As Maurit tells her story, revealing the details of her fate, she seems to find a calm.
"We were exploring the Cairnlands and discovered this new entrance here. Venturing within we explored the chambers for a time. We drove off kobolds, and some other humanoid creature that can change the color of its skin. Then we encountered something else. It caught us by surprise, and I fell to its claws. The others fled with the monster in close pursuit. They left me for dead..." Her eyes turn distant and sad for a moment, then her head twitches and her shoulders hunch, the smokey eye gleaming at your group. "But I awoke. I can tell you more. Secrets, dangers. All I ask is that you take me with you."
Adamus Vintersten

Adamus raises an eyebrow as Taurus gives him the nickname."I think we should show some compassion here. Besides, if she can help us, so be it. But if she turns on us, I will be the first to send her back to the Ice Queen. And when this is over, one way or another you won't be cursed anymore." He says that last part with some uncharacteristic seriousness while looking at Maurit.

Maurit's eyes dart back and forth between the members of your group as you discuss what to do. Talk of bringing her along elicits an almost giddy smile with enthusiastic nods "Yes, yes! I can help!" Mention of finishing her off causes her to twitch and hunch her shoulders. "Please, please. PLEASE!"
I'll move on when someone decides exactly how to handle her.
Adamus Vintersten
|
"Fine. Taurus, give me your rope and I'll bind her." Assuming the bull of a man does so, Adamus uses it to tie Maurit's hands together.
"Lead the way. Don't make me regret trusting you." He says to her.
Curraine Bahmler

Are any of you scratching your chin? I don't like her story. Why would another team of Pathfinders have been sent here? Why would we be sent if a previous team had been sent and hadn't returned?
Yelling over to Adamus, Ask her when her team was dispatched to this area. Ask her what the current date is. Something is fishy about her jive ass story
Curraine Bahmler

Curraine really starts looking Maurit up and down. Do her clothes look old and tattered or new? Is she wearing a pathfinder patch? Is she carrying anything? Any gear or weapons?
Take Ten if time allows. If not Perception check straight up.
Perception check - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Wow, these rolls are sucking right now.

"Yes, I can help..." The woman mutters, her voice trailing off into whispers. Licking her lips, she sizes up Adamus as he binds her hands with a look not too much different then those given by the Paracountess Zarta. Twitching her head suddenly, she repeats herself. "I'll help. I can draw you a map, and I know of a secret entrance."
Maurit doesn't wear any Pathfinder symbols. You were told by Amara that a group of Pathfinders found this ruin, though the details of their visit were not given. Curraine still hasn't revealed his knowledge of Maurit's curse to the others. Also, he's pretty certain that her condition is not reversible. It's only a matter of time before she succumbs to the undead urges of being a ghoul.

Once Maurit is bound, Curraine will come down off the rocks and go directly to Taurus. Pulling Taurus aside and in low hushed tones so Maurit cannot hear, Curraine explains, Bro, she's an undead. Or almost completely an undead. And there's nothing I can do to save her. I need you to take charge of Maurit once she's bound so I can give Adamus the skinny. I think he should know and he should be the one to ease her suffering.

Maurit draws a map of the interior, then leads your group around the south side of the cliff and up a small chute to an opening hidden in the shadows beneath an overhang. After a short twisting passage, created by either a burrowing creature or shifting earth from the quakes that are common in the Cairnlands, you come to an opening leading to a worked stone chamber. Cracked and crumbling frescos line the walls of the large empty room. The sections of the frescos not destroyed by the passing ages show Qadiran men engaged in battle. A rough stone tunnel leads off to the northwest, as if the ground simply cleft in two ages ago. A pile of bones rests just inside the passage.
I need a marching order please.

Taurus considers the elf's words carefully, "Very well."
"Adamus", the massive barbarian calls out. "I will handle her. You and Curraine take the lead."
Marching Order: Adamus, Curraine, Taurus (with Maurit), Falyf, Haris. Sound good to everyone?

