Ugh. I wish you guys held the line instead of charging forward. I'd have been able to use Entangle to pin them down and split them into smaller groups. As it is, I'd be preventing Calder (and possibly Kolung, unsure what his movement features are) from retreating should he need to, so that's out for now.

It's not too vital now, but as we accumulate more (and nastier) aoe (cloud spells, fireball, etc), stopping enemy melee attackers from entering our ranks will get increasingly important.

Okay, I'll post combat over to the top of round 2 in a couple of hours. My heart isn't into it enough right at the moment. However, I'd like to bring something up.

Kikiri's player messaged me to say that he's sorry and that he has to drop out. So I have a question: Should we get someone else or continue on with 4 people?

Ahhh, that's too bad. When I heard kobold I was skeptical but Kikiri (and Kolung) were fun characters.

Maybe Kikiri dies in this combat (or shortly thereafter)? It's hard to imagine him losing interest or leaving Ameiko's service for any reason short of death.

Someone with more divine magic sounds fine to me, though I think we'd get by OK with a wand + Clara's extracts if we need to.

Trying out the "pre-post in a spoiler" trick:

Clara's attack:
Clara gives a small, "Yelp!" as the burly Ulfen raider charges toward her.

She takes a step backward, hollers "Heads up, Calder!", and lobs another fizzy pop toward one of his assailants. This bomb doesn't give off noxious smoke like the previous one did, but still explodes in an impressive spray of green flame (which somehow burn everyone beside the warrior, except for Calder).

bomb+inspire courage vs touch: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 1 = 19

damage+inspire courage: 3d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) + 4 + 1 = 14

Free: 5' step as shown on map.
Move: draw a tanglefoot bag from her haversack.
Stnd: fire bomb as shown on map. Deals 14 (no save) to the warrior in the center of the radius. Deals 8 splash damage to the other two in the area (DC 16 Reflex for half dam on the two splash attacks). Using Precise Bombs to keep from splashing anything in Calder's square.

Irissa, if you *are* looking for a new target, I'd love to bomb one of the folks beside Calder since he's badly injured. If you can deal with the raider attacking Clara, Clara will keep bombing the front lines (where her splash damage will help at least a bit as well).

Otherwise, I can certainly bomb the one in front of me.

Current statuses for all PCs can be found in the campaign info tab. Calder is currently at 8hp.

The other guards, along with Shalelu, Sandru and Koya, are all engaged with a second group of raiders. I don't plan on having a whole pack of allied NPCs available to you for a vast majority of combats. It just turns into a f$*%ton of minis available. However, they're there, and they are available to bail you out should you fail the combat. I think you're fine, though.

Errr. I had no reason or grounds to tell him to stay until they actually began to withdraw. It would've looked very bizarre if I started talking to the charmed guy instead of focusing on the fight with Calder and Kolung being as screwed as they were. Didn't need to, either, since it's possible to speak out briefly outside of one's turn as far as I remeber.

It mostly burns down to whether getting him to stick around required a charisma check and how high.

Hey, I'm back with a couple of things to mention:

For Tallak! Name your bear, yo. It's your companion. Also, your hit points seem to have been miscalculated. You get 8 for level 1, 5 for each level afterward, plus 12 for favored class and Con. That's a total of 35.

Also, when it comes to posting rates, I hope you guys are fine with me just posting the situation forward every couple of days. I'm gonna start doing that, and if you didn't take the days you had to roll a check or respond, I'll just assume you didn't have anything you wanted to contribute. When it comes to some rolls, I'm considering rolling some of them for you... especially Perception and Sense Motive.

Gah, should've checked in yesterday evening, too, the travel post was up early enough.

@leinathan, how safe is the city? Would Irissa need armed escort to go pub and brothel crawling? Also, what are the housing options if we're settling separately?

Calder seems to have reputable sources mostly handled, so I'm thinking of landing somewhere in the grey area of dubious legality and making friends to fish for shadier rumours. We're still hauling those drugs, are we not? Maybe I'll find us a buyer. Or find means to earn some money to spend on magic items.

Clara is ill suited to gathering info but will happily trot along with Irissa and/or Rae and provide (ahem) "muscle". I like Irissa's idea to try to handle our cargo. Also, perhaps we look for a guide, since our Ulfen party members are looking for leads on the katana and our assailants?

Also...anyone hear from Rae since her post on Aug 20? I just took a look at their other games and don't see posts there either since Aug 24 (including ones they are DMing). Hopefully they're OK.

Also...is Kikiri still with us? (I know he's no longer a PC, but wondering if he's wandering off or still with us? Based on his backstory, I can't quite picture him leaving for anything less than having died...or perhaps being banished by Ameiko for some injustice he does.)

The city is safe in that you can expect the guards to intervene in any dispute before you die, and there's quite a few guards. However, Irissa probably won't have to worry about being assaulted or anything unless there's somebody here she's f!**ed with in the past, or if she can't deal with all these big muscly Ulfen men hitting on her.

There's a lot of taverns and such in the city, everything from expensive bordellos to cheap inns with bed-buggy beds. Calder could stay with his family, probably. You could also stay with the caravan if you want to, but Sandru said it might be a bad idea.

I haven't heard from Rae, no. I'll go ahead and PM her player, see what's up. I've been playing with him for years now, and he's never been particularly active.

Kikiri is still with you. I know I haven't had him chip in or anything, but I moved him over to NPC Allies in the campaign info doc. I do have a plan for getting him out of the picture though.

Sure! You can get paid, but only by betting money of your own and getting your opponent to bet the same amount.

As for the Hall of Splendid Valor, it's a gorgeous pillored common room designed to look like Heaven. It's got gorgeous Ulfen women lounging around on couches or dancing up on stages, and men come in and say "yeah i want that one".

As for the bordello, I'd say that you earn 10gp plus tip, and the rest of the money goes to the Hall itself.

Tallak only spent an hour doing his Gather Information check, so even if Irissa rolls a 1 on the d4 hours thing to see how long she took, its pretty much up to Tallak to decide what he wanted to do after he was done gathering information.

Whoops, accidentally posted in wrong thread. Correcting.

Clara turns to Rae and Kikiri, "What do you say we go looking for someone who knows the way over the Crown of the World? You can be diplomatical and I can...ummm...help some?"

My thought is to go for a scholarly district or school, if such exists...or else to merchants who might know of someone who has brought wares over the Crown.

As they begin to ask around, Clara does her best to chip in helpfully...but she starts getting bored and distracted quickly and doesn't turn out to be that helpful. Whenever she sees a plant or mineral that's new to her, she stops and sniffs and scrapes it (forcing her companions to wait for her to catch up). It's obvious her attention tilts far more toward new alchemical ingredients than toward navigation.

Aid Gather Info: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

K. Nature: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
