With her hands stil on his shoulders, Anzath starts pushing Talathel away from the teledisintegrator.
Lolygert " Lolly " Endeferr |
Lolygert pats Mone gently on the head, "Don't worry, Mon, ol' Lolly will be just fine..."
Then after taking a nice long pull at his flagon, he tips it over and allows the dregs to splash onto the floor. Hitching the drinking vessel to his belt, he pulls his sword from his back, rolls his shoulders and reaches out for the carving that had whisked Targershen away.
Before he touches it , he looks back at Adelie, the only one that was willing to go through with him, "See ya.." and presses his hand against the carving...
Aurora Fallowarc |
Aurora sighs, "If you truly must, Lolly, wait just a moment, I have a spell that will... assist us."
If the barbaricleric waits, Aurora will use Magical Epiphany to prepare a status and cast it on him. She'll tap Talathel with her second charge of it for funsies.
From Status — "You are aware of direction and distance to the creatures and any conditions affecting them: unharmed, wounded, disabled, staggered, unconscious, dying, nauseated, panicked, stunned, poisoned, diseased, confused, or the like. Once the spell has been cast upon the subjects, the distance between them and the caster does not affect the spell as long as they are on the same plane of existence. If a subject leaves the plane, or if it dies, the spell ceases to function for it."
Adelie |
Adelie meets Lolygert’s gaze.
”I hope we will see each other again, soon. Alive.”
He squints at the carving.
”Is the wizard-dust still in there? Maybe we should check that, first...”

Lolly disintegrates and is sucked into the hand-hole. Aurora's status reports that Lolly is alive, somewhere.
A minute or two has passed since Tragershen's departure. I will show you fear in a handful of dust: the hand opens again, this time pouring motes of matter into the refectory!
...but it's Tragershen!
Tragershen |
"It worked. It teleported me to a much larger library. But there was a guardian there, an elemental or celestial entity of some kind. As soon as I materialized, it moved to attack and I touched the trigger to return again. I believe we can-" Tragershen looks around. "Where is Lolly?"
Lolygert " Lolly " Endeferr |
Lolygert blinks, then gently touches his chest and says profoundly, "Whoa....
He looks around , "huh...books.." he observes, then sees the ball of light, "Oh, hi there!" he says cheerfully, but then steps back as it swoops to attack...
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Lolygert " Lolly " Endeferr |
"Ouch!!" Lolygert yells as the little orb zaps him.
He watches as it flies up out of reach, frowning, then looks about, "Where's Tragershen....and how do I get out of here?", looking for an twin of the carving he touched to get here...
Percpetion: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Anzath |
Anzath hears the sound of magic and turns her head to see Tragershen rematerialize. Her preventative hold on Talathel slackens, "Ok. Now ve kan go."
Aurora Fallowarc |
"Lolly went after you when you didn't return — you didn't see him while you were leaving?" Aurora shrugs. "He's alive and fine, still. We can either go after him, or trust him to come back on his own, depending on how dangerous you think that thing in there is."
Tragershen |
GM, did Tragershen know anything about the creature he saw in the other room? Knowledge check 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (1) + 12 = 13. That roll is if it is planes or religion. Add 3 if it is arcana, or subtract one if it is dungeoneering.
Edit: Not likely with that roll.
"Lolly is capable. Perhaps if he sees I am not there, he'll think to come right back as well. I materialized right next to another such carving. As soon as the creature advanced on me, I touched it to return. All told, I was there for perhaps three or four heart beats."
"I did not get a good look at the creature. I wasn't there long enough. But if it could not destroy me before I could return, I would hazard to guess that Lolly should be able to escape as well."
Talathel Rhuiren |
Talathel smiles. For him, broadly. And he is not rushing from Anzath's firm grasp.
"Welcome back, Tragershen. Your disappearance appeared to be a disintegration, with the subsequent likelihood that you had perished in front of us. But I am glad that is not the case. As Aurora asked, what is your assessment of that guardian? Will Lolly require our assistance?"
Tragershen |
"How long was I gone? When I was in transit, it felt like it took a long time. Perhaps as much as a minute each way."
"I'm not sure if it was still in the dungeon or not. It was a huge, circular room lined completely with bookshelves and cabinets. It was perhaps a hundred paces across. It had a domed ceiling with glowing silver text of holy writing."
Talathel Rhuiren |
"Around one and a half minutes. This is a potentially useful discovery. Teleportation of any sort often is."
Anzath |
Anzath draws her favored scimitar. The purple one. With evil undertones. Then places her left palm on the disinteporter.
Aurora Fallowarc |
"Perhaps only one can be in that... room... at a time? Or the carving needs time to recharge between uses."
Tragershen |
"Let's give Lolly some time. If I was gone for a minute or two, he should return by then as well. We can try it again later. Perhaps if we are touching each other, or touch it at the same time, we can go together."
He thinks a moment, and then adds "I did see another carving across the room when I was on the other side. If need be, we may be able to access it from one of the other carvings around the complex."
Talathel Rhuiren |
"Let us try linking hands, and going together."
Lolygert " Lolly " Endeferr |
Lolygert smiles at the others, waving away some of the smoke that slowly rises from his hair, "Little round critter zapped me!" before blinking at Talathel, "That's what I said, ain't it?"
Tragershen |
After someone gets a chance to tend Lolly's wound...
"Let's try both methods." He arranges everyone in two lines. The first is Tragershen, Talathel, Anzath and Bedlam, with Tragershen closest to the carving. The second is Aurora, Adelie, Mone and Lolly, with Aurora closest to the carving. We'll have each line holding hands (or something similar, if they want a weapon in one hand). Then Aurora and I will touch the carving at the same time. That should put Bedlam and Lolly closest to the enemy orb when we get to the other end.
Before they depart, the elf says "In case my description was too vague before, this orb does fly, and the room was more than ten yards high." He'll pause in case anyone wants to change the weapon they have ready, then nod to Aurora.
Does that sound like a good plan?
Anzath |
However they get there, when Anzath materializes in the library, she shouts, "Kome at me, orb!" and prepares to strike.

Each of you has an unusual experience: being dissolved! It feels like a haircut, but everything and everywhere at once. Doesn't hurt, except for little tugs. Then you are whisked through the hand into a distant room.
You find yourself reconstituted about 45 seconds later. You're in a large, circular room that contains more than enough cabinets and bookshelves to be considered a library (I'm embellishing the official map to make this more fun). The room's got about a fifty foot radius. You're standing on an edge of the circle. In the center is a ten-foot radius circle on the ground. The bookcases and cabinets are custom-made to hug the edge of the room. The ceiling is domed and shines back in silvery characters of holy scriptures. There's an identical hand carving directly across the room.
A small ball of light is floating in the center of the space. It swoops towards you.
Init Adelie and Mone: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 301d2 ⇒ 1
Init Anzath underground: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Init Aurora: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Init Bedlam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Init Lolly: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Init Talathel: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Init Tragershen: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Init Guardian: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Anzath's threat echoes around the room. The ball sends a lightning attack towards her:
touch attack bolt: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 281d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 152d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) + (5, 4) = 16
...the orb cometh after thee! It zaps Anzath in her face and knocks off her hood, leaving all of her flowing dark hair stands on end in a big poof.
All may act!
