Cale Vatay |
Cale nods the man has a point "perhaps first thing in the morning? he asks both to his team and the captain.
Tanwen Anwyl |
"Sounds like a plan then, and we can all do any preparation so that we will have the best chance of victory." Tanwen says agreeingly.
Cale Vatay |
"right then, we'll leave now so as to get proper sleep, so we can be ready to fight come morning, oh! Before I forget, would it be possible to have some armor made or delivered for soba here he says gesturing to the panther
Once his question is answered, assuming Cale is granted leave, he departs for his room at the inn, and prays to the Lady Desna, before going to sleep.
—————————————————————————————
In the morning he cleans himself, puts armor on, sharpens his blade, says another quick prayer and goes to pick up the armor (if it's available).

The day passes well enough - with more than enough time to do any shopping - and dawn breaks early. Most of the town has yet to catch onto the fact that something truly bad has happened, though rumors are definitely flying around. The guard is out in force, though, and clearly trying to put people at ease - still, the faster this problem can be solved, the better off everyone will be. There's no telling what's hidden beneath the town, and it may be best to go prepared for anything.
The sheriff left a note for you overnight - when you're ready to go, meet up inside the Glassworks, where the opened tunnel had been found.
Shalluk |
Shalluk had used the last of his spells to heal himself that night, to make sure he was at his best for the day exploring the tunnels. He'd been a little surprised to find he had enough power for two spells. Apparently he was getting stronger.
As he dressed he considered what he had done in two days, and what was likely to happen down in the tunnels. He did not, in all consideration, like the idea very much. Running away had been so much simpler. But the town seemed to need him and he found that sensation far more powerful than simple fear.
Sighing, he checked over his crossbow and headed to the glassworks.
Tanwen Anwyl |
Returning to the inn room, Tanwen was surprised to see an old study book and sword lying on her bed, with a note. She recognized them however, the sword had been her master's, and the book was supposedly a book of magic which Tanwen's parents had acquired one year when they had a little bit of extra money in an effort to foster Tanwen's knack for magic. Picking them up, she at once felt safer, knowing that she was being protected by those who cared for her. The note confirmed what she already knew, that these items had been dropped off for her by those who felt that she may need them.
The next day, Tanwen studied the spellbook and left with both the sword that had been waiting for her and the one she had been carrying all along. Remembering what the day held for her and her friends, Tanwen headed back to the glassworks.
Cale Vatay |
When Cale'anon reaches the building and sees the note he immiedietly sets about reading it.
GM Rednal |
Deep in the glassworks, two men in sturdy medium armor were standing guard near the tunnel, and nodded as you approached. "It looks like this is how they snuck in." one of them said, gesturing down the tunnel. "There's a break in it about halfway down - an old sealed-up passage that seems to be what those notes were referring to. Not much light down there - you all sure you'll be able to see?"
I've been called up for jury duty starting tomorrow, so updates may be a bit delayed this week.
Shalluk |
Don't worry Rednal - tell them you're a RPer and they'll never allow you to judge anyone!
"I will be fine," Shalluk replied. His heritage meant that he could see well in the dark for short distances at least. "But thank you for the concern." Checking his crossbow once more he glanced into the darkness, seeing what he could make out.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
GM Rednal |
Yeah, but I want to be chosen. ^^ I think it'll be a valuable experience. Besides, if I really wanted to not get picked, I could just start loudly talking about Jury Nullification...
The tunnel extends for hundreds of feet - longer, in fact, than you can see the end of. Part of the way down is what looks like an old, broken-down wall, and you can see a branch path of the tunnel heading further away from the main path. More worryingly, however, you can hear a faint sound from a large cave...
New map up. The highlighted green area is where you're entering from.
Tanwen Anwyl |
The one time I had jury duty it was for a murder case, I wasn't chosen but still had to go to the courthouse for a week before they got to me in alphabetical order and I was dismissed, I later saw in the paper that the defense lawyer wanted to be removed from the case and I think I remember that they had to get a whole new jury. And this was a case that was already expected to last a month or so.
Tanwen could see just fine in the darkness as well, though she was never quite sure why. "If we do need light, I have a few torches, but I would hate to give any creatures that might be down there advanced warning of our presence of possible." She did not move to take out a torch however, instead placing her hand on the hilt of her newly acquired blade but not drawing the weapon.
Cale Vatay |
Cale'anon mumbles a few words under his breath and balls of colored light appeared.
Shalluk |
The Tiefling glanced at the magic Cale used with mild curiosity. He had the...sense...in the back of his mind of a similar spell. Not balls of light, but lighting up people and objects.
It didn't seem necessary, however, at least not right now. As long as Cale's magic didn't give them away, it was more useful for the Elf to be able to see with his own spell.
"It sounds like a cave down there," Shalluk said as he headed down, crossbow aimed and ready. "Hopefully that will give us some clues as to how bad this cave system is."
GM Rednal |
Even as Shalluk spoke, a strange shape darted out of the shadows. It looked like a hairless humanoid, walking on back-bent, doglike legs, with a hideous mouth flanked by tiny arms with three-fingered hands.
Initiative (Enemy): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Initiative (Cale): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Initiative (Tanwen): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Initiative (Shalluk): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Rather fortunately for all of you, though, it wasn't very quick off the mark... but it's not a type of creature any of you recognize, either.
Tanwen Anwyl |
Yay I rolled over 11, so that triggers my foolhardy rush, causing Tanwen to move up to her speed (35 since its the first round) during the initiative check as an immediate action.
Tanwen quickly moves towards the unidentified creature and pulls her sword out before slashing at the creature.
Masterwork Falcata: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d8 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 2 + (5) = 13
Cale Vatay |
Cale, not knowing the level of threat provided by the lone opponent decides to conserve his magic and not enhance the weapon, simply fireing it as normallongbow to hit (includes guidance): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Soba |
Soba charges up at the small creature with it's bite and attempts to drag it to the ground.
to hit (bite): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
damage (bite): 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
trip: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
when I say charge I'm just using descriptive language, he's not using the charge action
Shalluk |
Shalluk wondered out load what the strange creature was. Of course, since he was feeling threatened, his Curse kicked in and he spoke the words in Aklo.
Still, Shalluk raised his crossbow and opened fire on the creature. It certainly wasn't peaceful, whatever it was.
To Hit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 2
GM Rednal |
By the time the the three of you finished, the creature was a pile of broken limbs lying on the floor, no longer any kind of threat. Its long ranseur clattered to the ground, and there didn't seem to be any other threats within the chamber (or valuables - besides the weapon, the strange creature seems to have no personal possessions at all). Down through the tunnel ahead of you, you can see a path branching off to the right, as well as the way forward ahead of you - whatever else may be there is more than sixty feet away, and so out of sight.

