Tarov you still have an Enlarge Person Extract you can use. It'll stay with you until you use it. :)

@Rowan:
You recognize three of them as crusaders who have gone to battle against the demons in the past, though none of them are especially notable.

The warriors turn as they hear the shouts, and one of them scowls. However, despite Tarov's outstanding efforts at diplomacy, the soldiers don't seem like they're willing to listen. "Stay out of this!" the woman raising the weapon countered. "Everyone knows that a blade drenched in the blood of a virgin gains powers over demons, an-" Rowan tensed to charge, and the knights readied themselves for battle.

The speaker deflected Rowan's blow as it came in, right on the heels of Julian moving forward, and four of the knights promptly rained blows down upon the Paladin, even as the other two took up guarding positions to stop Julian and Tarov from getting through to her.

Julian's rage reflected from his eyes as a vial appeared in the young noblemans hand mysteriously. He mixed the bomb and tossed it at those that surrounded Rowan, expertly avoiding harming Rowan or the captive...

His voice is cold, his mood deadly. "You scum have lost your courage. You disgrace our cause!" Flashes from decades ago enter his mind, the men he fought alongside, true crusaders, men and women devoted to the cause. So much that they gave everything and these few break the moment the city is attacked. Had the war effort became so atrophied, what happened to their resolve?

Long day, and I'm about to pass out. I'm just gonna do one round tonight, and I'll try and get the other two up before class tomorrow.

Round 1

Tarov rushes in after his comrades, unusually slow to act. "I don't care what ya know, lass, yer goin' 'bout this all wrong!" he shouts as he moves to disable the woman.

Tarov uses Panthera on the Hunt on the woman leading the group (full-round action) doing nonlethal damage.

-both of whom managed to evade the worst of the blast. The four knights maneuvered to box Rowan in a moment later, flanking her from four sides as they slashed out and their companion - rather futilely - attempted to keep her friends at bay. He could only block so much space, after all... The captive woman, meanwhile, was simply struggling as best she could to try and get away, but it didn't seem like she had any chance of managing it.

Raising her shield had been a good plan on Rowan's part - none of the knights came anywhere close to hitting her, and the crazed speaker - who Tarov had been unable to reach due to the soldiers blocking the way - just howled angrily. "Not all of us have intrinsic holy powers!" she spat out. "What's the loss of one civilian if it means we can kill more demons!? The bodycount would be in our favor if fewer demons are going around killing people!"

Aaaand waiting for Tarov's post for round two, then moving on. ^^

Slight change in my Round 3 speech~

The madness of these crusader drove her to heights of new found anger as she roared back at them. "Your cowardly drivel angers me! The Inheritor saw your craven nature and judged you UNWORTHY of her gifts. You that abandons oaths so easily!" Despite the fire and smoke she continued to advance on the one that had raised their sword first. To the one that threaten such ill on an innocent virgin, her eyes flashed in fury, her golden hair took on a red tinge as her outraged righteousness came roaring out with her battle-cry. "IN HER NAME I...!" She brought the Heavy Mace that had once been used for evil down with a resounding blow, crunching bone and denting metal before splattering her face with her opponents blood as their skin tore underneath. "... STAND AGAINST YOU!"

Rolls above~

Incidentally, I think this round numbering is throwing me off slightly. XD; I don't resolve by rounds so much as blocks... so for the future, anyone who goes before the enemy is in round one, anyone who goes after the enemy is in round two, even if you haven't acted yet. For the sake of consistency, please label it round two even if the enemy goes before all of you. That way you won't get mixed up about labeling it 1 or 2.

Tarov managed to defend, even as Julian threw another bomb that dealt rather more damage to one of the knights and splashed over two more.

Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Unlike before, neither managed to avoid the splash of flames, but nor was it enough to take them down. It did, however, bring down the crazed woman that had been about to stab the captive - so there was that, at least. Rowan managed to knock out another of the warrior surrounding her, and abruptly, there were only two injured ones and one healthy fellow.

"F-forget this!" One of the men said. All three of them dropped their weapons and turned to run - one was in range of Tarov, and the other two were moving in different directions away from Rowan - it was likely she could only strike one if she chose to do so.

Chance for an attack of opportunity from you two.

