Valaria Alazario |

Val calmly moves aside, waking over to the girl and grabbing her arm. "I'll handle this. Kill them! Prove your strength for the glory of lord Baphomet!"

Hrut Ingvarson |

Hrut runs to the nearest foe with shield up and warhammer ready to strike.
"This city has not fallen yet! While one loyal crusader still fights it has not fallen!"
Charge#3/Damage: 1d20 + 8 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 - 1 = 12Charge, graze 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

GM Kiora |

The tiefling appears to leave himself open. But as Hrut lunges forward, his weapon appears from nowhere and parries the attack. He grins at Hrut with feral anticipation, circling around him. He takes a swing, but the towering crusader twists away from the strike.
tiefling #3 vs Hrut: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Ary is up.

Ary Bishop |

Ary watches as Hrut charges in, and frowns slightly; that wasn't how she thought things were going to go. Oh well. She had to choose between luring the cavalier and Tiefling away and guarding Hrut's flank from the other Tiefling. With any luck the Tiefling would leave the girl. She really needed to try to lure the Tieflings away from the children.
"You want Fiery?" she says as she flicks her wrist and Radiance burst to life, dancing with light. She raises her voice as she delivers the next line. "Come get some. That goes for all you demon-blooded worms." Her patented smirk returned to her face as she took up a ready stance once more.

GM Kiora |

The tiefling behind Li'an moves past her and out the door, towards Hrut. He nimbly avoids any potential counterattack.
Tiefling 2 acrobatics through Hrut: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Tiefling 2 vs Hrut (Flank): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
This could provoke an AoO from you, Li'an if you want. He also moved THROUGH your square - you could attempt to force him to stay in the building - in which case he'd use his standard to attack you instead. Just speak up and hopefully if I have to change stuff I can still edit this post :p
Li'an is up.

Li'an Va'ardalia |

Li'an delays until both tieflings are out of the building.

Ehren Ferron |

With only Radiance's light to guide him, Ehren hurries to the site of battle. He starts to murmur an incantation beneath his breath, gathering power from the earth with each barefooted step. It would take more time for the spell to be completed.
Move action to move 20 feet closer. Standard to start a full-round action, converting stone call into summon nature's ally II. Not sure whether place magic would have to be used now or as the spell is being completed next turn to get the +1 CL.

Valaria Alazario |

Val holds the girl's arm firmly, then drags her back toward the library. "If you behave then this will be over quickly," she says firmly. She looks at the tiefling still inside and simply nods at him. "Join your allies. This shouldn't take long."
I have no idea if I need to roll something to make her move, or if she'll follow along.

Valaria Alazario |

CMB (Drag): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
"Now get inside little sorceress."

GM Kiora |

Valaria drags the young girl along with her. The remaining tiefling leaves, brushing past Valaria and Li'an on his way out the door. He heads straight for Markus, a sneer on his face.
"No armor, but still cocky enough to show your face? Looks like we got ourselves a mage, boys."
Again, Valaria/Li'an can AoO/stop if you wish - hopefully in time for me to edit.
Li'an is up.

Valaria Alazario |

I'm good. I want the guys outside and away from the hostages.

Li'an Va'ardalia |

Li'an breathes a sigh of relief when she sees the last tiefling go and Valaria manage to bring the girl over safely. She crouches down as Valaria approaches with the red-headed girl. She starts speaking in a hushed whisper. "I'm sorry that we were rough with you, but please listen to me..." she says, focused on the red-head. She then turns to include the others. "I know you're all scared, but I need you all to be brave and go inside the library and stay together. I'm going to put magic on you so you can call to me if something happens. Just whisper and I'll hear your words. I swear that we will protect you."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Diplomacy first and foremost. If Li'an can she'll cast Message on the red-headed girl, the eldest looking of the other children and Valaria this round as well.

GM Kiora |

Message is fine
Perception DC 26 (Details of a whispered conversation + target is distracted + 10' away)
Neither Chaleb nor the nearby tieflings hear Li'an's whisper - distracted as they are with the conflict at hand.
The teenaged girl stares at Li'an, wide-eyed. She doesn't say anything, but she nods, rubbing her tears away. She moves into the back of the students.
Meanwhile, the final tiefling perks up, and moves in on Markus, circling around him before chopping a crescent shaped weal into the necromancer.
Chaleb moves to center of the group, putting on a cocky grin and spinning his mace around carelessly. "Alright, you pitiable f~#&holes, you've crossed with the wrong cultists today! And you, you dumb b#$!%, you should have taken my offer way back when," He points his mace at Ary. "I would have been gentle with you, but now I'm gonna beat seven shades of s*!& out of you, then I'm going to murder all these snot-nosed kids and then I'm going to do what I please with whoever's left alive - especially you, sweetcheeks." Full-round action to intimidate via Dazzling Display
The depths of evil that Chaleb is willing to resort to in order to maybe please a demonic lord twists and turns your stomach - Hrut, Ary, and Markus are left shaken. Perhaps it is a blessing that Ehren was too far away and concentrating too hard to hear his speech.
Chaleb perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

