GM Rednal |
The door is easy enough to open - all you really have to do is pull a small latch and it opens wide. However, the careful examination of the area does turn up one other thing of interest - hidden in the pile of papers is a Scroll of Flaming Sphere (CL 5th). There doesn't seem to be anything special within the miniature prison, though.
Shalluk |
Shalluk examined the scroll. It didn't seem likely it was one he would be able to cast, but it was an interesting item. He glanced over at the one to the left and moved to open that one, and nodding to one of the others to take the other.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Tanwen Anwyl |
"That scroll might be useful to me, at the very least for healing purposes." Tanwen notes as Shalluk moves onto the next prison.
Cale Vatay |
"ok, more creepy mutated bodies, nothing else to see here I guess, time to move on to the next room"
Tanwen Anwyl |
After accepting the scroll, Tanwen leads the group back to the last room, and opens the other door.
GM Rednal |
Map updated.
The ceiling of this strangely cold chamber arches to a vaulted height of twenty feet. The floor contains eleven wooden lids strewn haphazardly over eleven five-foot-wide pits in the ground. From the darkness within these pits echo up strange shuffling sounds and, every so often, a low moan.
Cale Vatay |
Cale'anon looks into one of the pits, curious as to what it was he was hearing.
GM Rednal |
There was a shuffling sound as Cale moved forward, and a goblin abruptly dropped from the ceiling and landed between several pits just ahead before spewing out a long line of acid at the three of you.
Acid Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Reflex DC 13 Halves (Cale): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Reflex DC 13 Halves (Shalluk): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Reflex DC 13 Halves (Tanwen): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Fortitude DC 13 or Nauseated 1 Round (Cale): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Fortitude DC 13 or Nauseated 1 Round (Shalluk): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Fortitude DC 13 or Nauseated 1 Round (Tanwen): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
I believe that's five acid damage to Cale, two to Shalluk and Tanwen, and Cale's also nauseated for a round.
The unusual goblin had successfully managed to get in a surprise attack, and with that, the battle was joined.
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Initiative (Cale): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Cale, I need you to update your stat bar and profile to match the exact format that Tanwen is using. It's much easier to reference things as-needed when you're all using the same format. ^^
Tanwen Anwyl |
You labeled us as enemy on the initiative rolls, so either we're killing Cale, or you just made a paste error, I believe order is Cale, Shalluk, Enemy, Tanwen.
Shalluk |
Shalluk grunted as the acid burned him, cursing in Aklo at the searing pain. The one time I get burned and it's not with fire...
The Oracle responded by aiming at the strange Goblins with his Crossbow. Acid spewing it may be, but it was still just a Goblin.
To Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5
Cale Vatay |
huh, my post got eaten apparently, it wasn't much, just me saying that I can't really do anything because I'm nauseated
GM Rednal |
Shalluk's bolt struck home, but even as the bolt fell to the ground, you could see the goblin's body start to patch itself up. It darted forward a moment later, then swung out at Tanwen with one of the three weapons it was holding - she was the only one he could reach, given the way the three of you were in a line.
Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
The sword seemed to unbalance him, though, and swung through the air several feet away from the Chevalier instead of actually striking her.
Shalluk |
Shalluk watched in horror as it healed the wound he had inflicted. So, maybe not just a Goblin. It had three arms, spewed acid and healed wounds that would cripple or kill a normal Goblin. It was definitely time for the Big Guns.
With a gesture and a murmur in Aklo, Shalluk summoned his mother. Maybe it wouldn't have such an easy time shrugging off the spectral bolt. It was force damage rather than a simple arrow.
The spectre raised her crossbow and fired.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Tanwen Anwyl |
The creature now very much within her reach, before she was even that much aware of it, Tanwen decides to attack the creature, as it had already attacked her, hoping that she might do enough to get past the fact that it seemed to be self healing.
Masterwork Falcata: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (1) = 6
Cale Vatay |
Cale'anon gets over his paralyzing nausea and channels magic into his weapon, murder in his eyes "you're dead you little pest" he says moveing behind it to flank with the fire infused female 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
GM Rednal |
Shalluk's bolt had no trouble hitting the goblin, and Tanwen's blade followed a moment later, as did Cale's remarkably evil-sounding threat. And his weapon, of course. That was rather important as well. The creature staggered, but barely managed to avoid falling, and swung out at Cale as hard as it could in response to his taunt.
Melee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The creature may have been a bit too enraged, though, as its weapon simply smashed into the ground instead of going anywhere close to the elf.
Shalluk |
Muttering a curse in Aklo, both Crossbows focus on the Goblin. With a pair of almost identical thumps! both bows released at the Goblin.
Crossbow Bolt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 6
Ranged Touch Attacl: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Welp, that failed spectacularly.
Tanwen Anwyl |
Masterwork Falcata: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 261d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 2 + (5) = 12
Confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Seeing the creature getting weak, Tanwen gathers all of her strength, and obliterates the odd goblin.
Cale Vatay |
Cale'anon swings his blade, intending to kill the little freak,
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 forgot favored enemy (goblinoid) last time Edit: not sure if that hits, but if it does he should be dead
GM Rednal |
Oh yeah, he's dead.