Shalluk |
The Tiefling picked up the Ranseur. It was time to start collecting the enemies weapon, on the theory that then they couldn't use them. And, Shalluk had to admit it would also be nice to acquire more money. He'd discovered he had more money than he'd expected but it never hurt to have more.
"Ahead or right?" he asked, glancing down both paths.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Tanwen Anwyl |
"It's possible that the area down here is a maze, and if that is the case then going right at each fork may be advisable rather then getting lost, so my suggestion is that we head right." Tanwen suggests as she also looks down both paths. Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
Cale Vatay |
"good enough answer for me, but we should probably mark each passage we do take, just in case." he says pulling out a dagger and making an x to the right of the passage they were about to take before going into it himself.
Shalluk |
Shalluk had a glance round the room before moving on to the next tunnel. "Wise move. I would prefer not to get lost own here."
Peception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Cale Vatay |
"Well then, might as well open the door then he says quietly to the others, before slowly and carefully opening the door.
Shalluk |
Shalluk checked his bow and raised it to his cheek. You never knew what lurked behind a door. He'd heard tales that Goblins were sneaky and vindictive, and lurking behind a door or setting a trap would make sense. He kept his eye out for ambush or the crude traps a Goblin might set. A load of rocks in a bucket would still hurt.

Map updated.
The hallway twists and winds for a bit. A long passage leads off to the side, while just ahead, you can see a somewhat more relevant chamber.
A red marble statue of a strikingly beautiful but, at the same time, monstrously enraged human woman stands in the middle of this room, her stony expression twisted in fury. The woman wears flowing robes, and her long hair is held back from her face by an intricate headdress of hooks and blades. In her left han d she carries a large book, the face of which is inscribed with a seven-pointed star. Her right hand holds a glittering metal-and-ivory ranseur.
Shalluk |
Shalluk stared at the statue for a moment. It was...intimidating. He considered it one of the more terrifying artworks he'd encountered. He didn't trust such a statue at all, especially since the weapon was possibly a real one. Instead, he focused his eyes on it, seeing if there was anything...unusual.
Shalluk uses Detect Magic, folloed by Soul Seer which functions as Deathwatch followed by Spirit Sense, which functions as Detect Undead for all types of Undead in one go. I think Shalluk may have been accosted by some masonry at some point...
Tanwen Anwyl |
"An odd place for a statue if I do say so myself. Do you think the goblins put this here?" Tanwen asked curiously, she hadn't really heard of goblins constructing statutes, but then admittedly she wasn't an expert on the subject either.
Cale Vatay |
"doubt it, but then I don't recogonize her. Wonderful craftsmanship though"
Shalluk |
Shalluk blinked his eyes, returning his vision to the mortal world. "Nothing strange or unusual about it," he added after a few moments. "If one of you wishes to try taking the weapon you most likely can. Otherwise we can continue."
Cale Vatay |
Cale shrugs, figuring that no one was using it and tries to pry it from the statue, prefering to do as little damage to the statue itself as possible
GM Rednal |
You're retrieved a Masterwork Ranseur. There are three exits from the room, not counting the one you came from - an opening to the left that seems to go into the tunnels, a door to the north, and stairs going up and to the east. There's also another passage heading east, accessible through the southern hallway.
Tanwen Anwyl |
"Where to now? It's curious that there would be stairs down here, but perhaps it would be best to examine the area on this level before we take the stairs?" Tanwen thinks aloud. She knew that she had suggested following the right most path each time in case the area was a maze, but it did not appear to be any sort of maze at this time.
Shalluk |
"Agreed, Shaluk replied, looking at the other options. "I do not wish to leave a hostile enemy behind us while we go up. At least up here we have an escape route if someone from below tries to ambush us in here. If we need to go down, however, we should check that one out first - I suspect it's another entrance into the town, and we should know where it is."
He glanced at the east tunnel. "Finish looking through the tunnels, then the door?"
Tanwen Anwyl |
"Sounds like a plan." Tanwen confirms, leading them back east to the tunnels before continuing north.
Cale Vatay |
Cale notices his companion sniffing around and asks"Do you smell any goblins down there? Or demons?"
The cat shakes it's head when he says goblins and i assume, correct me if I am wrong again when he says demons.
Tanwen Anwyl |
So we couldn't tie Soba to a rope and lower the cat down and then being it back up?
"Why would there be demons down there? Also, what does a demon even smell like? Will other then a succubus or an incubus I mean, those would be pretty easy to figure out."
