever because the Wardstones are no more! I will not wait for empty promises and let the innocent suffer because uncertainty and despair got the best of me!" Her voice rose slightly as her hair became flame red and her eyes burned with her righteousness. "No! I would rather go screaming into the void and struggle for an eternity of anguish before I let one innocent go before I!" She slams her fist into the symbol of Iomedae emblazoned on her armor to punctuate her last words.

It took her a moment to calm herself but her eyes and hair remained that flame red and molten gold in color as she waved a hand to the battered veteran. "Time and time again you have faced them and survived." She clenches her fist as she shakes her outstretched hand. "Your experience should be our sword. Yet instead it is a weight that drags you down. So I ask you, Why did you come? Why didn't you stay in Kenebras when you had the chance?" Her question was rhetorical as she added looking him straight in the eye.

"Because you don't fully believe in what you are saying. Deep down you still believe we can win or else you'd never have come with us at all. The injuries today are expected, this is war against a foe who is greater than us. However they are not superior! Who will fight if we don't Arles? Who will take Drezen?"

Oh but Julian can fly... for short bursts Rednal! XD

Post Battle Trauma
The Tieflings failed recklessness did little to settle Julian's frayed nerves. He'd narrowly avoided being burnt up in the magical attack unleashed by the demons and now doubted his ability to combat their infernal magics. Had he not wavered in the last instant they'd never had struck the formation, but the vile and foul energy of their magic shattered his own. He'd failed. Again.

He was kneeling in the muddy field, churned up by the blood of so many slain enemies and injured allies alike. Einherjar was in his burnt hands and he was used his burnt forearm t wipe the sweat and blood from his forehead as his wings hung heavily behind him...

"Not again..."
<:Julian.:>

Everywhere he looked he couldn't avoid seeing injured horses or paladins, a grim reminder of his past brought all too painful to the present. What did the future hold if such a skirmish did this to them...

"My magic and potions did nothing. Again!"
<:Julian, listen to me.:>

His vision trembled as his eyes shook in frustration as he tried to comprehend how the demons could be so strong and even after years of study he was still no closer to a solution to breaking their resistances.

Will Save Julian: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

<:Julian. Be quiet and listen! Now stand up and get a hold of yourself!:> Einherjar's struggle to assert control gave JUlian a moment of clarity as he retained mental control of himself and rose unsteadily to his feet.

<:We are battered yes, but undefeated. The enemy is routed. You did not fail young Redeemed. Whatever happened in your past you must forget it and continue forward! Be an inspiration to what lies ahead and not a reminder of what lay behind!:> The blades voice faded as he looked around himself, his thoughts more clearly. His uncertainty fading as Einherjar spoke clearly once more. [i]<:You may not believe this but others may one day look to you in the hope of a better tomorrow, do you want them to remember when your resolve wavered or when you held firmly to your resolve?!:>

He closed his eyes momentarily as he shook off his moment of panic and found his way to his companions once more.

He was still trembling slightly as Irabeth read off the report, frowning at the thought of allowing the enemy to possible prepare for their arrival. But losing the wounded by performing a quick march was just as foolish. He remained quiet though and when Sosiel arrived he was disturbed to hear that there was dissension in the ranks over the injuries they had received.

He followed his companions and watched in silence as Rowan unleashed another heart felt speech but he couldn't help but understand the man's position. As it was the same he had suffered years before. He sighed and stepped forward looking between Arles and Rowan as he spoke. "I however understand how he feels. Granted I have not tasted bittersweet defeat as many times as he claims too but realize this Arles. What my companions say is true. They are so true in their intentions and beliefs that if Rowan sees a path to victory then I will support her. However I suggest you think on this as well. For all your battles, for all the pain you suffered. Is it worth letting everyone you fought with to have died in vain if you were to turn back now? For me I would lose the respect of my company and ultimately myself; which I cannot afford to lose either. I'll not let their sacrifice or any others be in vain an I still have someone I am seeking in this wasteland. So I cannot stop fighting, not now or in the foreseeable future. I hope you will believe in us and fight on. That is my hope."

