"Lets be sure to grab it after we deal with the big bad boss."

"I'd rather grab it now b'fore a bunch o' kobolds come by an' snatch it up," Grargath, short of breath, flicks the blood off of his axe. "Nighttail, did yah 'ear wha' she said before she died in th' tunnel?" he asks, trying to mask his shared frustration at her lack of help in the fight.

Marcus nods to the dwarf, "Good call, forgot we left some behind us."

He quickly starts stripping the kobold cleric of useful gear.

Nighttail shrugs. "No offense, big man, but me helpin' in this conquest was not part of the deal. If I help, there's a decent chance I get stabbed, and if I get stabbed, there's a decent chance I float up to see the big kobold in the sky. Or whatever."

She glances towards the dead cleric. "She was prayin' to Vapula when she died, but I'll pass on Hell, thanks."

The ranger looks back to Marcus. "Anyways, if I die, nobody will lead this tribe to its new, enlightened era of peace with Belhaim. And all your hard work will be wasted."

She offers the party a toothy grin.

"The 'future cave' is where the tribe keeps its eggs. You can think of it like a nursery. Best we skip it. Any fightin' in there is liable to break one."

"Not helping is liable to get you stabbed" Marcus mutters as he gathers up his dropped shortbow, but he lets the matter drop. Looking over the map he says, "Skipping the nursery leaves one fire trap, whatever the heck that is, then your former soon to be late boss.", thinking for a minute.

"What can you tell is avout him? Is he a fighter? Sorcerer? Does he typically keep warriors in his lair, how many?"

"Roaghaz is a sorcerer," Nighttail explains. "The most powerful in the tribe. Claims he has dragon blood flowin' through his veins." She rolls her eyes. "All kobolds claim that though."

"He'll likely have his cronies in his cave, 'servin' court.' They ain't nothin' more than a few bodyguards though. Don't worry about tryin' to convince them to leave him though. They're deep into that Aeteperax cult of his."

Grargath shakes his head. "I'm fine with skippin' the future cave." He had no interest in harming babies, especially when walking with proof that they had the potential to turn out... Well, not necessarily good. But not monsters, at the very least.

"Dragon's blood, eh?" Grargath chuckles. "Likely t' make mistakes with an ego tha' big."

"Wha' about this fire trap we're headin' for? Easy way around it?"

Marcus groans at the thought of some diabolical kobold fire trap, but looking at the map, says.

"OK, skip the future cave, past the fire trap and straight to the Kobold sorcerer and his bullyboys." turning to Cira, he ponders.

"I'm wondering if a sleep spell might take out his minions if they are grouped up. I hate thinking fighting a sorcerer chucking spells at us when we are stuck behind a meat shield. I have 2 spells left in me for the day."

"I've got a couple left in me," Cira agrees. "I can certainly try to put as many of them to sleep as I can. I'm just not sure I'll be particularly helpful once all of my energy is spent." She grins apologetically as she pats her crossbow.

Nighttail shakes her head. "No easy way 'round it. Got the whole tunnel soaked in oil. Tripwires throughout, each one connected to a mess of liquid fire bottles. I'd show you where, but Roaghaz, the paranoid dullscale that he is, changes 'em weekly. Ya'll just need to keep your eyes on the ground."

She turns to Cira. "I don't know any specifics, but he can do all manner of things. Shoot bolts, protect himself, makes copies of himself, shrink people. Oh, and his cloak is real nasty. It bites you if you get too close."

She wanders, lost in thought, half listening to Nighttail speak, but slows and turns to the kobold when she hears something that piques her interest, brow furrowed in confusion. "His cloak... bites?"

Following Marcus, the party picks its way through the trapped tunnel. The light from Cira's spell reflects against the walls of the passage, the oil-soaked stone rippling with bands of color. When the path turns west, the surprisingly keen-eyed bard finds each tripwire in turn, finally exiting into in a large cave.

Fresh straw covers the cave floor. The bones of many different creatures, humans and animals both, hang on the walls. Two boulders bisect the cave, obscuring what the other half holds. Four kobolds, armed with shields and spears, stand at semi-attention along the walls. On seeing the approaching light, one of the kobolds shrieks a warning.

A fifth kobold with emerald scales steps out from behind the boulders, draped in a voluminous purple cloak, held to the diminutive humanoid by a series of leather belts. Silver bangles clink around his wrists and in one hand, he clutches a long, thin bone, stained with old blood.

"Such impunity!" he snarls. "Who dares trespass in the lair-den of the Blood Vow?"

Then she locks eyes with one of the guards.

Chanting in Draconic and waving his arms in complex motions, Roaghaz's form divides into three separate mirrored images of himself. These images shift and contort, making tracking the real sorcerer a difficult task.
