Playing a little conservatively with the chase rules at the moment.
Who woulda thought the speed demon racer would hold back in a motorcycle chase :P
'Cross' |
I mean, I could layer on the madness and whip through the streets like a bat out of Hell but I’d much rather savor the experience

As for why he's babying Maldor and Emily just a tad it's due to a sense of scale, he basically sees them as kids right now because he's more than 10 times their age, also because he's yet to see how well they can actually handle themselves. I mean so far the scariest thing Mal has done was point a broomstick at him.

I added a list of 15 known languages to the campaign info tab, just in case you wonder when you take Cultures ranks. I'll add more when they come up. Please, if any of you have any info that you think you might need to refer to regularly, let me know and I can add it to the campaign info tab.
I wanted to ask, just in case anyone is uncomfortable with it: I like to use replacement languages so that we can type in other languages in the gameplay tab. Like, when you speak in Russian, you Google Translate into Russian and include a "russian" spoiler tab. Are you guys okay with it?
Also, I wanted to ask about the basic structure of the campaign, so that as I'm writing I can be informed of the kind of game you want to play. I have two basic options:
#1 - After your group's unification and escape from Earth, we move into something like an episodic bunch of adventures for awhile. Go to different weird planets, solve mysteries, meet weird aliens, etc.
#2 - After your group's unification and escape from Earth, we move into a MAIN QUEST STORYPLOT, solving the mystery of and dealing with the ramifications of the psychics' escape.
There will be a bit of both in both options, but I wonder which you guys want.
ALSO I want to say! Great job writing so far you guys! I'm liking this a lot.
Maldor Brock |
From my perspective, I could see a mix (that may not be helpful to you trying to plan this out, I know... =)
As the group escapes, they would want to escape the hunters, have to earn credits for food and fuel, and of course find out bits and pieces of the mystery (and sinister plot?) behind the experiments and the escape. Like a good game of Mass Effect, or a great TV series, we could have an underlying storyline with other adventures added in.
That said, if I have to choose one of the two options, then I like #2 more.
I also like the "spoiler" option for other languages and have used that extensively in the past. Do the Lashunta have a language? I'm trying to determine what he may have learned in the station. English he already knew. Chinese makes sense because of their work with genetics and gene manipulation now...I thought either Lashunta or maybe Shirren because of the nature of the experiments.
Thanks!!

I'm with him on this one, escape into major storyline with frequent side-missions sounds like fun to me. Also maybe if we are lucky we could get an Illusive Man or other figure to actually pay us for all this? xD

That'd be cool. What languages would you be subbing in for the various alien languages?
Smyrna Stephanides |
I'm down for the language thing, it's a neat advantage of an online campaign.
I'm also for jumping into something unifying along the #2 route, before doing more sidequests. Like, a lot of sidequests. I seriously love sidequests.
Jin the Researcher |
presumably a comm can take conference calls right? after all they are basically like high end smartphones or tablets i think
'Cross' |
I'm fine with either plan, though having a consistent external pressure keeping the group together would probably be best.
therealthom |
Or maybe an external vacuum will keep us together?
While, we're talking about the language thing, which I'm fine with by the way, how do we want to handle telepathy. Italics are kind of classic, but italics are good for other things too, like internal monologue. I tried bold italics in the game thread for mental speech, but was underwhelmed by the effect.
MLE-1138 |
I like the language idea, and I agree that a mix of 1 and 2 would be great. The typical TV "adventure of the week" formula, with the overarching plot as a framework, is a lot of fun.
And maybe something like {Babbly, babble, bracketed psychic brainspeak...} or ~This squiggle thingy!~ instead quote marks for telepathy?

Oh i just thought you might be interested, theres an octopus construct icon here on the site. Incase you ever make Tay a seperate Alias.

