Endor the Forgotten |

Endor will be continuously on a look out for threats, danger and any adult coming with in 5ft.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Taariik |
”What? You want to see the ill child? We can just give her the medicine and go!!! You are all not very concerned about your own wellbeing!! Headmistress, Patros has the medicine. He will surely give it to you!” and then Taarik looks expectantly at Patros.
Ito Sor |
I am troubled by the aura that old woman gives off. I sense that she is evil. There is a foulness about her. Ito whispers to Patros as they stand a little away from Goliath and the children. Should we ask the children about their caregiver?
Maru Dasima |
"Captain Dante doesn't like children, I'm afraid." Maru mutters to herself, not really to anyone. She looks around, examining the faces of the children, looking for any signs of want or abuse, and finding none.
GM Pathmaker |
That's a heck of a roll!
At Endor's mention of medicines, Auntie becomes much more relaxed. Her scowl and hostile tone disappearing instantly, ”Ollysta sent you - why didn't you say so. Coming up here unannounced and scaring an old woman. How many of you are out there, tell them to all come in and I'll fix us some tea." While she doesn't appear overly friendly, she seems willing to be courteous and engage in conversation.
The rest of you outside sees the old woman waving you in.
Taariik |
”Tea, tea?? No, I will not even come near you lady. My duties ended at the door actually. So thanks no. No. No. Ok! I stay here. Far away from you and sick children!“ Taarik says and moves no closer.
Endor the Forgotten |
"It seems there are a few children that still want to see the pony, and my friend is quite afraid of infection. Can we meet you inside in five minutes after a few more pony rides and I try to calm my friend?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
GM Pathmaker |
"Oh yes, much better idea to leave the fleas and animals outside", she looks at the crew outside, "The kids and still play with the horse. I'll bring the tea outside." A few minutes later, Auntie pours some hot tea at a play table surrounded by some chairs.
Endor does not need to reroll Diplo, only one attempt can be made in 24 hours. Her Indifferent status can be improved if engaged by others' rolls.
Endor the Forgotten |
During those few minutes, Endor would like the talk to one of the helpful children from earlier and asks a few questions leaving for answers after each.
"Goliath would like to know what you do during the day here?"
"Goliath likes apples. What does Auntie feed you?"
"Sometimes Goliath gets sick. Do lots of kids get sick here?"
Sorry about the extra rolls I was not sure if we were changing attitudes or making requests.
GM Pathmaker |
I misunderstood your intent; Auntie was already inviting you in, another request was not needed to talk to her inside. Nonetheless, we'll go with her bringing the tea and conversation outside.
As soon as Endor start asking questions to the children nearby the table, Auntie shoos them away. She shoots an annoyed look at you, "Hey - why are you so interested in the children with so many questions? Aren't you just here to drop off the medicine? I'm trying to be a fine host and you ignore me and presume to speak with children." She looks about, seeming to keep account of her children and your group out front, "And do they want tea or not?"
Endor the Forgotten |
I think it me who is not being clear. The point of getting her away from the children, either going in or having her go make tea, was to question the children without her around. Though we can keep going from here.
GM Pathmaker |
Yep, understood. At this point though, Endor is the only person who has actually spoken to Auntie and rolled successful diplomacy, the other half of the group is still standing on the sidewalk talking amongst themselves (except for Ito who Detected Evil and withdrew). Endor can't do both task of interviewing kids and keep her occupied at once. Auntie will likely not give anyone permission to interview kids; also, no one has asked to speak with the kids alone, nor explained why they are doing so. The entire party will have to participate if this assignment is to be accomplished.
Patros Randallas |

Some tea would be delightful, ma'am...here...let me help you. Sit, I'll finish pouring it. Patros says as he motions the old woman to sit.
You look a little...piqued...are you sleeping well and eating properly? I can take a look at you...and the children as well, if you like. I have thd medicine, but if not diagnosed or treated properly, medicine us useless...
GM Pathmaker |
{Diplo DC 17, success, she is Friendly}
"Oh my- a real gentlemen!", Auntie exclaims with even a little blush as Patros performs a tea ceremony, "Been a long time since someone courted me with the Old Way of manners."
"Oh don't you worry, I'm perfectly fine. Handling these children with the love and care that I give, takes a lot out of you. I have my own remedy - just a few responsible drops of the snake bite" She produces a small flask and adds more than a few drops of alcohol into her tea, "A little for yours?...", she offers. "And lets give us those meds you've brought."
Ito Sor |
It was my intent to talk to the kids while I gave rides. I'll take that task with whoever joins me.
As he leads Goliath around the yard multople times Ito talks to the children.
So, we are here with medicine. Are some of you sick? What does Auntie do all day? What do you do all day?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Maru Dasima |
Maru enters with trepidation, but prefers the company of the old woman to the children. "Please excuse my, er, moist appearance. The water won't stay, so I won't damage your furniture or anything."
Taariik |
Taarik will not drink nor eat anything and will try to keep his distance to all children and in doubt rather keep the old woman company.
Maru Dasima |
Maru listens to the old woman talk, trying to get a read on her.
Using sense motive in the usual way, and Perception to read her aura. Specifically, trying to get her emotional attitude towards all creatures within 30 feet, especially in regards to her attitude towards the children. E.g. does she feel genuine parental-style love, or does she resent them, etc.
Sense Motive on Auntie: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Perception for aura reading: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
GM Pathmaker |
No thank you, ma'am. A bit early for me, plus I am "on the job", so to speak. But go ahead...
Auntie smiles meekly and pockets the flask in a neat manner. After few sips of the tea, she asks ”I was running low on medicine, you came at a good time. Who is carrying the medicine chest?, she beckons for the parcel.
As Endor and Patros speaks to Auntie, Maru stands nearby quietly using her auratic sight on the old woman.
Meanwhile, Ito tries to get something useful out of the boys. This first and most talkative boy spouts a mix of useful, already known and useless info. ”She can be mean sometimes –but she tells great stories – I pooped yesterday – she makes sure we help out with cleaning – we get sick now and then, but she always cares for us – I want a Goliath of my own.” Ito succeeds on DC 15 Reveal an unimportant secret from Boy #1