Arles listened, clearly paying attention to what was said... and when you were finished, he sighed slightly and shook his head ruefully. "I have been a bit of a fool, huh?" he said quietly. "I'm sorry, this place just... so many bad memories. They wouldn't send us out here if they didn't think we could win... and we can't ever give up, right?" The holy symbol on his breastplate flashed slightly - and as it did, the dirt and grime on his armor tumbled to the ground, leaving it much shinier and brighter. He took a deep breath and saluted.

"Please accept my apologies for my earlier fears, commander. You're right - and it won't happen again."

The army is no longer suffering a morale penalty.

Seeing Arles armor shine more brightly in this gloom of the worldwound brought a fierce smile to her face. Some would fall, some would fight on and die later but ultimately they were watched over from on high. She returns Arles salute and nods at Tarovs statement. "Not at all Arles, we all stumble now and again. But carry on soldier and if you ever feel you need to let a weight off your shoulders then come to us, your companions or Sosiel and keep in mind that you are not alone."

By the time all is resolved, the sky is darkening, and it doesn't take long for the Paladins to set up a watch rotation. Saying that people 'sleep' is a bit of a misnomer, given that a third of the camp is still awake at any given time, but it's something the men are all used to. The next day, the army simply rests and works on repairing their equipment for the violence up ahead...

Julian was on his toes, keep an eye on Nurah as asked of him and accompanying her as needed. Seeing the army recover made him relax some. He didn't like so many wounded but now it looked as though they were ready to march and patch up along the way.

Rowan looked to the men, some were still battered but they could patch up along the way. Upon hearing her comrades she nodded. "We will need to be ready unless we need to retreat. I won't sacrifice this unit for minor victories. The Forward Scouts will needs identify weak points in Drezen's defenses, anything we can exploit along with anyone we can save as well. If we can bolster our numbers it will make all the difference. We will have to take on Drezen Cautiously... We can discuss this along the way. Lets March."

After a day of rest, the army packs up and moves out again, heading into the Worldwound. Progress is notably slower than before - not because of injuries, but because the riverbed you're walking up through is difficult terrain to get through, and you're only able to cover 15 miles during the day's journey.

Supplies: 38/50.

There is, however, a landmark that the army was looking for - an old chapel high up the cliff. A narrow set of stairs winds upwards (And will require 2 climb checks to ascend), and Aron notes that chapels like this one often had a good stash of supplies. There's a small chance that something is still up there. Sosiel agrees - and seems to think that cleaning the place out and driving away any monsters would be a good gesture. Nurah is the only one who disagrees with heading up there, and seems to feel that examining the place would be a waste of your limited resources - resources that might be needed to help take Drezen, which is the reason you're out here in the first place.

Rowan was apt to agree with her two commanders, her opinion of Nurah was deteriorating quickly with her negative attitude on things. It was impractical to pass supplies up. Especially in wartime conditions."Two to one, looks like I will rely on faith that there are supplies, the three of us will make our way to the chapel and clear it if necessary. Have the men remain on high alert and keep scouts to a minimum. No one moves unless they are in pairs. Our mages should be ready to counter any magical attacks lest the enemy tries to catch us off guard. Irabeth, have the men fight defensively if an enemy appears. We need to minimize our injuries if at all possible."

Tarov almost slips about thirty feet up, but dwarves are good with stone, and he's able to ascend safely... albeit with more effort than the other two, who took the easy way up. Finally, though, you're all able to reach the chapel and take a look around.

(New map.)

The gates to this small courtyard lie smashed and broken with tall grass growing amid the rubble. Two main buildings stand side by side to the east, separated by a single alleyway. The smaller structure appears to be a stable, while the other is much larger with several doors and stained-glass windows, apparently a chapel judging by the pious statues along its rooftop.

