Ithad Thrune |
Ithad, upon hearing Franco's surname and recognizing a noble house wracks his brain on what he can remember.
Knowledge (Nobility): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
As he sorts his thoughts, Ithad pipes in with, "How where you recruited?"
GM/Lictor Lane |
We'll assume the changes for Moondark/Satinal and Jo/Coran. I'll update the map later today since I'm mobile right now.
You've never heard of a Franco Nymmis. The House is beholden to House Khollarix. The patriarch of the House is the aging Benedict Nymmis and you know of at least two sons, Maximilian is well-thought of and poised to be the future leader of the House. His younger brother is Philippe, who fell out of favor some time ago as a result of some scandal.
You all continue through the tunnels, hearing and seeing no signs of Hellknights or creatures. From the light coming through occasional grates, you can see that it is nearly dark, but guided by Coran and Franco, you find yourselves back on track toward the safe house.
From the city above, you hear the deep tones of the curfew bells ringing out. There is one hour until sunset.
Coran Ven den Heuvel |
Coran looks at the large man the calls him a little boy wondering if it would be worth correcting him or just continuing on to the safe hoping Janiven made it back ok. Then he looked at the speaker. "We weren't there for long but it seemed to defensible."
Ithad Thrune |
Upon hearing the curfew bells, Ithad stretches out towards one of the grates.
"By Asmodeus's forked beard I cannot wait to be free of this oppressive crypt. Let us not tarry in case the shadows prowl below the streets as well as above."
Ugh, Mondays! Obviously I can't read today.
Ithad Thrune |
Ugh, Mondays! Obviously I can't read today. What I meant to say was:

I'm Jo |
GM - what is happening? We have not had a significant GM posting since Saturday. Is this going to pick back up or fall apart? I am hoping this picks back up as we have a good group of players.
GM/Lictor Lane |
You're fortunate. Between the guidance of Coran and Franco, you are able to find markings at a number of intersections or take advantage of their memory to move past ones without.
But, night continues to fall and you begin to despair of finding the safe house before nightfall. You find yourselves moving down a long, straight corridor when you hear a man's scream cut off abruptly someplace up ahead and brief sounds of fighting, then silence.
Alarra Dayne |
"That's my cue, I guess," Alarra whispers. "I'll sneak ahead and see what's up. If you hear me shout 'oh crap,' or any variation on that theme, come running."
With that, Alarra sneaks off into the darkness, crossbow at the ready.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Do I find anything?
GM/Lictor Lane |
Perception 1 1d20 ⇒ 20
Perception 2 1d20 ⇒ 6
Perception 3 1d20 ⇒ 3
You creep up into the darkness, ahead you can see that the corridor opens up slightly and appears to take a sharp turn to the left. Within, you can see three shapes hunched over at least as many corpses. One of them lifts its head and looks straight at you. It rises, tattered rags shifting as it comes to its full height and begins moving toward you.
Initiative for Alarra 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Initiative for GM 1d20 ⇒ 7
Your move Alarra.
Alarra Dayne |
From the distance, you hear Alarra scream "Ohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshitohshit!" and the splashing of water as she runs back to the group.
"Corpses and... and... freaky things!" She gasps when she rejoins the others, "Dead ahead!"
Yeah, no training in knowledge: religion (probably the appropriate skill)...
GM/Lictor Lane |
From out of the darkness, three shambling corpses appear...