Once Taurus takes possesion of Maurit, Curraine pulls Adamus aside. Bro, she's already lost. I cannot cure her and it's only a matter of a couple tick tocks before she'll be trying to eat us. She IS a ghoul. I think once she get's us to the secret enterence she should be put out of her misery. If you have a problem with that let me know. I'll make sure her suffering ends quickly
Adamus Vintersten
|
"A ghoul, huh? Alright then. If there is nothing we can do for her, then I will put her out of her misery myself." Adamus replies to the elf.
Once the group gets to the entrance, he pulls her aside and away from the group. "It seems that we cannot help you with your condition. You are a danger and a threat to us and others. All I can do for you is to send you to Pharasma's realm so you can find peace." He says while looking in her eyes. He raises his hammer and brings it down on her.
I'll roll the attack and damage roll if you want me to.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 1) + 9 = 12
Haris Hawkson
|
With all the whispering and chattering back and forth, Haris hadn't completely grasped the entire dilemma of Maurit. He had only caught the 'map', 'rope' and 'ghoul', and was content with being put last in line. The next thing he knew, Adamus is bringing his holy hammer down on her brain pan. "What the Falyf!", he squeals at the sudden violence, expecting a spray of gore and a twitching corpse.

Since you explained what you were planning to do, I'm going to say we need initiative rolls for those aware of Adamus' intention - Curraine, Adamus, and Maurit. After rolling the order for the surprise round are Maurit, Curraine, then Adamus.
Unfortunately, Curraine's words are a little premature...
As Adamus finishes his speech and begins to raise his hammer, Maurit's head teitches violently, recognition of danger flashes in a hateful glare and bared teeth elongated and sharp as razors. One moment she is a cowed prisoner, the next she is sinking her deadly teeth into the ropes around her wrists and ripping them free with a furious shake of her head. Twisting away, she also manages to avoid Adamus' attack.
Curraine and Haris are up, but everyone please go ahead and declare actions.
Surprise Round Initiative
Adamus 1d20 ⇒ 12
Curraine 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Maurit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Maurit bites bindings - Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Round 1 Initiative
Falyf 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
Taurus 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Haris 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Initiative Order
Haris
Maurit
Falyf
Curraine
Taurus

Taurus draws his weapon and calls out to Adamus, "Can you handle her?"
"Yea, she just seems to be a little quicker than I thought. I have this under control, Kurgess willing. I'll let you know if it changes."

We're waiting on Haris before I continue.
On a side note, Curraine knew she was a recently turned ghoul, but didn't share that information until after she was bound and gave information, such as drawing a map (which she couldn't have drawn with hands behind her back). The details where there, just not put together.

Maurit lunges at Adamus with claw and bite. Only one claw slips through his defense and finds a gap in his armor, leaving a bloody set of lacerations. 5 Damage.
Claw 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Hit
Claw 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Miss
Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Miss
Claw damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Paralysis Save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 Success

Maurit flinches from Curraine's freezing icicle, then takes a mighty blow to the face from Adamus' earthbreaker. She reels back on her feet, but manages to stay on them. Growling she turns her bloody face back towards him, now half-torn away to reveal muscle, bone, and sharp jagged teeth in a gaping hole where the flesh was torn away. "Betrayer!" She gasps, her words mangled but still intelligible. "I'll devour your heart!"
Adamus, it looks to me like your damage bonus is off. Since no smite or power attack was declared, it should be +6, correct? Regardless, it's not enough to drop her. Is anyone else attacking?

Thanks. To avoid confusion, please declare the use of feats or abilities every round, regardless of what natural state your attacks fall under. And as a side note, I was confused because I calculate your attack at +5 to hit while using power attack (+1 base attack, +4 strength, +1 masterwork weapon, -1 power attack). Perhaps an earlier version had weapon focus, but the character sheet under your name does not.