Her boots clapped as they touched the ground once more, her armor shined resplendently despite the glood of the red skies above. Stepping off her nimbus as she joined Tarov just outside the ruins. "Proceed with caution. Tarov follow after Julian, I will stay close behind you and Julian... Don't do anything foolish."

She stayed close to Tarov as their companion slipped away quietly ahead of them.

And where are you taking the lead to?

Whoops!

Julian heads to the first set of doubledoors that are within site, taking note of the other doors and signaling back to the others as he moved forward slowly.

So cross D1 and head for the double door that is straight across the open area.

The sharp tang of musty, decaying straw fills this large stable. Its eastern-most wall has collapsed into a steep pile of broken beams and rocks that blocks the way to the other side. A large mound of discarded weaponry lies amid the rubble.

Tarov looks around the collapsed room, before his gaze is drawn by the pile of weapons. "Why would there be a bunch o' weapons here?" he asks, brow creased in confusion.

Julian's eyes narrowed at the sight of the weapons on the ground, his reason was telling him it wasn't worth going further but his gut was urging him to finish the search and reclaim this ruin. "I don't like this a damn bit... Systematic search, we don't go further in until each room is clear..." He quietly spoke to his companions as he kept Einherjar close and proceeded to cast detect magic and checked the weapon pile for any aura's.

Two of the weapons in the pile, buried near the bottom, have magical auras - nothing in the rest of the room seems to be enchanted. The weapons in question are a longsword and a cold iron longspear.

It was definitely down before. I think the leap second futzed with the forums - deleted quite a few posts, but that seems to have been the worst of it.

There's no sign of evil in the chamber with the weapons - nor around the room. Examination reveals that the longsword is a +1 vicious longsword, while the longspear is a +1 benevolent cold iron lonspear. The next room - whose door isn't trapped - is a little less... nice.

The vaulted ceiling of this massive sanctuary reaches nearly thirty feet overhead. Smashed stained-glass windows stretch in narrow bands above the doors. Four angelic statues occupy each corner of the room, though their faces and wings are cracked and broken almost beyond recognition. The walls are covered with disturbing shapes and runes that have been scratched into the stone. An altar, befouled with grime and filth, sits against the southern wall.

Tarov carefully searches the shrine, his new weapon resting on the pauldron of his armor.

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25

When Tarov was halfway through the area, there was a shuffling sound - and eight ghouls, two dressed in priestly robes, jumped out from where they'd been hiding and started to run forward. All of them had a strange, triumphant look in their dead eyes.

And despite everything, they seemed like they had the upper hand. The two robed ones were furthest in the back, and unfurled scrolls that began to glow with unholy light. The other six ghouls darted towards the rest of you a moment later, jaws slavering as they attempted to bite you and moved into position with impressive accuracy before chomping out.

The only one to actually be struck was Rowan, and though the disease in the ghoul's jaws tried mightily to bring her down, the constitution of a Paladin was rather greater than that - and with a cry, she was able to shove the undead backwards and flat-out ignore the disease that failed to gain purchase in her bloodstream.

Tarov is by the south altar. Rowan and Julian are on the northern side of the room. The two robed ghouls are by the eastern doors.

20%, Rowan - 5% per CL. And Julian, no Fleet Charge - that's a Swift Action, as is using your Arcane Pool.

Tarov's spear pierced straight through the ghoul that had attacked him, layering holy power in a way that sufficed to shoot the ghoul across the room - and it exploded into a cloud of ashes as it hit the wall. Julian let loose a moment later, his first slice igniting one of the ghouls and sending it staggering backward to collapse, followed shortly by the other as Julian used his spell combat techniques.

Rowan was the last to move - although 'last' was a bit of a misnomer in the frantic movements of combat - and conjured up a barrier to try and help prevent summonings. The result...

Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

...was mocking laughter from the two clerics as they completed their spells and two Babau appeared in flanking positions around the Paladin, joining the ghouls around her.
