When Garinol takes his sword to the statue, Omar winces.

"Is it really necessary to destroy a work of art like that?" he says, making his disapproval plain. "Though the subject matter may be lacking, still art shows that there is the possibility of redemption. They have not turned completely away from beauty."

Looking at the contraptions, Omar asks "Now that they are dismantled, can you tell us anything more about their vulnerabilities? It would be good to know, in case we meet more."

Ready to continue on when others are

Garinol looks at the other priest with confusion, uncertain if he is serious or the punchline went completely over his head. "Of corse we destroy idols dedicated demons, devils, and evil. One would not leave a pretty, but poisonous flower out for others to pick up? Or a deadly, but masterfully crafted weapon for a child to play with? Art is not redemption. Offering another soul another chance, an opportunity to walk a harder road is a gift. It requires someone to stand up to the darkness that surrounds the other like a deep black water, and thrust their ooen hand in, offering those that are blind and drowning a chance to help pick themselves up and see the blackness for what it is."

"Redemption is walking into the night to be with those lost in it's embrace, and showing them that everyone needs others to make it back out, if they want to, not making something that might look appealing, and be used for either helping or harming others. When somethings only purpose is to cause pain, or deception, or madness, that thing needs to be destroyed, so that others will not stumble upon it and harm themselves or others, physically or spiritually."

I enjoy philisophical and religious debates, so am interested if Omar or anyone wants to continue this while we wait to move on. If not, cool, but again, I think this is exactly the thing that makes a group of people thrown together develope bonds of trust and friendship. That doesn't mean you have to all agree.

Frowning, Omar recites "I will never destroy a work of art, nor allow one to come to harm, unless greater art arises from its loss. I will only sacrifice art if doing so allows me to save a life, for untold beauty can arise from an awakened soul."

He then explains "It is a part of the code we give our paladins. Today, you have prevented me from saving a work of art. If I were to raise a weapon in that way, I believe my goddess would strip me of the many blessings she has bestowed."

"The best way to handle the flower would be with a fence and a warning sign. To cut it down is to reduce the amount of beauty in the world. The poison is the flower's way to prevent it from getting eaten."

Yes, he would leave a pretty but poisonous flower alone.

"If you are going to destroy art, you need to replace it! Not all art is created equally, but still it can ignite the inner beauty that is in the soul. It encourages the artist to search out that beauty and show it."

Looking around, he says "I would greatly like to continue this discussion with you, but now is not the best of times. We have people we need to save." Including an artist!

Of course I would leave the poisonous flower. It does no harm simply by existing, just as that statue does no harm. What good as truly been accomplished by blotting out the image of Alichino? Would it not have been better to leave the statue along with the tale of the fate that awaits those who worship at it so that future generations may learn and not repeat such folly? But you're rash acts have only obfuscated the source of evil and taken away it's name and face. Now it will be easier for Alichino to slip back into obscurity to scheme anew, and when he has been forgotten, he will again be like the poison flower whose seeds take root and bloom once more yet none recognize it for what it is.

The vials hold scented oils.

The third of these small rooms also holds a small cage fitted with leather restraints and a rack on the wall displays several polished rods of various diameter.

Scent applies to your Survival check, Garinol. I forgot to tag it.

The arrangement of pillows and cushions in one corner suggest exotic arrangements of limbs and the participation of several partners at once. The statues in this room do not share the diabolic semblance of the one Garinol destroyed. The nude form of a young man stands in the corner, caught between contemplation and action. The image of a woman stands proud in one alcove. Wilted flowers and small jewels lie at her feet.

You do not see any of the costumes you noticed were missing among the wide variety of discarded clothing. You do recognize the scents. The women are the same noblewomen who were making comments about Basia at the Cloisoi Theater. You think the men attended the opera as well.

"Dark folk? I don't think so, but my employees did see some intruders this week and chased them off. One dropped his rucksack—it’s yours if you want it" He waves a hand and the man with the insignia turns back down the hallway. He returns quickly with a black leather bag.

Zeffiro's scorn turns into a condescending sneer, “Pathfinders think you can poke your noses wherever you want, taking whatever you please, leaving a trail of destruction in you wake. You should look to your own sins before casting aspersions on others. My agents followed the intruders back to their lair. Go back to your tacky lodge and ask your venture-captain who might have cause to snatch up Karcau’s citizens. If you find our missing star, I might be willing to forget this little intrusion of yours.” he assumes a confident pose, clearly expecting you to leave.

Looking to Lurgh, Omar says "Although I am sure there is deception involved with this case, I do not believe that Mr. Lesiege has tried to deceive us about what he knows. Let us be careful of casting aspersions before we are confident of what the real situation is."

Looking to Zeffiro, he says "So you believe the dark folk have once again found a way to the surface through Miregold Manor?"