I don't recall who it was who was carrying the medicine.
"Kids can sure be a handful, hmm? I have to admit I don't really care for children much myself. Must be a lot of work to keep this many in line."
This isn't a lie, it's just the truth -- Maru doesn't like kids.
diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) - 1 + 2 = 17
sense motive to glean what she can from the response: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 2 = 22
GM Pathmaker |
Patros is carrying the meds. Also FYI, Auntie is maxed out on Diplomacy, her attitude cannot be shifted more than two steps up. See Diplomacy on what else you can do to accomplish your goals via diplomacy.
"Six handful!", Auntie exclaims at both Maru and Endor, "But I do just fine by my self. You've got to love them, even if you don't care for them, to do this job." Her words sound genuine enough; the latter part hints of resentment.
Ito Sor |
What type of cleaning do you do?
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Ito Sor |
Ito talks to this second boy. It is ok. My friends and I came to bring medicine to help the sick children upstairs. You can talk to me. I am not like the other grown-ups, am I. Look, I am just the same size as you.

After a few moments of thumbing, they both reveal, "Some times we go to clean other people's houses, in the uppidity areas. But they do pay us! And we like to help", they say excitedly, "We get some candy money and Auntie uses the rest to buy medicines for the other children here who are sick."
Ito Sor |
So Auntie gives you medicine when you are sick? That's good.

Endor the Forgotten |

To auntie, "Is that so? Who did you train with? I find it surprising that the children see no other healer than you? I have always found it helpful to have other healer provide a second opinion."
Ito Sor |
Ito will continue to make small talk with the children. He feels that he has enough information for now. He continues to lead Goliath around with the kids taking turns at riding.
Endor the Forgotten |
"Shall we find Ito?"
No longer needing to force himself to be social, Endor's shoulders round and his gaze falls to the ground. He retreats into himself and walks to find Ito.
Taariik |
”Finally we give these people what we WERE ORDERED TO DO!! Can we please go now! The character of this lady is obviously sufficient to be able to manage such an orphanage.“ Taarik says after being silent for a long time as she did not understand why all the team members are making things so complicated although the mission was so simple!
Taariik |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
”That is your interpretation Endor! We were supposed to investigate the character of the recipient. For me her character is fine!“ Taarik says a little annoyed.
GM Pathmaker |
"That's a good lad", Auntie takes the small chest with eager hands, "Well it's been nice to meet you and thank the Temple for me" She ushers the kids either back to chores or to play, then she disappears back into the house.
You gather altogether street side to compare notes and determine that the mission has been solidly accomplished. There is evidence of alcohol use by Auntie, obvious illegal child labor and perhaps some medicine pilfering. You head back to see Ollysta at Temple of the Shining Star.
You give your report, and though she sighs sadly with each issue you list, she thanks you graciously for the favor and promises that the Silver Crusade will look into things further and see if anything can be done to help protect Auntie Baltwin from her own greed and vices. Wishing you luck and health, she bids you farewell. She gives each of you a pouch of gold pieces.
PCs UP, what is the next destination?
Ito Sor |
Ito clops along on Goliath. He is a little troubled by the orphanage, but will trust the Silver Crusade to manage the situation.
Shall we go to this Osirian noble and speak with him. It is in the Wise Quarter, just over this way. he indicates the direction with a finger. He doesn't even really need to hold on to the reins as Goliath just stolidly plods on along the street in a steady determined way.
Maru Dasima |
"Now that we're away from the old lady," Maru says, replying to what Taarik says, "I would say her character is entirely unsuitable for caring for children. I don't care for children myself much, and I get the feeling she's of similar mind, but does it anyway to make a living. She drinks more alcohol than I'd call reasonable at this time of the day, and I don't like her aura, anyway. Looks greedy and deceitful."
