The shadow is not evil, nor is it summoned. The two dark stalkers are shadow dancers, and the shadow is a companion.

oops, Garinol doesn't have a light, so he could read the note
Garinol enters the shadowy kitchens and plucks the note from the door. It reads, Who did you abduct to earn our vengeance?
He opens the door to which the note is attached and finds a small pantry. This pantry is in a state of disarray. It is obvious that it once contained shelves filled with dried foods, canned goods, and bags of root vegetables. However, something has torn several of the shelves off the walls, littering the floor with broken jars and wooden planks. A concealed door that the shelves once obscured now hangs open, revealing a stone staircase beyond. The way in which the debris is arrayed suggests someone broke down the door from inside the stairwell. A scrap of paper lies atop the wreckage.
When Garinol returns, Omar releases a wave of healing energy. The dark folk stirs awake, his face a mix of fear and anger. "Don't kill me! Zodarna is out for revenge. She made us do it."