Chaleb Intimidate (Intimidating Prowess, Skill Focus): 1d20 + 9 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 4 + 3 = 33
Intimidate DC = 10+HD+Wis, so Hrut and Markus are DC 14 and Ary is DC 13. So Hrut and Markus are shaken for 4 rounds, and Ary is shaken for 5 rounds (additional round for every 5 he beats the DC)
Tiefling #2 deals 4 damage to Markus. Chaleb intimidates Hrut, Ary, and Markus - leaving them shaken.
Round 2
Hrut is up.

Hrut Ingvarson |

Not outwardly showing his fear, Hrut focuses on the foes he is in melee with at this moment. Turning back to the enemy between him and Ary, Hrut swings his hammer backhanded, following with his shield out sideways aiming both blows for the demon-spawned head.
"MMrrrragh, I will overcome!"

Torag must have heard my prayers, He is revitalizing me! Just stay with me Forgefather, I will protect them.

Ary Bishop |

"Hooooly Frack." Ary says, as she takes a subconscious step back, not even realizing that Hrut has just utterly broken the cultist until she hears the twin slams and the crumpling of his body.
She looks, eyes widened to see the body on the ground. "I was just trying to get all of you away from the kids, but... what the actual hell is wrong with you?" she says, shield arm held between the two of them. "Anevia! We could use some artillery!" she calls out, as she fishes a smokestick out of her pack, strikes it, and tosses it towards Markus... getting him out of the sticky situation. With luck, he'll have more ideas.
Ranged Touch v. 10: 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 - 2 = 22 Shaken
5 foot step away, move action to draw from pack, standard action to throw. 4 rounds of shaken remaining. Side note: That intimidate text was impressive.

GM Kiora |

;) he has 3 feats invested in intimidate so I tried to live up to it
"Kúl," curses the other tiefling engaged with Hrut, his eyes wide. "What the f##~ did you get us into, Chaleb?!"
Hrut turns at Ary's voice, as if he were going to say something, giving the tiefling the split-second window he needs to slide his blade in through a gap in his armor, leaving a deep, but nonlethal wound.
"Ugh, what in the Abyss?" one of the tieflings engaged with Markus hisses as his field of view is filled with smoke, obscuring his vision with his mark.
Meanwhile, 100 feet away, Anevia holds the blade of her shortsword against Hosilla's throat. "And give dumb and dumber over here the chance they've been looking for? Don't think so!" she calls back. You could get her to change her mind with a diplomacy check as an immediate action - a really, really low one at that
Tiefling #2 vs Hrut: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Tiefling #2 vs Hrut crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

"No, no... you have a point." Ary calls back.
And don't forget his mighty summon! :o Whatever it may be!

Thats awesome! I almost always play casters, I hate being the one rolling dice, leave that to the GM to lose, I need some theme songs for my summons!

Ehren Ferron |

Ehren continues to focus on his spell as he moves closer to the battle, channeling his divine power into the conjuration. Just as he reaches his destination, the spell comes to a peak, and as a finishing touch he tugs a modicum of energy from the nearest ley line before focusing it on a spot beside one of the nearby tieflings. "Come forth!"
Ehren uses place magic (free action) and summons a small earth elemental to the empty spot on the right of Tiefling #1. Not sure when the summoning takes effect, but I'll post its action now.
A horrendously misshapen boulder, no taller than Ehren's waist suddenly appears beside the tiefling standing outside the smokescreen. After a moment the boulder stirs, unveiling a vaguely humanoid shape, its arms stubby but laden with heavy rock. Its beady gemstone eyes stare up at the tiefling, the elemental knowing it to be its enemy.
Slam Attack (w/Earth Mastery): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 = 24

The little elemental heaves itself out from the street and slams a stony fist into the tiefling's stomach, catching the man by surprise. "Hurrrkkk," he chokes out.

Markus is up.

