Round 3, redux
========
With the herals crumpling to the ground, Calden quickly crosses the remaining distance. He pats down the figure dressed in black, hoping to find keys of some sort. "Nice shooting, Korech."
Hearing Ofelia's voice, Calden straightens out and looks out from the balcony. "Ofelia? Get up here, if you want to help us." He then looks at the water elemental, unsure of how the creature would react, and whether he could command it. "You! That one is a friends of ours. Don't attack her, you hear?!"
GM Giuseppe
Calden doesn't find a key on the herald, but he does find something else on his body: three labeled potions ("healing", "stabilize" and "invisibility"), 2 sunrods, a set of thieves' tool and 124 gp. The herald also wears a fine leather armor. Not far from him, lying on the ground, there are a very ornated shield and a finely crafted crossbow, along with the herald's ornated rapier.
Shirzon the Quarter
==========
Round 3 Revised
==========
"That'll teach 'em," Shirzon mutters as the herald goes down in a bloody mess. "Calden, does he have a key?" Their conversation is interrupted, however, at the sound of spellcasting and acolyte screams below. Shirzon tenses; although it sounded like the voice shared an enemy with them, new complications were definitely going to make this tricky. When Calden calls out the latecomer's name, though, Shirzon looks at him, frustrated and bewildered. "Who is Ophelia? What the hell is going on?"
When it becomes clear that the priest doesn't readily have access to the doors, Shirzon ducks down and starts to work on it on her own, grumbling about what a mess this whole situation is.

==========
Round 4
==========
Shirzon curses at her attempt to pick the lock, having fumbled and jammed her pick too quickly. She shakes out her venom-swollen hand, muttering under her breath the whole time. "If I never see another mask in my life, it'll be too damn soon..."
Disable Device: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Korech
=========
Round 4
Korech rushes over to the door, training his bow on the last-remaining alcolyte while Shirzon works.
"How long spell work?"
Calden Tigg
"Sorry, no keys. Just some potions," Calden replies to Shirzon. He looks surprised that Shirzon wouldn't recognize Ofelia, or her voice. He looks at the half-orc like she's daft. "Ofelia. The acolyte who was in our bunk. Short hair, black dress? She also saved our behinds at the baker." Oh right, Shirzon wasn't there...
Merephel Angorat
"She's a friend, not to worry!"
Merephel gives Shirzon a reassuring smile, and proceeds to cast Stabilize on the Herald.
She will try to save as many as possible if we are out of combat rounds.
GM Giuseppe
The last acolyte still standing surrenders. “Not too much, Korech” answers Ofelia. “I suggest you tie them up before they wake up” explains the girl as she walks up the staircase.
“There’s no time Calden” says the girl as she undresses. Beneath her white robes she only wears black lace underwear, not hiding too much of her moon-white skin. She hunches her shoulders as she looks to Calden. “I had no time to wear anything else, sorry.” The girl quickly wears the herald’s black robes and mask. “Krant was gathering acolytes to launch another assault. I’ll try and hold them as long as possible. You must hurry” says Ofelia. The girl rushes downstairs without saying anything else, closing the door to the Worship Hall behind her.
As Merephel stabilizes the acolytes and Korech ties them up, Shirzon tries to open the door and Calden searched the acolytes’ bodies in search of anything useful. In total, he manages to gather 73 golden pieces. Except for those, each acolyte has a short sword, two daggers, a studded leather armor, a light wooden shield, white robes and an iron mask.
In the meantime, Shirzon tries to open the door, every second she spends another step toward the arrival of Krant and his acolytes and priests. Fortunately, Ofelia is somehow managing to buy the party some time, and Shirzon proves quite lucky and skilled this time, managing to open the lock in about ten seconds.
---
As soon as the half-orc opens the double silver door, a new room is revealed. This room has many doors, three on each side and a pair of double doors opposite the entrance. In the center of the chamber, a twostep dais serves as a base for a sculpture made up of dozens of masks, carefully forged into a humanoid shape. Quite suddenly, a voice booms out from the chamber asking, “Who are the true gods?” Just as suddenly as the voice came, all is silent.
_______________________
A quick recap of what has happened in the last few rounds: Ofelia has worn the herald’s robes, trying to slow down the reinforcements’ arrival. In the meantime, Merephel has stabilized the acolytes and Korech has tied them up, while Calden has gathered their belongings in a pile, possibly claiming something for the party and putting it in the bag of holding. Shirzon managed to open the double door and you entered a new room. The water elemental disappeared.