I never implicated Lesiege in any of this. But I suspect we were meant to come here and we were meant to follow a trail back to the Manor. Wouldn't it be all too convenient for those who hate the Pathfinder Society for us return to our lodge and find the noble lady we were looking for murdered right there in our very lodge.

Zahra, is it possible for you to repeat your divination?

Let me show you vhat I saw vhen I scried, because perhaps you might recognize the stonevork or see something here that I missed?"Zahra casts a silent image of the vision she saw of Olivinia tied up, and the Dark Caller.

The stonework in the image is much less refined than the well-engineered basement you find yourselves in now. Dark and damp, it appears carved from a natural cavern.

Zahra holds the substance out to Faerunduil. "Can you tell us vhat this is, friend?"

Faeranduil takes the vial and examines the dried contents.

Know(dungeoneering): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (9) + 21 = 30

He rubs the black substance between his fingers, "This residue is a poison called black smear, one favored by dark folk for weakening enemies."

He tires of this. We best leave soon. Still, it would be good to make a point.

"As I understand it, it was other Pathfinder agents that found out what was happening in that case. They are the ones who stopped the dark folk." I will allow Garinol to decide if he steps forward and takes his share of the credit in that.

Looking to the group, he then says "Still, we best check this lead out as well."

If it leads back to those two in the swamp, at least then something would make sense.

I'm ready to call this a dead end and move on.

Less interested in recieving credit than perhaps helping to explain, "It is true, in the past, it was the Pathfinder Society's leadership that had dealings with the dark folk." And you will have to forgive me, this is one of the few scenarios I have played, but not run, and it has been years, so this might not be 100% accurate.

"From what we discovered, in what short time we had, was that the Society had failed to hold up their part of the bargain, whatever that bargain was, and the Darkfolk took it personally. But,. . . there was also politics involved, Pathfinder politics, and in the end, one Venture-Captain had to fall so that another could rise, . . . legitimately. And now, here we are. I doubt it was the swampers. They did not want to help us. They did not exect us."

"The ones who sent us here in the first place, the theater, the swampers, what other leads do we really have? We did not look to hard in thecsewers. Unless, well, there is really only one place that the Darkfolk come from, that I know of. . ." But going back there seems like it should be outside the scope of this scenario.

"Where did Miregold Manor come in to this? And where is the manor. " he asks, to both the "host" of the evening, and the rest of the team.

It's odd. From what I recall, from what I recall of The Darkest Vengeance, and it has been a while, there had been two Ustalavian Lodges and Venture-Captians; Basia Kalistoff and Skeldon Miregrold.

Basia was Sheldon's cousin or some relation, but viewed him as a rival and did not like what he was doing with his lodge. It's not entirely clear exactly how much of this was an excuse for a power play, but this was only the set up for the scenario, not the focus, per se. We where sent in to basically investigate Venture-Captain Miregrold and "aquire" his research. Miregrold Manor was his personal home, as well as the official Lodge of Karcau. While that might contain small spoilers for that scenario, this is all in the set up, so I'm less concerned about it spoiling things. Once we got there <things happened>.

At the end, Basia assumes control of Miregrold Manor, which is very strange in my opinion, and is what I was referring to by "politics". Pathfinders are sent in to investigate another Venture-Captain (Sheldon), by a rival Venture-Captain (Basia, who has a personal, not professional dislike), who then somehow strips the first of their personal home somehow and sort of rushes the team out This is why I'm not 100% trusting her. (Not saying she is lying or evil, just that there might be ulterior motives at play here). It was also a little strange that beneath Miregrold Manor, there was a secret pathway directly to the Darklands that just seemed to be left wide open, as far as we knew.

I'll explain this in character to the party as well, I just didn't want to state the same things twice, and felt OOC might serve better if something is slightly off.

Trusting her husband's judgment, Zahra comes to a decision, trusting her gut. She curtseys deeply to Zeffiro Lesiege. "I think then that ve may be in error coming here. The stonevork does not match; this lord has been nothing but honest and forthcoming vith us. The clues must lie elsevhere. Lord Lesiege, thank you so much for your understanding and for your time. You have been most helpful."

Zahra gives Lesiege a dazzling smile, and then whistles to her tiger. "Pumpkin, let us go. Ve shall bother this man no further." Then she holds out a hand to Omar and nods to the others. "Come. Maybe ve vill find the clues ve seek at the lodge itself."

With a sweep of her skirts, she starts walking out of the manor like the Keleshite princess she is.

Once the group has left the Eylusia Building, Omar says "We should talk to Basia before trying to find those passages you spoke of Garinol. If she is not part of the abductions, she may have useful information. If she is part of them, it is better to know before attempting the rescue."