@Rowan:
Note that none of these mad knights have detected as evil - they seem misguided, misinformed, and possibly badly traumatized by the recent events, but not outright evil. They did, however, assist in threatening an innocent, and dealing with that is in your Paladin's code. You'll need to decide if the damage they've already suffered (both are badly hurt after that last bomb) suffices for your requirement to see them punished, or if you're called to go to a further extreme. Also, unless you can make two attacks of opportunity, you may need to let one go. Either way, it doesn't seem likely that they'll try this again - the sight of a raging Paladin thwarting their plans often has that effect on people...

One thing about heavier armor - it's bad for running. Julian's actually able to catch up with the man, and as he realizes he's being followed, he just lets out a shout and tosses a vial of alchemist's fire towards Julian.

They weren't difficult items to use, but his throw was terrible, and it came nowhere close to hitting Julian. The pause did, however, give Julian the time he needed to get into range... and offer Rowan plenty of time to safely free the woman.

"Th-thank you." she managed to gasp out, the trails of tears still visible on her face. "Everyone's gone mad, and-" she hiccuped, her shoulder shaking. "Now that Lord Hulrun is dead, nobody knows what to do..."

Rowan gives the woman a warm smile as the red tinge in her hair fades and the golden wheat returns. "Give me a moment, I need to make sure they don't bleed out on us." She listens to the woman's account as she checks the fallen soldiers.

The armored man is heavy, but Julian's not exactly a lightweight, and eventually manages to drag him back to where the others are. Meanwhile, another spasm of sobs shook her. "His body... the demons p-put in on display." she whispered, shuddering. "They wanted everyone to see it, to be afraid of them." It took her a few moments to gather herself back together and continue speaking. They have safe houses scattered across Kenabres - there's one in the n-northern part of the city, just inside the wall and southwest from Defender's Heart."

She listened intently to the woman's story before nodding, she'd asked enough questions of her. "My name is Rowan, that large dwarf is Tarov and that is Julian." She gestured to each of her companions before waiting patiently for the woman to introduce herself.

Rowan was quietly impressed Julian had brought the one man back alive...

Use detect evil. Just in case.

Just in case she checked the girl for an evil aura and tried to see through any falsehoods as well. One can never be too careful when your enemy are creatures of lust, decay and deceit. Once she had the girls name she gestured to their surroundings. "Where are you hiding right now? We can take you there and see to your safety. Anyone disagree?" She was looking to her companions and than the survivors as she knew this would put them off track temporarily.

Julian drags the man back roughly, he wasn't a slouch but this guy was friggen heavy, seeing Rowan was taking care of the girl he started the annoying task of stripped these fighters of their gear. Lest they wake up and cause a ruckus, without their gear they'd be more docile...

We are just collecting gear aren't we... Don't worry about a list unless you want to he doesn't plan on keeping any of their items unless they are really good. :P

Hearing his name called Julian, still in the form of a noble brat, gives a firendly wave whilst stripping the man of his breastplate and tossing it to where he planned to pile their gear. Rowans suggest of a cart wasn't bad, too bad they didn't have a mule. "Ya ya, I got it."

There's no sign of evil around the girl, nor any indication she's lying - she's badly shaken up by coming within moments of dying, but that seems to be the worst of it. "I-I've just been... trying to find a place..." she whispered. "There are some nice buildings in the noble district that haven't been damaged too badly - I th-think the demons only cared about places where people were hiding, so they didn't bother anywhere that was abandoned."

Meanwhile, though there are no mules to be found - that would probably have qualified as an outright miracle, given what the city had gone through - there was a battered cart in one of the alleyways that Julian and Tarov were able to locate. With a few minutes of work, it could probably be made serviceable - though it would have to be pulled by hand, and that could be trouble if more demons attacked. Fortunately, depriving them of their armor is making them much lighter and easier to move around, and hauling useless lumps around wasn't actually an unusual job for a dwarf... experience that could be put to good use here by Tarov in terms of things like load distribution and generally making them as easy to haul as possible.

"In times of such carnage Thugs will take advantage and begin looting, the noble homes would be your downfall milady... Best you stay with us for now." Rowan rubbed her eyes wearily, this many people grouped together only meant they would be targeted more despite how slowly they were moving already with Anevia. "Tarov and I will move the cart, we'll load them in the cart, Anevia will sit in the cart as well and our blinded friend will sit on the backside to displace the weight. Horgus and this girl will stand between Julian and Tarov. If anything attacks us, you four will seek cover and we will do our best to protect the cart and eliminate threats." She couldn't turn around and deliver the girl to Blackwing Library, No. They needed to move forward, not back.

