Andracar, riding high on the heels of his most recent victory, smiles smugly at Shrec's statement. "Constant? We didn't even have to fight the last time, they were simply awed by my power."

![]() |

"I think it's a bad idea to split up."
"In a dungeon I would agree with you, but we are just a few citizens of Kintargo walking around. If we always stick together we quickly become identifiable as a group. There is risk in sticking together when we are trying to be subtle. Still, I will do whatever the majority of the group decides. My vote is for splitting up."

![]() |

"I can hold down the fort here, I am not one for intrigue of that nature. Also I don't want our dear friend Laria to miss me too terribly, she's absolutely smitten you know." Andracar smiles, blissfully unaware. He also has books to read and write and catalog.

![]() |

"Sure, I can go and scout the area Kavor. But if there is any threat there still I will send a message and will expect backup!"
Following the group's suggestion, Merisiel will go to the site to do some stealthy perception. Others are welcome to join, as this could be unsafe.

"I will be in the vicinity talking to people. I will use the wand of Disguise Self to hide my axe, so I will have it with me and can come help if needed.
Shrec, have you named our new recruit yet? He should probably stay here on guard duty. Hopefully he is growing fond of Laria and the others "

Yes, so it will be 1d4x6 charges to gather information, correct? That's okay, I guess. He can't provide much backup for Merisiel without his axe, but wandering around heavily armed just seems too suspicious. Kavor Doan will go talk to people.

GM PDK |

As most of you know by now, tieflings are treated as second-class citizens at best in Cheliax, and despite Kintargo’s progressive attitude, this prejudice is still rampant in the city. The majority of Kintargo’s tieflings never make it out of the city’s most notorious slum—the Devil’s Nursery. Here, tieflings are generally left to live their own lives without much interference, but those who dare to travel far from the area run the risk of facing harassment or worse. This toxic environment does little to give Kintargo’s tieflings a fair chance to rise out of the poverty into which they are born.
It is both an easy task to find the Devil's Nursery, as well as find out the sites of the recent murders- seven in total over approximately two weeks, and the last three in an astounding span of four days since the fourth one! The most recent and seventh murder having happened already two days ago, the locals fear that the eight murder is long overdue (in the sick eyes of the murderer), and everyone is anxious and apprehensive.
You find the locals incredibly helpful in this dire hour, and you are all quickly ushered to the site where the latest victim was found- in an alley near the southern wall of the city. The body was found by a young tiefling woman named Zea, NPCs updated and she immediately escorts you all to the latest crime scene to investigate it.
Marveling at your attires, she says, "You all appear to be proficient adventurers... I've never felt safest out in the streets..." Her chuckle appears forced, and her smile awkward, as if struggling to decide which emotion to put forward, but you can all feel her underlying anxiety and sadness. "Here. Near the wall there. The body was taken away, of course, to prepare it for the funeral... and... well... this is the Devil's Nursery. Kids play in these streets all day long, so I'm afraid there's probably not much left to find here that hasn't been disturbed in the last two days. But by all means, take a look around Sires... and Lady..."
What do you do?

![]() |

Kavor Doan will move around, asking if anybody saw anything. A possible glimpse of the murderer, a sign of some religious ritual or other, a note or letter. As well, he tries to dig up any rumors on the victims - any connection between them, any body parts taken, anything about unusual inquiries from the authorities.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Time in hours: 1d4 ⇒ 2 So 12 wand charges.

GM PDK |

I hate to see you waste all these wand charges Kavor; this is a combat-light part of the adventure and if impending combat approaches it will be plainly obvious- your are the hunters now and not the hunted (unless you 'want' to be the hunted... hehehe). May I suggest you stow your axe in your backpack or handy haversack instead?
While the rest of the party inspects the latest crime scene with Zeo, Kavor wanders the streets of the Devil's Nursery to ask questions. The locals are cooperative, and in less than two hours Kavor learns the locations of all the murders (including the most recent one the rest of the party is currently inspecting).

He does not yet have a Handy Haversack, and I would have thought a dwarven waraxe was too big to fit in a regular backpack. But if walking around as 'adventurers' really isn't suspicious (or even works to our advantage in the Devil's Nursery) then he will do that instead.

Andracar hangs out at the coffee shop, reading books and generally making merry with people who don't seem too offended by it. He leaves those who find themselves annoyed to their own devices.

GM PDK |

Andracar: I'm not sure what the effect of skipping out on an encounter will have on your chronicle sheet as we are playing this in PFS/Sanctioned Content only mode. Do you wish to revisit your decision to stay behind or do you wish me to look into the chronicle sheet mechanics of all this?