I have a list of various languages that look cool:
Arabic, Welsh, Romanian, Amharic, Marathi, Azerbaijani, some more. I would assign them individually after I got approval.
Quick question, whats Auclo? I saw it in the list in Campaign Info and I don't recognize that one.
Jin the Researcher |
In Starfinder, Aklo is the language spoken on the planet of Aucturn. However, it is also the language spoken by insane interstellar monsters and evil fey in Pathfinder, so I thought a simple spelling change would help differentiate them.
At least, in base starfinder that's because it IS Aklo, because Aucturn is the cthulhu world of eldritch horrors. :P
Also, on an unrelated note what season is it?
Jin the Researcher |
Btw just so you know, if Jin were in the room Emily probably would actually be able to tell there's two minds in his head and even read Cassius (though his thought processes would be very strange), due to his mostly biological nature. There's actually very little seperating him from being a normal mind in a biological sense, he just sorta piggybacks off of Jin for a lot of the more basic stuff.
Jin the Researcher |
At the moment she hasn't picked up yet. Depending on what she says he could end up physically entering scene or not.
therealthom |
One thing I like about Starfinder is that medicine is a soldier class skill. It always killed me that Pathfinder/pre-4 D&D, didn't offer the guy most likely to get hurt (fighters) the chance to know something decent about mundane healing. Who had a better incentive to learn?
Jin, & Company, I deliberately didn't specify that Amaryst closed the comm link with Cassius. She might have forgotten in the heat of the moment. I'll let you play it however you want.
I expect she'll be coming to Jin real soon with a request for help in any case.
Jin the Researcher |
@MLE Are you cool with me fast forwarding a bit in the Cassius narration and just say that he sat there and guided you through some basic info about the city we are in?
@therealthom Jin is not listening in at this point, but currently Cassius has neither called the police nor hung up. He's just listening.
It's a good thing he was designed to help Jin multitask lol.
Jin the Researcher |
No offense, H. Chalk it up to Jin's squeaky clean millionaire playboy philanthropist image.
I was aiming for a little more Mordin Solus as opposed to Bruce Wayne lol. Oh well. xD
leinathan |
Hey all, I've designed Amaryst's starship, as I expect you all will be making use of it at some point. It won't be comfortable for everyone, because it wasn't designed to be, but it has some cool features!
It is a Tier 3 Shuttle. For those of you with the Core book, this may interest you. I can explain what some of it means?
Shuttles are Small, with perfect maneuverability, 35 hp, one weapon mount, and 3 expansion bays. They can be piloted by only one person, but have four crew spots.
Thrusters: S10 (10 hexes per movement - the fastest with no maneuverability penalty for their size)
Weapons: One forward-facing EMP cannon (glitches one system in the struck ship at random)
Quarters: Four luxurious quarters, with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, comfort amenities and good aesthetic
Shields: Basic 20 shields (20 points of shielding, distributed between four quadrants of the ship)
Armor: Zero, zip, don't get hit!
Drift Engine: Signal Booster (a tier 2 engine; twice as fast as the tier 1 engine!)
Sensors: Advanced Medium-Range Scanners (they have a range of 10 miles and provide a +4 bonus on checks made to scan things)
- - -
Expansion Bays
- - -
Recreation Suite (trivid den) (a place to hang out, relax, and watch some vids!)
Life Boats (two life boats fit for two people each. Basic thrusters capable of maneuvering to a nearby planet, landing, and enough food to support both people for 15 days)
Smuggler Compartment (cargo bay hidden within the ship capable of transporting 10 tons of cargo. Perception or Computers necessary to notice it)
- - -
Extras
- - -
Biometric Locks (only a set number of people are allowed to enter the ship - currently only Amaryst, though she has control of the ship's computers and so can edit that list)
Anti-Hacking Module (Add +4 to the DC to hack the ship's computers)
Mk 2 duonode computer upgrade (Add a +2 bonus to any two checks during starship combat per round)
Jin the Researcher |
One thing I'd like to note, the EMP Cannon is kinda.. well.. bad. Without another weapon to break shields it is likely completely useless against any ship we would need it against (because shields negate it entirely). A laser net might be a better option.