So Rowan pushes, Tarov pulls and Julian scouts like usual. WE could have Horgus and the girl stand on either side of the cart so Tarov or Rowan is the first thing seen just in case.

"We need to quick march, find Horgus and Anevia's residents and than make for Defenders Heart and fortify it." She was trying to think strategically. Looking at the five mad crusaders they brought down. They numbered over half a score altogether and if the mad crusaders could be convinced they could turn Defenders Heart into a make shift barracks, fortify it and crush the remaining cultist cells. "We won't stop unless we must, we will make Defenders heart by this evening. So lets get going..." She hated to abandon the gear in place but they would make do...

"Lets get this thing fixed Tarov." Julian nodded to the cart, but after Rowan spoke he chuckled. "I have a spell to handle some of the gear, we don't need to abandon it yet. But it will restrict my movement a little. However we can keep the armor at least and most of the weapons, the Vials we can carry ourselves."

After a few minutes of fixing the cart...

He had considered Rowan's plan and speaks as he loads the unconcious and Bound crusaders into the cart. "We won't reach Defenders heart today, not unless we get lucky and I doubt it. We will have to find a place along the way to hide. We could reach it by tomorrow though. Besides my spell only lasts 3 hours and I can only cast it once..."

Tarov nods at Rowan's plan. "Sounds good," he agrees. "But Julian's pro'ly right. I don't think we'll be able t' make it there by dark. But makin' as much progress as possible is definitely th' best for all o' us."

"What are you talking about!?" Horgus finally spluttered out. "My home is nearby, and that's our destination... or do you think it would actually be safer to trundle past alleys and slums where any kinds of monsters could easily be hiding? I'll be going there by myself if I have to!" Some things never really changed... on the other hand, even if there were looters and thugs there, that was probably less dangerous than encountering demons would be. Any remaining infernal creatures were probably focused on areas with higher populations, or perhaps holdouts of resistance, neither of which was likely in the richer districts.

She pointedly ignored Horgus's blubbering, instead she listened to Julian and Tarov. She disliked the Tieflings assumption they'd not arrive before nightfall but she had to admit he was probably right. Horgus's mansion would be a safe haven for them and they could scout out Anevia's home before the day was over. She was more concerned about the crusaders waking up and causing trouble. "Lets see how far we get then."

She looked to Lord Gwerm then. "As I said, we shall find your house first Milord, so by all means lord Horgus lead the way. We shall try not to overstay our welcome or your gracious hospitality." Rowan got into position behind the cart.

Hogus's selective hearing was grating on Julian's nerves, even when they spoke of him being first the fat bastard demanded it. Such self centeredness was the true mark of nobility and Julian hoped someone shot him if he ever became so pompous and arrogant. Refraining from letting it show on his face he spoke. "No need for him to lead, give me a direction and what landmarks there are and I'll get us there no problems." Once he had the information he needed, he led the way again. Scouting out for trouble before the group ran into it.

However before he took off he packed a bunch of gear into a back pack and arranged it so that it didn't tumble before casting his Floating Disk spell. Allowing him to transfer 300 lb's of gear at his normal speed. Less encumberence for him, only annoyance was that it had to stay within 5ft of him. Sneaking around though meant that this was easy to accomplish.

(From I on the map - the library - up towards J.)

It may have been best for everyone that Horgus' manor wasn't too far away. This particular housing district had been built specifically to get away from the press of buildings in the inner city, and as you move towards it, the destruction lessens somewhat. Finally, around lunchtime, you finally manage to get close to a building that looks entirely unscathed... on the surface, at least. Scouting the building reveals that it's safe to enter, and your most obnoxious ally promptly does so.

"Ack, those thieves!" Horgus growled as he looked around. "Hired them and fed them, and the first thing they do is abandon me." He strode forward, eventually pulling aside a bookcase cunningly set onto rails and descending a flight towards what looks like a large vault. "Hah! They didn't break in!" he shouted in triumph as he saw the vault door still shut. "Worth every coin, this was. I'll have this open in a moment." With that, he busied himself with opening the complicated series of locks.

Julian didn't mind the thankless work but continued to keep an eye out for demons or oppourtunistic thieves.

As Horgus busied himself with the locks Julian mumbled to himself. "With your grateful personality I'm sure they were utter besides themselves abandoning you..."