Calden Tigg
Calden retrieves the potions from the the herald, as well as the money. He thrusts the rapier through the sash holding his robe together, not wanting anyone else the chance to use it. As he watches Shirzon work on the lock, he stand next to her, pulling the stopper from the potion. "Tilt back, you look like you could use it." He pours the healing potion down her throat, getting her patched up for what's to come without ditracting her from the lock.
Giuseppe, I thought this could be allowed because of Shirzon's Accelerated Drinker trait. I don't know the effects, so please roll for me.
--
After that's done, Calden looks down to the first floor to see what's keeping Ofelia. Seeing her in her undergarments he quickly straightens and looks the other way. "We're doing the best we can. Thank you for any delay you can cause, but please take care of yourself. Flee up here if it comes to a fight."
--
Anxious to get to their goal and realizing that most of this floor was trapped, Calden steps in beside Shirzon. "So far, so good." The booming voice gives him pause. True Gods? Plural? I thought that they worshipped only one true God? Then something clicks. Of course. This wing is only for the heralds, and they know it's a sham. They look like they own this place, probably thinking enough of themselves to call themselves such. He looks at the others, and whispers. "What do you think? Another trap, something like a password? I think we should announced ourselves as if we're herald. Something pompous, like 'We, the heralds, are the true Gods'. Agree?"
Assuming the others agree, Calden puts up a deep voice and answers the booming voice as he suggested.
Shirzon the Quarter
Shirzon fiddles with the lock, and as she gets it open surprisingly quickly, she lets out a quiet, but triumphant, "Ha!" Busy with the lock, she pays little attention to the acolyte getting tied up nor Ofelia changing. The others vouched for her allyship, so she doesn't bother questioning this other cult-betrayer's involvement. The enemy of my enemy, and all that.
What she does pay attention to is Calden's attempt to force feed her a potion. When the vial comes near her face, she nearly drops what she's doing, opening the lock despite the interruption. "I'm not an infant, you don't have to spoon feed me my medicine! Give me that!" she scolds, snatching the vial and downing it with the stopper helpfully removed. "I appreciate the help, but for the love of the gods, don't pour anything in my mouth unless we're in a tavern!"
---
Shirzon looks around for the source of the booming voice, and not finding it grumbles something about magical security. "There's definitely a password or something going on. Your guess is as good as mine, Calden. I'm more worried about that sculpture..." Shirzon says, indicating the jumble of masks with a nod. She draws her weapons in anticipation, hoping the monk's gambit works. Otherwise they were probably in for another fight...
GM Giuseppe
Calden’s words echo throughout the chamber, gradually waning to no effect. A few seconds after, the mask statue moves off its pedestal…to attack! This creature is made of hundreds of metal masks, welded together to form a roughly humanoid body. The masks are mostly iron, but some—such as the hands, knees, and feet— are made of silver lined with gold. The mask that makes up its head is made of porcelain with gold trim and has a large sapphire set into its brow. At the creature moves, the masks seem to shift and stare.

Who are the true gods? What? Uh... Razmir would be what the statue wants but... I don't know! We the heralds? I'm not sure that's ri-- oh Gods it's coming alive!
Korech quickly backpedals as he sees the statue start to move, his eyes widening.
No action since waiting on the statue move, just a post to say hey I'm here.

Round 2

"I knew it," Shirzon says flatly, taking a defensive posture toward the enormous and unnerving collection of masks. She slides over and tries to get into a position to get behind the animated metal. She swings out with her dagger and mace, trying to bash the thing down.

