Does Joli Toli's spiritual patron bear any relation to jai alai? :D

Judging by the equipment, jai alai is only for hobgoblin alchemists.

How're we going to handle grindylow spears and other unremarkable spoils of war? I feel like we should take them 'cause a new colony needs all the resources it can get, but tracking that stuff's always a bit of a pain—especially for Kate, who has to go through the encounters and say what all the moidered folks leave behind.

Interesting question. I hadn’t even thought about it. I’d just assumed we’d only keep things that were of interest. Do we want to keep mundane, non-magical items too?
Purpose Creche
Sounds reasonable to me!

Here is a treasure tracker if you like.

Joli does a double axel in the air as the grindylow bites at him, protecting his neck and causing her teeth to just graze him. He lands ten feet away, his tongue — meant to catch flies — reaching out to cool her off instead.
Dang, that's a fancy frog!

I'm sorry to keep tripping Purpose! Silt has cover, Toby's in the water, Mitzi has four legs, and her Int's decent so she would go for the easiest target.
Also, good lord, I am getting too old to stay up until 2 AM gaming.

Amen to that. Zzzzz.

Haha, no worries! And yeah, we used to do 'til 2 AM on weeknights. That didn't last long. (Plus that's like, 4-5 hours past my normal bedtime)

I wanted to check with folks before I posted something: Purpose Creche is gonna basically ask if the party's OK with him executing the grindylow. I thought that could be a good way to highlight his lack of emotions but learned consideration of others, and maybe be good RP fuel for PC relationships but I totally get that that could be too uncomfortable for others, so I'm also happy to avoid that topic and turn towards checking on others' injuries/the room's contents
If the intention behind something like this is character development, I totally don't mind having uncomfortable ethical situations brought up (respecting our established lines & veils as well, of course!)

Yep, definitely a character development thing; I feel like Purpose Creche's inhumanity can be easy to miss sometimes, and I don't want to hit folks over the head with frequent descriptions of "hey, he ain't got a mouth, or really eyes, plus he talks weird." This seemed like a good place to bring that weirdness back in.

I love uncomfortable ethical situations in rpgs as long as no one is triggered beyond their comfort level. Some of my best role playing moments have been having my characters redeem themselves.

I totally agree with both of the points above. I think it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Also, I appreciate you sharing your intention Andrew and opening the discussion.

This is largely up to you all as players, but I really love how willing everyone is to discuss boundaries! It seems like people are into the idea of an angsty game (or at least you've played your characters that way so far), and that is great as long as everyone is having fun with it. The setting certainly supports it!
Purpose Creche
Any chance I could reroll the Knowledge check about that hand at some point? I'm real keen to learn all the Azlanti stuff, and I'll be danged if a giant green hand ain't Azlanti!
GM Kate
Oh, the knowledge check was actually for the coins! Those you can just show to someone else back on the ship.
I... may have to improvise a bit if you want more about the statue.
Purpose Creche
Oh, gotcha. No worries then, we can just run the coins by someone back at the ship! And I assume any of those items haven't been used within the last 2 days, so there's nothing fancy to get from object reading.
I hope my recent action wasn't too abrupt - it seemed like a majority of folks were on board with dispatching the grindylow. If that wasn't the case, we can change how things went down!
Sil'tchaak
I'm fine with it. I think Silt would have wanted to anyway (stereotypical druids hate all aberrations, right? But more importantly that also fits with his worldview and domain).
Don't forget we found a flask and flute and other possessions from a colonist in here… these things are intelligent, chaotic evil aberrations who probably raided / murdered colonists.
Purpose Creche
Items of interest to PCs found in the grindylow cave:
- bottle of air—does anyone need to breathe underwater? If not, this thing's worth 7250gp
- everburning torch—maybe Silt?
- ring of ferocious action—maybe Silt?
- amulet of natural armor +1—Silt, for now? Purpose could certainly use it, but it looks like Joli Toli's also a melee fella!
- +1 spear—Silt
- +1 mithral chain shirt— I know Silt probably can't wear it, but how about Joli Toli? PC could use, as it'd make him faster and a better swimmer (lower ACP). He'd probably take the armored plates out of his leather coat and wear it over top.
- ring of swimming—does everyone but me have a Swim speed?
- wand of flaming sphere with 9 charges—toss up!
- 470 gp—sounds like we should show the coins to someone! Maybe the cartographer whose name escapes me at the moment, since I think she knew about history? Or the dude with the grey beard who is similarly momentarily unnamed.
Sil'tchaak
everburning torch—maybe Silt?
Silt has darkvision.
wand of flaming sphere with 9 charges—toss up!
Sell… or just have Purpose use it (it's on the Occultist and Druid lists, so I think we're the only ones who can use it). Most everything will probably beat that DC in a couple levels.
ring of ferocious action—maybe Silt?
I guess, if no one else wants it. It might also be a good idea to put something like that on a class capable of healing. I think Silt should go back to spontaneous summons now that we have a divine caster.
Purpose Creche
Can Joli Toli's octopus hold a torch? :D
Prince Joli Toli
Is the Mithras shirt small size? If so that’d be awesome for Joli.