Markus Coffinborn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Ehren, remember that your earth elementals have Power Attack - it's very useful for dealing crushing amounts of damage.
Markus chokes on smoke, his eyes watery from it as well as from the shock at the fallen crusader's depravity. This man...he thought that cowardice would save him, and he was willing to murder children to appease something that he didn't understand. And he was threating Markus' new friends.
Markus steps out of the smoke cloud, appearing beside Ehren's earth elemental. Customarily, he would bless his teammates for this battle, but Markus is feeling...offensive today.
He makes eye contact with Chaleb. "You! Fallen knight!" he begins. "Was it before or after you lost a fight with a demon that you decided to betray your world and join them? Will it be before or after they inevitably condemn you to a lifetime of suffering that you realize your folly?"
Markus narrows his eyes, layering magic into his words. "Perhaps you won't even get that chance. Perhaps Hrut will crush your skull and we will simply leave you lying here, before you ever get the chance to consider what you're doing." Markus shrugs as he completes his spell, balefully pointing a long, slender finger at the knight. "Either way it makes no difference to me. I doubt I'll even remember you when I wake up tomorrow morning."
"No one will remember you, Chaleb."
Casting cause fear - DC 16 Will save partial. Should be my third 1st-level spell today.

Ary moves closer and chucks a tanglefoot bag at the tiefling threatening Markus. (Because she is totally not a thief!)
The bag erupts with goo, entangling the tiefling and hardening in the air. "Gods dammit," he grumbles, struggling to get free of the viscous substance.

Loooove yooooou. Headcanon restored. Panic-crisis averted. Back to talking about spunky teenage girls who suddenly happen into magic when they become terrified.

Valaria Alazario |

Val looks at Li'an and whispers to her. "We move together. We can take one of them from both sides and catch him off-guard. Chaleb's vulnerable thanks to Markus. Sound like a plan?"
If Li'an agrees, hold action so we can move together.

Li'an Va'ardalia |

Li'an gives Lleuad a quick twirl in her hand, looking over the battle in front of them. She turns to Val and, with an uncharacteristically coquettish grin, replies "As you command, my Mistress."
You read my mind. Will wait to go simultaneously with Val.

Valaria Alazario |

Val grins at her response, then replies in another whisper. "Excellent. Hmmm, Mistress... I think I like that coming from you." She turns back to the battle, not letting herself get too distracted.

GM Kiora |

will update map soonish but tiefling should be able to 5 foot step down to the right diagonally to get at Markus if I can recall correctly
The ungooified tiefling stares at the elemental for a moment, and decides that stabbing the unarmored guy is smarter than stabbing the angry rock, so he steps around the creature and takes a jab at Markus, but is distracted by the lingering pain in his gut and misses terribly.

Valaria Alazario |

Val smirks. "Now," she says as she dashes forward, moving around Chaleb to get on his far side.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 9 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 - 1 = 10
Not sure if I actually need an acrobatics check since he still thinks we're on his side.
"He's right you know," she says calmly. "You're a pathetic, spineless traitor. And you're going to die here, unmourned and forgotten. Now do me a favor and die." She goes for a gap in his armor with her dagger.
Attack (Flanking): 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 18

Li'an moves forward with Valaria, rushing towards Chaleb. As she approaches she focuses on Lleuad, sending a rush of arcane energy flowing through the blade, which causes it to glow with a silvery light again. She lags behind a few paces to allow Valaria to get around Chaleb, and as he turns to react to Val's strike, Li'an attacks his exposed flank. Placing a hand on his shoulder, she plunges Lleuad-a'r-Sêr into his lower back, attempting to drive it through his kidney.
"A betrayer dies betrayed, it's really rather poetic," she says as she leans forward, putting all her weight into driving Lleuad deeper.

Lleuad does not like Chaleb at all apparently.

GM Kiora |

Nope, he's actually flat-footed against you guys. D: sad story
While Chaleb's mind is still reeling from Markus' spell, Li'an and Valaria quickly circle around him. Before he can really process what is going on, Valaria slices him open along the side and Li'an drives Lleuad through his kidney.
Chaleb runs for it, and Valaria and Li'an once again team up to try and cut him down - wounding him grievously but he manages to slip away, leaving a trail of blood as he goes. Full Round Action to run (60')

But with one eye still over her shoulder, watching the crusader, there was a significant possibility she'd not land a telling blow.

GM Kiora |

Ary swings hard, but the tiefling deflects her blow with his own shortsword at the last moment.
Meanwhile, the tiefling's eyes dart between Hrut and Li'an - he opts for the injured, lightly armored crusader over the hulking heavy-armored Ulfen man. He steps closer to her, swiftly carving out a small slice of flesh from the elf woman.

Meanwhile, Ehren swings too hard, and manages to bash himself in the face.

Markus is up.