ROUND 2
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Calden hits the strange statue two times, destroying several of the masks making up the creature with his powerful blows. The mask statue, however, reacts promptly and tries to hit Calden two times with his mask arms. The statue’s strikes are quick and powerful, and they both hit Calden, sending masks to shatter on his face.
Korech fires two arrows at the statue. The first one hits, but it doesn’t seem to deal all the amount damage it would have done to a living creature. Maybe piercing weapons do not work well against this statue? By the way, Korech’s shoot was so precise and powerful to actually damage the creature nonetheless.
Shirzon attack the statue two more times: she misses with her first attack, but her mace swing is precise and hits the statue, crushing more masks. Bludgeoning damage seem to work very well against this foe.

ROUND 3
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Calden hits statue with his kick, shattering other masks, while his elbow misses the target. The statue continues its attacks against Calden, blindly focusing on him in an attempt to utterly destroy his face. And that is just what happens: the first hit is powerful and violent, and the second one is a solid one as well, resulting in Calden falling unconscious to the ground, bleeding and beaten up.
Roaring furiously, Korech launches himself at the mask statue and hits it with his axe: unfortunately, it seems like even slashing weapon are not ideal to fight these strange statue. Just as before, however, Korech’s strength is enough to overcome part of the creature natural defenses. His attack is so violent that it almost destroys the statue, smashing several masks in the attempt.
But the creature isn’t bound to last long: Shirzon, lacking Calden’s assistance, fails to hit the statue with her mace, but she is successful with her dagger. Unfortunately, however, the dagger doesn’t really damage the creature enough to destroy it. Unexpectedly, Merephel is the one who puts the word “end” to this fight: charging in with her mace, the little Kassenite girl hits the golem, destroying other masks and causing it to collapse to a messy heap of masks.

Merephel cheers, and jumps up and down in joy. She doesn't see Calden is down for about two seconds, and then runs to him.
"Pull out your potions! I'm nearly out of healing!"
Merephel kneels beside Calden, praying out loud for his life to be save. After pulling out a healing potion, she dumps it into his mouth.
It's a Cure Light Potion. I'll do a second if there is time. Here is the roll for the first:
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Korech
Sitting helplessly by, Korech pulls out a potion, offering to Merephel and Calden.
Shirzon the Quarter
Shirzon fishes out her own potion as well, stepping through the now-inanimate pile of masks. "Great hit, Mere! Who knew you had it in you!" Standing over Calden's fallen form, she winces at the sight of his bleeding, bludgeoned frame. "Yikes. We best get him back on his feet before any more 'surprises' show up..." She proffers her potion of cure light wounds, letting Merephel take it to revive and heal their monk.
Calden Tigg
Calden stares cross-eyes when the potion has taken its effect, trying to focus. "The masks... Did we kill it? What happened?"
Once he has blinked a couple of times and is strong enough to move, he reaches for a potion at his belt, drinking it with shaking hands.
Merephel's potion puts me at 0, good enough to regain consciousness. My own CMW potion puts me at 14 health.
Korech
Korech stows his potion, standing as he looks over the wreck of masks. He sifts through them for a moment, looking for anything of interest before he prepares to head through the next door.
"Hate this place. Mask-monster, rock-monster, stupid alcolytes. Shooting herald was fun I guess."
Merephel Angorat
"Shirzon, can you grab those gemstones from the masks? They may be worth something. Korech, will look around and see what that thing was guarding? Calden!" She looks back at the young man, and very firmly tells him,"Sit down so I can examine you!"
Merephel is bossy.

Suddenly, one of the doors on the left and one of the doors on the right are opened, revealing two more heralds. One of them wears standard black clothes for heralds, while the other has several unique items on himself, including a silver brooch and a golden ring. This herald wears the same black robes as the other one, but he displays his bare chest behind his unfastened robe. “Tsk, I don’t know why are you doing this, but your folly ends here” says the bare-chested herald. “Come on Fennec, let’s show them how the Living God pays back those who refuse his glory!” he cries out with a rich, powerful voice. You immediately identify him as being the one who took you into the temple and supervised your initiation. He’s holding a set of steel chains, and in a matter of seconds he shakes them in the air. A second later, as if out of nowhere, a creature resembling a thin, lanky wolf with reddish-brown fur, white claws, and burning, fiery red eyes appears, tied to the chains as the herald holds it. “Attack, my hellish servant! Show them the burning rage of the Living God!”