Kranzer takes a look around the area to see if he can't find something that was missed.
"'Ol Kranzer might be gettin' a whiff of nostalgia. Seems like every day we had a murder to solve in Kaer Maga. One time there was a crazed gargoyle scooping merchants up. Took forever ta track 'em down!"

![]() |

Technically speaking anyone who plays through either 2/3 or 3/4 of a session or more should be allowed full rewards. You had seemed to be indicating you wanted less than the full party to go along, so I was trying to acquiesce to that.

GM PDK |

Ok thanks for confirming the rule. I don't think I pronounced myself in favor of one option or the other- I'm just confirming that you guys are indeed splitting the party before I go on and run the full encounter. Please confirm. Not too late to change your mind.

If Kavor Doan has completed his investigations, he will meet up with the party again.

![]() |

Sure, I read that in Kavor's words and thought it was you somehow. My apologies.
Andracar gets a little listless and just so happens to go a-wandering. His wandering just happens to take him in the direction his allies had gone, though short stumpy legs do not get someone anywhere fast.

![]() |

"A tooth?! Maybe somebody got in a scrape, eh? Anybody that knows about such things able to tell what kind'a tooth this is? If it's from some person or some creature?"
Kranzer hands the tooth to anything that will take it.

Zea brings the group to the charnel house where the body of the latest victim has been laid to rest pending funerals.
Zea tells you that the tieflings are usually quick to cremate the bodies as they come up, for fear of them rising to become vengeful undead. However you are in luck as the family of the latest victim requested open sky funerals.
Examining the body, you quickly realize that the body’s face has been mutilated.

Not trained in Knowledge (Nature) so can't hit DC 15. Our party is generally lacking in skills - no Bluff, no UMD, and not a lot of Knowledge. Pretty much need a bard.

GM PDK |

Skills are a nice to have, but even without intel, you can move on to phase IV of this mission, i.e. 'catching the killer'. You guys just need tactics and a bit more focus/teamwork in general.

![]() |

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"Yeah, and look at the bite marks there. Little creatures? Maybe we go bring this stuff back to our hideout for that booklearner. Maybe he knows what these things are."

![]() |

"Good idea, Kranzer. Rexus or Laria might have some ideas. We know about some other killings, and we see that the teeth were removed, and all those small bites - maybe with some help we can put this together."

GM PDK |

Rexus tells you that this has the hallmarks of tooth fairy. Like many fey creatures, cold iron can get past their resistant skin. He says these things are small though, and shouldn't be able to kill people like that...
Once you return to the site, you see the tieflings running in the streets and closing shops early: another murder just happened.
What do you do?

![]() |

"This way!"
Kavor Doan (hopefully) leads the party racing to the site, looking for signs of the killer. Tracks, dropped teeth, anything like that.

GM PDK |

Kavor and the rest arrive at the scene. The corpse of an old lady lies there. All of her teeth were removed, and her face is a bloody mess. Several tiny bite marks are also on her neck, hands and ankles. Her fingernails have been removed as well.

![]() |

Sorry, busy weekend and week. I am back!
Merisiel, sensing Kavor's urgency, races along with him. She looks around for what could have done this to the old lady.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

![]() |

Not having knowledge of the fey, Andracar is a bit at a loss. They burn though, as far as he recalls, and would likely fall to a missile or seven.
"Is there a market for teeth? And isn't pulling nails a type of torture, would these tooth thingies do that also?" He considers, aloud.

GM PDK |

After discussing with Kavor and the locals, you manage to pin down a potential location for the killer, roughly located in the center of all the murder locations thus far. Zea tells you that this area corresponds to an abandoned tavern which has collapsed a few years ago due to its ancient nature and lack of maintenance.

As you approach you hear the laughter of fey creatures from a burrow leading under the collapsed building. The laughing stops as you get closer.
Medium creatures can squeeze into the hole with DC 20 Escape Artist; only one-handed and light piercing weapons possible; no bows, but yes loaded crossbows; no reloading of crossbows while squeezed in the hole though; small or smaller creatures can go into the burrow unhindered.

Kavor Doan could also try casting Alter Self to become Small, but would risk ASF right now with his armor on. Still, he has the one prepped one and also the 1/day bonded item spell, so between the two attempts he would probably make it.

Kranzer attempts to squeeze through the hole but gets stuck!
"To squeeze through or into a space less than half your space's width, you must use the Escape Artist skill. You can't attack while using Escape Artist to squeeze through or into a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty to AC, and you lose any Dexterity bonus to AC."