Markus Coffinborn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Markus flees from the tiefling attacking him, paying no heed to the fact that it might attack him for fleeing. He circles around it, coming to a point behind Ary to hide behind her and her shield.
He reaches out towards her, his hand glowing with a pale energy. He breathes out pale mist. He touches her on the back, rubbing it consolingly. "You're alright, Ary. Get that tiefling!" Ary feels an abiding sense of security and comfort flow through her, overriding any doubt or fear that Chaleb might have instilled in her.
MA to move away from tiefling #1 (should provoke an AoO) and SA to use soothing touch on Ary - it ought to cure her shaken condition and transfer it to me for 1d3 ⇒ 2 rounds.
A moment after the energy takes hold of Ary and helps to soothe her, Markus chokes back a sob and tears begin to flow from his eyes. They couldn't win, they couldn't even hope to win. Even if they killed these opponents (and Chaleb was apparently more experienced than any of them) they would be swarmed by demons eventually. There were always more demons. Markus begins to hyperventilate, gasping for air in quick bursts.

GM Kiora |

Tiefling #1 AoO vs Markus (Grazed): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 1 = 10
Tiefling #1 vs Ary (Grazed): 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 1 = 18
Tiefling #1 damage vs Ary: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
The tiefling swipes at Markus as he flees, but the necromancer is too fast for him. He grunts in frustration, and wheels on Ary instead - briefly lodging his blade in her flesh.
Li'an readies an action:
Ready an action to make a 5' step and attack when Val or Hrut move up to the tiefling I'm next to. I should be able to move into flanking position in either case. In theory it would be ideal to move and attack after they move but before they attack, but if they can't get the flanking bonus too, c'est la vie :p
Tiefling #1 deals 7 damage to Ary.
Valaria is up.

Valaria Alazario |

Val looks over at Li'an and nods. "We'll take him together." She steps in and takes a swipe at the tiefling with her dagger.
Attack (Flanking?, Grazed): 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 - 1 = 9
Damage (Precise Strike): 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

GM Kiora |

Just as an aside, you can either delay your whole turn or just an action - pretty neat :0 - so you can indeed move, then delay your standard so that a flank is set up, etc.
Li'an moves with Valaria, setting up a flank with one of the remaining tieflings.
Valaria oversteps her mark and misses her target, only managing to rip a a tear in the tiefling's clothing instead. He sneers.
Li'an squares off with the tiefling in front of her, stepping back and forth, waiting for an opportunity to strike. "We need to finish this one off quick, I'm in bad shape from the last fight," she thought, realizing now that the demons had done more damage to her than she'd thought.
With that, Li'an manages to lay a devastating hit on the rogue in front of her.
The entangled tiefling snorts with laughter at Ehren's misfortune, deciding to try and add insult to injury by taking a swipe at Ehren as well, his seemingly unavoidable attack coming in from overhead - Ehren moves just in time to avoid being beheaded.
Meanwhile, the fear effect fades from Chaleb's mind... but the coward decides to keep on running, abandoning his tiefling lackeys.
One of them notices, and curses. "What the f~!&, Chaleb, come back here! Did that wizard shrivel your balls, or what?"

Tiefling #4 crit damage vs Ehren: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 4) + 2 = 7
Li'an deals 16 damage to tiefling 2, wounding him. Tiefling #4 deals 7 damage to Ehren, grazing him.
Note:
Chaleb is making a run for it. You guys have two choices: keep fighting the tieflings, or give chase, which will effectively remove you from combat initiative order, and you will enter a chase scene.
To give chase you must run, and therefore will take AoOs from any enemies that threaten you.
Chase Scene Rules
I use the same chase scene rules for all chases - whether the heroes are the pursuers or the ones being pursued. They are a variant of the pathfinder chase rules - a little simpler.
You will ultimately have three sets of obstacles to overcome. Each obstacle will have 2 skill checks, generally an easier one and a harder one.
Every time you succeed at a skill check, you gain a point. Every time you fail a skill check, you lose a point. - for a total of 6 possible points you can get from obstacles. If Chaleb has more points than any of the heroes, he gets away, running out of sight, and the heroes are assumed too tired to keep sprinting after him.
For every 10 ft of move speed that a pursuant is faster than the prey, you gain a bonus point. For every 10 ft of move speed that a pursuant is slower than the prey, you lose a bonus point.
Per GM discretion, there are other ways to lose points, by slowing yourself down. Some examples may include - attempting to drop your shield, making an acrobatics check to avoid an initial AoO, dropping caltrops to trip up the people behind you, attempting to cast a spell during the chase scene, etc.
The chase scene continues until all 3 obstacles have been played through, or until it is impossible for the prey to win.
So, is anyone giving chase? Otherwise..
Round 4
The child sorceress finishes untying one of the children, who runs to the back of the library to hide. She moves onto another kid.
Hrut is up.