Blow after blow slammed into the little goblin's body, and he dropped his weapons with a cry of pain before staggering backwards, tripping over the cover of one of the pits, and falling backwards right through it. His scream abruptly escalated in pitch, only to be silenced a moment later as whatever was down there finished him off.
The foe (literally) dropped a +1 longsword, a silver dagger, and masterwork handaxe.
With that done, you could finally look around the chamber - or simply keep going through the exit to the south. The creatures in the pits didn't seem like a threat, at least, so there was that.
Tanwen Anwyl |
And to think I forgot some extra damage, the Falcata is a x3 weapon, and I only rolled for x2
"What do you think the purpose of this room is, some sort of prison or torture room?" Tanwen asks after the fight has been finished.
Cale Vatay |
"not sure, I didn't get a good look into the holes before the little bastard got the jump on us.. assuming the long sword can be weilded as a longsword by medium sized people anyone want to call dibs? Otherwise I'll take it"
Shalluk |
Shalluk glanced at the sword and shook his head. "If none want it it will sell. Eventually. I shall, however, take the knife." It was good to have a back up weapon...and one that was silver was an added bonus.
Shalluk glanced into the pits, using his strange eyes to determine at least whether they were injured, undead or magical.
GM Rednal |
The creatures shuffling around in the pits were simple zombies, undead that had been present there for who-knew-how-long. The pits were far too deep for their uncoordinated limbs to escape, and as long as you didn't fall in, they wouldn't be a threat.
Of course, you could always take the time and used ranged attacks or very long weapons to put them out of your misery.
Cale Vatay |
Cale'anon does so, calmly and carefully nocking, aiming, and fireing from his bow, systematically killing each of the foes that could not fight back or even effectively dodge
do we even need to roll for this? Also how many are there
Tanwen Anwyl |
"I advise we move on, these creatures are no threat to us, and I see no reason to waste time dispatching them, if we take the time to do so it may endanger Sandpoint further." Tanwen suggests as she sees Cale taking out his bow once more.
Cale Vatay |
"they are an asset of our enemy, it's best they are dispatched quickly so they can't be used against us, if you want to speed us along help me kill them, preferably with something you won't run out of, like a ranged cantrip, or a weapon with a long shaft, do we have something like that?"
Shalluk |
"Just that ranseur you grabbed earlier." Shalluk glanced at the zombies. "I doubt anyone would take the effort to free them. Once we're done we could return and end them." The Tiefling considered. "We have a few things on that list."
Cale Vatay |
"right the spear thing, with that it shouldn't take more than a few miniutes to kill them al.. Re-kill? Un-un-dead? Re-dead? Whatever."
Tanwen Anwyl |
"The Ranseur would likely be a better option, as it would not waste our resources, but it would still likely consume a decent chunk of time. I know the goblins are not aware that we are on our way yet, but if you are going to dispose of these, please do so quickly."
Cale Vatay |
"it'll take five miniutes at most, faster if you can and do cast cantrips to help the then takes the pole arm and makes short work of them
seriously, 11 of them, one round is 6 seconds, and they can't dodge
When he finished, he whiles his brow and asks "ok, where to next"
GM Rednal |
They can't dodge, but you can miss... on the other hand, yeah, it's pretty much impossible to fail here unless you deliberately mess up. XD
Several moments of grim, unpleasant work later, the remaining undead had perished and you were able to look through the southern hallway. It extended for about thirty-five feet, ending in a door at the very end. There was also an open side passage that lead to some stairs, but some ancient event had closed the passage with rubble - nobody was going to be getting through that.
Tanwen Anwyl |
"Well, I guess our only option here is the door." Tanwen remarks, glancing at the caved in passage.
She then places her hand on the door and opens it slowly.
Shalluk |
Shalluk nods, and covers Tanwen with the crossbow. If something jumped out it would take a bolt to the face. The Tiefling was becoming jumpy at the strange things they were seeing.
GM Rednal |
This strange room is a fifteen-foot-diameter sphere. Several objects float in the room, spinning lazily in space - a ragged book, a scroll, a bottle of wine, a dead raven surrounded by a halo of floating and writhing maggots, and a twisted iron wand with a forked tip. Yet perhaps the most unnerving aspect of the room is the walls, for they are plated in sheets of strange red metal that ripple every once in a while with silent black electricity that seems to coalesce into strange runes or even words far too often for the effect to be chance.
Tanwen Anwyl |
"Well, this place is creepy." Tanwen cannot help but mutter out as she attempts to cast detect magic.
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 23 Failure
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 24 Failure
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 7 Failure
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 8 Failure
Arcane Spell Failure: 1d100 ⇒ 19 Failure
Thirty seconds later, Tanwen is cursing at herself and starts removing her armor. "Stupid armor, stupid spell, stupid goblins..."
Shalluk |
Shalluk nodded, also using his own abilities. The place was obviously magic, but he didn't trust that some undead spirit or other nasty wasn't lurking within all the energy of the chamber. Detecting things both undead and alive, he scanned the area.
Shalluk |
Shalluk grunted. He really didn't like the idea of entering that magic field unless he had to. Instead, he reached out, flexing his fingers and focusing on the wand...and casting Mage Hand to pull it towards him. Hopefully the magic of the field wasn't liable to stop him. If it worked he could retrieve the scroll.
Cale Vatay |
mage hand doesn't work on magic items, maybe try the wine or the raven?