She seemed to mirror Horgus's disappointment, shaking her head as she said. "So much for loyalty these days, she casts a wary eye on their sleeping foes before accompanying Horgus into the house." She keeps the girl close and the cart out of sight lest they attracted foul attention. After the search of the house was complete she smiled at Horgus's elation that his safe was intact.

However, the moment Julian started to mumble Rowan elbowed him in the gut, hard. Her whisper was commanding and blunt, she'd not have him destroy what little work her words had done to improve attitudes in the group. "Shut your mouth, your attitude is not welcome either. If your going to be an ass, than strap yourself to the cart and watch the prisoners. I will call you if we need you..."

While the annoying tag-along works on opening his vault, Tarov performs some minor maintenance on his weapon. Well-crafted as it was, it still wouldn't do to let it go without being clean and sharp. Rowan watches Julian go before speaking to Tarov. "If you were trying to cause carnage and death on a large scale where would you target? The less densely populated and more spacious Upper district or would you target the middle to lower class. Where the markets, hawkers and the poor are more closely hemmed in." She sighs. "A veritable feast for demons out to capture souls..." She hated to think of what was happening in those districts but she couldn't let such thoughts cloud her judgement. The demons would get there due, eventually.

She looks around and marvels at Horgus's estate. "If we fortified this place and attempted to make a stand I am sure they would take notice and attack en mass."

How long are staying here before moving on?

Horgus finally let out a pleased sound as the last of the locks came undone and he opened the vault. It was... sizable. More than just a place to hoard gold, it was a miniature building in its own right, complete with a number of supplies to keep people alive for an extended period of time. "I'm going to stay here." he said as he returned with a fairly large sack of coins. The man coughed awkwardly as he held it out. "I realize that I, er, haven't always been easy to get along with... but the three of you did see me safely here, and I am grateful for that. This can't have gone unnoticed, and I'm sure the Queen is already on the way with an army to retake the city, so I think I'll just hide until they arrive. If there's anyone still selling things, put this to good use - I'd like it to help fund the war effort somehow."

You've received a bag with 2000 gp inside it. Also, unless physically prevented, Horgus has every intention of getting out of your hair (and Tarov's beard).

She takes the bag gratefully. "No one could blame you for what you've been through. However, you have our thanks and we will put it to good use. I will trust your judgement and hope you will remain here until we return with reinforcements. I hope your right though, just the three of us cannot repel an invasion. But we will sure try." She gives Horgus a small smile, embracing him momentarily before leaving him to hide in his vault.

She nods to Tarov on her way out and sets the bag of gold on the floating disk of Julians as she says to her Tiefling companion. "Let's find Anevia's place of residence next. We may yet get farther if we move swiftly."

"North of here. We're about a third of the way there." Anevia said as she continued escorting Aravashnial. The woman you'd picked up was helping with that, guiding the elf from the other side and clearly doing what she could to make herself useful. Walking would arguably be faster - the real problem is that there's so much debris in the streets that pulling the cart is a fairly slow affair as you're forced to push and pull it over particularly rough terrain, and the unconscious knights begin waking up as you can hear some talking from the road ahead.

"You, and you! Fight! Nyahahahahahaha!"

As Julian peeks around the corner, a scene is revealed - and that's by far the most appropriate word. The debris has been cleared from the streets and a makeshift stage of sorts has been set up. Four badly-injured humans are standing there with mismatched armor and weapons as two small demons prod them into fighting each other - four more people lie dead in the street. Fortunately for Julian's attempts at stealth, the demons in question seem distracted by goading the prisoners into some type of re-enactment of earlier events, and they're not paying much attention to the area around them. The demons don't look terribly powerful, so killing them isn't the real issue - it's killing them without winding up with dead civilians that's the real task.

He ponders for a moment before adding. "They're forcing them to play some sort of game. In mismatched armor and armed with weapons, they're renacting some sort of horrid play. I can get out there and try and bring them down. However looks like our friends are waking up."

Rowan considered for a moment before taping the side of the cart with her heavy mace. "You have been disarmed and bound. If you attempt to flee I will hunt you down and recapture you. We then let Julian rush in first, Tarov and I will rush down the center and deal with the demons directly." She puts away her heavy mace and draws her crossbow. I wonder sometimes if Paladin's can hear themselves talk? Because they sound mad... "Sure I'll use my fist to take them down. I know the two of you can take those flying rats with ease." He nods to Tarov and Rowan. Hoping that the mad crusaders would stay where they were, not like they were going to get far without their equipment.