Satinal looks at the creatures, "What the..." He draws his dagger and casts it at the foremost monster.
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Damage 1d4 ⇒ 3
The dagger flies true, right into the creatures eye...and it keeps moving toward you seemingly unharmed.
I'm Jo |
Sorry you were sick. Hope your feeling better.
Jo will move through Alarra's square if she allows and attack the first thing he can.
Swing:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage:1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
*CRUNCH!*
Coran Ven den Heuvel |
Welcome Back GM/Lictor, hope you are feeling better.
Coran looks at the oncoming creatures wondering what type of abomination they might be.
Knowledge Religion 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Coran is getting ready to cast Guidance for a +1 to Attack on Moondark it lasts a minute.
GM/Lictor Lane |
Thanks, hopefully after a good night of sleep tonight and a day of sitting around watching football all day tomorrow...
I'll retcon if Ithad's actions require.
Jo's hammer crushes into the monster. He can feel it's ribcage crush in with the force of his blow. The creature bends to it's side, but incredibly, stands back up and looks like it is ready to keep coming. Up close, the stench of the creature is overwhelming. Unlike the goblins which merely smelled of filth...this creature smells like death.
Moondark has no clue what the creatures are, but manages to pull out her vial.
They are zombies. Which bit of useful info would you like to recall? Also, do you want to declare who you're going to use guidance on? You can change it up until I get to your turn.
Ithad Thrune |
Taking aim with the crossbow at the one Jo is engaged with, he lets the bolt fly.
Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 - 2 = 8
"Hell has nothing to do with these, just a paltry necromancer's trick." Ithad responds as he slings away the crossbow and prepares to draw his rapier.
GM/Lictor Lane |
Ithad's bolt misses the zombie, taking a chunk out of the nearby wall and then dropping to the floor.
Franco steps up to stand side-by-side with Jo, swinging his flail at the monster. Using Combat Expertise
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Damage 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Franco's flail strikes the creature's shoulder with a sickening crunch. You can see the bones from it's collarbone jut through it's skin. But impossibly, the creature continues to advance.
The creature standing next to Jo and Franco thrashes out at Jo.
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
It's flailing limbs glance off Jo without doing any significant damage.
A second creature rushes up to slam into Franco.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Franco deftly steps to the side dodging the creature's blow.
Coran shouts out his warning about the zombies and casts a spell. Moondark feels a surge of confidence come over her.
End of Round 1
GM/Lictor Lane |
Franco Nymmis |
Franco lets the Flail fall out of his hand as he weaves to avoid the attack. He swiftly unsheathes his short sword from his side and brings it to bear against the zombie, snarling his teeth he offers a nonchalant glance at Jo in the midst of the chaos" Is that smell this guy or your breath big guy?"
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Ithad Thrune |
Ithad will approach Jo carefully, with his rapier readied to give over to Jo.
"Here Jo, take my blade it should be sufficient to the task on hand!" Ithad says while offering the barbarian the blade.
After Jo takes the rapier, Ithad move a suitable distance back and start to reload his crossbow.
Moondark |
Ariel moves up next to Alarra, hearing Ithad she notes, "The halfling said blades, not pokers. Hack 'em up til they stop moving." Then she lobs the alchemist fire overhead toward the rear zombie.
guided PB touch attack 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 13
damage 1d6 ⇒ 6 fire
GM/Lictor Lane |
Alarra fires her crossbow at the zombie, but misses badly. Ithad moves forward offering his rapier, only to be rebuffed by Jo. He moves back preparing his crossbow.
Jo slams his hammer again into the zombie. This time he lands a crushing blow into the zombie's pelvis and it drops to the floor, motionless.
Moondark lobs her alchemist fire over all combatants. Miraculously she manages to get it all the way to the zombie in back where it explodes in a fiery blast that momentarily consumes the zombie in flame.
Franco drops his flail to switch to his sword, but in the process overcompensates and merely slams the flat of his blade into the zombie where it does no harm.
The zombie in front of Franco slams it's arms down on him attempting to smash him into the floor.
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Fortunately for Franco, the same awkward move that caused him to miss the zombie also carries him outside the zombie's planned attack and the zombie misses awkwardly, nearly falling into the sewage channel.
The flame-scorched zombie charges forward to slam into Jo.
Attack 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
omg, these guys can't roll worth anything
Somehow the zombie manages to slam into the wall first and then harmlessly glances off Jo, its momentum spent.
Coran, I think you're only option is Guidance on someone again so if so, just let me know who or if you want to try something else, I'll retcon the action
End of Round 2

When Jo's turn comes he will swing at the flaming corpse in front of him.