Nice loot! Sounds like Purpose should take the ring of swimming. Selling the air is probably a good idea. I don’t think we need it.
Prince Joli Toli
I just wanted to share with everyone: I don’t plan to be a pain in the patootie about it, but I do prefer to play good alignment as meaning that you don’t kill other sentient creatures without trying for peace first. With perhaps exceptions for things that are truly monstrous and an overwhelming threat, like aboleths.
The situation here reminds me a lot of European settlers landing and showing unchecked aggression toward indigenous people. It’s a bit of an X for me to repeat that without being mindful of it or problematizing. But I will do my best not to make it a drag on play!
Purpose Creche
You're totally fine! I was thinking the same thing re: colonization, but I couldn't think of a way to articulate it that Purpose Creche would actually make, and we'd had some run ins with grindylow in the past.
Pathfinder in general also has the presumed "monsters are bad, so no worries on your violence!" stuff, which can be a little weird. Part of the reason I try to dive into the emotional impact of what PCs usually get up to, and why I try to ask about whether or not people want to get into those things.
In any case, I think you're doing great! I tried to allude to it in Purpose Creche's little statement, but it's good to have a character who raises those issues.
GM Kate
Two things,
Magic items, unless they come from an opponent, will be the size of the person who wants them. It makes life easier.
Don’t worry in the slightest about being a drag or a pain. It’s important that everyone feels comfortable in the game!
Do you want to redo anything from the last scene, or would you prefer to move forward with an understanding for the future?
Prince Joli Toli
I think it will provide good story material to leave it as is, though it does make Joli question the party.
Awesome! If no one objects to Joli taking the shirt...?
Tobias "Toby" Hawthorn

I was going to suggest that you take that, Cedar. If I'm understanding your abilities right, it doesn't seem impossible that you somehow come out of synthesized form while deep underwater, and if that happens you may be very sad indeed if you don't have a way to breathe.
Cedar Cruise
|
True. OK, Cedar will take the bottled air. As the child of a sea hag he can hold his breath for quite awhile. 3x his CON I believe. So he can actually put it to good use it need be!

That’s my assumption too Kate. And I don’t think the day is over yet, is it?

I played a lot of Morrowind, and I spent most of that time decorating the house I'd... acquired... in Balmora.
Spent a lot of time thinking about my Hell's Rebels character's family home--
Low ceiling, brick walls with exposed wooden beams overhead. Pegs and nails and things driven into them to hang stuff from, lanterns or aforementioned aromatics or whatever else. Bottom floor is basically one big room, a wide stone hearth at one end in the "living room" area. One comfy upholstered armchair, otherwise wooden chairs in various states of use and wear. Small window next to the armchair looks out onto the street, coarse blue curtains. Nice simple patterned rug between the fireplace and all that. Mantle has some keepsakes and knickknacks on it, including at least one really s#@#ty looking earthbent pot.
In between the kitchen and the living rooms the two doors, one out to the street and one out to the back yard with the chickens and s~!+. Street door has a waist height wooden hutch/cabinet making kind of a wall between it and the living area, maybe 5 feet long.
Big wooden table serves as dining table and prep space in the kitchen. Wood stove, counters, and sink fill in the wall opposite the fireplace wall on the other side. Two broad windows above the sink and counters, same blue curtains as the living room. Kitchen windows give a decent amount of light, since the house across the alley isn't two story.
Stairs leading up were an add on, so there's a door near the end of the kitchen table on the backyard wall that leads out to an external but bricked in stairwell that runs up the side of the house. The actual backyard door opens out underneath this stairwell.
The whole place is chock full of reminders and signs of lower middle class family life. Think close, warm, and cozy. Maybe I'll sketch a floor plan for S 'n Gs.
And the Hook Street crew had a shop/home that was a pretty important emotional touchstone. I really like it when characters have a space to personalize and connect with.
So yeah, pretty pumped here!