Seeing how he can't reach either of the heralds, Calden pulls a hand into his backpack and takes out a labeled potion. As he drinks it and feels a protective corset of force settle on him, he reflects on his purchase of the potion. It seems ages ago that I got this from Holgast. Silly, I should have used it earlier... Might have saved me some hits from that living mask-thing.

ROUND 6
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Merephel closes in on the hell hound and tries to hit the hellish beast with her mace, but her swing is too slow and the creature easily dodges it. Egarthis closes his eyes for a few moments, speaking some arcane words as he gestures strangely. Suddenly, he points his fingers at Korech and blasts him with a searing beam of fire. “By fire be purged, you misbeliever!” he cries out as his ray darts toward Korech. The half-orc stays focused and waits until the last moment before avoiding the searing beam by jumping back just at the right time. The fire ray hits the wall behind him, almost melting down the stone wall, before disappearing.
Egarthis smirks behind his mask. “Well, it seems like I underestimated you. Now it’s time to play hard then! he says as he yanks the chains holding his hellish hound. “Attack, my favorite minion. Turn them to ashes!” The hell hound carries out the command and attacks Merephel. The hellish creature’s razor-sharp teeth delve deep in Merephel’s skin, but the pain caused by the bite isn’t the worst part. As soon as the beast bites her, Merephel feels an abrupt, searing pain in her right arm, where the creature has bitten her. Once the hell hound releases his grip on Merephel’s arm, the girl’s limb is covered in burns.
Shirzon retaliates against Fennec, but he dagger thrust is very slow and the herald easily parries it. “Come on, I know you can do better, I’ve seen in the courtyard what you can do…” says the herald as his parries Shirzon’s mace swing with his ornate steel shield. A metallic clangor fills the room as the half-orc’s mace hits the shield.
In the meantime, Calden drinks a potion he purchased a long ago from Holgast, Kassen’s wizard, enhancing his defenses before wading into the fray.
Korech, who has just avoided Egarthis’ scorching fire beam, fires two arrows at Egarthis. The first one is wildly inaccurate, but the second one aims right for the herald’s head. Egarthis, however, does something amazing, something you’ve seen before when the Molthuni Privateers attacked the Black Mist: he actually deflects Korech’s arrow, just like Calden did that day. “You’ll need to do much better to wound me, you misbeliever” he mocks Korech, his deep voice enriched by the mask’s reverberation.

ROUND 7

Fennec keeps fighting with both his rapier and shield, trying to win Shirzon’s resistance with consecutive attacks. “This is how you fight with two weapons, you half-orc scum!” he cries out as he thrust forward with his rapier, quickly trying to attack with his shield as well. The man has grown bolder and very confident, and he tries to hit Shirzon even though he cannot hit any vital organ. His first attack misses wildly, but Shirzon is not enough fast to dodge the shield bash as well. The half-orc gets hit again, causing a cruel laughter in the herald in front of her. “There’s no escape now, my tusky princess…” he whispers in Shirzon’s ear when they’re close enough.
Environmental Information: The pedestal is now empty since the golem occupying it has been destroyed. It seems like the golem was sitting on a pressure plate: when he moved away from the pedestal, the pressure plate raised and an alarm ringed in the first floor. The pedestal is a 2 feet high days: it has two steps and can be easily climbed without requiring a Climb check. It’s still enough high to grant cover though. The squares occupied by the dais are not treated as blocked terrain: you can easily occupy them, by climbing the two steps of the pedestal.

Round 7
========
Calden looks in awe at the ray of fire thrown by the herald on the opposite side of the room, and seems about to move over to keep the caster busy. Shirzon's words keep him on this side of the room, however. Maybe we have to take down one threat first. And the ray did miss. Not quite comfortable to leave the caster unattended, Calden steps up to provide a distration for Shirzon against Fennec. He takes a faint stab with his fist and follows up with a powerful kick.
5 ft step north and west to provide flanking for Shirzon. Then a Flurry of Blows at Fennec, unarmed with Power Attack and flanking. Lethal damage this time.

ROUND 7
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
The air in the room is growing warmer due to the hellhound’s presence. A stench of sulfur hangs in the air. Merephel steps back and channel her goddess’ positive energy to heal herself and her allies. “How dare you channel your fake deity’s energy in this sacred temple? Now you will pay for your heresy!” cries out Egarthis as he concentrates once again on a spell, gesturing strangely and speaking arcane words of power. Suddenly, another searing beam is fired from his pointed finger, this time aiming for Merephel. The Kassenite girl widens her eyes as she sees the fire ray coming to her, but she holds her nerve and jumps back just at the right time, avoiding the scorching beam.
“You’re nimble! Well, I guess this doesn’t matter anymore now…Avrashak farshir gorh vikh!” cries out the herald, apparently addressing to his hell hound, and you could swear that the infernal beast is smirking in response. Then, the hell hound inflate itself, as though it was gathering the warm air from the room, jumps on the dais and right after it blows a cone of fire from its very mouth! Korech*, Merephel and Calden are all caught within this area of searing flames.
Calden, Korech and Merephel all take 6 points of fire damage each. Reflex DC 14 for half!
As the room is filled with flames and the stench of sulfur, Shirzon steps onto the dais, ducks into a roll and ends up behind Fennec. The herald appears to be surprised by the half-orc’s agility, and quickly turns on himself in order to parry Shirzon’s expected blow. But the half-orc doesn’t strike. Calden steps up to Fennec and takes advantage of the surprise to hit the Razmiri cultist with his bare fist, but Fennech is quick enough to turn on himself again and parry the attack with his shield. Calden feels an aching pain in his fist, but Shirzon takes advantage of the situation and tries to stab the herald in the back with her magical dagger. Fennec is far nimbler than you expected, however, and he manages to duck and avoid Shirzon’s strike. “You can keep trying, but you’ll never hit me!” he shouts in delight and self-fulfillment. But his words are cut short by Calden’s kick reaching him right in his face, almost sending his iron mask to shatter into useless shards. The Kassenite boy had taken advantage of the distraction and hit the herald with an acrobatic kick, using the wall on his side as a support for his jump. “Damn!” cries out Fennec.
Right after, Korech leaps onto the dais, stepping on the pressure plate, and he fires a single arrow at Fennec, hoping that the herald can’t deflect arrows as well. And he’s right indeed. The half-orc shoots his bow with deadly accuracy, and Fennec gets hit again by an arrow lodging right into his neck, causing him to scream in pain. The man’s robe are now bloodstained and his mask has turn partially red.

ROUND 8
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Fennec instantly retaliates, blowing off his steam on Calden. “NOW! YOU! WILL PAY!” he screams as he thrusts forward with his fine rapier. Calden’s reflexes are lightning though, and the Kassenite boy easily dodges the lunge by stepping back. As soon as Calden moves forward again to gain advantage, Fennec tries to hit him again with his steel shield, but again the Kassenite dodges the bash by ducking nimbly. “AAARGH!” roars Fennec in frustration, his robes red with blood and his moves not so confident anymore!

* Korech, I can’t remember where were you before you stepped onto the pedestal, so I’m not sure whether you're actually caught in the burst of flames or not. I’ve marked the area of effect of the hell hound’s breath weapon on the map using a red line. If you were not in that area you do not take any fire damage and don’t need to attempt a Reflex save.
Heads-up: Please guys do not ignore the Spellcraft checks!

Taking advantage of the spectacle, she aims a single attack at Fennec, trying to plunge her dagger into him.

Reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Calden grimaces at the herald when Shirzon's trick of flanking him pays off. It's either that, or he's biting back the pain from the hell hound's fiery breath. Well, if that's not definite proof, I don't know what is. They command the hounds of hell?
He assumes a neutral stance while taking a breath and gauging the situation, realizing that Fennec seems pretty well-defended with his shield. Calden then ducks low, fakes another kick and instead comes up to grab at the man's shield arm. "Now, Shirzon. Take him out!"
Grapple attempt at Fennec. +2 bonus from flanking, +2 from Feat. Did I move up in the initiative order compared to Shirzon, since she readied her attack to take advantage of my flanking?

ROUND 8
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Merephel tries to hit the hell hound but she fails wildly. Her swing is too slow and predictable, and the infernal beast easily avoids the strike, roaring in response. Egarthis breaks into a grim laughter. “This is how you hope to oppose us? You’re pathetic!” he cries out as he concentrates again, speaks more arcane words and gestures carefully. “The fire will purge your sins, misbelievers!” he screams furiously as a cone of flames burst out from his palms, catching both Merephel and Korech within the area of effect of the spell.
Korech and Merephel both take 16 (ouch!) points of fire damage each. Reflex DC 14 for half!
The entire room is filled with flames, and the stench of burnt flesh fills the air along with the smoke. The hell hound smirks cruelly again and pounces on Korech, biting the half-orc’s leg and causing him a searing pain. His thigh gets wounded and burned, provoking a painful scream from Korech.
Korech takes 10 (ouch! x2) points of damage.
In the meantime, Calden’s feint is successful and Fennec bites the bait, allowing the Kassenite to grapple the herald. “Take your dirty hands off me, you bigot misbeliever!” hisses in frustration Fennec from behind his mask, his voice partially distorted by the iron mask. Shirzon seizes the opportunity to stab the grappled herald right in his belly. Fennec screams again as the blood gushes out of his belly, besmirching his black robes.
Right after, Korech drops his bow and retaliates against the hell hound swinging his axe furiously. The hell hound is not fast enough to avoid the strike, and it gets hit on his back, roaring savagely in response.

ROUND 9
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
Merephel steps forward, advancing on Egarthis, and swings her mace with resolution. Her swing is fast and accurate, and the herald cannot dodge it in time. Egarthis gets hit, but the resulting wound is just a scratch. The herald laughs eerily. “You need to do much better than that…” he says from behind his mask. Then, he instantly retaliates and targets Merephel with a flurry of unarmed blows. The first blow is though slow and inaccurate, and Merephel easily dodges it. But the second one is far more quick and precise, and hits Merephel right in her head with a violent punch.
Merephel takes 6 points of damage!
“Now, can you see your folly? You’re bound to die here!” cries out Egarthis is self-fulfillment. Right after, his hell hound, no more restrained by his master’s chains, keep attacking Korech, trying to bite the half-orc to his death. The infernal beast pounces on Korech once again, biting the half-orc’s neck and causing him a burning pain as the skin around his neck begins chapping.
Korech takes 11 points of damage.
In the meantime, Calden’s quickly closes in on Fennec. He hits him right in his face, almost tattooing his iron mask onto the herald’s face with his fist. Then, with a quick kick Calden breaks the man resistances down. The herald collapses to the ground, unconscious, without having the chance to say something threatening before losing his senses. The potion the herald was trying to drink rolls over the floor. It’s labeled as “healing”.
Egarthis smirks. “Fennec was weak. You won’t be so lucky against me and my trusted servant!” he cries out as he sees the other herald collapsing to the ground.
With Fennec now out of the way, Shirzon channels her fury towards the hell hound. The half-orc’s agility enables her to try and hit the infernal creature two times, with both her dagger and light mace. And Shirzon hits, twice, also thanks to Merephel’s position. Her hits are solid, and almost kill the hellish beast, now angry and badly bleeding, several of its ribs broken by Shirzon’s mace and a large hole in its side caused by Shirzon’s magical dagger.
Right after, Korech steps back, pulls out a healing potion from his bag and swallows it, curing part of his bad wounds*.
